Can I keep old apps if I upgrade OSX to Mavericks?

Hello all,
I have been very satisfied with my MBA mid 2013 build, and all the apps. I really use Pages '09 & Numbers '09 (most of the features), so much that I've switched everything from MS Word and Excel. But, I do NOT want to upgrade to Pages 5.1 or Numbers 3.1. It seems they are dumbed down versions, good for iPhone use, and many users are very unhappy. I learned that the features I use the most are gone.
Question: Can I upgrade the OS X to Mavericks, but keep the old Pages & Numbers apps? IOW, not upgrade them, only the OSX?

Since the new desktop Macs force Mavericks on you, have you considered an Apple-refurbished iMac old enough to have come with Mountain Lion? That'd come with a new warranty to which you could add AppleCare.
I'd suggested questioning a Mavericks upgrade because I just went through that decision myself, coming from Lion and experimenting with both ML and Mavericks, and there were some quirks in Mavericks that just didn't seem worth dealing with. Went with ML and while that meant dealing with the Disk Utility formatting bug in both ML and Mavericks, at least Lion and ML still have a family resemblance.

You need to set up a separate iCloud account for each person that does not want to share their iCloud data. If you share an iCloud account with someone, any data you both sync with the shared account is merged, and you end up with each other's data on your device(s). If, for example, you owned two devices and someone else in the family also owned two devices, you would both want your own iCloud accounts, and you would each set up your personal iCloud account on the two devices you own. In other words, you want a separate iCloud account for each person to be used on the devices they own. Each iCloud account has to have a separate Apple ID. The ID does not need to be the same as the ID used for iTunes. Yes, I was referring to the iTunes ID not needing to be the same as the ID used for iCloud. In order to set up an Apple ID your children will need to have a valid email address that can be verified by Apple. Apple requires this so they have a way of contacting the owner if there is a problem with the account, such as when you may need to reset the password on the account. When you set up the ID, Apple will send a verification email to this email account and you will need to click on the verificating link in the email to complete the process. If they don't currently have an email account you can just set one up with gmail or another free email hosting service. They don't have to use the account but you will need it to set up the ID.

As already provided, if you don't have such in your iTunes library, on your computer, then there is no way to put it back on your phone. Apps are DRM protected, so even if you found a copy somewhere, you wouldn't be able to use it.

There is a chance the spreadsheets were made with a Numbers or AppleWorks version so old that it's not compatible anymore with the latest Numbers version (yes this can happen)

Ensure that you computer is authorized for all Apple IDs used to purchase the apps i(n iTunes Store>Authorize This Computer), then connect your phone to your computer, open iTunes and go to File>Devices>Transfer Purchases.

Can't keep old data plan?

My daughters droid "smart" phone died so we put her number on an older "dumb" phone we had from previous upgrades until she can afford to buy a new smartphone. While talking to customer service I was told that she can't keep her old unlimited data plan when she gets her new phone that she has to switch to 2G plan. I don't understand why this is since had her phone not died she would still have the unlimited plan. Why?

You are able to change back the unlimited data plan from a non-Smartphone within 14 days of removing it. Once the 14 days have passed, there is no way to go back to the unlimited data and you will have to choose from our current pricing. Therefore, if your daughter will be replacing her Smartphone within 14 days, she will be able to have the unlimited data plan.

Can i get old apps

Apparently somewher along the line I updated and app in the itunes store. I had the app on my ipod touch 4.2.1 and I recently obtained iphone with the same operating system 4.2.1. The app on the ipod works fine but I can not get the app to install on the iphone. itunes keeps giving me the message that ios 5 is required to use this (udated) app. Is there some way to get the old app back and put it on the iphone? I tried time machine to replace the old app in itunes and get info in iturns says it is the old app. Anyone have any suggestions?

I was under the impression they were separate apps. When you bought your iPad Air, you got the iOS versions, but if you want the MacOS versions, you will need to purchase them.
They were free when you purchased a new iOS/MacOS product, but the free software would most likely coincide with that.

How can I keep my apps (several unauthorized) on my ipod and computer synced?

Most of my apps were bought by an account I do not have access to anymore. I have a new Macbook. My old PC where I used to sync my iPod was authorized by this account. All these apps are in that PC and on my iPod. Obviously I cannot authorize my Macbook because as I have said, I cannot access the account anymore. It's a long story but basically, I can't.
Now, I have transferred all apps that I purchased by an account of mine (different one) that has athorized my new Macbook. Transferred from my old PC to new Macbook (actually just the apps I decided I still wanted). By the way, I haven't synced the apps yet on my new Macbook. So this is how it all looks like: The apps that I need (purchased by my active account and the other one) are all on my iPod; All the apps on my new Macbook (purchased by active account) are on my iPod; The "unauthorized" apps are all on my iPod and my old PC.
When I try to sync the Macbook and my iPod, I cannot because it tells me I will lose these hundreds of apps (I'm not sure if it's because tey are unauthorized and/or the ones on my Macbook are supposed to replace the ones in my iPod). My goal here is to just allow both devices to sync smoothly everytime without losing any data. It can be the unauthorized apps stay in the iPod but it can still sync with the Macbook. Although if you have a way the unauthorized apps to be transfrred to my Macbook then all the better.
So how can I attain that?

So what I've done was delete all existing apps in my new Macbook and transferred all apps from my old PC to the new one. It was successful...until I try to sync it. This message comes up:
This computer is no longer authorized for apps that are installed on the iPod “Lauren”. Would you like to authorize this computer for items purchased from the iTunes Store?
If you do not authorize this computer, 137 apps, including “...™”, and their data will be deleted from this iPod.
So I have all apps on my iPod and my Macbook. Only problem is the Macbook cannot be authorized so whenever I try to sync them, it "threatens" to delete all "unauthorized" apps from my iPod.
Oh, and if I continue, I'm guessing those apps and their would really be gone from my iPod, but will they stay on my Macbook and sync the next time I try to sync them? Though if that works I still bet I will lose all data from my apps...

I see. Apple's documentation on what is included in the iCloud backup doesn't explicitly say that it contains voicemails, but that doesn't mean it does not. You would just have to try restoring the backup to find out.
To restore to your iCoud backup you have to start by erasing the phone. Go to Settings>General>Reset and tap Erase All Content and Settings. Then go through the setup screens on the phone and when given the option, choose Restore from iCloud backup. You will then sign into your iCloud account, accept the terms and conditions, then choose the backup you wish to restore from. To see an older backup, you may need to tap "Show older backups" (see image below). Be sure your phone is connected to wifi and your charger as this may take some time to finish.
If this does not recover your voicemails, you can check to see if you have an older iTunes backup that may contain them. Available backups are shown in iTunes Preferences>Devices on the Backups list.
If all else fails, you could try contacting your carrier. Voicemail is a carrier feature and they may have an archive you could access.

How can I keep certain apps from starting at login?

I have Break Reminder installed. It isn't compatible with certain accessibility tools. It isn't something that I want to start every time I use the computer. But it does start every time I use the computer. I don't tell the computer to restart apps at start up. I don't list the apps in the Login Items list. It just starts itself. How can I keep it from starting itself?

go to system preferences / Users Groups / Login items
(make sure your lock at bottom left side of window is unlocked) if it isn't you will be asked to insert your user password if you don't have one just hit enter (unlock)
from there you get to choose your startup applications simply add/remove with +/- under the windows
once you made changes don't forget to lock the lock to prevent changes and you should be set

Can't delete old apps from iTunes. 'Delete' greyed out

I would like to delete a number of old apps from my iTunes. However, when I go to the 'Apps' tab and highlight the app it doesn't delete. Also, when I go into 'Edit', the 'Delete' button is greyed out. I have tried logging out of my iTunes account and logging back in, switching the computer on and off and also by trying with both plugging in both my iPhone and iPad. Nothing works! I would much appreciate any ideas.
