Can I make my iphoto library a screensaver that rotates repeatedly selecting randomly

I understand how to make one or more pictures my desktop picture.  But what I would like to do is have the pictures in my IPhoto library selected randomly be a screensaver that rotates across the screen when I am not using my computer.  How can I do that?

The available options for SceenSavers are found in the Desktop and Screen Savers Peference Pane. Yes the iPhoto Library is available for use by screensavers, but what exactly is done with them is a matter for the Screensaver options there.

  • Can I make one iphoto library from two time machine back-ups?

    Hi
I have recently purchased a new Mac Book. I previously had two MacBooks, which I backed up with time machine onto two separate external hard drives.
I did a straight transfer of all data from one of these time time machine back-ups to my new laptop. I'd like to migrate select data from the second time machine back-up to my new Mac Book, and I'd like to start by transferring photos.
My laptop has an iphoto library, so I would like to know if I can import select photos from this second time machine back-up, and how do I do that?
    many thanks
    Linda

First you need to restore the second Library from the back up. You need to restore the whole library, you can't just gather bits of it, I'm afraid.
Once that's done you have two Libraries. The easiest way to do what you want is to merge the Libraries with the paid version ($20) of  iPhoto Library Manager This can be set to avoid duplicates. See the Help on it for more.
This is the only way that will get all the versions and all the metadata.
Other than that you'll need to export from one Library and import to the other.

  • I Can't open the iPhoto library. It says that the iPhoto library is locked, on a locked disk or you don't have permission to make changes on it. Can anybody help me?

I Can't open the iPhoto library. It says that the iPhoto library is locked, on a locked disk or you don't have permission to make changes on it. Can anybody help me?

Where is your iPhoto Library located?
    Apply the fix below:
    Fix #1
Try to launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #1, followed by #3 and then #4 as needed.

  • Can i share an iPhoto library between 2 computers ???

Can i share an iPhoto library between 2 computers, it I store my library on a AS drive connected to an AirPort Extrême Base Station ?

    on a AS drive
Do you mean NAS drive? No.
iPhoto needs to have the Library sitting on disk formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Users with the Library sitting on disks otherwise formatted regularly report issues including, but not limited to, importing, saving edits and sharing the photos.
Will it be wireless? That's good for viewing but...
A strong warning: If you're trying to edit the Library (that is, make albums, move photos around, keyword, make books or slideshows etc.) or edit individual photos in it via Wireless be very careful. Dropouts are a common fact of wireless networking, and should one occur while the app is writing to the database then your Library will be damaged. Simply, I would not do this with my Libraries.

  • How can I move my iPhoto Library from my MacBook Pro to my iMac or hard drive??

How can I move my iPhoto Library from my MacBook Pro to my iMac or to my external hard drive? 'Help' is not helping!!

    To move to another machine:
To move an iPhoto Library to a new machine:
Link the two Macs together: there are several ways to do this: Wireless Network,Firewire Target Disk Mode, Ethernet, or even just copy the Library to an external HD and then on to the new machine...
But however you do choose to link the two machines...
Simply copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine.
    Then launch iPhoto. That's it.
This moves photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else.
To move to an external disk:
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.

  • Can I store my iPhoto library on an external hard drive?

My iPhoto library has become very large and I would like to tranfer it over to my hard drive.
Can I copy my iPhoto library over to the drive and then delete it from my system hard disk without loosing my photos? And, when I import photos, where will they be imported to?
    Thanks a lot.

- and this is where new additions to the Library wil go.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.

  • Can't open my iPhoto library. How do I restore it?

A few hours ago my iPhoto crashed and re-started. When it started up again a pop up window told me that the program needs a library to start. When I click "select" library, I can se my old iphoto library (40 GB) in the list, but I'm not able to open it!
Now I wonder what I can do to restore my pictures. I guess my photos are stored somewhere in my computer, and if I only could find where that is, I could make a new library and import the pictures manually.
Does anyone know what to do?

Download and run Find Any File to search for a file with "AlbumData.xml" in the file name. This is a file common to all versions of  iPhoto libraries.   FAF can search areas that Spotlight can't like invisible folders, system folders and packages. If there's a library hiding somewhere on your hard drive FAF will find it.

  • Trying to make a iPhoto Library on my external hard drive but I get "the library could not be opened because the file system of the library's volume is unsupported.

Trying to make a iPhoto Library on my external hard drive but I get "the library could not be opened because the file system of the library's volume is unsupported."  I reformatted my hard drive to ExFAT because I want to be able to use it on PC and MAC.
    iOS: 10.10.1
    Mac Book Air
External: WD 500 GB recently reformatted (no files on it currently)

The iPhoto library must only be on a volume formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) - it can not be on any other format drive

  • I can't move my iphoto library to an extrenal

I can't move my iphoto library to an extrenal  drive, it says that either I don't have premmission or the drive is locked. I have checked both but they seem to be alright.  Iphotos is close when I try to move the library. What am I doning wrong.

I'm reading this post in the iPhoto for iOS forum. You might get more help in the iPhoto for Mac forum.
First make sure iphoto is not running. Seems like when I've seen the "Do not have permissions" warning I could make a selection to type in my administrators password to allow the copy to proceed. Once you've copied the Libray to your hard drive you can choose that library by holding down the option, I think, key whe you start iPhoto.

  • Can I move the iPhoto library to my iDisk

    - Can I move the iPhoto library to my iDisk and by doing so being able to share it between several computers (only one editing at the same time is OK.
Sharing means adding, editing, deleting ... photos.
    - if yes can I use it with the local copy mode of iDisk?

I doubt very much that you'd be able to access the library at any speed fast enough to make it viable solution. iDisk access is way too slow to make using a library on it possible.
And if you did, using the local iDisk copy and then have another computer access the actual iDisk version would only mess up the library when they were synced because you can't just file sync libraries. There are database files whose contents must be updated and there are not syncing applications that can do that. It would be the kiss of death for the library.
If you want to share a library between multiple computers on a LAN add an external FW hard drive to one of the Macs and locate the library there as Apple suggests: iPhoto: Sharing libraries among multiple users. Although written for uses on one computer it will work with multiple computers on a LAN that can log onto the host computer.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • How can I rebuild my iphoto library from backup

Can I rebuild my iphoto library from the Time Machine backup?
Somehow the iPHoto libary structure(?), if that's the word, has gotten corrupted.
There phtos are still these, in their year/month/day folders, but though iPhoto
opens it does not show Events, Slideshow, etc.
I found a Support page  that tell you how to re-build the library, but
    it didn't work.
It just occurred to me that the Time Machine back up should contain the 'library'.
Is so, how do I access it and will it open the iPhoto library intact with Events, Slideshows,
    etc.?
    Thanks,
    Hal

You don't rebuild a library from a backup, you replace the library with the backup:
If you'll describe what happend when you tried rebuilding the library with iPhoto maybe we can offer another possible fix like try using iPLM as Larry suggested.

  • How can I access my iPhoto library folder?

My hard drive recently had to be replaced, and when they replaced it, they updated to OSx 10.9. I had not backed up my photos before my hard drive crashed, but they backed up all my files for me. I went to open my iphoto library from the backup files and as a new (to me) version of iphoto 11 opened, I got a message saying that it had to update the photos in my library in order for them to be compatible with this version of iPhoto and that after updating them, I'd no longer be able to read them on an older version of iphoto. I clicked ok. It only imported 9 photos (out of several thousand). I went to finder and tried to open the iphoto library folder (which contains the library file and the cache, etc.), but the folder will not open. Instead, when I click to open the library folder, it brings up iphoto, as though to indicate that my library is there. Did I somehow unknowingly overwrite my library or something?? Any ideas why I can't access my iphoto library? Are my photos gone?
I'm stupid so I don't have copies of the photos anywhere else. I don't have Time Machine or anything. Did I irreversibly screw up??

I didn't think to check what photos were there or what the library size was before trying to import at first. How do I restore my backup of the iphoto library? (sorry if that's a stupid question). I checked in the Masters folder and only saw a few of my photos (the same ones that were imported to iphoto).
I definitely know it was a mistake not to have a backup of the photos. It'll be the first thing I do if I can get them back. The mistake I was referring to in my initial post was clicking "ok" when it asked to update---but from what you're saying it sounds like that wouldn't have deleted anything.
I'm thinking maybe the backup is not complete (even though I asked the tech people 5 times if it was!), because I checked the imovie events folder, and it's also empty (and it definitely shouldn't be)! If this turns out to be the case, I may have to go back to the repair place to see if they can still pull files off.

  • How can I move my iPhoto Library from one Mac to another without losing the comments on the individual photos in the process?

How can I move my iPhoto Library from one Mac to another without losing the comments on the individual photos in the process? The source Macbook (OS 10.4.11 and iPhoto 6.0.6 (3.2.2.)) is with my husband in Germany, the target MacBook Pro (OS 10.8.5, iPhoto 11) is with me in Japan. Thanks for your help.

I copied the iPhoto Library to a CD and from there to the new MacBook
If you copied the library to the CD via the Finder it would be no different than the methods Terence suggested.  If you used the Share ➙ Burn menu option from inside iDVD you'll get a mini library that has to be accessed from the open library and the events/alubums copied into the destination library.  Not the same as the other methods.
The Share ➙ Burn method is no longer supported with iPhoto 9 and later.

  • I own a MacBook Pro and an iMac. How can I copy my iPhoto library from my MacBook to the iMac?

I own a 13" MacBook Pro and a 27" iMac and I have different iPhoto libraries for each one of them.
How can I copy the iPhoto library from the MacBook to the iMac without losing the pictures I have on the iMac library?
Is it possible to merge the libraries?
Can I do this without using an external HDD? (e.g. connecting them through an ethernet cable?)
    Thanks for your help!

    1. By eirher a: renaming one of the Libraries or b: copying them to another folder
    2. If you have Aperture 3.3 or later and iPhoto 9.3 or later you can merge libraries with Aperture.
Otherwise the only way to merge Libraries is with the paid ($20) version of iPhoto Library Manager
    3. Yes.
