Can I make a blur transition?

I have a short clip.
I made a "freeze frame" snapshot of the first frame and added it to the beginning of the project, so now I have five seconds of the person "frozen" before they start talking.
I would like to start that five seconds blurred out, and have it slowly fade into focus, and then the actual clip start playing.
This is so I can put a title and logo over the blurred part and have it fade away, as the image comes into focus.
I know how to do this in Premiere Pro, but need to do it in Elements, if it is possible.

When I replied to your question, it was as I envisioned it as described in my post numbered 1.
After a re-read, I am wondering if you had the 5 second freeze frame always envisioned as a blurred (out of focus) image for most of the image's 5 second duration, with it coming into full focus only at its end as the title leaves and freeze frame ending and video beginning. If that is what you had in mind, then I would ask you to look at...
Note title on Video 2 which spans the complete duration of the 5 second freeze frame directly below it on Video 1.
The title has had a fade in and fade out applied to it.
The Freeze Frame on Video 1 has had the fx Effects/Blur & Sharpen/Gaussian Blur effect applied to it. The Gaussian
Blur effect was keyframed so that the freeze frame stayed at max blur until 4 second point and thereafter fade to no blur.
There are 3 Gaussian Blur keyframes: first at 50 at the beginning 00;00;00;00, second at 50 at about 00;00;04;00, and third at 0 at the end of the freeze frame clip.
The other scheme for your goal was based on Opacity keyframing and placement of the files as indicated in the following screenshot.
Here I did not take the Opacity keyframes to 0 at the junction of the freeze frame and video. More like Opacity 100% to 20% for the Freeze Frame end and Opacity 20% to 100% at the video clip start.
Please review and consider and then let us know if any of that worked for you.

I remember before I upgraded to FCPX the previous version of Final Cut had audio transitions (a cross fade 0Db and a cross fade +3Db). I have not needed an audio transition in Final Cut until now and I couldn't find one in FCPX. So I set out to build one in Motion 5 (I have experience in creating my own generators and transitions in motion) but I could not seem to figure out how to work with audio. Motion is a graphics tool, and not designed to work with audio.
You will want to look at the manual for FCPX to find out how to do audio dissolves. I'm guessingt he audio will need to be in a Storyline for you to beable to do this. The other wa is the have the audio as connected clips and simply add a fade up and and down to the clip end and start.

OK, I understand what you mean now! I assumed you were asking about the normal Fade In or Fade Out using the transition from the Transitions panel. But I guess you mean the Fade function specific to a Cutaway. When you double-click on a Cutaway the Inspector opens. Here you can set the Cutaway Fade duration. But as you say, it only provides for both fade in and fade out as one operation - you can't set the fades individually (it's both or nothing).
BUT, try the method outlined by Karsten Schluter above. It will give you the same effect and will enable you to fade either side of the Cutaway (or add other transitions).

Can't Make a Decision on the Yoga 2 Pro

Am in the market for a new laptop and love the look of the Yoga 2 Pro. It has the specs that I'm looking for - i5, 256gb SSD, 8gb RAM - but I keep hesitating over the 3200x1800 resolution.
I am a middle-aged guy (with middle-aged eyes) who will be using the laptop for typical e-mail and internet browsing as well as heavy MS Office, particularly Excel. I looked at a Y2P in Best Buy today and in Desktop Mode even the basic taskbar icons were tiny. Resolution was set at the native 3200x1800 and the scaling was set at Largest.
From what I understand, Windows Store Apps appear just fine, but many desktop apps have scaling problems. Is that a true statement? What about Excel? Are the menus and cells the same size as I would be seeing on my older Windows 7 screen?
If I change the resolution to 1080, will everything remain fairly crisp or will it blur?
The Yellow and Wifi issues are fixable, but I can't get a handle on this high res thing. I'd hate to pay $1k for machine and have to hobble it to make it usable until the software catches up. If you use your Y2P like I would (i.e. MS Office, etc.), do you find yourself cursing at small menus and icons, or are you working away in complete bliss?

I don't own a Yoga 2 Pro, but about resolutions:
TL;DR: If 1600x900 is an option, you shouldn't get any of the traditional blurring caused by changing resolutions.
The long version with math and some history about Apple and Lenovo:
Yes, changing a 3200x1800 native screen to 1920x1080 will make it blurry. Why? Because 3200 cannot neatly divided into 1920 and 1800 cannot neatly divided into 1080. You can't split pixels, so you get some blur as the monitor tries to round-off some things.
Buuuut, if you can set it to 1600x900 (the original Yoga's resolution, incidentally), then you might be OK. It's exactly half the native and shouldn't cause any blurring.
But, I don't own a Yoga 2 Pro, so I don't know if 1) 1600x900 is an option and 2) if there are any other weird things that happen.
But, the normal blurring that happens because you change from native resolution on an LCD is because...in the end...we can't make half-pixels. You have to use integers.
Apple was smart about this, actually:
iPhone 3GS: 480x320
iPhone 4 (first w/ Retina-branding): 960x640
Perfectly double -> no blurring. Made the whole transition a lot smoother.

FCP can't handle effects or transitions without jittering.

Hey guys, i'm on a FCP7 from Final Cut Studio, I've used this for a good while now, however, just recently, every effect, or transition i place, the video jitters. now i don't know if it will actually export it that way or if it will. My question is, how can i make my fcp not jitter with transitions (as simple as dissolve). Is it possible to uninstall the software without damaging the files?

I am not a super trouble shooter, but try 2 things - try copying the clips in your timeline and pasting them in a new sequence to see if the problem persists.
Also, where are your scratch disks - if they are on your boot drive, I would suggest moving them, including your render scratch, to a separate drive, preferably external. You may have a space issue if your scratch disks are on your boot drive (even if you don't have a space issu) it is still a good idea to keep your scratch disks separate from your boot drive).

Cross dissolve is the default transition. It's applied with Cmd-T.

You have not said what your target size is nor how many photos you have or how large on screen. Nor what version of Pages you are using. Nor whether it is just for looking at on screen or you require a good print.
Reducing file size is a combination of things that can be done with no loss of quality:
1. Crop and reduce resolution of images in a 3rd party application, Preview will do.
and those that will reduce quality
2. Menu > File > Reduce File Size
3. Menu > Share > Export > PDF > Good (Good is not very good unfortunately)
Use vector (drawing) pdfs in place of bitmap (photo) images can save considerable size. Preparing photos in other programs also allows you to control the image quality of jpegs and tricks like slightly blurring them prior to saving.
Pages is not very efficient in this regard and there are limits to what you can do. Lots of images, covering a lot of the page does add up to a bigger file whatever you do.

Use:
1. Automate to sequence and select the transition you want, or
2. Apply the transition in the timeline, copy, select the rest of the clips and paste attributes.

Using trial- can't find audio & can't make post roll

I am trying PPro CS5 and have two things I cannot figure out. First I would like to create a video with the following flow:
Title > Transition > Vid Camera shots > transition > Post Roll
I made the title and imported the video. The video has been copied to my hard drive and was shot in AVCHD, which means it is an MTS file. When I double click on the file (outside of PPro) it plays just fine. When I preview it in the source monitor, there is no audio. (1) How do I get the audio? One thing I thought was strange is when opening a new project, there is no choice for AVCHD. So, i assume it is not available in the trial. Is this true? Surely it is in the finished product.
When I try to make the post roll, the title slide pops onto the screen and I cannot get rid of it. When I made the title, I selected "default still" and when I try to create the post roll, I selected "default roll". How can I make this work without automatically getting the title slide?

I see now that there are some things that won't work with the trial. That was my assumption all along.
A post roll is like the credits at the end of a movie. You create some text that scrolls from top to bottom. You can have it start on-screen or off-screen, etc. When I try to use this, my title pops onto the screen and it will not go away. I cannot select with any of the selection tools. It may just be another limitation of the trial, though I didn't recognize it in the list. BTW, I have used this function in CS4, and it works perfectly.

Hi, I want to make slideshow for presentation. And I want to know how can I make this slide.
For example in this picture, have 1 main slide and 6 sub slides. I want to make slide like this, and all slides should be in one slide. And I want to zoom in to sub slide when I click and then zoom out when I click one more. And then second slide should be zoom in when I click and zoom out when I click again. And then slide 3 etc.
I want to know how can I do this.

There are two ways to do this.
1. Duplicate the main or first slide numerous times - as many as you'll need for the show, which looks like 6 including the first "overview slide".
2. You know have two choices - either use the Magic Move transition between the first slide and the next, which has the main box centre screen and enlarged proportionally.
3. Or enlarge the slides so that the main point is central, but use hyperlinks to move between the slides. This also gives you the liberty of changing the order spontaneously should the situation demand. Using the main first slide, place an invisible box around each element and use a link to move to that slide which is enlarged. Then you have to decide if you will come back each time to slide 1 (the overview) by having the whole slide hyperlinked to slide 1, or the whole slide linked to the next slide. That way you don't have to go looking for the hyperlink area.
The Magic Move effect will give your presentation a "Prezi" like effect, while the hyperlinked version I've described will just use gentle dissolves between each slide.
I will sometimes use 3 because I want to encourage audience participation and let them choose where to go next... e.g., the various elements of a 747 wing assembly, or the interior of a large cruise ship, showing state rooms, dining, pool area, ballroom, etc.

• Import Photos from Media button / Photos
• Insert transition of choice
• Insert Audio at Your liking - I convert all to .aiff and not use any .mp3 or from iTunes directly (converted they work OK)
If DVD - Then use

• FinalCut any version
• FotoMagico™
• iDVD - BUT this is limited in several ways
- max 99 photos per show
- one transition possibly
- audio - one audio tract (but this can be created outside iDVD to contain more than one tune

As far as functionality goes, I don't see anything wrong. when it comes to efficiency you need to keep some general pointers in mind. These issues which I'm bringing up will not affect your code currently since your array sizes are small but can start creating memory fragmentaion and slow down the software if your array sizes are much larger and the software runs for a long period of time.
1. Try not to use Build Array. Each time you use a built array labview creates a copy in the memory. Try to initilized your arrays and replace the subsets.
2. as much as you can try not index arrays or unbundle cluster multiple times. try to perform as many tasks as possbile in one shot. (this was evident in your second loop)
Besides that it's looking good.
I made a few modifications to your code and attached it. I wanted to give you a different take on it as it relates to being able to control the inputs and outputs programitically, if you had a look up table. I didn't make the same modifications to your second loop but I can guide you through what needs to be done if you would like to move in this direction. Again your original code is well done for someone who is new to labview so don't feel like you need to follow the new VI design. Just try to remove the build array and multiple indexing as a good programming habbit.

3000 v200 + Lenovo Enhanced USB Port Replicator + Samsung SyncMaster 2043WM - Can't make it work

Hi there! Have spent tons of time solving this - but if I plug my SyncMaster screen into the port replicator, my 3000 V200 does show a mirror image on the SyncMaster (but its blurred and does not fit the screen) but at the same time I can't make the system recognize that I have two different screens running.
If I plug the SyncMaster directly into the 3000 v200, it recognizes that I have two screens and the graphics are better (but not great) - but all I wanted was just a very convenient docking station like arrangement.
I have tried the software the came with the port replicator (many times)

I am having a very similar problem but do not have an answer either. I am running an X61 Type 7676A12 with a Lenovo ACP50 port replicator FRU part number 40Y8160. I am running Windows XP Pro. The port replicator has never been very great and would not restore the external monitor picture properly when the laptop had been in sleep mode however it was serviceable if not optimal. After downloading and installing the October MS security updates the machine would get a BSOD when the port replicator was plugged in. Remove the replicator and reboot and it worked ok. Plug it in again and BSOD. I tried upgrading the drivers from 5.1.4a to 7.1.1.03Aug07 and then to 7.1.2. No go. Emailing Targus with the problem got no response. The port replicator is now relegated to my junk heap of useless rubbish.

Blur transition?

I don't see any "blur across" for FCE. Is there a way to do that (besides adding blur filters and cross-disolving, etc)? Are there any free third-party blur transitions that can be used in FCE?

OK, I've just spent hours searching . . . . actually a couple of minutes, and found what I think is exactly what you want.
The only trouble is that it is mixed in with a couple of hundred other effects.
However, if you click on my name for my email address and email me, I will send you the lot.
They are only about 3MB so emailing them is no problem.
As for the cost, please deposit £1,000,000 (GBP) in my Swiss Bank Account . . . . if you can't afford that I might let you have them free!
