Can I lock the Bookmarks Bar in Safari?

Hi everyone, I operate a computer lab in an elementary school and would like to lock the Bookmarks Bar in Safari to prevent students from dragging (and deleting) the bookmarks. Thanks for your help.

How can I alphabetize the bookmarks in my Safari bookmarks toolbar?

Did you try creating a folder of your bookmarks then drag the folder to your Desktop.
The Finder will automatically alphabetize the folder content.
    Drag back to Safari.

  • When I have Safari maximized, can I lock the menu bar?

Viewing Safari from my desktop, I do and can view/use the menu bar. But, what about when I have Safari maximized? It is always in hiding. Is there a way to lock it? I would like to know time and battery status at a glance....

When you put your screen in "Full Screen Mode," you cannot see the menubar or the dock.  To have access to those two things, you can only drag the viewing screen out to its limits.
To get the pane to its fullest size, drag the left corner all the way to the left of the screen.  Then, Drag the screen out by the selecting the lower right corner and dragging outward to the right.

  • Is it possible to lock the bookmarks bar?

Its nice to be able to move everything around so easily, but I just as easily seem to delete items off the bookmark bar. Is there a way to lock it? Thanks.

I have the bar under the adress bar for bookmarks. But i use lots of bookmaks. When i nedd to access them i press the icon you told, and the side bookmaks bar is shown, and is this bookmaks left side bar that i wish to be permanently there.
What happens is that i open it, choose the bookmark to be open and then it disappears...
On Safari, differently from Firefox, when i press the icon it shows a complete page instead of the side bookmaks bar only.

  • Can you lock the menu bar?

    Hi all,
I am using iWeb to create a website and so far am really pleased with what it can do.
However i would like to be able to lock the menu bar so that it always stays at the top of the screen and the rest of the page scrolls up underneath it, or alongside it if i put the menu bar on the left. The idea is that no matter where the reader is on the page they will always have access to the menu buttons. I remember doing this on another program back in the bad old windows days, i think it might have been locking panes or similar.
Can this be done in iWeb?
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Mike

Here's a locked menu in action.

It's an Ad-Hoc solution, because I had the take the shaded bar at the top into account. Will fixed that later.
The bar at the top of this page and the other pages is a solution to have the bar stretch the width of the page when you resize the browser window.
It cannot be done in iWeb itself. You need a JavaScript.
So you get two solutions for the price of one.
    Here's the JavaScript :
Apparently Discussions does not accept all the JavaScript code.
So have a look at the source here :

Note that you can publish iWeb at DropBox.

  • How can I remove the history bar on safari?

There is no always show bookmark bar in settings. What can I do

Tap the solid blue Bookmark icon at the top of Bookmarks.

  • Safari 5.1.4 renaming "Bookmarks Bar" to "BookmarksBar", causing the bookmarks bar to disappear

After I upgraded to Safari.5.1.4, I noticed that my bookmarks bar was completely gone. I went into Show All Bookmarks, and I noticed under the BOOKMARKS heading on the left, there was a folder called "BookmarksBar" (without the space between Bookmarks and Bar). Thinking I did something wrong, I used drag and drop to move all the folders from "BookmarksBar" to "Bookmarks Bar". Once I did this, the bookmarks bar appeared correctly.
However, after shutting down Safari and restarting, the bookmarks bar was gone again! I did a Show All Bookmarks, and the "Bookmarks Bar" folder was again renamed "BookmarksBar". It seems now that I can't maintain my bookmarks bar between Safari sessions.
Is anyone else experiencing this problem?

    Hi...
You mentioned both bookmarks and extensions in your orginal post on this thread >  https://discussions.apple.com/message/17872836#17872836
The problem is when you start multiple threads for the same issues, we have to go back and check each thread to see what troubleshooting that's been tried that hasn't worked for you. That is time consuming not just for us but for you as well.

  • What does the bookmark bar do? How does it work?

What does the bookmark bar do? How does it work?

You can use the bookmarks bar in Safari to have links to some sites permanently shown at the top of the screen below the address field and icons - so you just have to tap the link on the bar to go to that site as opposed to tapping the bookmarks icon and finding the link in there. So it's just a slightly quicker way to go some of your more regularly used sites

  • How to lock the Properties bar to a toolbar or in some other way, make it permanently open?

How to lock the Properties bar to a toolbar or in some other way, make it permanently open?
Or can that checkbox 'keep tool selected' be made a permanent toolbar item?
I use the rubber stamp tool several times on multiple pages in certain pdfs and found that if I open the 'properties bar', I can select 'keep tool selected' and stamp away as much as I like without having to choose the stamp tool dropdown menu and select 'custom' each time I stamp. I appreciate the recent update that added a recently stamped stamps area and not having to click 'proceed' each time.

You can't lock the Properties Bar, but you also don't need to in order to make the Stamp tool remain selected.
Just right-click it in the Comment menu on the right and select "Keep Tool Selected".

  • I have imported bookmarks from Safari to Firefox but the bookmarks bar does not change in Firefox and match that of Safari. That's the part I need most. Any ideas why? Also, I don't see where to choose for Firefox to be my default browser.

I use a Imac with OS 10.6.7. I've just uploaded Firefox 4. I had Firefox 3 already but do not use it often. I've been using Safari. I imported bookmarks from Safari to Firefox, but the bookmarks bar in Firefox did not change to match that of Safari, and that's where the important bookmarks are. Any ideas?
Also, I can't find where to choose Firefox as my default browser.

Copy the files from the old Profile into the new Profile, replacing the existing files that are in the new Profile. That will make your new installation just like the old one.
Or if you just want your bookmarks, copy only the '''places.sqlite''' file from the old Profile into the new Profile.

  • Why can't I add a bookmark to subfolders in the bookmark bar by drag-n-drop?

Way back in the '90s, there used to be a Mac browser (IE?) that allowed you to drag a URL from the address bar, hover it over a bookmark folder in the bookmark bar, and it would spring open to expose all the subfolders, and allow you to drop the new URL into any of the exposed subfolders.
This remains, without a doubt, the most effective, straightforward, simple, and efficient way of filing bookmarks I've ever experienced.
Why doesn't Safari use this system?  Or does it, and I just don't know how to enable it?  If it doesn't, how can I suggest this to the Safari team?
    Cheers,
    Lloyd

Safari 7 looks likely to allow dragging from the address bar to folders in the  sidebar - although no mention of drag/drop onto sub-folders in the bookmarks (favorites) bar. But there is a + button just to the left, which may allow  '1-click' adding to sub-folders, Reading List etc (more here)

  • Can't edit bookmarks bar in Safari 5.1.10

I have tried to edit the names of bookmarks in the bookmarks bar, and add and delete bookmarks.  The changes take place and Safari will close normally. However, upon re-opening Safari, none of the changes are present, and the bookmarks bar has reverted to the previous pre-edited version.  Restarting does not help. Anyone know how this can be fixed?

Try emptying the cache and resetting Safari.
From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Empty Cache. Try a new window.
If that didn't help, back to the menu bar, click Safari > Reset Safari. Select the top 5 boxes, click Reset. Try again.
    If that didn't help, go to ~ / Library / Caches / com.apple.Safari / Cache.db
Move the Cache.db file from the com.apple.Safari folder to the Trash and restart your Mac.
    Try again.
~ (Tilde) character represents the Home folder.

  • How can I drag to the bookmarks bar?

How can I drag to the bookmarks bar with iPad?

You can't - Safari on the iPad can't be personalised in that way, all you can do is add bookmarks via the icon of the square with the arrow coming out of it
