I have a macbook pro. Can I log into a domain of a win server 2008?
Hans

Generally it is the browser service that populates network neighborhood. This technology is no longer used with newer OS like server 2008, windows 7/8.

  • I can not update a Windows Server 2008 R2 with Software Update Group in SCCM2012

    Hi all,
I got some problems with update deployments these days.
I try to configure SCCM2012 to update 1 Windows Server 2008 R2 (with Hyper-V / This server is in a cluster)
Actually i've 4 other Hyper-V servers and i would like to add one more in the cluster called Hyper-V5. To do that i need that all Hyper-V servers use the same Windows Updates.
I created a collection for my Hyper-V servers and then a Software Update Group with all needed updates (checked the list of another HV-Server).
I did a deployment on this collection using this new Software Update Group.
I checked the Sofwtare Center's logs on the Hyper-V5 server and i saw that synchronization has a successfull state.
But there is no updates installed or displayed in Sofwtare Center.
Here is some screenshots : Oh no i can't post image because ... "Body text cannot contain images or links until we are able to verify your account." waiting to be verified since months.
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi,
Have you try to run Software Updates Scan Cycle and Software Updates Deployment Evaluation Cycle Actions on the client? Please check ScanAgent.log and PolicyAgent.log to see whether the client received the updates deployment policy.

  • Mouse not working in Virtual machine (win2k3 32 and 64 bit) on Windows Server 2008 RC1 With Hyper-V Technologies

I have installed two virtual machines(win2k3 32bit and win2k3 64bit ) on Windows Server 2008 RC1 With Hyper-V Technologies (Beta) enterprise. Mouse is getting lost inside VM (using CTRL+ ATL +  LEFT ARROW  comes mouse control control in host OS).
Is there any setting to make mouse works? Insert Integration Serice setup Disk operation succeeds.

     all credits for mike_something
The problem is that the old mousedriver is hooked to the mouse device class.
To remove this dependency, go into the registry and navigate to the key
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E96F-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Remove the value msvmmouf from the UpperFilters Regvalue.
    Reboot....
    tadaaa!!
If you wish you can take out the drivers completely by deleting these registry hives completely :
    The driver:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\msvmmouf
    The Service:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\VPCMap
The CopyHook Shell Extension: ( for folder access )
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{30C14BA C-122C-42ED-B319-1139DBF48EB8}\InProcServer32
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shellex\CopyHookHandle rs\VPCCopyHook
After a reboot you can delete the "Virtual Machine Additions" folder from program files...

How can I copy a home movie onto another DVD with my MacBook Pro?

    That's a proprietary interface.
Odds are there is no adapter. Ask Sony.

  • How can I speed up logins using MacBooks to a Windows Server 2008 environment.  Logging onto the network is extremely slow.  We are using a wireless connection to the network in classrooms

I work in an Education environment with Windows Server 2008.  I am trying to join our Macbooks to Active Directory.  They are joined but the login is extremely slow.  I read that this is because of a possible problem with an OS update.

Check the ethernet link speed when connected directly to the TC.. if you are plugged into the modem direct.. and comparing that with wireless on the TC we have no way of knowing where the issue is.
There is some issue related by someone when the TC was bridged.
It is extremely hard to impossible to know what is causing wireless slow down.. needs lots more info.
    What is the link speed?
Set manually and try different channels.
The series 1 cannot do 2.4ghz and 5ghz simultaneously but test on 5ghz and see what the speed is like. You will need to be in the same room as the TC.

  • Can't browse anything in Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1

    Hi,
Need your help and expertise. Suddenly, i can't browse anything in my Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 with IIS7. I tried already three(3) different browsers (IE8, Firefox & Chrome). Before, i can browse (using IE8 & Firefox) both private (LAN) and public
(Internet) websites be it via ip address or domain name without any issues whatsoever. In fact, i can't even access the local http website (status in IIS7 is Started) my server is hosting.
The only problem occured just yesterday in my server was drive C: got disk full but i was still able to access via RDP the server and free up disk space of 80GB. I tried already to clear the browsser history,
disable the add-ons of IE8 and turn-off the firewall. I have NOT tried to reset  IE8 settings, disable  third-party
program or service and startup in msconfig as it require reboot of the server. I'm apprehensive
to do things i mentioned i have not tried since the server is up and running for 919 days and 17hours. It is why i tried other browsers that i even installed Chrome just to test and troubleshoot the browsing problem.
    Thanks

  • Microsoft Excel cannot access the file "-". There are several possible reasons. Windows Server 2008 R2 with Microsoft Office 2010

I have a problem with starting the Excel Application under a particular user (service account).
I try to schedule this C# script through an application X (not Windows Task Scheduler. And this
application will always use a service account to run services on the server). If I run the C# script in
command prompt under the same user, it runs. Under the application X, which uses the exact same
user, to initiate the C# script, it fails to open the Excel application (not sufficient permission?).
This script calls application.Workbooks.Open(<ExcelFileName>,0,false,Type.missing....). At this line
of code, it gives the following error:
Microsoft Excel cannot access the file "...". There are several possible reasons:
-The file name or path does not exist.
-The file is being used by another program.
-The workbook you are trying to save has the same name as a currently open workbook.
I tried all the methods that I found online as follow:
Create directory "C:\Windows\SysWOW64\config\systemprofile\Desktop" (for 64 bit Windows) or "C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile\Desktop" (for 32 bit Windows).
Changed the DCOM config for the Microsoft Excel application to include this user for Local/Remote Launch and Access.
Enabled all macros in Excel application and set the Trust Center.
Add the user to have full control on all folders that contain the Excel file.
    Under DCOM
config, Microsoft Excel Application, if I modify the Identity tab to check on "This User" and enter the username/password to let Excel always run under that user. Then the application runs perfectly. However, other users can't run the excel application
on their own with the following error: "Cannot use object linking and embedding". If I check "Use the launching user", then Excel can't be launched. No errors in the logs or events anywhere to check.
Yet, still the same error. I think it's permission but I am not sure where and what to do for this to work.
Now, normally, when I run this excel report, I can double-click on the file and it'd automatically run,
save the new parameters into the current file and generate a new excel file (with date attached to the
file name). That means there is a change (save) to the original file.
Environment: Windows Server 2008 R2 and running Microsoft Excel 2010.
    I appreciate all your help!

I am wondering if this has anything to do with having the user log into Excel.
In point #5 above: Under DCOM config, Microsoft Excel Application, if I modify the Identity tab to check on "This User" and enter the username/password to let Excel always run under that user. Then the application runs perfectly. However, other
users can't run the excel application on their own with the following error: "Cannot use object linking and embedding". If I check "Use the launching user", then Excel can't be launched. No errors in the logs or events anywhere to check.
Because running with the launching user proposes an user to run the Excel application. However, I do not think there is any where that we can pass in the password for this user to Excel. However, this Excel has all the permissions to Excel application as
well as the folders that have the Excel files.
    Please help!
    Thank you!

I'm looking to uninstall the WSUS server role 3.0 from Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1. The thing is the database is hosted on a remote MS SQL server. I want to remove the database as well. I would like help for figuring out what I need to do to completely remove
    WSUS and its database.
Any kind of help is appreciated! Thanks

    Hi,
WSUS offers limited support for running database software on a computer that is separate from the computer where the rest of WSUS is installed. This section offers step-by-step
instructions for how to install WSUS in this configuration.
If you meet the uninstall issue with the normal uninstall, please post the detail information for us but if you just want to manage the WSUS related SQL data, you can refer
the following KB then delete corresponding database.
In the general procedure, you will create the related WSUS database as below::
Run WSUS Setup from the command line, using the SQLINSTANCE_NAME=servername\instancename command-line option, where servername is the name of the remote computer, and instancename
is the name of the SQL Server instance that you will use for WSUS.
    More information:
Choose the Database Used for WSUS 3.0

    Appendix B: Configure Remote SQL

    Hope this helps.

  • Macbook clients cannot connect to Windows Server 2008 RRAS with L2TP/IPSec

    Hi everyone,
I had installed "Remote and Routing Access" or a VPN server on Windows Server 2008. The connection type set up is L2TP/IPSec. All the Windows clients can connect to the L2TP/IPSec VPN server without problem but Macbook users are facing problem.
The Macbook users got the error message "The L2TP-VPN server did not respond. Try reconnecting. If the problem continues, verify your settings and contact your Administrator."
I think it is something related to the pre-shared key encryption but I am not sure. The Macbook users could connect if the connection type is changed to PPTP on server and clients side. I searched for similar problems and solutions online but no luck, I couldn't find solution that helps. I found this is a common problem faced by many macbook users.
Does anyone have a solution or suggestion for this, please? I appreciate all the helps and suggestion given.
    Thanks,
    CK

    Hi,
Thanks for the question, however, this forum is for Remote Desktop Clients related questions.
Regarding the issue, as Windows clients can connect with no problem, I suspect that it is a Mac side issue and I would like to suggest you contact Apple support for help.
    Thanks.

i could not understand the reason

    Hi,
What is the STOP error while BSOD occurred? You could try to troubleshoot BSOD with the following method.

In addition, have you tried to use Native Boot to make a dual boot? For details, please refer to the following articles.

  • Can I get a Dell U2410 Monitor to work with a MacBook Pro?

I rashly bought this monitor. It looks lovely but it has a maximum resolution of 1920 x 1200, which I could not get with the VGA connection, and Dell do not make drivers for the Mac at all. Is there any chance of getting this monitor to work properly with my MacBook Pro? I found the Dell support site extremely difficult to penetrate, so I put the monitor back in its box and am going to sell it if I can't easily find out how to use it.
    Any advice is welcome.

I think you are using the wrong adapter. Higher resolutions require the use of a mini display port to DVI or DVI-D Dual link adapter. A VGA adapter will not do the job.
And I assume you are trying "extended" and not "mirrored" mode. What model Macbook Pro do you have?
