Can I lock iCloud in system preferences

I want to use the iCloud to track multiple Mac products that go out regularly as rental equipment. I have set up iCloud on all the Macs so currently I am tracking them but I want to be able to lock it within the system preferences so that you can't sign out. I'd like to know if it's possible so I don't have to use additional tracking software. Any ideas or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the Apple community.
Your profile states that you are using OS X 10.5.6, iCloud comes as part of the rate pertains system OS X 10.7.2 or better, if your profile is correct, that is why you cannot find iCloud in your system preferences.

I have installed the latest version of Apple but still can't see ICloud in System Preferences- how can I fix this?

Lion is required to see the iCloud Preference Pane: this is an upgrade, not an update, and has to be paid for. If you want to install Lion, go to the Mac App Store and purchase and download it there ($29.99).
First check that your Mac meets the requirements for Lion:
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of memory
    OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
    7GB of available space

  • Can't lock changes in System Preferences and Date & Time goes crazy

For some reason the items I lock in the System Preferences window become unlocked by itself. I have the password protect on, but it completey ignores it and unlocks the locks at a random time. This happens most frequently with my Time Machine prefs.
Also my Date & Time changes to whatever time it wants automatically. I have this password locked as well, but the computer seems to have a mind of its own.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.

Boot with your install disk, launch Disk Utility, select the boot volume, and repair it. Boot back into the boot volume and try again. If you get the same behavior, move the com.apple.systempreferences.plist file to the desktop, log out and back in, and try again. If still no go, try a safe boot and see if it work s properly.

  • Can't access iCloud in system preferences ... crashes computer!

With the latest iCloud update, I can not access the iCloud preferences within system preferences. When I try, I get a spinny ball and then a total crash of my computer, to the point where the mouse takes several minutes to move across the screen. I thought I'd give it time at one point, hoping the computer would need some time to process, but after 20 minutes it was still stalling... I tried several times after rebooting the computer, and still the same thing.
Perhaps this has something to do with my syncing my iPhone and iPad with the computer... I do have double entries in my iMac's ical, and I'm wondering if that has anything to do with the iCloud stalling? I do notice that whenever I open iCal on my iMac, it has a perpetual "Updating..." note at the top...
What's going on and when can we (I know I'm not the only one here complaining of these issues) expect an update to fix this?

    Hi,
    have the same problems,
no way to use Mail anymore
no way to access iCloud preferences
no way to access email accounts preferences
and sometimes even the keyboard is no longer working.
So for beeing a Mac user since 1984 Maverick this is the lousiest "Downgrade" I ever experienced. At least now I know why it is for free: it is worthless!
So now I only hope that after countless hours of troubleshooting, reinstalling Mavericks, etc. , Apple will have the decency to solve these problems fast. With billions of dollars hoarded, they seem unable to programm a working mail application?

  • I can't find icloud in system preferences?

I can not find icloud in preferences? Do I need to do something. I did go to LION

Your profile states that you are using OSX 10.6.8. What exactly do you mean when you say "I did go to lion". Do you have lion or not, OSX 10.7.2 or better is required for iCloud.

  • Can't find iCloud in system preferences-

when I try to update it says I have the latest software BUT it is only 10.6.8 and iCloud says it needs 10.7.2  Suggestions?

I would have thought the message you got was pretty obvious. You need to upgrade to Lion 10.7.2 to make use of iCloud.
Lion is a paid upgrade available from the App Store.

  • HT4901 iCloud app can't be launched from system preferences.

iCloud app can't be launched from system preferences and screens an error to be reported to Apple:
    Process:         System Preferences [408]
    Path:            /Applications/System Preferences.app/Contents/MacOS/System Preferences
    Identifier:      com.apple.systempreferences
    Version:         11.0 (11.0)

    Code Type:       X86-64 (Native)
    Parent Process:  launchd [134]
The rest of apps can be openned but not iCloud. I have tried to log in into iCloud from the web and my iPhone and it works fine.
Any help on how to solve this problem from the macbook?
    Thanks

Does it open in the guest user?  If it's not enabled, you can do it from the apple >> system preferences >> users and groups.  Open the lock, select the guest user account and check the box to allow logging into it.

  • Is there a way I can permanently disable the security lock thing in System Preferences?

Aside from logging and using the root account on a daily basis, is there a way to permanently be rid of the security lock thing in System Preferences?
Yosemite has a bug (?) where if an Admin account has its password set to blank (empty), you can't remove the security lock...
You can click it, it'll ask for Username and Password (Why?), and when you click on 'Unlock', it unlocks for a brief moment and instantly locks itself again...
This is beyond infuriating. Do advise.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.  However I'm quite aware that the sleep/wake button disables the screen.  Unfortunately, mea maxima culpa, I sometimes accidentally hit shuttle before I've pressed the sleep/wake button, often when I am trying to do more than one thing at once.  Sometimes I accidentally hit shuffle at other times too,eg when waking up the phone.
This is especially exasperating when listening to classical pieces with multiple movements.  I will look for an alternative music player for the iphone, as I don't think the default music application and I are a good match.
    Thanks again,

  • Can't log-in to iCloud in System Preferences using Apple ID

    Hi,
I've recently updated to iCloud and have now also recently got a new MacBook Pro Retina running Lion 10.7.4
I'm trying to log in to iCloud through System Preferences but when I enter my Apple iD password - it won't accept it - the process just hangs.
I can sign in to iCloud.com without any problem - I can also sign into iTunes and my Mac email without any problem either. I can log in using my Apple iD on my iPhone and iPad too with no problem.
I had already verified my me/mac.com email address with iCloud before this.
A possible related problem is that now the Mail program will not remember my mac.com email address settings (I have to re-enter all the details each time I open Mail - have swapped over to Thunderbird for now) and Safari won't remember any of my bookmarks when I quit the program.
I have also tried resetting my Apple iD password and this made no difference to logging into iCloud.
    Anybody else having similar problems?
    Thanks
    John

I do have the same problem, can't access to my iCloud account on my Mac, but have no problems accessing with my mobile devices and through internet.
I get a message error: "password or user name not recognized"
On the other hand, before this problem, iCalendar was working properly, but adressbook didn't sync.
Lets see if we get soon this problem solved!

  • I can't log into iCloud using system preferences using Apple Id

Hello comunity: I describe the problem as follows (sorry for my english, not a native speaker):
Background: Macbook air OS X 10.9 Mavericks (just updated), but changed my Apple ID just after that.
-When I try to log into Icloud through System Preferences, and write my Apple ID and password, it says "the login keychain is not found" and then it tells me that the server is down and can´t connect. (I have verified my Apple ID and password and can login through the website with no problem, and I have verified that the Icloud server is fine).
-It won´t let me go any further than that, It means I cant use Icloud in my Mac. I can access to Icloud online, but when online I don´t see my mac but I can see my Iphone and Ipad 2.
-I have read many (a lot really) about keychains and similar problems and cant find the solution.
    I would appreciate your help!
PD: Other information that might be related: When entering to First Aid Keychain, I provide my password and when I hit "repair" it will tell me "...library/keychains/login.keychain is not a valid keychain file and that repair stopped unexpectedly"

I think that  is likely why you're having the problems with signing in. My keychain has been added to over many years. It has email addresses from 1997. I don't know how to clean that up. It would be nice if Apple redesigned Keychain Access to be something that actually allowed you to envisage their network. That's what bothered me about iCloud Keychain. There are so many places to change settings, type a password, and think about what that setting means. Knowledgable people who can manage a network from the Terminal, good for you. I want to launch software that finds all servers, and paints a good connection green and trouble yellow, etc. Hover your mouse over a red drive, it tells you the password needs. I think this is good enough implementation, except it is difficult for people who've never had a cryptography class to get a good idea of what their network topography is. Tell me, can you log on to iCloud.com on Safari?
I'll hang around here to see if somebody else gives a suggestion. Sorry I can't do more.

Reset key chain DID NOT, work for me, and I renamed the backup it made back to the original. (Note to others: I may have had permissions or other issues due to the way I upgraded to Mountain Lion by creating a new user and moving things over manually.)
HERE IS HOW I FIXED IT: (I don't know what the ramifications are, so this will make you a backup too.)
I threw away my Library > Application Support > iCloud folder.
In the Finder, choose Go, hold down the option key (alt) and choose Library which will appear in the menu.
Navigate to Library > Application Support and option-drag the iCloud folder to your desktop (that will make a copy).
Now drag the iCloud folder that is in Library > Application Support to the trash, enter your administrators password when prompted.
Then try entering your info in the Preference Panel again.

  • Still can't sign into icloud in system preferences after many calls with support.  Beyond frustrated!

Still can't sign into icloud in system preferences after many calls with support.  Beyond frustrated!

Do you have 2-step verification on for your Apple ID?  I may have a solution.
When I upgraded to Yosemite and subsequently updated my Apple ID, I would get errors when I tried to sign into iMessage and FaceTime using my apple ID (and my new password), I similarly was not able to sign in.  On FaceTime, I would get errors like "unable to sign in at this time" or some times just nothing at all (the spinning 'processing' graphic would grind away until it presumably just timed out).
Turns out that I enabled 2-step notification on for my Apple ID (totally forgot about it, I set it up a couple years ago), and apparently the regular Apple ID password that you choose is not usable when you try to log in to iMessage or FaceTime through the programs themselves (intuitively, this makes sense since these programs do not have a way to prompt you for the "2nd step" code).
To solve, you have to log in to your Apple ID online (appleid.apple.com or whatever), and look for the option to "Generate App-Specific Passwords".  These are unique, random passwords which are made to work around issues like these since they can be used in iMessage or FaceTime or what not.  This is the same idea as to what you have to do to log into gmail on your iPhone if you have Google 2-step verification on.
This solved my issue (after lots of swearing and hair pulling!).  Would have been nice if a I got some sort of warning when updating my Apple ID password that "Hey, you have 2-step enabled.  Go make some app-specific passwords or you will lose 5 hours of your life trying to solve this mystery"
    Hopefully this may solve yours
