Can i install windows 8.1 on my mac using an oem disk ?

I just bought a windows 8.1 SL OEM disk, i want to install it on my MAC, someone please help me with it

To use bootcamp 5.1 assistant you need an ios file of windows and not a disk.
You can technically get around this by clean installing OSX (you will need to also create two separate partitions;a windows and OSX partition, with the disk utility before installing OSX).
After that you can put the windows disk into the disk drive then reboot making sure to hold the alt key during boot. Then select the "EFI"option on the boot section screen that appears; after holding alt.
Now follow the windows set up instructions.
After installing windows reboot back into OSX and  reopen the bootcamp assistant and "download the latest support software" as you will need that to install the drivers in windows.

Can I install Windows 8 (DEMO) on a MAC and play windows based games ?

I installed the Developer beta with Bootcamp Assistant yesterday and was very impressed with the ease of the installation. Unfortunately, and I don't know if this is a problem with my video BIOS on my Macbook Air, but Windows 8 installs with two screens split horizontally - so it's effectively useless.
I tried 3 times and gave up. The same thing happens with Linux distributions, however with Linux I can pass "nomodeset" on the kernel command line which fixes it. I don't know how to do that in Windows.
This was happening with both 64x and 32-bit Win8 fwiw.
Oh, also...when I was trying to play around with Bootcamp.exe inside Windows 8, I remember a message popping up saying Bootcamp is only configurable with Windows 7 ISOs. But aside from the kernel graphics issues and some driver compatibility problems, Bootcamp loaded the Win8 ISOs fine.

  • Can I install Windows 8 on an older Mac Pro with Mavericks upgrade?

I have an Early 2008 Mac Pro which I just upgraded to Mavericks, which came with Boot Camp 5.1. Can I install Windows 8 on my machine? The information on this site suggests I can only use Windows 7 with Boot Camp 4 on my system, but does this take an upgraded OS into account? Put another way, is the version compatibility determined only by my OS, or also by my hardware (processor, memory, etc.). This is the first time I will be using Boot Camp to install Windows on this machine.

no, it is determined mainly by machine type then by requisite driver support in the OSX
officially, x64 w7 is as far as you can go but google around, i'm sure there have been people who got w8 to work

  • How can I install Adobe flash player on my Mac using Safari OR Chrome? I have gone through every step on all of the help pages. The installation process always stops with the black box that briefly says, "Retrieving Install . . . ", then nothing.

I have followed every step in the various help pages I was directed to when troubleshooting the inability to install Adobe Flash Player on my Mac using either Safari or Chrome. Everything has failed. I always get the black box that says briefly, "Retrieving instal. . . " and then goes blank. When I close that window, I get the message, "Adobe Flash Player could not be installed." Then it gives some links to follow for troubleshooting. I have followed ALL of the links there and on other help pages, to no avail. I've run into problems installing Adobe before, but it's never been this bad. Would someone please develop another format besides Adobe? Trying to get help from Adobe feels a little like trying to find a building in New York City with no map or GPS. The time required is voluminous, the emotional energy a/k/a frustration is overwhelming, and long before I get anything resolved, I wish the earth would open up and swallow all things Adobe@. Absence that miraculous intervention, I have to figure out what to do next. Does anyone know? Anyone?

  • Can i install windows 7 64bit on my mac

I have 16gb of Ram installed on my iMac and Windows 7 installed amd it is only using 2.23gb of it, and it is very anoying. I need to know if I can install 64 bit eddition Windows 7 on it before I go out and spend the money on it.

Yes, isn't the 64bit version on the same set of disks with the 32 bit version, mine did.
64 bit can address the more RAM, as you likely know now.

  • I can't install windows 7 in bootcamp on mac mini 2011

I have a 2011 Mac mini (no optical drive). I have a brand new Samsung external DVD drive conntected via USB. I put the Windows 7 DVD (64-bit) in the external drive and the Windows support software is on a USB stick that is in a USB port. I partition the drive in the Bootcamp assistant, then when it reboots all I see is a black screen. Nothing happens. The Mac mini is connected to a TV via HDMI.

Did you format the drive to NTFS (using the windows installer tools) yet?

Hello, I have a Yoga 2 13 inch with the 500GB Hybrid drive.  When i try to upgrade to Windows 10, either via internet connection or USB drive created with MediaCreator, I get the message: "You can't install Windows on a USB flash drive using setup" It seemt that setup is seeing the Hybrid drive's 32GB of flash as if it were an external USB drive. Anyone know how I can fix this? Thanks,Ski

Yes, you should check the Disk Management also again. The SSD should be displayed there, if it is not being displayed then change the Boot Mode from UEFI to Legacy and try to install windows. (And Yes SecureBoot needs to be Disabled)
Ideally, the SSD should be initialized first from the Disk Management (But after all tries if you still can't see it, just try the above method.

  • How can i install windows games in my macbook pro

I m a game lover but since i've macbook pro,i haven't played any game on my macbook...so guys please tell me how can i install windows games to my macbook pro.

As eww said, that computer isn't specifically made for gaming. To get advanced graphics in a game, your computer needs what is called a "discrete" graphics processor, or GPU. This means a seperate chip that processes graphics. In Apple laptops, these are only found in the 15" and 17" MacBook Pro. It is not common to find these in laptops in general that are not expensive and high-end. What you have in yours is an "on-board" or "integrated" GPU. This means that graphics processing is done by a small portion of your main processor (the Intel i5 board). This takes away a portion of primary prossessing and dedicates it to graphics. This works perfectly find in most scenarios, but video rendering, gaming, and 3-D graphics tend to suffer. Most high-end, modern games require discrete GPUs to run at full quality these days.
As far as running Windows 7 and Mac OS both, yes you absolutely can. If you install Windows 7 via Bootcamp (this would require you to have a Windows 7 CD), when you turn on your computer it will default to opening up in Mac OS. But if you hold down the Option key (bottom of the keyboard next to the Command button) while the computer is booting up, it will ask you if you want to open Windows or Mac OS.

  • How can I install windows 8 on a mac without superdrive?

    Hi there.
I have an old Macbook pro (early 2007) which is still quite good, except from the superdrive which got broken.
I would like to completely wipe out OSX (Lion) from that and install Windows 8 instead.
Problem is, I cannot install it from optical drive, since it's broken (and plus, I don't have access to an external drive).
Is it even possible to install windows 8 from USB on this computer? If so, what should I do?
    Thank you!

You can only install Windows from an external disc drive or an USB drive in one of these computers:
    - MacBook Pro with Retina display.
    - MacBook Air.
    - iMac (Late 2012).
    - Mac mini (Mid 2010 and newer).
As you don't have any of these computers, you need the SuperDrive to install Windows 8. In your case, you have to install a SuperDrive in your MacBook Pro in order to install Windows by using Boot Camp

  • I can't install Windows 8.1 on my Imac with Mavericks using Bootcamp. Why?

I can't install Windows 8.1 on my Imac 27" with Mavericks using Bootcamp. Why? I first did all the software updates needed, downloaded the driver software to a 32Gb flash drive formatted as FAT32, fired up Bootcamp Assistant, inserted the Windows 8.1 Full version 64 bit installation DVD as requested, and got as far as partitioning (tried this at 82 Gb for the Windows partition), then the MAC rebooted but halted before getting to the login page. Then a black screen came up with the error message: 'non-system disk - Press any key to reboot'. I did this and nothing happened. I was forced to shut down forcibly then restart with my finger held down on the option key. Then a screen came up with two icons: the macintosh HD icon and the Windows DVD icon. I double-clicked on the Windows DVD icon and the MAC came up with another black screen and error message: 'CDBoot: Couldn't find BOOTMGR'. Had to shut down forcibly again and restart as before, this time ejecting the Windows DVD first. Then I repartitioned my MAC back to all OSX. What the **** do I do now? Applecare couldn't help me beyond this point. They said to contact Microsoft. I notice a lot of other MAC owners have had similar problems.
    Please help? tagjsmith.

  • Can't install Windows 7/8 on MacBook Pro 13 Mid-2009

Hello I have a Upgraded 13-inch MacBook Pro, Mid 2009 (Core 2 Duo, 8GB RAM, 250 GB Samsung 840 EVO SSD) and I can't seem to install either Windows 7 or 8.
    Windows 7:
I have tried many ISO's and Bootable USB creating methods, Including BootCamp, but once in the installation is progressing I ALWAYS get the following error:
"Windows Cannot install required files. the file may be corrupted or missing... 0x80070570"
When I use a DVD (Created on my PC using Windows 7 USD/DVD download tool) It gets to the installation screen but gets stuck at 0%, I left it for 3 Hours and it was still at 0%.
I got Windows 7 running on VirtualBox flawlessly with the same ISO's without the above error.
    Windows 8:
I have created Windows 8.1 Bootable USBs on my PC using various methods, I can view the files when on OS X Mavericks but when a Restart and Hold option I can't see the USB. I can't create a Bootable USB on my mac using bootcamp, I have unlocked the "Create a windows install disk" (but it's not windows 7 OR LATER) and when I try to crate it with my 8.1 ISO I get the error:
"Boot Camp only supports Windows 7 installation on this platform. Please use an ISO file for Windows 7 installation."
And when I use the DVD I created (On my PC) It gets stuck at the Blue Windows Logo
NOTE: When I have my DVD (both windows 7/8) and they're stuck at their respective screens, I can hear the Disc spinning then stopping for a couple of  seconds and then spinning for a couple of seconds repetitively.
    Thank You In advanced.

Hold your "Option" key down while starting your machine.  Continue to hold it down until you are presented with the boot menu which should allow you to select either OS X or Windows (provided you didn't somehow wipe your OS X partition).  When you get into OS X, you can go to System Preferences / Startup Disk.  Here you can select the default startup partition (OS X or Windows)... when you're installing Windows via BootCamp, it gets changed to Windows so when you finish setting up BootCamp, it automatically reboots and launches the Windows installer.  Installing all of the Windows drivers from the OS X DVD should provide you with a Startup Disk option under Windows as well.
