Can I make Oracle/Microsoft Odbc connection without TNS service???

Hi All,
I want to make ADODB connection to oracle 10g database. For this currently I am using odbc connection, which requires TNS service setup in my pc. Hence I need to install Oracle client on my pc as well. Which requires license.
So is there any alternative, with which I can make my ADODB connection without TNS service implementation. Or any inputs on this will do for me. Only the thing is i need some freeware with which i can do this.

Well I think you might have landed in the wrong forum.
This forum is for the Oracle Call Interface (OCI) which is a C programming interface to Oracle.
Your question doesn't look to be about that unless I am misreading it.
Perhaps you are looking for the Oracle Data Access Components (ODAC) downloads?
These include client software in addition to the various data access components on Windows.

If you have Pages you can create customs pages for your book as TD suggested. If you have Pages from iWork 09 or 11 this app will add 80 or so additional frames to those offered: Frames and Strokes Installer. Don't use it on the latest Pages version, however.
This tutorial shows how to create a custom page with the theme's background: iP11 - Creating a Custom Page, with the Theme's Background for an iPhoto Book. Once the page is complete to get it into iPhoto as a jpeg file follow these steps:
Here's how to get any file into iPhoto as a jpeg file:
1 - open the file in any application that will open it.
2 - type Command+P to start the print process.
3 - click on the PDF button and select "Save PDF to iPhoto".
NOTE: If you don't have any of those options go to Toad's Cellar and download these two files:
Save PDF to iPhoto 200 DPI.workflow.zip
Save PDF to iPhoto 300 DPI.workflow.zip
Unzip the files and place in the HD/Library/PDF Services folder and reboot.
4 - select either of the files above (300 dip is used for photos to be included in a book that will be ordered).
5 - in the window that comes up enter an album name or select an existing album and hit the Continue button.
That will create a 200 or 300 dpi jpeg file of the item being printed and import it into iPhoto. For books to be printed choose 300 dpi.

I went to the PAM in the SAP Marketplace to see if SAP GRC AC 5.3 could connect to SAP R/3 4.7 Enterprise but I can't see all the "Add-On Product Version for...", it's cut off.
Can SAP GRC AC 5.3 connect without any problem with SAP R/3 4.7 Enterprise?
If I can't is there any proof about it? I have to show it to a client.

GRC AC 5.3 works perfectly fine with SAP's R/3 4.6c, mySAP ERP 4.7 and ECC systems. In fact we have two 4.7 Enterprise systems connected to GRC AC 5.3 system.
You can get the details of supported SAP ERP systems under prerequisite section of Info page of GRC AC 5.3 , it can be accessed on marketplace at -
Downloads-->Installations and Upgrades - Entry by Application Group > SAP Solutions for Governance, Risk, and Compliance>SAP GRC Access Control>SAP GRC ACCESS CONTROL>SAP GRC ACCESS CONTROL 5.3
Just ensure to have proper BASIS and ABAP support pack level as mentioned in prerequisites.

Take a look in your purchase history and see if there has really been a purchase.

No, and I dont think it ever will, since it's a Java application and the standard for Java is JDBC.
If you already have an ODBC connection in place, probably you have also a TNS file somewhere and an environment variable pointing to it, so to connect SQLDeveloper you only need to select the TNS connection type and choose your target database from the ones defined in the TNS file.

How to install Oracle Lite ODBC driver without connecting the mobile server

My Oracle Lite version is 10g R3.
I am using branch office version application.
I wanted to connect oracle client database(.odb file) via Lite DSN in a windows XP machine without installing the client in that device.
Some of my users wanted to access the client database from backend which requires a DSN entry in that device.Oracle Lite ODBC gets registered in the device only when we do a setup from the mobile server or if Oracle 10g Lite MDK is installed.
I do not want either of this to be done in my user PC. I wanted a ODBC utility which will register oracle Lite ODBC Driver (Normal & Cleint) in the user PC so that i can manually create and configure the DSN.
Does anyone have a solution for this?

Oracle/Microsoft ODBC question

I got in a situation where I cannot launch an application that's using Microsoft ODBC for Oracle driver after I installed an application that uses Oracle in Orahome90 driver.
The application that uses Microsoft driver will now display 'Connection to the database failed' after the other app (using Oracle in Orahome 9 driver) is installed.
Is there any known contention between the two drivers?
In searching for an answer, I've stumbled on an article that indicated that there are limitations on the current version of Microsoft ODBC Driver and OLE DB Provider for Oracle - aside from reading some replies in this forum that microsoft driver is not compatible with Oracle 9i... however, I am not sure if this is indeed the reason why I can't get the app (Microsoft driver) to launch... thoughts?
Next question, why am I able to launch the application that's using Microsoft driver at first?
Is there something I can do to make both this application (using different ODBC drivers) to run in my XP workstation?
Please advise.

If you only have one copy of the 9i client installed, then you don't have multiple Oracle Homes.
I would strongly advise you to move toward using the Oracle driver rather than the Microsoft driver on 9i clients. It may be possible to use the Microsoft driver, but it may cause obscure problems down the line. If changing drivers is an option, you're much better off doing so.

i have created a user with sysdba and other privileges and i am able to login into database as well.
but when i try to run the UPK ( server) installer and select the ORacle database i am getting following error after entering user name and password.

MSDAORA: there was an error logging into oracle
Error: oracle client and networking components were not found.
{Microsoft ODBC for Oracle} there was an error logging into oracle .

Can Java make server side socket connections?

I plan on placing a java file (application or applet I don't know) on a website and have my application connect to the java file and tell it to connect to another host (outside of the website's domain) and send and receive data. Is this possible? If not why? If so, then should it be an applet or an application? Would I need to have it listen on a specific port or what?

Or you can sign the applet with a digital signature, and if the end user trusts the certificate, and trusts you they can give your applet permissions that way.
Java Security, however, is not something that can be covered in one post on the forums.
You should probably look for some online tutorials/documentation or get a good book.

We need a better description of what you bought. "Mac 5" doesn't ring a bell with me and I've been her a long time. Do you mean "iMac G5?"
If so, the latest versions of SilverLight require a Mac with an Intel processor--the G5 iMac is not an Intel-based computer so it will not install.
If it's a really a G5, neither can it run OS10.6 as shown in your equipment line. 10.5.8 is as high as it can go.

Call the seller and get the gray system install/restore disks that originally shipped with that computer, They are as much a part of the computer and the hard drive, and needed for resetting the password. I consider any used Mac sold without tose disk to be missing a part and therefore worth much less money.
So---right now we're fighting conflicting info. Please do "About this Mac" from your Apple menu and post what is says about the processor and the OS version. If the processor description includes the word "Intel," you have a much newer Mac than the pre-2006 iMacs this forum covers and should repost in the forumfor newer iMacs here:
