Can i load os x lion to my ipad2

is it possible to use os x lion on my ipad 2

You don't need 10.6.8 to have Lion. You need any Snow Leopard with App Store access to download Lion and restore the DMG file contained by the installer to a USB Flash or DVD. You can easily boot that image on any Mac and upgrade your Leopard or Snow Leopard. I imagine that upgrading Tiger also works.

  • Can I load xp on lion ?

I just bought my first mac.  Mac people always talk about how the mac is great for graphics but all my programs for video, audio and photo editing are for a pc.
Seems to me loading a windows os just defeats the purpose of getting a mac but i spent alot of money on all these programs.  I was running xp,  and microsoft and sony will not give me a clean copy of the disk.  On top of that I just heard that lion will not take xp and that I need to buy windows 7.  Is this true?
I dont even know if all my programs will work with 7.  I am also worried about how these programs will look on the smaller screen and do I have enough processor speed.
Someone please tell me why I need to keep this mac....

If all of your programs are PC-friendly then didn't you just get another PC? Did you not realize that native PC applications could not be run in OS X without some form of virtualization or using Boot Camp? That being said, you didn't tell us what the programs were, so it's difficult to advise on the machine's capabilities without knowing the requirements of the products in question.
As Fortuny stated, the newer OS requires Windows 7. Which honestly, considering the last new build of the OS was in April of 2008 (over 3 years ago) it's not terribly unreasonable to expect that a company like Apple would no longer continue to cater their products to support it.
Truthfully, and I recommend this pretty frequently, sometimes a Mac (and OS X) just isn't for you. Especially for people that require a robust Windows environment. Yes, Boot Camp will work and it works great. But if you don't have all the necessary pieces in place to make your new Mac as PC friendly as a new PC would be, then sometimes you just have to delay the purchase or avoid it altogether.

  • Can I load a custom font onto my iPad2?

Is it possible to load a custom font (my handwriting, for instance) onto my iPad2? If so, how? Thanks!

AFAIK it is still not possible to add a font to the iPad. I have not read that the feature was added to iOS 5 so I think it's still not possible.
You can read this short discussion. I could not get the link to work that is referenced in the one post, but you can check it out and see if it works for you.

First, you cannot do this if you have a Boot Camp partition.
    Second: Create a new partition.
    1. Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
After the main menu appears select Disk Utility and click on the Continue button. Select the hard drive's main entry then click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    2. You should see the graphical sizing window showing the existing partitions. A portion may appear as a blue rectangle representing the used space on a partition.
    3. In the lower right corner of the sizing rectangle for each partition is a resizing gadget. Select it with the mouse and move the bottom of the rectangle upwards until you have reduced the existing partition enough to create the desired new volume's size. The space below the resized partition will appear gray. Click on the Apply button and wait until the process has completed.  (Note: You can only make a partition smaller in order to create new free space.)
    4. Click on the [+] button below the sizing window to add a new partition in the gray space you freed up. Give the new volume a name, if you wish, then click on the Apply button. Wait until the process has completed.
You should now have a new volume on the drive.
It would be wise to have a backup of your current system as resizing is not necessarily free of risk for data loss.  Your drive must have sufficient contiguous free space for this process to work.
    Third: Install Snow Leopard.
Boot from your Snow Leopard DVD. Follow instructions for installation being sure that before you actually install Snow Leopard you have selected the new partition as your target destination.
Booting From An OS X Installer Disc
      1. Insert OS X Installer Disc into the optical drive.
      2. Restart the computer.
      3. Immediately after the chime press and hold down the "C" key.
      4. Release the key when the spinning gear below the dark gray Apple logo
          appears.
      5. Wait for installer to finish loading.

Start by checking if you can run Snow Leopard:
Requirements for OS X 10.6 'Snow Leopard'
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
OS 10.6 Snow Leopard is once again available for $19.99 from the Apple Store:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
    and in the UK:
    http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
but nobody knows for how long it will be available.
When you have installed it, run Software Update to download and install the latest updates for Snow Leopard.
To use iCloud you have to upgrade at least to Lion, but some functions are only available in Mountain Lion:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4759
You can also purchase the code to use to download Lion (Lion requires an Intel-based Mac with a Core 2 Duo, i3, i5, i7 or Xeon processor and 2GB of RAM, running the latest version of Snow Leopard), or you can purchase Mountain Lion from the App Store - if you can run that:

  • If I purchase a brand new I-mac today do I have to run OS Lion or can I load Snow leopard?

If I purchase a brand new I-mac today do I have to run OS Lion or can I load Snow leopard?

Just faced that question, and the answer should be that you can run SL on the latest iMac.
(Our scenario:  Bought 3 iMacs in August.  Was surprised -- and relieved! -- to see that they arrived with SL installed on them, and grey system restore disks.  One of the machines was DOA.  Futzed around with it for 6 weeks trying to get it to work, decided it was dead, drove it 4 hours to the nearest Apple Store.  They gave us a new iMac, which when we got it back, turned out to have Lion on it.  Popped in one of the three grey restore disks that had come in August, installed SL, it works without any problems.)

Hi, I just tried to open Word and this message appeared - 'You can't open the application Microsoft Word because PowerPC applications are no longer supported.' I just recently loaded OS X Lion does this mean my software for MS Office is now out of date?  Do I have to purchase a new package? Any help appreciated.

    Hello:
Office 2004 was written for the PowerPC chip only.  There is no emulation in OS X 10.7.
I encountered the same issue sometime ago when I updated to OS X 10.7.
There is one option that I might mention (other than buy Office 2011).  I switched to Apple's iWork.  Pages (the word processing package) is completely compatible with Word.  If you export Pages documents, you can export them in formats compatible with Microsoft programs.  iWork also contains programs that are compatible with Office presentation and spreadsheet packages.
The reason I mention this is that the cost is about 1/2 of the cost of Office.

    BookCamp will not help
PowerPC is the processor that Apple used prior to switching to Intel. It is a very old version of Apple for which support has been dropped.
It is not Windows which is what BootCamp will allow you to install.

  • All our fonts on isilon server show as corrupted in mountain lion, can't load.

Our font library has thousands of fonts, they all show up as corrupt when viewed in mountain lion.
In snow leopard they are fine.  Can't load into font manager.
Is this a network protocol issue or what?

Even when copying the fonts to the mac desktop, and yes they are type 1 ps fonts, they are corrupt.
Then I would bet that's what's happening. The new Macs are not seeing the stored resource forks on the server. If you check the size of the files either on the server from those Macs, or the ones you attempt to copy over, they're most likely zero.

  • HT4854 How can I load Mountain Lion to multiple Macs

How can I load Mountain Lion to multiple Macs without downloading the huge 4Gb file to each machine?

I've never done that, but I don't see why it wouldn't. There is no verification or authentication keys in the installer.
If you need 20+ licenses*, then you might take a look at the volume licensing: http://www.apple.com/mac/volume-licensing/
It describes the same process I described.
    * I think 20 is the minimum. Not sure, though.

  • HOW DO I LOAD MAC OS LION ONTO AN OLDER iMAC (2010) WITHOUT THE ADMIN PASSWORD.

I purchased MAC OS LION (version 1.0.4) (multi user) from APPLE about 4 months ago.  The OS  LION came on a thumb drive that is used to load it on multiple computers instead of having to down loading it off the APPLE website. I have only loaded one version of LION onto one computer so far.
I want to load the LION  on a used iMAC(about 2-years old) I recently purchased but can't because I don't have the previous owners ADMIN password.
I don't have the original disc that came with the iMAC either. The OS currently on the iMAC is Snow Leopard 10.6.8
I do not care about any data that the previous owner had on the hard drive which isn't much so I would be glad to install MAC OS LION from scratch and erase/reformat the hard drive. Doing this I presume I can then create my own Admin password .
I believe there is a procedure where you hold down certain keys at startup which will allow you to clear the HD and install the new OS but I am unaware of the key sequence. Nor am I sure if this will work with the THUMBRIVEn or if you need an actual disc.
If anyone can give me direction on how I can load the OS LION from the thumb drive when I start the computer up so I can reformat/erase the HD I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks for any help you can give me

If the password you are talking about is the EFI boot password the only way to bypass and or remove it is to take the system to Apple.
If it is a User Log On password then just boot the computer from that thumb drive open Disk Utility and Re-Partition the internal drive as ONE partition. then exit out of DU and select Reinstall Mac OS X.
Once that is done it will boot to a fresh clean install of Lion ready to be setup with new user account and password.

  • I can't load Snow Leopard on an empty partition

In February I bought a new Mac Book Pro that came loaded with OS X Lion.  I want to run Final Cut Pro on it.  I bought FCP on ebay but can't load it because it is a PowerPC app and Lion won't load it.
I added a partition to my hard drive to load Snow Leopard, bought SL online and am trying to install SL.
If I try to run the install app from within Lion I get this message:  "You can't use this version of the application install Mac OX X.app with this version of Mac OS X."  Then in small print this:  "You have Install Mac OS X.app 23.1"
If I try to boot from the SL Install DVD I get this message:  "You need to restart your computer.  Hold down the Power button until it turns off, then press the Power button again."  I do this and it always comes back to this same message.
I tried booting to the Recovery HD but can't get that to allow anything either.
Is there a way to get this running?  Or have I wasted a lot of money?
    Thanks for any help!
    // -- Phil

If you purchased the current model of MacBook Pro, then to the best of my knowledge it cannot boot from Snow Leopard. You would have to run Snow Leopard as a virtual OS under one of the virtualization solutions (Parallals Desktop, VMWare Fusion, or VirtualBox). There's been debate about whether the desktop version of Snow Leopard is licensed for such use, but the developers of the solutions believe that it does not and hence allow installation of Snow Leopard Server, which is licensed for virtualization, only.

  • Can't load photo dvd

Hi--having trouble with the DVDs of my daughter's wedding. I can't get my new MacBook Pro to recognize the DVD as having any content. When I load one, it spins for a few minutes and then just comes back out. I can still load on my old MacBook Pro (running Snow Leopard) and my old PC. I'm wondering in there's something wrong with my disk drive or if there's something about Mountain Lion that won't read the disk. They are just jpgs. There's no software on the DVDs--just the photo files. My DVD drive works fine playing DVD movies.
    Thanks!

Sounds like the optical drive. Have you tried other DVD's?
