Can I make a custom sized movie us iMovie?

What I am looking to create is a demonstration for an iPhone application for a situation where recording in the emulator is not feasible. I thought I'd capture a bunch of screen shots and drop them in to iMovie then use transitions so simulate the behavior of the app such as screens sliding in etc. This works well with one major exception - I can only create a movie that is 4:3 or 16:9. As such when my new page slides in the black bar slides over it first.
I was hoping I could make the canvas for my movie a custom size that matches the size of the iPhone screen then the transition would neatly simulate the way the application transitions between screens.
I read an article for an older version of iMovie that suggested using a PICT file as a mask but this doesn't seem to work in iMovie 11 (or I am doing something wrong).
Thanks in advance for any assistance.
Chris.

With iMovie 11 you could do this, but to fit the 4:3 aspect ratio, you would have to use Letter Boxing. To do this, select the screen shot jpeg in your project, and use the Rotate, Crop, Ken Burns Tool to select FIT.
However, there is a solution that will let you use the exact dimensions of the iPhone. QuickTime Pro will let you customize the dimensions any way you want.
You can get QuickTIme Pro online from Apple for about $30. You will need QuickTime Player version 7, which is an optional install on the OSX install disk (if you have Show Leopard). If you have Leopard, you probably already have QuickTIme Player 7.
In QuickTime Player 7, click QuickTime Player 7/Registration/Buy QuickTime 7 Pro.
There is a QuickTime discussion group if you need detailed help from experienced users.

  • Can i make a custom size movie like 900x269

Im trying to make a movie that is that size can i do it with imovie?

Not in iMovie. iMovie will do 16:9 and 4:3.
The tool that will do what you need is QuickTime Pro Version 7, available for about $30 from Apple.
You first need QuickTime Player Version 7, which is the version before QuickTime X. You can generally find this as an optional install on your OSX Install Disk. You can have QuickTime 7 and QuickTime X installed on the same computer.  Then you buy a code to unlock the Pro capabilities from Apple Online.

  • How can I create a custom sized video in PP cs6?

How can I create a custom sized video in PP cs6? I have read references to the "desktop" setting but cannot find it. I am trying to find the right settings for a 1080 px x 486 px video (which I need to qualify for hi res on Vimeo).  I need to output a 450 x 1000 px video for
my website. Ideally, I'd like the sequence settings as well as the output settings. I am using still shots- no actual video.

What are the exact properties of the still images, particularly the pixel dimensions and pixel aspect ratio (PAR).* The letterboxing (black bars top & bottom) is most likely a result of a mismatch in these settings. If this is the case, then the easiest fix is to make sure not only the dimensions but the PAR match.
Say for instance your source images are 1000x1000 with a PAR of 1.0 (square pixels) and your sequence is set also set to 1000x1000 but with the PAR set to D1/DV NTSC (0.9091), the result would be letterboxing as seen here:
*if you're not sure about the PAR of your source images, right click on one of them in the Project panel and select Properties.

  • Can you make a custom alarm clock tones

is it possible to make a custom alarm tone such as a voice recording?

You would need to do so on a computer and then import the ring tone to the device via iTunes.
alternately, you can purchase tones from the iTunes store directly from the app, or set it to use any song you have in the Music app..

  • Can i make a Playlist for movies?

hi i was wondering if there was a way to make a playlist for movies like with Windows Media Player like how you can just open several clips up at once and it plays them in order i just got Quicktime 7 Pro and im confused on how i would go about doing this if anyone could explain how to make a Playlist for movies on Quicktime id really appreciate it thanks

I can suggest two ways to do playlists with movies:
    A. Use iTunes. Just as you would build a playlist with songs, do it with movies. Just drop movies inside iTunes Videos source (left column), then create a playlist and populate it with those videos. Then play it in fullscreen !
    -- or --
    B. Use reference movies to chain several movies. This can be done with QuickTime Pro or SimpleMovieX for example.
Here is the way to do it with SimpleMovieX (I known it better, as I'm the autor of this application) : Open first movie, go at the end, then drop the second movie, go at the end, drop the third, and so on... Then do Save RefMovie. This will just create a movie that refers to the sequence of movie, but does not contain them. You can also add chapter marks to have direct access to each individual movie with Add Chapters.

  • How can I make a simple Pendulum movement

    Hi,
I am quite new to motion and at the moment I am thinking that I am tiring to run before I can walk this idea of mine.
I am trying to make a repeating pendulum movement, like the movement of the Newtons cradle with the 4 balls, the energy of the swinging outer left ball is transferred to the outer right ball on contact etc. Each ball will show a short looping video footage.
Is there a simple way of creating an arced motion path (upwards and outwards) for the first ball and then reversing it along the same motion path, but then copying this path to the opposite side, mirroring the complete movement?
I have tried converting to a simple motion path to keyframes but I get into a bit of a mess.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.

I actually just did an animation based on that desk decor thing... it was easy once i figured out what to do...
Now, i tought myself motion, so my way may not be the "best" or quickest but it worked. First...import the object/make the object or whatever. second, go to behaviors and take basic motion path. After that, take the bezier curve adjustment and arc the line. That will get you the object going up in a swing or down...depending on where you put the start point on the curve. After that, copy the actual motion curve, but put the new end point to where the old start point was...basically invert the motion (if there is a simpler way to do this please tell me). that will get the object to go up/down then down/up.
So that gets the basic motion of a half swing.
If your object hits another object (like in the desk thing) make sure your snap lines are on because youll need them to line up the motion. Do the same thing to the second object as you did to the first, but going the oposite way. The snap lines will help guide you to make sure the second object goes as high as the first. To make it look correct i pretty much eyeballed the connection of one object to the next going frame by frame. I also added the "ease at end" motion to the rising motion path to add a realistic touch.
If this is confusing i'm sorry...

  • How can I make a custom domain email for my client?

I have an Adobe Muse subscription, with hosting through Adobe, and the Domain name is also with Adobe. How can I make an email for a particular domain for my client so that it will use a "company email" (even if it just redirects to say a gmail or yahoo that is fine) to read "[email protected]?

    Hello,
As I can see you have a WebBasic Creative Cloud site, I would suggest you to use GoogleApps for your e-mail services.
Please have a look at the article which would help you achieve this : http://helpx.adobe.com/business-catalyst/partner/setting-google-apps-email-business.html

  • Can I do a Stop Motion Movie in iMovie?

Can I make a stop motion video from a bunch of stills in iMovie? I can't figure out where to start... not to mention iMovie seems to think I'm in love with the Ken Burns effect, which I'm not and has applied it to every one of my frames. I can't remove it without doing it for each individual frame - painful! I recall iMovie being so simple and straight forward years ago but haven't used it in a long while. Now when I look at it I'm completely lost. Is this because I'm not starting out with video that it doesn't show me a timeline with my stills in it?

Can I make a stop motion video from a bunch of stills in iMovie?
Yes, if you have the patience. (It's probably easier with QT Pro -- i.e., "Open Image Sequence" File menu option.)
I can't figure out where to start...
Start by making/creating/separating the frames and ordering them.
not to mention iMovie seems to think I'm in love with the Ken Burns effect, which I'm not and has applied it to every one of my frames. I can't remove it without doing it for each individual frame - painful!
It's a lot easier if you change your "Initial Photo Placement" option in the "Project Properties..." window from "Ken Burns" to "Fit in Frame" before adding your material to the project."
Is this because I'm not starting out with video that it doesn't show me a timeline with my stills in it?
Try expanding your "clip icons" to "0.5 second" to create a two-dimensional "pseudo" timeline.

  • How can I make a custom component focusable?

    Hi all,
I'm using a custom made component that consists of a JLabel
and a JTextField. I want to make this component focusable,
and when it's in focus I want the JTextField to have the
focus so that the user can start typing immediately.
I've looked at the java tutorial
    (http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/uiswing/misc/focus.html#focusable).
When my component gets the focus I request the focus to the
JTextField. The problem is: whenever i check if my custom
component has the focus, it hasn't because JTextField has it
    (the focus, i mean :-) ) Which isn't strange i think, but
how can i solve this problem?

I want to make this component focusable, and when it's in focus I want the JTextField to have the focus
The problem is: whenever i check if my custom component has the focus, it hasn't because JTextField has it (the focus, i mean :-) So whats the problem the textField has focus as desired.
You don't need to make the containing panel focusable in order for the text field to receive focus. The FocusManager is smart enough to place focus on the first focusable component contained in the panel. If you make the panel focusable then you will need to use the tab key twice, once to move focus to the panel and a second time to move focus to the text field.

  • How can I make a custom widget--JSlider2D?

    Hello
I need to control two values x and y on a GUI. I am using two perpendicular JSliders to do that, but it looks ugly and is hard to use. I dreamed of makeing a 2D Slider(!) which basically would be a square of a circle with a nub in the middle. User can replace the nub and programmer gets back getValueX(), getValueY(), etc. Could someone please tell me how (or whether) I could do that?
    Thanks a lot,
    Mehrdad

Just create a component that does that. You can extend JComponent and make your own paintComponent() method to paint however you want your component to look like.
You might also add a custom MouseMotionListener to your component and in its mouseDragged() method you can update the x and y values.
If you plan to use a layout manager that takes the components' preferred size into consideration you should make your component return a suitable value in its getPreferresSize() method.

  • Can you make a custom quicktime conversion export be your default?

When I go to export a quicktime conversion, I change the perameters to a custom setting for my need. Next time I go back into quicktime conversion, it goes back to the FCP defaults and I have to set my custom settings all over again.
Is there a way to create a custom export in quicktime conversion AND MAKE THAT the new default for quicktime conversion?
Alternatively, is there a quicker way to always get to my preferred export settings?
    Thanks.

Why not just construct your favourite QT EXPORT setting in Compressor and then drag that setting into the box every time you want that type of movie?

  • You can not make TRUELY custom buttons inb Photoshop

After several weeks of research, dozens of forum posts and replies, I have come to the conclusion that only BASIC, SIMPLE buttons can be made in Photoshop and ported into DVDSP where the only attribute for the selected state is a highlighted background. (ver 3.x)
One of the reasons for needing to create a custom button is for outlined text. This is needed to be able to see smaller buttons on a picture backgrounded menu where there is a lot of dark/ bright spots. Even when porting into DVDSP a button that is outlined text (by applying "Stroke" to the text and rasterizing) the text is solid when in DVDSP.
I was able to do a lot to buttons in Adobe Encore, I can make a line appear when selected as well as change the background color. It was simple to do. Each button was a single .psd file with a Specific name for each Layer SET, not layer. It seems that buttons in DVDSP are embedded objects within a master file.
I defy anyone to create a button for DVDSP (or say how) with the following attributes:
    Not Selected--->Outlined text, nothing else
Selected------->Same text, with a line above and a line below and slightly highlighted background.
Activated (optional) Same as selected but with a different highlight color.
    Thanks

I am not sure if I am understanding the issue, did you look at the examples in the other post?
    http://dvdstepbystep.com/newmap.php
    http://dvdstepbystep.com/qm.php
If I understand what you want, create an overlay with 3 colors, the Black, Blue and Red with the Chroma keys, the outline is Black in the file, the lines are Blue in the file and and the Highlights Red in the file
1.) Selected - Map Black to whatever percentage color you want, Map Blue and Red to 0 percent
2.) Selected- Map Black to whatever percentage color you want, Map Blue for the line Color/Precentage and then Red to a color semi transparent number (lower numbers more transparent) which will highlight/tint the background
2.) Active - Map Black to whatever percentage color you want, Map Blue for the line Color/Precentage and then Red to a color semi transparent number (lower numbers more transparent) which will highlight/tint the background
Not sure if you envision something else for the highlight on the background? If you mean change the actual background color of the entire background you probably want to use layered menus

  • Can I make a 2 hour movie on my MacBook Pro?

I offered my services to do a video show for a friend whose sister died tragically. I've done shows, complete with music, video footage and still pics before numerous times. But when they took up my offer I had no idea that they would insist on having 1000+ pictures plus some video footage. Holy sh---t. I am up for the challenge but am not sure if my laptop can take it! anyone have any advice? I am 57 minutes into it and it doesn't seem like fce wants to import anymore video? Anyone have any advice as to how to do 1000 pics and some video editing? i'm desperate.

I'll add one other comment, not related to the technical question you asked, but more on the creative side.
I've created a number of memorial slideshows both with and without video, and one of the most important things to keep in mind is that shorter is usually better. Depending on the venue in which it will be shown, I've found 10-20 minutes to be plenty of time to capture the essence of the person and hit the emotional impact the occasion calls for. After some point, longer takes away from the impact rather than adds to it. Two hours is a LONG time.
If the family insists I suppose you have little choice, but make sure they know there is a difference between a tribute and an unabridged autobiography.
Secondly, remind yourself this is NOT the time to show off your technical wizardry and special effects/transitions. Get out of the way and let the person being memorialized be the focus. Simple is way better here.
And kudos to you for taking on this project. It's a lot of work but will be treasured for years.
