Can I install Windows XP with another CD than the recovery CD?

A friend of a friend ;) has a Satellite 5200. He cached a very bad virus on his Notebook, witch I couldn't remove after 2 hours of work, so I'd like to install Windows in order to "clean" the system. The problem is: he is just for visit here, and his recovery-CD is in his hometown, so I do not have the recovery-CD.
My question: can I use any other Windows XP CD - and then use the key, which I can find under the notebook? Does it have to be a "home"-CD too, or will any CD work - or will ONLY a Toshiba-recovery-CD work?
It's important for him - if it doesn't work he will buy a completely new Windows XP within the next 2 days. Because he pays me a little bit for my work, I cannot just try it out and then try it again the next day or so.
ps: how much does a new recovery-CD cost - ONLY the CD - when I purchase it an a local Toshiba dealer? I live in Germany.
Thank you

Hi
I agree with Silas. You can use an own original Microsoft Windows CD and install the OS on the Toshiba notebook.
All drivers can be found on the Toshiba page.
If you want to purchase the Toshiba recovery CD I would recommend contacting the Toshiba authorized service provider in your country.
Im not sure about the CD costs but I think its not expensive the single service points are responsible for the Recovery CD prices and this can be different from country to country

  • Hi, can I install windows XP with bootcamp on my iMac which is now on Maverick? Please help.

Hello all, can I install windows XP with bootcamp on my iMac which is now on Maverick? Please advise. Thank you.

Install 7. Don't bother with applying drivers and such, just reboot again from DVD and install again, it will see the existing system and this time activation will be possible.
Vista is mess, takes longer etc. Hope you have SP1 version of 7. And for Vista, only SP2+ are even supported now, by MS.

You can't. Only Windows 7 is supported in that configuration.

can i install windows 7 with bootcamp on imac with flash storage

Yes, you can. The type of storage on which you install is not relevant, as long as it is connected to an 'internal' storage control. Windows licensing restricts its installation on external/portable disks. Windows-to-go is the only legal means to do that.

  • HT5639 can i install windows xp with bootcamp

can i install windows xp with bootcamp? Which version bootcamp should I go for?

Depending on which Mac mini you have and your OS X version, you can install Windows XP or not in Boot Camp.
First, open  > About this Mac, and tell me what OS X version you have. If it's 10.7 or 10.8, you can't install Windows XP. Also, if you have a Mid 2011 or newer Mac mini, you can't install it too. In this case, you have to use Parallels, VMware Fusion or VirtualBox, and install Windows XP on a virtual machine.
If you have 10.5 or 10.6, you can install Windows XP in Boot Camp. Have a look at this website to see which Boot Camp version you need > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5634

  • Can I install Windows 7 with boot camp, but install all my PC games for it on an external hardrive?

I have a new Mac, but I want to install Windows 7 with boot camp on it. However, I would only really be using it for gaming.
On another post, someone said that you could not install boot camp entirely onto an external hardrive. As boot camp would only be for gaming, then could I install all my games (when I'm given the option to chose the file of where to install) onto an external drive which is correctly formatted? (what is the format too?) Also, which would allow for a faster gameplay, USB 3.0 or Thunderbolt? as fast gameplay is important

How to move steam to another drive:
Delete everything in the Steam folder except for the "steam.exe" and the "steamapps" folder
Move the steam folder over to the secondary drive you want it on
Open the "steam.exe" and it will reconfigure steam
Log in and BAM! All your games are recognized
Now, you can put what ever games you want on the SSD with Steam Mover (or junctions)
Create another folder on the C:\ drive and name it (C:\Users\Sean\Steam Games)
Run Steam Mover and have it move the game to that location and you are done!
Now go play the games you want!
How to have steam on the SSD while having the games on either the SSD or HDD:
Delete everything in the Steam folder except for the "steam.exe" and the "steamapps" folder
Have the "steam.exe" to a folder made on the C:\ drive (C:\Users\Sean\Steam)
Have the "steamapps" folder on the HDD you want to store your games (D:\User\Program Files\Steam\steamapps)
Make a junction from the "steamapps" folder to the SSD folder with the "steam.exe" in it
Open the "steam.exe" and it will reconfigure steam
Logged in and BAM! All your games are recognized and steam is on the SSD and the games on the other drive.
Now, you can put what ever games you want on the SSD with Steam Mover (or junctions)
Create another folder on the C:\ drive and name it (C:\Users\Sean\Steam Games)
Run Steam Mover and have it move the game to that location and you are done!

you will be fine and either are more than enough for even an SSD.
    NTFS of course.
Might look thru Google to see if anyone has managed to boot Windows from Thunderbolt, I think someone managed after install and then made a restore image and placed on Tb storage device.

  • Can I install Windows 7 with Bootcamp without a disk

I purchased Windows 7 Home Premium when I also purchased Parallels 7.  My main objective was to use the Windows partition for games that Mac doesn't have (Everquest II for example).  I had no trouble installing Windows with Parallels but the games I want to play work very poorly on the virtual machine.  Is there any way that I can junk Parallels and install Windows using Bootcamp?  Note:  Windows was downloaded from the Parallels web site.  I am using a MacBook Pro with Lion, early 2011, Intel 2.2 GHz i7 processor with 4 GB memory.  Another 4GB memory is in the mail but hasn't arrived yet.  All software is up to date.  Another question.  Would upgrading to Mountain Lion solve the problem?  Please, if there is anyone who knows the answer, give me instructions on how to ditch Parallels for Bootcamp.  Thanks.

You can install Windows in BootCamp (it will be a fresh installation) and you can remove the existing VM installation. Windows will run faster in Boot Camp than it will in a VM (parallels is a VM).
Please note that MacBook Pro's have 2 ram slots, and they will both be occupied with a 2G chip in a standard configuraton, there will be nowhere to install the other 4G that is in the mail. Return it and order 2 x 4G chips and remove the 2 x 2G chips already fitted.

  • Can't install Windows 7 with bootcamp assistant 5.0.2

I want to install Windows 7 (new valid licence, no upgrade) under Bootcamp on a new iMac. After pressing Install in the assistant, an  error message follows: Windows-installation disc not found. The installation disc is in the drive on my other Mac. I've made a connection with this Mac. I see the drive and the disc in the Finder on my new iMac, and can browse it with Finder. I've tried several times, but to no avail: this error keeps popping up.
    Who can help me out?

What year/model is this Mac? If you select the first and second option, can you create the USB with a Windows ISO and BC drivers?
Unless you have a valid BC partition on your disk, the last option will not work.
Please post the output from Terminal of the following commands.
    diskutil list
    diskutil cs list
    sudo fdisk /dev/disk0

  • HT3986 i can not install windows 7 with boot camp on my macbook pro 17-inch eairly 2011

I have been trying to install windows 7 on my MacBook pro 17inch 2011, once i get to the step "burn a copy to a cd or DVD" the system runs and burns the information to the DVD but when the next step appears after I create the partition the program dose not recognize the DVD I created. when i save the copy to an external hard drive that is MS-DOS (FAT) formatted the same thing happens, the system just does not recognize the saved file. I have updated my computer and tired to check if I have any updates for the boot camp were available my current version is 4.0.1 (429). if there is anyone out there who can help, please do.

1st, you read the full guide, and you understand that you need to supply your own copy of Windows 7 (Home Premium preferably 64-bit).

  • Can I install windows xp with lion OS or I should install windows 7?

I'm going to install Windows XP via bootcamp on my mac, but according to the guide I need  Windows 7.

Oh joy.  I just deleted my old bootcamp partition to re-create it and it wont do it.
I've been running Xp on a BC  partition for a few years on my 28"iMac  and it ran fine til recently.
I re-installed windows but was a bit flaky and I tried to restore an old copy that made it unbootable.
But now I am unable to re-create a bootcamp partition bevause I have updated to Lion.
Really wish I hadn't.   Seems sluggish, full screen is broken and now this.
So windows will have to wait until I can afford Windows7 just for a game, a simulator and a few apps
    for some RC Heli electrics.
Is there no way to get bootcamp to JUST create the partition?  I know XP works on his machine!!

  • Can't install Windows 7 with Boot Camp...

When i want to install Windows 7 and I proceed the first steps, after creating a partition for Windows an error occurs that says Boot Camp Assist quit unexpedtedly, Does anyone have any idea for fixing this problem?
I've heard I should reinstall the Mountain Lion but I don't really want to do so because of my datas and some other reasens...
    Thanks

When bootcamp start, between the choises is to create a bootable usb disk. So you need to choose this and put your windows 7 cdrom inside and an empty usb flash disk. Then the program will take the Win7 file from the copy you have and will create a new copy in you usb disk. Then it will use the new copy for the installation and normally no error will appear.

  • How can I install windows 7 using boot camp, if the partition will not format correctly?

    Hi All,
I'm new to this forum and have had a chance to look around a little bit, but haven't really found an answer to the problem that I'm having.
I have an imac and I'm attempting to use boot camp.  I have used it in the past, with prior versions of mac os x, but this is the first time that I have tried it with 10.6.8.  The first thing I found out is that I can't use Windows XP, even with service pack 2 installed, because it doesn't find the "boot camp" partition.  So, I recently obtained a full retail copy of Windows 7 and have been trying to install it.  I have no problem with the boot camp assistant creating the new partition, 200 GB.  However, when I insert the Windows 7 DVD and the computer restarts in the Win 7 install screen it tells me that I cannot install Windows on the selected partition (which I expected to see.)  So I choose "format" the further format the partition.  It doesn't ask me how I would like to partition this, but just seems to start.  All seems to go fine until it finishes and i see the same message of "Windows cannot be installed in the selected partition."  I can click on the format tab endlessly but it still doesn't seem to work.  Does anyone have any ideas?  I've called Apple and their technicians keep telling me that I need to reinstall the Mac OS again, which I've tried.  It doesn't seem to help either.
Thanks in advance for your help,
    DTK

Yes, I choose "Format" under the advanced options screen.  It seems like it formats, but then I get the same message of "Windows cannot be installed to this disk.  The selected disk is of the GPT partition style."  I can continue to click "format" but i keep getting the same error.
There is the answer, right in front of us ....
Delete the bootcamp partition and start again the correct partition type is GUID but BootCamp should take care of that automatically so try again.
