Can I Install SOA Suite 10.1.3.1 on Enterprise Linux 64 bit ?

Hi everyone.
I just downloaded and installed Oracle Enterprise Linux 5.1 for x86_64.
I tried installing SOA suite 10.1.3.1 and failed the distro check. I then tried to do this with the ignoreSysPreReqs switch and got the following exception :
/tmp/OraInstall2008-01-17_03-50-18PM/jre/1.4.2/lib/i386/libawt.so: libXp.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
So is this instalation possible ?
Thanassis

With new products and point releases coming out so often (which is a good thing) from Oracle development, there would be no way that Development could forsee in advance every single package that might be needed to install the various Oracle technology stacks.
But finding and installing whatever packages you need is pretty painless using Yum and Up2Date on Enterprise Linux.
Take a look at the following and use in conjunction with the setup guide
http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/linux/htdocs/yum-repository-setup.html

    Hi, Bas
    Thanks again for your help!
I can't download the patchsets from metalink because I do not have a metalink account. It is impossible for me to buy oracle's products for the reason that I am a student at school. I use oracle just for learning.
So it seems like that the only way I can go is to use XE. But I still want to ask you if there is another way for me to get the patchsets for db 10.2.0.1.
I appreciate your help very much.

  • Can I install SOA Suite 11 without DBA user?

I will use the RCU tool for create the required SOA's schemas on an Oracle database for my installation. But my company's policies prohibit me to use a user with DBA privileges. So my question is, It's possible to install the SOA Suite using a user who is not a DBA?
Furthermore, as a migration test I 'm planning to create the SOA's schemas in a database "A" with its DBA user, then perform a schema export of the newly created to finally perform a import of that in another database "B" using its DBA user. Does this will work? My concerns have to do with privileges not granted in the new database.
    Thanks in advance!

You don't need to have the DBA role to create users, but you need the specific rights granted to create the users, roles, tables, etc. Unfortunately, I don't have a complete list of GRANTS you need to be able to create the complete schemas.
To export/import a schema, you could either export the complete user or just the tables. The later requires that you create the user with exactly the same rights and tablespaces.
All this is much easier, if you have the DBA role granted...
Unfortunately, the installations guides in the product documentation (http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E15523_01/index.htm) don't provide any clues.

  • Can i install the Portal Server 7 on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 ?

    hi all,
Can i install Portal Server 7 on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 ?
    Thnx in Advance.

    Hi All,
After tearing my hair out for about 3 weeks I've figured following are the steps for installing Sun Portal Server 7 on RH Linux 4. These though help successful installation I am still struggling to get the Single Sign On for the sample applications working.
    1. Boot linux with the network cable disconnected. (cable disconnected or wireless disabled is very important).
    2. set Hostname to localhost.localdomain
    3. Start INstaller (I always used the root login).
    4. Once the components list comes up "select All" then unselect "Sun POrtal Server 7" and "Sun Java System Portal Secure Remote Access". (trust me firends I am not kidding around).
    5. Follow steps of installation. Provide a password wherever requested. Highly suggested that you note down the options and the values you are entering in each step. Its about 20 page installer. Also whereever host and domain is asked for use localhost.localdomain. IP should be 127.0.0.1. Valid IP and valid domain name will also work but I haven't gone that route yet.
    6. Take special note of the LDAP Admin Password and LDAP user password. Note the usernames too. The admin password and user passwords HAVE to be different. DO NOT Forget the admin password. Default admin name is amAdmin.
    7. Go ahead and let the installation complete.
    8. I always used localhost.localdomain as domain name and host name and IP to loopback address 127.0.0.1
Once the installation is complete start newly installed server in the following sequence
    A. To start localhost slapd:
    cd /var/opt/sun/directory-server/slapd-localhost/
    ./start-slapd
    cd /var/opt/sun/directory-server/
    ./start-admin
(you can test here by running ./startconsole and loggin in using the admin username and password (you you should have remembered those... don't tell me I didn't warn you :)...)
    B. To start Sun Java System Application Server
    cd /opt/sun/appserver/bin
./asadmin start-domain --user [username] --passwordfile [a simple txt file with only the password in it] [domain name]
    e.g.
    ./asadmin start-domain user admin passwordfile adminpassword.txt domain1 OR
    ./asadmin start-domain user admin password pass123 domain1
takes a few seconds to kick it off.
open browser and go to http://localhost.localdomain:8080/ to check if application server is running
    C. To start Identity Server
    cd /opt/sun/identity/bin
    ./amserver start
Now go to the SunPortal Server installer again and run it.
    9. In the screen that asks whether you want to install only or configure select configure now.
    10. Fill in required parameters like password. and user name. ( I kept ALL default and used the same password all throughout except for LDAP admin, I am doing this for a PoC so security be damned at the moment ).
    11. Be sure to fill in the correct LDAP admin and user passwords because else installation will fail.
    12. Let the installation roll
    13. At about 38% it will give a popup warning configuration may take upto an hour. If you get to click on this popups ok button good things are progressing fine. If not some server didn't start right.
    14. Takes about 15 minutes (depends on machine config) after you hit okay for the configuration to complete. Anything lesser check logs for any failure notices.
    15. IF all success reported congratulations!!!
    16. Goto http://localhost.localdomain:8080/portal/ to go to portal home page
    IT STILL DOESN"T WORK!!! HELP!!!
Folks after all I said above it still doesn't work. When I go to any of the portal server Sample Applications and try to log in using the default usernames
    Community Samples has test/test
Enterprise Sample has mary/mary ed/ed etc
I cannot log in... The screen simply refreshes but doesn't go anywhere.
I am suspecting this is because the domain and host is pointing to localhost.localdomain instead it should be given a valid domain name and a valid host and a valid IP instead of 127.0.0.1. If anyone can throw anymore light on this I'll be grateful.

    Hi Avi,
    Thanks for your reply.
I was able to install the packages, not eactly the same way as u told but I downloaded them from http://public-yum.oracle.com/ and installed them manually. Was also able to change parameters.
And Bingo, there was no pre-requisite failures while installing SOA.
One of the probs that I'm facing now is that when I try to access the WLS Console of SOA after creating domain, I'm able to open it on the local machine using IP and localhost. But it doesn't work the same way when I use hostname. It gives an error saying No Route to the Host. Also I'm not able to access WLS Console from any other machine using IP address of the machine.
Any inputs that can be of any help.
    Cheers,

  • Installing SOA Suite 11gR1 + OSB 11gR1 on Solaris x64

    Experts,
I'm having some trouble installing SOA Suite and OSB on Solaris x64.
According to the last certification matrix
    [http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/downloads/fmw-11gr1certmatrix.xls]
ALL products are supported on Solaris x64 (version 11.1.1.4+) , but when trying to execute the runInstaller I get the following error:
    $ ./runInstaller -jreLoc /usr/jdk/instances/jdk1.6.0/
    ./runInstaller: /soasoat/install/SOA/Disk1/install/solaris/runInstaller: cannot execute
I searched in eDelivery but there aren't any SOA installers (for version 11.1.1.1) for Solaris on x64
Is there any way to bypass this error?
    Thanks in advance.
    Leandro

    Hi Leandro
    1. SOA Installer has nothing to do with 32/64 bit. I mean there is NO specific 64 bit version of soa software. It is the underlying Weblogic Server that matters.
    2. Since you have 64 bit machine, very first thing, you should install a 64 Bit JDK (Sun or JRockit). And make sure to put this in path. When you run java -version, you should see this 64 bit jdk referred. Now comes Weblogic Server. You need to Download Weblogic Server Generic Installer (file ending with .jar). Then you install Weblogic server using command something like this:
java -d64 -jar weblogic_generic_xxxx.jar (Try -d or -D). After installation, now you have Weblogic Server 64 Bit installed on top of 64 Bit JDK.
    3. Now run the SOA Installer and for the jre, you can refer the above jdk/jre location.
    Thanks

Can anyone please help me to resolve this issue?
    Thanks

    Hi,
you are installing on Linux or Windows?
There is a directory called oraInventory. You have to delete that one, because Oracle stores information about all installations in that directory. But be careful:
If you have other Oracle products installed, you should not remove this directory.
You can try to use the OUI to perform a uninstall. After that the oraInventory should be clean...

  • Installing SOA suite on Vista

    hello everyone !
Could you anyone help me about the steps i need to follow
in order to install SOA suite on windows Vista?
    Thank you
Checking OS must be 5.0, 5.1, 5.2 Actual 6.0 Failed

SOA Suite will use its own HTTP server.
Choose the full SOA Suite option the HTTP server will be installed, If you want to use the DB http server make sure it is started so there is no future port conflicts.
You can do advanced but you must have run the pre-req steps of installing the schemas irca.
Advanced is a more stable platform but because you use a enterprise database it uses more resources. If you choose basic it will install olite as the dehydtration store. This database can get corrupt. XE is generally a better option if you are just mucking around trying to learn. Enterprise Edition is more for production builds
    cheers

  • Installing SOA Suite on the integrated WLS in JDeveloper

    Hi,
I'm wondering if it's possible to install SOA suite on the integrated WebLogic provided with JDeveloper?
If it is not possible, what is the recommended way for provisioning for development? Is it to install a full-blown WebLogic & SOA Suite on each developers' machine?

    Hi Mark,
No, it is not possible to install SOA on the integrated WLS in JDeveloper. There are some technical issues preventing it now but we would like to get this working in the future.
So yes, you can install the full WLS + SOA on your own machine for development. After you install, go into WLS and turn off whatever you are not using to shrink the footprint (e.g., you don't need both soa composer and bpm composer, you don't need both worklist and workspace).

  • Installing SOA Suite

    Hi Every1,
When installing SOA suite, it is throwing an error on the database connection page.
Error: Database version should be 9.2.0.7 or higher in the Oracle 9i database release 2 series, 10.1.0.5 or higher in the Oracle Database 10gRelease 1 series, Oracle Database XE 10.2.0.2 or higher in the oracle database 10g release 2 series.
The SOA suite which I have downloaded is 10gR3 and my database is at 11g.
I believe DB 11g is supported for SOA 10gR3. Can any one please guide me ?
    Thanks.
    -Irfan

    Hi IrFan,
    It is supported.
To install the soa suite you need a small patch (patchnr. 6265268 ) on the installation files.
See metalink note 740417.1 for details.

  • Install SOA suite components on different cpu

If we buy one copy of the CPU license of SOA suite (list price 65,000/cpu), can we deploy its components on different CPUs? For example, can we run its Portal on one machine, its BEPL Process manager on the second machine, and BAM on a third machine. Is their a limitation on how many CPUs we can run the one SOA suite (CPU) license? Thanks in advance for your help.

    Fabian,
Oracle's support for other applications servers such as JBoss, Websphere, WebLogic, etc is more a sales story than something that people do in practice. Oracle doesn't want to lose a sale because a customer has a strategic alliance with a particular application server. So they support SOA Suite on the main competitors. Licensing is a dark art and I couldn't give you a 100% guarantee on how SOA Suite is sold but to get SOA Suite you need to license enterprise Application Server. SOA Suite is on top of this. If you turn it around if you buy SOA suite you get Oracle Application Server enterprise edition (includes OC4J) for free.
So if you are looking at using JBoss for a cost cutting exercise I don't believe the licensing at Oracle will help you.
The install for SOA Suite is the install for ESM + WSM, there is no separate install for these products for thrid party application servers. So you topology is not as flexible as it could be is you used Oracle Application Server.
Your proposed option of SOA Suite (ESB, WSM) is an option using the document provided in previous post.
When I say Oracle Application Server I mean Oracles existing Application Server, Not Web Logic. There is currently a progression of porting the OC4J apps to Weg Logic, this should be completed when 11g arrives. There are a few version release before this happens, each one providing more functionality.
If I was you I would understand the price of SOA Suite on JBoss as apposed to Oracle Application Server. If the price comes close then I would go with using the Oracle Application Server. If you want to use the ESB, I would go with Aqua Logic installed on WLS. Currently SOA Suite is not certified on the 10.3 release hence keep it on the Oracle Application Server. There will be a migration path to 11g next year.
    cheers
