Can I make a non-italic font italic with indesign.

I have a client who insists I can take a font they want me to use that does not come in italic and make it italic? I think I remember you used to be able to do this in quark but is there some way to do it in indesign?

To expand on Peter's responses ...
You can oblique text as he describes, however, that does not make a true italic style. It is only a “slanted” version of the orignal style. A number of san serif font families have oblique styles instead of true italic styles where such slanted (“obliqued”) version of typefaces are provided as part of the font family although in many such cases, the font style is still labelled (or maybe better put, mislabelled) as “italic” as opposed to “oblique.” This hackery is much less common for serif font families.
A true italic font actually have a different design that the underlying “normal” / “regular” style. Typically, these differences are most pronounced in a lower case “a” or “g” for example.
You may want to point this out to your client, contrasting text rendered with the artifically obliqued font with that rendered with a true italic font in a similar font family. They may or may not actually care, but at least they won't complain about it afterwards.

    How can I make multi partitions in my MakBook with Windows 7??

    From what I read you can't. If you used Boot Camp to partition the Macintosh hard drive so you could install Win 7 on a boot camp partition you are locked into that one partition.
    If you try to RE-partition that BC partition Win 7 won't boot, and IIRC there is a possibility of OS X not booting (Not sure about that). I just went through this myself.
    That's one of the big reason I have gone back to Win PCs as my main systems.
    Mac's are OK but to restrictive in what you can do with the hardware, and the OS IMHO.

  • How can I make a small swf file out of InDesign

    I have a 200 page book (PDF). I am trying to make a flip book to preview in web browser. How can I make a small swf file out of InDesign with the PDF I have?

    There is another point:
    if you are using JPEG images together with SWF as output file format, you could get smaller images by:
    1. using the Export For Web menu for generating size optimized JPEGs in PhotoShop opposed to Save As JPEG
    2. stripping all color management (ICC) information off the files (SWF is not very good in color management besides sRGB, I think…)

    Are you wanting a VI that emulates a RS filp flop, or do you have a question about using an actual one?
    You can make a RS flip flop by knowing the 4 states:
    R=0, S=0, Q=no change
    R=0, S=1, Q=1
    R=1, S=0, Q=0
    R=1, S=1, Q=?(invalid condition)

  • Can I make an additional hard drive partition with a boot camp partition on my mac?

    Hi.
    I have installed boot camp and now I want another partition for a second install of Mavericks. Can I make another partition for this without messing up Windows 8.1?

    Is it dangerous to use an external HD to boot from? The guy at Circuit City told me it was.
    One danger of using an external hard drive as a boot drive, is the connection is not as reliable as an internal hard drive. The other is the mistaken assumption that just because it is separate, or not part of the computer, that it is safe. The only true safety comes in numbers. You should always backup your data*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/backup.html
    2.5" hard drives are a little less reliable than 3.5" hard drives because of the smaller parts involved. Mac Minis have 2.5" hard drives, whereas other desktop Macs have 3.5" hard drives. Whether the reliability of Firewire or USB over SATA or Parallel ATA on 2.5" is enough to offset this difference is hard to say. Having enough backups ensures you don't have to be surprised when you find out in your situation.

  • Can Shuttles be based non-base  table ViewObjects with transient attributes

    Hello,
    Users have to select records from a data collection and a Shuttle looks most appropriate/nice for this purpose. We can introduce technical intersection tables in order to generate the Shuttles with JHeadstart 10g R3 if necessary, but there is no “functional” need to update any data in the database and therefore it would be practical if the ‘right’ side from a Shuttle can be based non-base table ViewObjects with transient attributes only. So, our interested is to know which records have been selected, i.e. moved to the right side from the Shuttle.
    Hope that my question is clear enough.
    Greetings,
    Michael

    Michael,
    This cannot be generated out-of-the-box.
    It is easiest to add the shuttle post-generation to your page, and then create a custom template to generate your custom shuttle into the page. I suggest you take a look at an example of a generated shuttle in a page, and the JHeadstart IntersectionShuttleBean class. You will see that the value property of <af:selectManyShuttle> points to the selectedKeys method in the JHeadstart Shuttle bean. In your case, you can create your own managed bean and bind the value property to your own method which will provide you access to the selected rows. The value property of the selectItem within the af:selectManyShuttle determines the property that is used to identify the selected row (which is the row key in case of Jhs-generated shuttles).

  • Can I make a Picture-In-Picture movie with iMovie?

    Can you make a picture-in-picture using imovie? If so, how do I do it? If not, what program would I need to accomplish this task? Thanks for the help!

    I don't know whether this can be done in iMovie 08, but having been on an Apple one to one tutorial this morning, I can say 100% that picture-in-picture is easily achievable in Final Cut Express 4, only because we broached on this subject and the tutor showed me how easily it could be done.

  • You can't use this version of Font Book with Snow Leopard!

    Hi,
    Since upgrading to Snow Leopard I get the following error message when attempting to open Font Book:
    "You can't use this version of the application Font Book with this version of Mac OS X. You have Font Book 2.1."
    Most solutions I've found via Google simply suggest reinstalling Snow Leopard. Does anyone know of a less drastic solution to this problem?
    Could I copy the correct version of Font Book (v2.2) the SL CD?
    Thanks,
    Mateus

    you should have fontbook 2.2 already if you installed SL. possibly you have an old leopard version of fontbook in a different location and that's what you are trying to run now. go to the main Applications folder at the top level of the hard drive and launch Font Book from there. does it run?

  • Font issues with InDesign CC

    I've been happily producing a monthly trade magazine for years with InDesign CS5.5 V 7.5.3. No problems. Last month I started using InDesign CC. First sign of trouble was that, when I sent the proof (pdf made with Acrobat XI Pro), to the client, many of the headlines (Calibri) would only partially print, or wouldn't print at all. Then, when the magazine went to the commercial printer (packaged from InDesign CC and with an IDML), many (not all) of the text (Palatino Linotype) ran together and stories were short, leaving white space. It was a disaster! (Fortunately, the client proofed it before presstime, so they took the blame.) What's the problem here?

    Here it is January 2015 and I have font problems with Adobe CC. Been using apps and Font Book for years without font troubles, and since I started using Adobe CC, every single day I have an issue. Specifically, just now, working in InDesign: I have been using postscript fonts for Franklin Gothic forever. Some of them disappeared from my font list, so when I opened a document using them, they are shaded pink. I found Franklin Gothic URW in typekit and loaded those. Changed all my fonts to fonts from that set, yet I still get error messages. When I open Find Font, I see three FranklinGothic-Medium in the list with yellow warning signs. If I select one, Replace with the comparable in the FranklinGothic URW family, the Change All button is shaded and I can't select it. And then when I try to save as pdf, I get a Font Missing warning. And this has happened with other font families, so not specific to Franklin Gothic.
    So frustrating.

  • Can Pagemaker 7.0.1 co-exist peacefully with Indesign cs4 on same hard drive?

    I have pm701 running just nicely here, using win xp. I am now ready to install idcs4, but pm701 must continue to perform properly for many months yet. (my logic being that the time will come one day when pm701 will not function properly anymore.. i.e. newer operating system... trying to be pro-active here, without shooting myself either)  Is there any issue/ conflict to anticipate? please and thanks

    As you're using Win XP rather than Vista or 7 then, unless I'm mistaken, PM7 should coexist quite happily with InDesign CS4 as with any other prog as it is installed in its own unique folder.
    Bear in mind that PM files can be opened by InDesign. The results are usually usable with either major or minor work needed depending on issues such as missing fonts, text formating, missing links and so on. As InDesign can do everything PM can do and more, you may just find yourself needing PM less and less!

  • Fonts included with InDesign or the CC or CS bundles?

    Is there a list of the fonts that were included in the CC or CS bundles? I used to know where these ints were stored when the apps were installed, but now I don't know where they are. I need a list of which fonts came with the programs.
    Sue Campbell

    Hi Sue,
    The CS bundles have documented lists for example: http://www.adobe.com/type/browser/fontinstall/cs6installedfonts.html
    CC subscriptions give access to typekit so you could say you have access to all fonts listed here: Full Library | Typekit
    Also see the faq: http://www.adobe.com/products/type/creative-cloud-fonts.html
    Does Adobe Creative Cloud come with fonts?
    Yes. Every subscription to the Creative Cloud includes Adobe Typekit. Full (paid) Creative Cloud plans and most single-app subscriptions include a Typekit Portfolio plan, which includes hundreds of fonts for both desktop and web. Other Creative Cloud subscriptions also include a selection of fonts for desktop and web use; refer to the subscription requirements for more information.
    Do individual Adobe applications come with fonts?
    Yes. Any subscription to an individual Adobe application includes a Typekit account. Adobe’s Photography Bundle, which is significantly discounted, includes a selection of fonts for web and desktop with Typekit’s free plan. All other single-app subscriptions include a Typekit Portfolio plan, with hundreds of fonts for web and desktop from Adobe and other type foundries.
    Did Adobe take away the fonts it used to bundle?
    No. All of the same fonts which used to be installed onto users' computers are available for desktop sync and web use from Typekit — along with hundreds more great typefaces from Typekit’s other foundry partners, available for desktop sync, web, or both.
    Didn’t I buy those fonts?
    The license for software which included bundled fonts allows those fonts to be used while the software is installed. That means if you uninstall the software, you are no longer licensed to use the fonts. And if you upgrade, you have a new software license which might grant different rights.
    The Adobe Creative Cloud now provides desktop fonts for its users via Typekit. The same set of fonts previously bundled and installed with Adobe applications is now part of Typekit’s Portfolio plan. You are licensed to use the fonts as long as you are a Creative Cloud (or Typekit) subscriber.
    But I can't include these font when I use the Package feature!
    Because desktop fonts from Typekit are provided by subscription, they cannot be copied and moved by the Package feature (or users). However, any recipient of your document who is also using Creative Cloud can use Typekit to sync the necessary fonts if they don’t already have them installed. In many cases, simply creating a PDF of your document with the fonts embedded is a convenient way to send a document for print output or publishing. (See also Packaging files that use synced fonts.)
    Where did my installed fonts go?
    No Adobe product installer or uninstaller will remove existing fonts from your computer. Even fonts installed by previous Adobe products, like the Creative Suite, will remain until you move them, delete them, or erase your hard disk.
