Can I install Windows 7 (32/64 bit) with bootcamp 3 on an iMac 11,3 (mid 2010)

My cousin has an iMac Mid 2010 (11,3) and installed Windows 7 (32bit) on a Bootcamp Partition (NTFS) with 100GB.
But after trying to boot with windows, the boot stops and Mac OS comes to front......
Is it possible to install Windows 7 with bootcamp 3 on an iMac?
Apple says only XP or Vista 32 bit is possible....
But here I read Windows 7 also.... ?!
What's going wrong?

  • Can I install window 7 enterprise 32 bit on MacBook Pro

I have installed window 7 enterprise 32 bit on my MacBook Pro but it appears no software drivers such as Bluethoot USB Bost Controller, Enternet Controller, FaceTIme HD Camera (Built-in), Network Controller...etc. Then I tried to download Boot Camp Support Software 4 but it did not work.
So, can i install window 7 enterprise 32 bit on Mac? How to solve this problem?
    Thanks!

You don't say what year/version Macbook Pro you have. Newer Macbook Pros only support 64 bit Windows. See the tables here to see which Windows your computer supports. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5634
There are several reasons you should use 64 bit Windows on a newer Macbook Pro:
    Your computer is 64 bit
32 bit Windows can only use about 3.5 GB of your installed ram
32 bit programs run in 64 bit Windows
There is no reason to use 32 bit Windows in a modern Macbook Pro.

  • Can i install windows 8.1 over xp in bootcamp

Can I install windows 8.1 over xp in bootcamp?

Is it on the system drive? on its own drive or is it large enough?
Windows 8.1 will run even without Apple's drivers just fine except for a couple items.
Boot Camp forum probably is best place.
Boot Camp is software (and a forum) as in drivers and Boot Camp Assistant.
You have to do a "custom" clean install, you can't upgrade from within XP, you should of course be using 64-bit and Pro for supporting two cpus.

  • How to install windows 8.1 64 bit with a DVD

has anyone found a workaround to install windows 8.1 64 bit with a retail DVD?

    Gotcha!!
I am done with mounting a secondary HDD (thanks to ifixit) and installing Windows 8 Pro 64 bit on it without a worry. Charm, charm!!
Boot Camp 5 guide prescribes all needed steps and when read and used correctly, installation must be an easy task. And all the existing apple hardwares work so good in the Windows environment too.
I am going to help out a friend of mine in doing a similar thing on his mac too. If you got specific questions, please do shoot up here and i should be able to get a reply to it (if at all).
    Thanks everyone.

  • Can I install Windows XP Pro 64 bit on this specific Mac Pro?

I have a 2x3GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon. It's not one of the newest machines. It's from the first rev of dual-quads that came out. I bought it in mid-2007.
I'd love to install Windows XP Pro 64-bit on a second hard drive.
    - Can I install Win XP 64 on this Mac?
    - If so, what version of Win XP Pro do I need to get?
    Thanks,
    ----------S

    Hi Steve,
in theory you can install XP 64-bit Professional, which by the way is the only version of a 64-bit XP avaiable.
There is no 64-bit XP Home.
BUT, since Apple does not provide any drivers for 64-bit XP, you are on your own to look and find the needed drivers for it.
You at least need drivers from Intel (for chipset, SATA and NIC) Realtek (for audio) Microsoft (for support of HD-Audio) and ATI/NVIDIA (for graphics card).
You will still be missing any kind of Apple specifics like Keyboard functions, but should be able to run and work with XP-64.
    Good Luck

  • Installing Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit with Boot Camp

I am using a 17" MacBook Pro with and Intel i7 2.66 GHz processor, 8GB 1067 MHz RAM and a 7200RPM 500GB hard drive. I am trying to install Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit via Boot Camp. I do what Boot Camp tells me to do, but when my MacBook Pro restarts to boot from the Windows 7 disc, all I get get is a white screen! I have tried to boot manually from the Windows 7 disc, but it won't boot. It freezes on the white screen and I have to reboot the Mac using the Mac OS X partition. How can I fix this ASAP so I can install Windows 7? I need to get it done TONIGHT!

I'd recommend posting this in the Boot Camp forum, this is a general MBP forum.

  • Installing Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit on Bootcamp issue

Hi I'm a newbie, I would like to install Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit using boot camp. I went into boot camp to partition and split the 1 terabyte hardrive. half is for Leopard, the other half is for Windows Vista.
I followed the steps and popped in the disk, awhile later I get a message saying "Where do you want to install Windows?"
    It's showing:
    Disk 0 Partition 1 200 mb primary
    Disk 0 Partition 2 466 gb Primary
Disk 0 unallocated space 128 mb
Disk 0 partition 3 Boot camp 464 gb Primary.
which ever one I click on it says "Windows Cannot be installed to this hard disk space. Windows must be installed to a partition formatted as NTFS"
I can't get passed this part, what do I do?
    Any help is greatly appreciated

    Hi Stuart,
Vista needs its system partition to be formatted with NTFS.
The BootCamp Asistant does a pre-format with FAT32 since OSX can not write to NTFS partitions (only read).
Therefor you have to reformat the Windows partition with the Vista Installer to NTFS.
See page 11 of the BootCamp Setup Guide found here http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/ (and it's also part of the BootCamp Assistant).
    Regards
    Stefan

  • How can I install windows XP in my Macbook using bootcamp?

I`ve just bought my mackbook Pro and I`m student of engineering. I`d like to install windows XP in my macbook to use some especifics softwares! But when I use bootcamp, Mac just gives me the option to install Windows 7? How can I install Windows XP? Thanks at all!

Bootcamp 4 which ships with Lion doesn't support XP or Vista, only 7.  Try using Parallels or VMWare instead.

  • Can I install Windows 7 upgrade (from XP) to BootCamp?

I currently use Snow Leopard and have a Boot Camp partition running Windows XP Professional. It was a pain to install, because I had the upgrade version, and you can't eject CDs from the optical drive during the installation process to put the old CD in to prove you already own a copy of Windows. Let's just say I found a way around that and was able to install XP which currently works fine.
I am now considering trying out Windows 7. If I get it, it will be the upgrade version as well. Will it be possible to install that to Boot Camp from XP? I know there are issues upgrading from XP to Windows 7, in that it has to be a custom install. I don't care about losing Windows settings and files; in fact, I would much prefer to do a clean install. Does anyone know if that is possible using an upgrade CD or will I have the same problem of not being able to eject the CD to put an old one in during the installation process?

If you thought what I was saying was off-base, perhaps you still don't understand my question, since none of your answers has addressed it.
I don't want to do the "upgrade" process. I was very familiar, even before you posted several links saying the same thing over and over, that you can't do that from XP to Win 7 anyway, but even if you could you wouldn't want to. I get the difference of upgrade v. migrate, etc., etc. Please don't link to it again. That is not my question.
All I want to know is this: If you are using an upgrade CD to install Windows 7 (as opposed to a full install CD, and not to be confused with the "upgrade" process), will there be an issue with switching it out during installation and not being able to get it out of the optical drive?
When I clean-installed XP to Boot Camp using an upgrade XP CD, you couldn't do that, because it needed proof of a prior copy of Windows during the installation process and there was no way to switch out the discs. This was a weird glitch of needing to eject from the optical drive during the installation process but having no way to do so at that particular point in the installation. It had nothing to do with anything about Windows licenses, upgrade pathways, etc. It was a technical oddity because of the hardware.
From Apple support site re. XP and Vista with Boot Camp:
"Important: _You must use a single full-install Windows installation disc._ Service pack 2 is required for Windows XP installations. Do not install an earlier version of Windows XP and attempt to update it later to service pack 2. Use only 32-bit versions of Windows."
You don't need to answer this. BlueDevilKurz somehow understood exactly what I was asking and responded several posts ago as well as anyone can until Windows 7 is actually released and we know for sure. But if you want to, it's a Yes or No question, with a second bonus Yes or No question.
    1. Can I use an upgrade Windows 7 CD/DVD (rather than full install media) to install Windows 7 on a Boot Camp partition that currently has XP?
    2. Can I use an upgrade Windows 7 CD/DVD (rather than full install media) to install Windows 7 on a Boot Camp partition that is currently empty (no XP installed)?

"Go into System Preferences - Network - Advanced - Proxies  Uncheck "Auto Proxy Discovery", click OK, Apply"
After Unchecking "Auto Proxy Discovery" I also had to Uncheck "Use Passive FTP Mode (PASV)" and then Restart Boot Camp Assistant.
odiggy's comment and tried restarting Boot Camp Assistant. That did the trick, even though the Auto Proxy Discovery checkbox ended up the same as it started.  Windows support software is now downloading...  if you're downloading to an external drive make sure there's a least 1 GB of free space because the WindowsSupport folder is around 700 MB and presumably will grow with time.

Also, Change Domain Name Servers to OpenDNS IP address servers - that should be at the router firewall rather than the OS but may be in both for some people. You may be using the defaults your ISP uses, save those if you want, and try these:
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
Make sure you are not using LittleSnitch or Symantec (probably other 3rd party firewall)

  • I can't install Mavericks on a Macbook pro with Bootcamp

    Hi all,
I tried to upgrade my MacBook pro which was running Lion and Windows 7 installed with Bootcamp, with Mavericks. I ran the installation program from within OS X Lion and after a while, it said that Mavericks cannot be installed because of a bootcamp partition on the disk. Did someone had similar troubles to install Mavericks with a bootcamp partition ?
    Thanks,
    Alan.

The warranty entitles you to complimentary phone support for the first 90 days of ownership.
If you bought the product in the U.S. directly from Apple (not from a reseller), you have 14 days from the date of delivery in which to exchange or return it for a refund. In other countries, the return policy may be different. If you bought from a reseller, its return policy applies.

This is a Core-M and slower MHz so it will be limited. Would expect though that Windows 10 even the current builds Tech Preview would be more suitable (and you can download the ISO from Microsoft for now for free remember). I use 10-TP on i7-4771 and it handles very nice.
