From the Finder's Go menu, choose Computer:
Double-click your hard disk icon. It is usually named "Macintosh HD":
    Look for this folder:
    Drag it to the Trash.

Can i install os x mountain lion in another macbook air with my apple id?

It depends. If you purchase an OS upgrade it can be installed on up to 5 devices that are registered with your ID. However if you purchase a computer with that OS you cannot install it on other computers you own. The OS that comes with your computer is tied to the computer and not your ID.

Mountain Lion doesn't ship on any media and is too large to fit on a CD.
You must purchase it using the App Store and it downloads over the Internet.

  • Can i install os x mountain lion in apple retailer store instead?

I live overseas and i don't have broadband internet access.
Can i just simply bring my macbook pro late 2011 to apple retailer store and ask them to clean install OS X mountain lion?
i have backed up everything that i need though..

you can most definitely walk into your Apple Retail Store and use their internet! Apple is very cool about those things. I've seen some people just stand and browse the internet for hours while I'm getting something repaired or buying something there. They really don't care. They want you to be in there.
make an appointment to see if they can't assist you further, be sure to bring an 8gb storage device if you want to do a clean install.
if you are using time machine, make sure you verify your backups by holding option and clicking the time machine icon in the toolbar and then selecting Verify Backups.
Be aware that if you plan to just migrate your former backup to ML that a clean install is unecessary and you can just do a regular installation ontop of your system as it is now.

i have a pc thats running windows 7 64bit and i was wondering if i could install OS X Mountain Lion on it?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
OS X can only be installed in Macs because it's designed to work only with hardware included in Macs. Also, the OS X Terms of Use doesn't allow it

  • Can't install Boot Camp - Mountain Lion

I had previously installed Windows XP running under Parallels. When I updated to Mountain Lion I uninstalled Parallels. I decided to just run XP in Boot Camp, as I need it only once in awhile. I downloaded Boot Camp 3.2 which says it's compatable with XP. When I try to download the Windows Support Software to install XP, it will not load. It says that it is not available on the server. Is there a solution for this?  Thanks!!!

It takes awhile, but this seems to work…
    Make sure you have:
    * Wired USB Keyboard & Mouse
    * Snow Leopard CD
    * WinXP CD
    * 16GB Thumb Drive
    * Everything on your system backed up... just in case
    * Lots of time set aside
In the unlikely event of a water landing, make sure you have backed up your system prior to attempting this!*
Connect your wired USB keyboard & mouse and Install SL to the thumb drive (This part is like watching paint dry.) then reboot your Mac. Hold down the option key right when you hear the boot chime and select the thumb drive as your boot device. Once SL boots up, you can then use the boot camp assistant to create the BC partition and begin WinXP installation. Note: the WinXP installer will tell you it doesn't recognize any of the partitions and will ask you if you want to delete & repartition as MBR... DO NOT REPARTITION WITH THE XP INSTALLER. If you do, the XP loader will get confused on where your windows installation is. Select the Boot Camp partition and format NTFS**.
After install make sure you run the BC driver setup so all your devices will play nicely. You might also need to run apple software update to get the last supported XP drivers (which I believe is BC v3.2) as well as download/install the latest video drivers directly from nvidia or amd/radeon.  Once everything is up to date, you should be able enable bluetooth to setup/use your wireless keyboard and mouse.
Another thing to note: the BC icon in the windows control panel works like a champ, however the one in Mountain Lion does not acknolegde you have boot camp installed... so to get to your XP partition you have to hold down the option key on boot and select it by hand... or you probably could install a boot manager.
Did I leave anything out?  Oh....Good luck!!
    * Back everything up before attempting the rest of these steps.
** Again... everything should have been backed up waaay before you get to this step.

  • MacBookPro3,1 runs well with 10.6.8 but can't install Mavericks or Mountain Lion

I have an old "Santa Rosa" MBP from August 2007.  It runs 10.6.8 perfectively well but I thought I'd install Mavericks to see what the future is like.  Unfortunately it failed midway through the install with a "hardware issue" message and a request for reboot.  Fortunately it hadn't changed the OS on the hard disk so all I had to do was go into Startup Manager and boot the old installation.
I then tried to install Mountain Lion onto a USB drive and it gave the same hardware/reboot message.  Curiously I can safe-boot into Mountain Lion.
I ran the Apple hardware tests and everything passes.  The top of the kernel panic file in /USB/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports/ reads:

One complication with the machine is that it had the NVIDIA cracked soldering problem.  A year ago I sent the motherboard to a shop in California that put on a new graphics chip and it's run well since then although it reports 128MB of video RAM instead of the standard 256MB.
This model is supposed to run everything up through Mavericks.  Is there anything obvious I've missed?

You can check here for MT Lion

  • I can't install OS X Mountain Lion due to wrong partition scheme.

I just bought and downloaded Mountain Lion on my Mac. Now I'm trying to upgrade but seems to fail.
I made a second partition on the same drive last year to put in Gentoo (unix) on one and by so used a double boot. When i released Gentoo from the harddrive i could no longer make it one partition.
Now it says that I don't have the right partition Scheme and tells me how to change it. Only problem is that I can't change the partitions. At all.
What should I do? Clean install? How?

In Disk Utility, where you were, in the left hand column in the window highlight the Hard Drive that the Partitions are on>in the upper right portion of the window click on the betton "Partition">below that a diagram showing your hard drive with its various partitions will appear> click on one of the Partitions shown that you want to Remove, to highlight it, and click on the "Minus" symbol at the bottom of the column>this action will Remove That partition only.  Repeat these steps for each Partition that you want Removed.  Do NOT remove the Partition that your Main OS is on that you want to keep.  And Removing each of those Partitions will of course DELETE ALL THE DATA contained on each one.  Make backups before you start of anything you want to keep off of them.
    Hope this helps

  • Can i install OS X mountain lion on the same computer as yosemite (mac pro late 2013)

i want to partition my main drive  that currently has OS X yosemite and have two operating systems, oner on each partition . Mountain lion and yosemite.I want to use ProTools 10 on Mountain lion and Protools 11 with Yosemite. I'm collaborating with another music studio that's working with an older MacPro (late 2007) He can only go as far as Protools 10, and I believe he's using Mountain Lion.
I want to have the exact system setup as he does so we can sent Protools projects back and forth. I already know that we can still collaborate by up and down converting our sessions. But that is not an option as he has some plugins that are only good for Protools 10.
Below are the specs of my computer

Not on a Mac which shipped with Mavericks or newer, such as yours.

  • I can't install OS X Mountain Lion

I have OS X Mountain Lion installation file but when i try to start it in the first screen i click on "continue" button and then a message error appear saying that "it cannot find information about this computer". I tried many times but the result doesn't change. I have a MacBook 13" late 2008 in aluminum with 4GB of RAM and more than 70GB of free space on the HD. What's the problem?

Depending on the capacity of the startup disk, make sure there's at least 15% available disk space.
Example:   A 500GB drive would need 75GB free space minimum.
If necessary, you can use Safe Mode to free up space.

  • HT1338 S.M.A.R.T errors can't install OS X Mountain Lion

I tried to download OS X Mountain Lion but all I get is a message reading .......... This disk has S.M.A.R.T errors. This disk has a hardware problem that can't be repaired. So what is a S.M.A.R.T error ? Can it really not be reparied ? What shall I do now ? No sence in paying $19.99 if I can't use it.
Thanks for any and all help

A SMART error means the disk is flagging the user that it is failing. SMART is monitoring technology built into the disk. It cannot be repaired. Backup any data immediately. You will need a new hardrive, regardless of your operating system. Sorry.
