  Thanks for your help.
First of all you need ot find out if your landlord allows you to connect to their network. Is it part of your rental agreement? Do you need a password? Do you need to pay extra for access? Do you need a password from them? As another poster points out your iMac has Wi-Fi built in. All you need to do is turn it on. Open System Preferences -> Network -> Wi-Fi and turn it on. Your apartment's wireless network should appear if it exists. If you need a password to connect you willget that from your aprtment manager IF it's incuded in your rent.
Somehow, though, I get the impression we're not talking about the same thing. Are you moving in with someone who already has the Internet and you want to use their wireless network?

  • How can I make Outlook 2011 keep fonts as I set them?

When I send an email from Outlook 2011, the fonts I have set don't seem to hold.  When a Windows user replies, I can see my original email has lost its formatting with the text showing in a variety of different fonts and sizes.  This makes for an unprofessional looking communication. Using plain text is not an option as we have coloured email signatures as part of our branding.  The signature does seem to hold its fonts.  I have tried the workaround of putting a couple of blank lines with my desired formatting at the beginning of my signature and typing my message in those lines when I send a new email.  This doesn't seem to work all the time though.
This seems to be an old problem still unaddressed by Apple or Windows or whoever is responsible.  Is there another solution which doesn't involve using plug-ins which also seem to have varying results and can carry ads?
If Apple wants to take over the world, they really need to get to grips with what the professional/commercial world needs from an operating system!  I am forced to use a Mac these days for business and while I find some of its attributes cool, whizzy and sometimes useful on the whole, for business use, it falls far, far short of Windows' capabilities and reliability.
    Help!

This has nothing to do with Apple "taking over the world"  It has to do with the fact that you're probably using fonts that are not installed on the recipients computer.  Stick with standard web or Microsoft fonts and you'll be fine.
For further questions regarding Office, you should probalby post your question on Microsoft's own forums for their Mac software since it's their stuff you're asking about:

  • Can I make my new iMac reboot as new?

Hello I recently bought a 27" iMac and started playing with it before transfering files from my old iMac.  Is there a way to reboot my new iMac to the "Welcome" startup information so I can transfer files via their transfer prompts rather than by using Migration Assistant?

Install or Reinstall Lion from Scratch
If possible backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive.
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Erase the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Install button.
Note: You can also re-download the Lion installer by opening the App Store application. Hold down the OPTION key and click on the Purchases icon in the toolbar. You should now see an active Install button to the right of your Lion purchase entry. There are situations in which this will not work. For example, if you are already booted into the Lion you originally purchased with your Apple ID or if an instance of the Lion installer is located anywhere on your computer.

  • Can I make an older iMac go wireless?

I recently was given an older iMac for my 6 yr. old daughter. It does have OSX. However, I am not very apple savy & and I was told that they do not sell the airport for the older models @ the apple store. Our house is wireless. Does anyone have any suggestions? It's a great little computer, but very limited without being able to connect to the internet.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Older iMac   Mac OS X (10.0.x)

Apple discontinued the older AirPort cards a while ago, so they won't be easy to find. You might find one through eBay, but they tend to go at a premium since they are still in demand.
Another option would be to get an external Ethernet wireless access point such as the one from D-Link. Those don't need drivers (unlike USB wireless adapters) so most any one would work as long as it's standard (802.11 b/g). If you shop around (eBay, retailer clearances, etc.) you may be able to pick one up at a decent price.
You might also ask for additional suggestions in the iMac (CRT) forums, which are the forums here specifically for the older iMacs.
    Good luck.

  • How can I make my cd-roms work with osx 10.4.9?

We bought a new mac, but my kids cd-roms -- which we just bought in December -- don't work with it. They say they're Macintosh compatible, but I suspect they just don't work with this new system.
Is there a driver or some other update I can download to make these games work?
    Thanks for your help -
    S.
PS: I don't know if it matters, but the games are from Disney (Cinderella's Dollhouse and Magical Dress-Up) and Vivendi Universal (Barbie Swan Lake & Barbie Fashion Show).

    Hi again,
The games are copyrighted 2001, 2002, 2003 & 2004; I just bought them in December.
This is a classic case of: had an old computer, the new CD-roms were too advanced & wouldn't work. So I bought a new computer, and now the games are not advanced enough!
Although the other posted said I probably had to run them in "classic" - that's not something I should really do, right? Or is it ok to switch my OS back & forth?
When I first realized my problem & went back to the store, they suggested I look for a patch of some sort, that would upgrade these games. Is that realistic? I went to the mattel site & the vivendi site & didn't find anything that looked useful.
Finally, I do want to buy games for my kids. What sort of compatibility do I need to look for in the future? Is there really no way for us to use these games now?
Thanks for your help (and patience, since it takes me so long to get back to these forums

  • How can I make iPhone 4 with 6.0.1 manually sync calendars with 10.8.6 computer?? It worked perfectly with iPhone 6.0.

I am not prepared to install Mountain Lion yet, so I'm running 10.8.6 on my MacBook Pro and can't use iCloud. So I've been syncing my calendars manually with my iPhone 4. But after upgrading the iPhone to 6.0.1 yesterday, they wouldn't sync.  How can I: (a) make this work between 10.8.6 and 6.0.1, or (b) revert to 6.0, or (c) is there another solution? Thanks for any help.

Currently downloading upgrades from the "Software Updates" so hopefully that will help,
Which updates are these?  For iPhoto or for you phone's operating system?
If you plan on upgrading iPhoto it will require a purchase of the iLife 11 disk from a 3rd party retailer like Amazon.com
    or
upgrading your MBP to Mavericks and downloading the latest version, 9.5, from the App Store for free.

Same as the subject line -- can I download a version older than the new one?

Firefox 4 doesn't run on a PowerPC Mac.
Firefox 4 requires at least OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac.

  • Windows 7 beta: can't make hdd icon disappear while in OSX

When using OSX now, on the desktop there is now the hdd icon that includes all the windows 7 files. When I go to finder prefs and uncheck Show hard disks the hdd icon containing the windows 7 files still remains. In order to remove the icon I have to uncheck the finder Pref Show CDs,DVDs and iPods. Don't really want to do that since those things won't appear on the desktop when connected. Any ideas why the hdd icon is being recognized by OSX as a CD, DVD or ipod in the finder prefes?
    lenn

    Hi lenn,
easiest way to not show the Windows Icon while in OSX is to boot into Windows and use the Explorer to rename your Windows partition (the c:) to something starting with a . (point).
That usually prevents the Windows Icon to be shown on your OSX.

  • How can I make the sort default "by date" in iPhoto?

On one of my computers, every time I load an event, it goes to the top of the library and I have to go to "sort/by date" to get it to go to the end or bottom of the library...where I want it.
On my other computers, the default seems to be "by date" normally....
How can I make the default sort option "by date?"
    Thanks.

I am not by that computer now.  But that makes sense.
I combine events that are imported into that iPhoto.  I suppose that would qualify as manually sorting....right?
Still, shouldn't there be a way to overide that and make "date" the default.  That is, if your observation is correct.
    (I'll take a look tomorrow....)
    Thanks!!

If you try to access Spotlight in the morning and it is still indexing, reindex it by following these steps.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2409
Sometimes the index is corrupted, or something it is trying to index is, and it hangs up like that.
Re-indexing may free that up and let it work correctly.

I have Mac air mid 2011 But I can't make mirror screen of my Mac to TV. What to do? Pls help

AirPlay Mirroring requires a second-generation Apple TV or later, OS X 10.8 or better and is supported on the following Mac models: iMac (Mid 2011 or newer), Mac mini (Mid 2011 or newer), MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer), and MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer). You can see which Mac you have and which operating system you are using by selecting 'About this Mac' from the Apple menu in the top left corner of your Mac and selecting the 'More Info' button.
