Can I install Reader via GPO

Hello,
I've got an organisation (about 100 PC's/Laptop) that has multiple versions of the Reader software, going back to 8.1.0.  I'd like to get everybody up to the same version, but the quantity (and geographic locations) of machines means that's all I'd do.  I've recently started using GPO to install some software, so my questions are:
Is it possible to install Reader via GPO.
If it is possible do the users need administrative privileges to the machine or can the they be normal users?
Thanks in advance
Tony

See this document for some information on Adobe Reader deployment: http://www.adobe.com/content/dam/Adobe/en/devnet/reader/pdfs/deploying_reader9.pdf (sorry, I don't know if there is a new document specific for Adobe Reader X).
Also, you can download MSI installers

  • Deploy reader updates and install/uninstall reader via GPO ???

    Hello,
Got a couple of questions on install/uninstall via GPO and how to deploy reader updates.
    1) How to uninstall older version of readers via GPO?
    2) Is there an ADM file available for installing the latest reader via GPO?
    3) For reader patch updates, can it be deployed via GPO?  If yes, any docs. I can refer to?  If no, what is the minimum priviledge I must grant to domain users to allow them to run the update function w/in the reader (or assign to a specific file path)?
    Thanks in advance!

  • Installing Chrome via GPO

Hi! I've been working on trying to install Chrome to all Domain Computers via GPO by following this link and cannot figure out what I've been doing wrong but it's not installing on any machine. Can someone tell me if something is missing from these instructions?
    http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/google-in-the-enterprise/install-chrome-via-gpo-and-save-yourself-some-time/

    Hi Lynnette74,
Based on my understanding, you would like to deploy Chrome to all Domain Computers via GPO. Right?
It would help us to narrow down the cause of this issue if you could provide the following information:
Did this issue occur in one computer or several computers? This step is to check the cause of this issue is the process of deployment or the installation.
Do this issue still occur when you manually install this software in this computer? This step is to check if the installation package cause this issue. If you can manually install
this software successfully, then the deployed installation package may be broken during the deployment. If not, the cause may be the computer or the software, such as compatibility, account permission and so on.
In addition, you can follow the steps below to check if the GPO is applied to these clients:
    Click
Start, type rsop.msc in the search box to access
    Resultant set of policy.
Check if the GPO is applied to these clients and the setting of the GPO is correct.

can't install Reader for Pocket PC on HTC Touch Diamond? why?

Run the installation on your sync pc... the installation application will run only on a pc, then, activesync installs it on your winmobile device on the next connect session.

  • Upgrade Adobe Reader via GPO

    Hello,
We have about 50 workstations with Adobe Reader 10.1.3. It was installed manually. Now, we would like to upgrade them to version 11 via GPO. Can someone provide me the step-by-step instruction on how to do that? I've seen some articles but scenarios are different because we never had GPO created for Adobe Reader.
    Thanks!

One word of warning, I've been pushing Reader through our GPO for the last year or so and it's not 100% flawless. Which, to be fair, a lot of GPO installs seem to fall into the "not 100% category". Tried several different ways ranging from keeping huge version lists that grow with every patch and doing the package upgrade method noted in the admin guide linked above (which is a great general purpose guide by the way, used it a good deal) to making completely new packages every patch and removing old installs from GPO so only current ones are there. The problem we always hit is that sometimes the version you're replacing does not fully go away. You'll get cases where you've upgraded a group through several versions, and then when you do an inventory on a random machine you'll find that it reports having the current version, and one or more old versions as well. So if you are moving to GPO from another deployment solution, depending on how many computers you are deploying to a good software inventory piece is handy. I often find remnant keys in the installer reg entries which are pretty normal to check when doing reg cleanup, but also when deploying via GPO there's HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Group Policy\AppMgmt which holds keys for everything the system thinks it has installed via GP. These don't always get cleared properly, and will have the PC report software as installed even if it's gone. Just a quirk to keep an eye out for, expecially if you are trying to maintain app counts on your workstations. Also: Adobe Customization Wizard.. learn it, love it.

  • How can I install Reader to a non default location (i.e., d:\)

I have a company netbook with very limited space on the ssd C:\ drive.  Running Win XP SP3.  Is there anyway i can install reader to another drive on this system?

You can change the installation path when you install in UI mode via clicking on"Change Destination Folder" button. This button will allow you to browse in your computer drives.
As shown in the highlighted button in the below image.

  • Installing client via gpo vs client push?

    hello all
When it comes to pushing the sccm 2012 client does anyone have any thoughts on the pros and cons of pushing via gpo? We are exploring this as an option. We used client push in the past but wanted to give group policy a try. Just as a side note the sccm 2012
client is already on all of our clients and servers from a previous failed site deployment. So this would be a new client (same version CM12) and a different site code.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi,
I like to use Jason Sandys excellen startup script is executed as an startup script.. it provides much more control and many more features than using the .adm files which ships with SCCM 2012.
Compared to Client push there are many advantages as well, you don't have to open all the ports on the client, the script provides more features like wmi-check. It is a great resource.

Since the client is already installed on each computer with the old site code how will the install behave considering that piece?

  • I can't install Reader XI

Hi, I am having problems to install Reader XI, when I donwload the file, and executed it, it starts the proccess of installing it, when it seems that is finishing, suddenly shows an error in installation and shows me this message:
I tried everything I could find as guide here on adobe.com but nothing is working...
    What can I do?
    Thanks,
    Konrad

If you hsve tried everything I may be wasting my time, but you can try using this tool to remove all traces of Reader:
    http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html
Then, you may download the offline Reader installer from
    http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/
After downloading, restart your computer and run the installer before doing anything else.

  • Can't install Reader for Pocket PC on Motorola i920

I have a Nextel (Sprint) Motorola i920 smartphone with Windows Mobile 2003. I can run the Reader install on my laptop (XP) with ActiveSync running and everything goes fine until  it tries to install on the the phone. I get a message saying the program cannot be installed because it's not digitally signed with a trusted certificate. FYI this isn't the only software i've tried to install; so far they all have refused to install for the same reason.

The software would not install, having downloaded the dot exe from Adobe.
We have resolved the issue, through using a cleanup tool,
    Thanx, for the post.

  • Can I instal Reader to a drive other than C:?

Is someone able to tell me how to instal Reader to a drive other than C:?
I am trying to free up space on C: and prefer to load the Reader files into another drive, but I did not see an option to do that when downloading, and the installer just starts automatically without prompting for a target folder.

Use the offline installer from http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/ and click on Change Destination Folder
