Can I just delete the "month year Photo Stream" events?

Unfortunately, I had tried out Photostream a little while ago.
It wreaked pretty much havok, as far as I can remember, so now I have only these settings in iPhoto '11 (9.2.3):
"Enable Photo Stream" is on, "Automatic Import" is off, and "Automatic Upload" is on.
This works fairly well for me.
HOWEVER, I have these "events" in the Events view in iPhoto called "Month Year Photo Stream";
they induce a lot of "clutter" in my Events view.
So my question is: how can I get rid of these "events"?
(I did google a lot, to no avail.)
Thanks a lot in advance.
Regards,
Gabriel.

Move the photos from them to other Events and they will disappear.

  • I keep getting an error stating that my disk is full in syslog. The file is empty and I want to stop it from logging data. Can I just delete the file?

Can I just delete the syslog file?

    Hello,
Yes, you can delete the file. A new file in Syslog directory is started each time that LabVIEW and the Tag Engine is started. You can either manually delete old files or write a simple VI to automatically delete files that are older than a certain number of days.
As an alternative, you can save these files into another folder, just to free up syslog directory space, and still have these history files for later use.

  • When I have my iTunes library on an external drive, but I forget to connect my external drive before opening iTunes, so then iTunes creates a library taking up room on my MacBook Air, can I just delete the iTunes library folder on my MacBook Air?

So I have a MacBook Air, but it doesn't have a lot of storage inside of it. So I set iTunes to sort all media files (it copies things as I add them and puts them in the iTunes folder) and I set the iTunes folder to my external ntfs drive. This has been working fine, but I find that sometimes iTunes starts adding stuff to the folder on the Air itself. I don't know if this is me adding files to iTunes when the external wasn't connected, or what, but is it OK to just keep deleting that library on the Air? Otherwise it keeps building up multiple GBs. Or will just deleting it do something bad with my lecture videos and music when I sync an iOS device? I'm really worried about doing something wrong with my large collection and have iTunes delete it or not sync with my iOS device and I won't be able to figure out how to set everything up again.
Also, should I format my drive to HFS+ rather than ntfs? The ntfs hasn't seem to be causing any problems, but I've always wanted to know. I keep everything on my external and sometimes it needs to interact with friends computers or school computers.

I don't know if this is me adding files to iTunes when the external wasn't connected
    it is.
is it OK to just keep deleting that library on the Air?
    i wouldn't - at least not until i
    mount the external
point iTunes media folder location back to the external via preferences > advanced
consolidate my library via file > library > organize library
The ntfs hasn't seem to be causing any problems, but I've always wanted to know.
in order for your Mac to write to NTFS drives, it needs some help by installing e.g. the NTFS 3G driver. apparently that or something similar is installed on your Mac already. preferably, it would be formatted for Mac but then windows machines would need to have e.g. MacDrive installed to recognize the drive.

I have duplicate contacts on my iPhone, but there are not duplicates in Outlook on my PC or in iCloud.  Can I just remove my iCloud on my account and recreate it so that the contacts refresh?

Be sure that you don't have syncing turned on in iTunes, otherwise you'll get data from both iCloud and the iTunes connection.

  • Two app store accounts - can I just delete the other one?

I accidentally have two accounts. How to get rid of the other one - do I need the history data? Is it just purchase data?

    Content and Apple IDs -
Content is forever tied to the Apple ID that bought it. Apple does not transfer content from one Apple ID to another. Apple does not merge Apple IDs. You will never be able to access your content bought with one Apple ID with a new Apple ID. If you have no content important to you from one of the Apple IDs, just abandon it. You can't delete an account, just stop using it.

  • IPhoto 8.1.2, OS10.6.8, library huge - can I just delete it?

OK - tried searching for this but can't find a specific answer.
My 2009 MacBook Pro has Mountain Lion 10.6.8 running it, with iPhoto 8.1.2 installed.
I am trying to clean up my MacBook in preparation for installing Mavericks 10.8. But I barely have room left for the Mavericks download of 5GB.
Am researching how to remove apps in this forum and on the web to regain space, but my biggest issue for HDD space is the iPhoto library (I used 'Disk Inventory X' to find the biggest hogs, it was recommended elsewhere in the Apple discussions section).
Anyway, the library is just *awfully* huge. Like a quarter to third of the 500GB drive! Price I pay for having two little kids that I over-document, I guess.
I have copied the "originals" and "modified" folders from within the library to an external drive, so I can now safely erase the copies on the MacBook without data loss.
So, here's what I need to know:
    1) Can I just delete the entire library? I know it will make iPhoto mad, but won't iPhoto just automatically rebuild it's needed file structure on a reboot and relaunch?, Since it won't find any images to load it would just create an empty library? Don't quite know how 'smart' iPhoto would be if it's library got removed...
    2) If that won't work, what will? The thing's just too big to stay on the laptop - gotta go.
and last but not too critical 3) If anyone knows of a good mid-level summary of how iPhoto does it's thing regarding the library files setup it has, please post a link - I'd like to understand it, but the info I find is scattered and most often either too basic or *way* to deep.
    Thanks, all.
    Hoping for a reply....

Make a current backup of your mac, before you start such a massive delete. You will not want to risk the photos of your kids.
Then copy your complete iPhoto Library to the external drive, not just the originals and modified folder. Otherwise you will no longer have the references to the albums, books, your descriptions, keywords, you will have lost all work you invested into your photos.
Then launch iPhoto with the options-key ⌥ held down and select to open the iPhoto library on the external drive. Give it a test run, to see, if it is working.
Only if this succeeds, delete the library from your internal drive.
    3) I'll look for a tutorial, but right now I don't know of any. But actually, you do not really need to know, how iPhoto organizes the library. Only iPhoto need to be able to find files inside. For the users are many different ways provided, to access the photos inside. Just keep the library intact as an entity. To access the photos, see Terence Devlin's User Tips:                   How to Access Files in iPhoto
This most recent user Tip explains how iPhoto stores the photos and how to backup the Library and to keep it safe:                   iPhoto and File Management.

  • If I have multiple installations of adobe software, can I just delete earlier version?

I purchased and installed cs6 production premium, because I needed video editing.  I had previously purchased and installed cs5.5 design premium for photo and web editing.  Now I have multiple copies of certain adobe applications in my application folder (ex. Bridge, Extension Manager, Flash, Illustrator, Media Encoder, Photoshop).  Can I just delete the previous version?  Will I lose any custom settings (like in Photoshop)?  Do they both access the same files / file structure?  Is there any advantage / disadvantage to keeping both? Etc, Etc...
    My OS is OSX 10.7.4.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Do they both access the same files / file structure?
No. Different versions operate independently and therefore use independent configuration data etc.
Is there any advantage / disadvantage to keeping both?
Compatibility! Third party plug-ins may not yet be updated for CS6 (if you use any). That aside, CS6 is full of bugs. You can't evade the mess that is After Effects, prelude etc. since your CS6 versiosn are your only ones, but you might actualyl be glad to have CS5.5 around for Photoshop, Illustrator, AME etc. if something doesn't work in CS6... Feel free to rid yourself of CS5.5, if you think none of that is relevant.

  • What's the difference between "photo stream", 'camera roll' and 'photos' ?

I can't download the new update because I don't have enough storage. I bought more storage but my camera roll is 6.2 GB. Photo stream is 323 MB. Can someone please explain the difference between photo stream, camera roll, and photos. Thanks.

    Photo Stream is a feature of iCloud;
    http://www.apple.com/icloud/features/photo-stream.html
The Camera Roll is an album on the iPad with any photos that you transfer from a camera or memory card using the Camera Connection Kit to the iPad or any screen shots that you take with the iPad or any photos that you take with the cameras on an iPad 2, as opposed to any albums that you have synced to the iPad from your computer using the iTunes app. The Camera Roll comes and goes as needed. If you have no photos that would go into the Camera Rol, it disappears, and returns when it is needed.
    iPhoto is an Apple photo app for the Mac computer. It is part of the iLife suite of Mac apps;

To add to Niel's comment bear in mind that if you have a backup copy on an external HD and later delete the orignals on your Mac HD you will then only have one copy - so no backup.
If the pictures are precious you should have at least two copies, and ideally another copy kept off site,

iphoto has just deleted the contents of the last album i uploaded by unexpectedly closing whilst viewing photos. It is also refusing to recognise "flagged" photos. any ideas?

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • I am attempting to have cells use data from a selective month from the year before so that I can show actual from the prio. years each month.

I am attempting to have cells use data from a selective month from the year before so that I can show actual from the prio. year each month. I need to create a spreedsheet using the the Acutlas from the year-to-date and from last year-to-date, but need to report each month.

    Hi Tony,
Answering your question would be easier given a screen shot of the source table and one of what you want the summary table to look like.
Is the data you want for each month in a single cell o the source table, or does the summary table need to collect February's data (for example) from several cells and do some math with those numbers before presenting them on the summary table?
    Regards,
    Barry
