Can I lock an ipod??

My sister let her husband take my nephews ipod that I bought him. They will not give it back and he says that his step dad even takes it to work. I changed his apple ID email and his password so they wont be able to add anything new to the ipod without that info.. right? Also, they have had it for a while and will not let me have it back so I never got to update his ipod so it doesnt have they ios updates on it so icloud isnt on it.. Is there anyway that I can lock his ipod??
Its a very sad situation I couldnt imagine taking something from a child. Can they reset the ipod in anyway and make their own accounts?

If you did not enable the remote lock/find my iPod then no sorry.

This is sort of hard to explain but without access to his Apple ID they don't own the content purchased using that Apple ID - they can continue to use it but won't be able to update it or back it up to iCloud.
Unfortunately they will be able to create their own Apple ID and install content using this. What's worse is they can do it alongside keeping the old content (I've seen people do this) but if the iPod ever breaks down they will probably lose this old content.

  • 2 ipods, 1 machine, 2 user accounts.  Can I LOCK each ipod to a user?

I've got an iPod classic, my GF has the nano. We both have separate user accounts on the same machine. The problem I'm running into is sometimes she has itunes open in her account in the background. I log into my account and plug in my ipod and it mounts to her account and my itunes tell me another user account is using my ipod. I can't sync until I open up her account and close itunes, and then reconnect the ipod. Sometime it happens the other way, she can't access her ipod if my itunes is open in the background because it opens up in my account. Is there a way to lock each ipod to each use so this wont happen? It's a pain to have to open the other account to shut itunes down.

I have the same problem except 3 nanos and 3 user accounts. It's a real pain because I never know witch account to look in.

  • Can I Lock an Ipod So That Only One Computer Can Use It?

So I just bought my grandma an ipod and plan on putting all of her music and such on it for her. What I want to do is make it so that only my computer can access the files and if another computer tried to use the ipod it would lock, I don't want to use the screen lock either. Is there any way to do this through iTunes or not? Thanks alot.

    Oh, I'm so sorry.
    Dear jmentzer262,
Your brilliant plan cannot be put into action I'm afraid. Apple have not seen fit to include this feature. I'm so sorry that we cannot help you implement this.
There is no doubt that we here are not worthy, and I for one will try my utmost to do better in answering any of your questions in the future.
I understand that when answering a question it is not sufficient to say "it can't be done", as I realise that when dealing with someone is so sensitive we must temper our replies accordingly.
Please accept my humble apologies for my "attitude" and you can rest assured that I have punished myself severely for this unacceptable lapse of judgement. Can you ever find it in your heart to forgive me?

  • How can I lock the screen on ipod nano 7th gen?

How can I lock the ipod nano 7th gen? Just pressing the top button doesnt cut it as it still starts to play music or pauses or change volume with the slightest knock im in 2 minds to take it back if you cant lock it as ive only had it 4 days and already found this a huge problem!

Hi! I really couldn't find no way to lock the screen, except pressing the top button (what only cancel any touch you do in the screen).
That's an old discussion about (failure vs feature), but I wonder about if you are running, you can let the screen locked and still change or pause the song by pressing the buttons on the side of the iPod)
    hope I could help you

  • HT1212 my ipod screen is cracked and i can't sync my ipod on to itunes becauseit it is locked with a password and i can't enter the password because the heat sensor is messed up and i don't want t restore it and lose everything so how can i get passed tha

My ipod screen is cracked and i can't sync my ipod to itunes because it is locked with a password and i can't enter the password because the heat sensor is messed up on the ipod becasue of the screen and i don't want to restore it and lose everything. What can i do?!

All you can do is to restore and thus erase the iPod unless you can get a data recovery company to preserve the data.
Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

  • How can you reset an ipod if the lock button is broken?

how can i reset my ipod if the lock button is broken?

To reset the iPod without the hardware buttons,
    - Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings. All your wifi and bluetooth preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected. You will have to rejoin wifi networks and repair BT devices
If you mean place in recovery mode then use on of these

  • "Can't Lock IPOD" message

Okay. Here's the story: After downloading latest itunes and IPOD update, my IPOD slipped into DATA mode and is completely locked up. I tried to reset the IPOD, but it cycles through and ultimately shows a folder and exclamation point on the screen.
I then tried to restore the IPOD. That is when i got a message stating that the IPOD could not be restored because it "Can't Lock Ipod."
Any suggestions? IPOD is not recognized by computer as hard drive and does not show up in itunes.

You would have to ask the Police how they can find your iPod, if it's even possible.  Your warranty with Apple covers defects in materials and workmanship, not loss.

This device is not eligible for the requested build: Also sometimes displayed as an "error 3194." If you receive this alert, update to the latest version of iTunes. Third-party security software or router security settings can also cause this issue. To resolve this, follow Troubleshooting security software issues.
Downgrading to a previous version of iOS is not supported. If you have installed software to perform unauthorized modifications to your iOS device, that software may have redirected connections to the update server (gs.apple.com) within the Hosts file. First you must uninstall the unauthorized modification software from the computer, then edit out the "gs.apple.com" redirect from the hosts file, and then restart the computer for the host file changes to take affect.  For steps to edit the Hosts file and allow iTunes to communicate with the update server, see iTunes: Troubleshooting iTunes Store on your computer, iPhone, iPad, or iPod—follow steps under the headingBlocked by configuration (Mac OS X / Windows) > Rebuild network information > The hosts file may also be blocking the iTunes Store. If you do not uninstall the unauthorized modification software prior to editing the hosts file, that software may automatically modify the hosts file again on restart. Also, using an older or modified .ipsw file can cause this issue. Try moving the current .ipsw file, or try restoring in a new user to ensure that iTunes downloads a new .ipsw.
Error 3194: Resolve error 3194 by updating to the latest version of iTunes. "This device is not eligible for the requested build" in the updater logs confirms this is the root of the issue. For more Error 3194 steps see: This device is not eligible for the requested build above.

  • How can I unlock an IPod with a locked screen that says Will open in 21,889,406 minutes?

How can I unlock an IPod with a locked screen that says Will open in 21,889,406 minutes? It was in our companies lost and found a couple years ago. Was never claimed. If I could unlock it, I could possible find out whose it is/was or at least use it. Not sure what model or what operating system it has. Was lost in 2010 in the fall of that year.

  • Can I lock my 6th generation ipod nano whilst listening to it as it keeps switching off if i knock the sleep button

can I lock my 6th generation ipod nano whilst listening to it as it keeps switching off if i knock the sleep button?

Okay, I apologize, belay my last posting :/
This evening after a whole day of working fine (again), I had the same problem, but this time my idea couldn't fix it.  One point I'd like to make is to NOT listen to your ears when troubshooting your ipod.  When your ipod is turning off, try tuning into the radio.  Mine tells me that it isn't recognizing my earbuds and won't even turn on the radio.  I'm going to try to clean the connection out, but really?  This is freakin' new, Apple people!  Maybe its a way for the company to make you purchase new accessories for the ipod they replaced with the recall :/
