Can I install windows 8/8.1 with bootcamp 4?

Hi,
I have a iMac from late 2009 with an intel core 2 duo cpu,According to the apple website I can only install upto win7 on bootcamp 4 & bootcamp 5 in incompaticable. Is there any way I can run win8.1 on my imac without using such softwares as parallells?

If the Apple site said you can't, then why do you think asking here will change the answer?
What makes you think Boot Camp 5 is incompatible? If you can install Mavericks then Boot Camp 5 was installed in the Utilities folder.

  • Can I install Windows 7 upgrade version with Bootcamp on my MAC Book Pro?

I currently don't have Windows on my Mac book Pro.  I am trying to avoid the high cost of the full version.   My friend said they knew someone who was able to use the upgradable version to install it on their PC using bootcamp.
Also is Parallell really worth the extra cost?  I will be primary working on my OS OPsystem and only need windows for a few specific things.

Have you actually tried to install an upgrade version of Windows 7 without a previous version of Windows installed ?
FYI: Google "Windows 7 upgrade double install".  This was primarily to do clean installs of Windows Vista using the upgrade product keys, but it still works with Windows 7.  I use this technique for cases where the owner upgraded to Win7, but didn't make the recovery disks of XP when they originally got the computer (and the computer didn't come with recovery disks,) then the HD fails and so we have to install Windows 7 from scratch to a new HD using the upgrade product keys without any previous copy of Windows.

  • Can't install Windows 8.1 because the Bootcamp Assistant-partitioned disk is GBT and not MBR.

I can’t install Windows 8.1 because the Bootcamp Assistant-partitioned disk is GBT and not MBR, and attempting to format the bootcamp disk does nothing. I have read up on this issue, and the only solution seems to be to make a backup of my computer and reformat all disks via 8.1 setup terminal. I REALLY do not want to do that, is there any way to fix this? I’m on OS X Yosemite, if that pertains to the thread.

Interesting. It wouldn’t install because I had FileVault enabled. Huh. Disabling it saved the day.

  • Can't install Windows on my iMac with 16 Go !

    Hello !
I bought an iMac i7 3.4 GHz SSD + 1TB drive and 4GB of ram. I replaced the 4 GB of RAM with 16 GB purchased from Crucial (4 strips 4GB with a priori the same features as the apple strips which are Samsung ...).
Everything is fine when I use Mac OS 10.6.8. No memory problem.
By cons, can not install Windows 7 32 bit or 64. An error occurs during the installation process : 0x80070570. After a little research on the forums, it is an error that may be due to a corrupted media - for example broken record - but this is not the case : my window installed itself perfectly on another computer.
The experience of other users evokes an error caused by memory. So I reinstalled my original bars of 2 GB. And there, no problem of installation. Windows is working properly. After reinstalling Windows, I replaced my memory with my 4 bars crucial,"and there is the drama." Windows becomes unstable : crashes, errors of registration, software installation... useless... I run a diagnostic memory test that went smoothly ! Obviously, the memory does not seem corrupted, especially since it works well on Mac OS 10.6.8.
So I decided to link the two strips origins (2 GB each) with two crucial strips (4 GBeach), a total of 12 GB of ram. And it works.
Do you have an explanation for this problem? Do you know how I can install Windows with my 16 GB crucial?
    Thank you.

You make no mention of how your are attempting to install MS Windows so it's a little tough to help you. If  you are using Boot Camp please use Boot Camp Assistant and if you still have problems please post in the Boot Camp forum. If you are using virtualization software (Fusion, Parallels etc.) then use the instructions that came with their software and if you still have difficulty please post in their forums.

  • How to Install Windows 8.1 Pro with Bootcamp

I have an early 2011 MBP 15" that's running Mavericks, and I just got Windows 8.1 Pro with an install disc. I'd like to install W8 with Bootcamp, but I can't seem to find any guides on doing this, as most people have retina MBPs which have no optical drive (bad design choice, IMO), so they utilize a flash drive. How would I go about doing this properly?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
With a disc it's much easier to install Windows 8.1 on your MacBook, because the steps are the same as for any other Windows version.
Boot Camp Assistant (in /Applications/Utilities) will guide you through the first steps. Then, follow Apple's steps to install Windows 8.1 > http://manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1636/en_US/boot_camp_install-setup_ 10.8.pdf

  • Cannot install Windows 7 (64-bit) with Bootcamp

I tried to install Windows 7 64-bit on a MacPro running MacOS 10.6.7 with Bootcamp Version 3.0.4 (325).
I get the following hardware information from 'About This Mac':
    Model Name:          Mac Pro
      Model Identifier:          MacPro1,1
      Processor Name:          Dual-Core Intel Xeon
      Processor Speed:          2.66 GHz
      Number Of Processors:          2
      Total Number Of Cores:          4
L2 Cache (per processor):          4 MB
      Memory:          4 GB
      Bus Speed:          1.33 GHz
      Boot ROM Version:          MP11.005C.B08
      SMC Version (system):          1.7f10
After I inserted the Windows installation DVD and boot it up, I got an empty screen that asked me to select boot type, 1 or 2.
The keyboard did not respond any input so the whole installation was hung.  Can someone shed some light on what may went wrong?

    You can
    Select CD-ROM Boot prompt
You just can't boot from the DVD without extra steps.
Apple uses UEFI on those Macs that are "blessed" as being compatible, and yours and mine have older 2005 era EFI32 that won't.
We also are stuck with 1.9GB usable RAM in 32-bit Vista/7 also, another blow.
And no firmware update to Unified EFI 2.x to make us "compatible." Has not stopped 1000s from doing so though.

  • I have a MacBook Pro 2006 and installed Windows 7 on it with BootCamp no problem, but the thing is on Windows, there is no sound.

Hello there everybody! I have installed Windows 7 on my MacBook Pro 2006 15' without any problems, and without any modification. I did hear that some users couldn't install it, but I have got it working fine with BootCamp 4.0.1 on Lion. So anyways, when I boot into Windows, there is no soudn, and there is also a Red Light coming from the Earphone/Headphone jack.
What should I do? This problem is really ticking me off because I only insalled Windows to lay some games my friend recommended to me. With no sound, it would be really strange playing them, especially Mass Effect.

Well I / we always kind of assume that someone did all the normal basics first and is still having trouble. And read the instructions in Boot Camp Assistant.

  • Error installing windows 7 on partition with Bootcamp.

I'm having issues when I try and istall Windows 7 using bootcamp on my Macbook Pro 15' Retina Late-2013.
I am able to create the USB Key with Windows 64-bit and Support files from apple with no issues. For this, I'm using a ScanDisk Extreme 32Gb USB 3.0.
So after creating the Key/Install Drive for Windows and the computer boots using the Flashdrive for installing windows, I get until the following step:
I am able to "Format" the Bootcamp partition (Parition 4) but when I try and select the partition for installing Windows, I get this:
I tried doing this mutiple times, earasing the bootcamp installation and starting over, re-downloading the files. I even tried to use an other Win7 ISO files from before Win7 SP1 but with no luck. I did also try to "Delete" the partition and then create a "New" partition from the unallocated space but that didn't work.
    Any advice?

So, I went ahead and contaced apple.
It was not a pleasent experiance, I kept being bounced around diffrent support people; each time having to re-explain my problem, While they where all pretty friendly and somewhat helpful, they couldn't help me. I was therefore promoted to a "Senior Advisor", I rejoiced at the idea of this. After explaining my problem in depth and going throught everything I had done, she suggested I check out this other article posted on the Support Forums.
She sent me to this: https://discussions.apple.com/message/23756557#23756557
Which sends you to this: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5488789?tstart=0
However, after following the somewhat unclear instructions on those discussions, I was completly unable to start up my bootcamp; I kept getting "Application has Crashed".
And here I am, back to square one.

  • Can I install windows 7 home premium with parallels 8

Getting confused here.  I read that Parallels 8 will not be supporting Windows 7 any longer. But will it allow me to install it on my MacBook Pro? I have machine embroidery software that uses 7 and is questionable if it will work on Windows 8.

Not sure where yo may of read that but it is totally false. Or Parallels would be losing tons of money because no one would ever buy it or upgrade the copy they now have.
Parallels is a Virtual Machine software program and should support many version of Windows along with Linux and even Mac OS X. All other VM software programs sure do. VMware Fusion and Oracle's Virtualbox.

  • Can I install Windows Server 2008 R2 using Bootcamp? I do not want to install native, but may consider if that is the only way....

I already have Win 7 on an internal Bootcamp drive. It so far has worked well, Bootcamp performance drag is minimal, if at all. Now I want to install Win Server 2008 R2 and load a bunch of virtuals using Hyper-V Manager. The virtuals are already created. This is to practice for a certification test....
Running Mountain Lion, 2010 MP 2 X 2.4 (8 core) 24 GB RAM, all HDD slots full.

Works like a charm. Apple Supports says you can have multiple instances of Bootcamp. Win Server 2008 R2 is up and running, drivers installed (except issues with Bluetooth) and accepting Windows Updates and Service Packs.

  • Error trying to install windows enterprise 8.1 with bootcamp 5.1.2

    Hi,
I have a 64 bit windows iso file for enterprise 8.1  and it is 64 bit I am running the latest bootcamp and getting the following error:
"Boot Camp only supports 64-bit Windows installation on this platform. Please use a ISO file for 64-bit Windows installation."
I'm confused bc some people on these forums are able to mount the windows enterprise OS but say not all functions are working.  I can't seem to get beyond the initial install part.
I also have an older version of bootcamp 4 and anther iso for 64bit windows 7.1 also enterprise but i'm not sure since i'm running the latest os and news MacBook Pro retina if this could cause some issues.
I need to run windows for my work and these are the only licenses they supply.
    Thanks!
    Aisling

not sure what enterprise 8.1 is vs windows 8.1 pro but maybe it's not supported
in which caseI would advice you to try installing it in a virtual machine like virtualbox (free) or parallels or vmware

  • How can I install Windows 7 by USB? MacBook late 2008 10.6.8 Boot Camp 3.0.4

    Someone please help...
I have tried software update and no luck. I think my Boot Camp on Mac 3.0.4 is not showing me the right option on creating a USB installation. It asks me to load Windows 7 CD when I don't have it, I bought it online... Every download I tried from Apple is .exe and I am losing hope on this one...

You can only install Windows from a USB with one of these Macs:
    - MacBook Pro with Retina display.
    - Mac mini (Mid 2010 and later).
    - iMac (Late 2012).
    - MacBook Air.
If you bought Windows in Internet and you got it in a ISO image, you can burn it into a DVD. Simply double-click the ISO image, open Disk Utility, right-click the ISO image in the sidebar and burn it

  • I can't install Windows 8.1 on my Imac with Mavericks using Bootcamp. Why?

I can't install Windows 8.1 on my Imac 27" with Mavericks using Bootcamp. Why? I first did all the software updates needed, downloaded the driver software to a 32Gb flash drive formatted as FAT32, fired up Bootcamp Assistant, inserted the Windows 8.1 Full version 64 bit installation DVD as requested, and got as far as partitioning (tried this at 82 Gb for the Windows partition), then the MAC rebooted but halted before getting to the login page. Then a black screen came up with the error message: 'non-system disk - Press any key to reboot'. I did this and nothing happened. I was forced to shut down forcibly then restart with my finger held down on the option key. Then a screen came up with two icons: the macintosh HD icon and the Windows DVD icon. I double-clicked on the Windows DVD icon and the MAC came up with another black screen and error message: 'CDBoot: Couldn't find BOOTMGR'. Had to shut down forcibly again and restart as before, this time ejecting the Windows DVD first. Then I repartitioned my MAC back to all OSX. What the **** do I do now? Applecare couldn't help me beyond this point. They said to contact Microsoft. I notice a lot of other MAC owners have had similar problems.
    Please help? tagjsmith.
