CAN I MANUALLY TURN OFF IPHONE BY OTHER MEANS?

THE TOP RESET BUTTON ON MY PHONE IS EITHER JAMMED OR DUSFUNCTIONAL, CAN ANYONE TELL ME A WAY TO TURN MY PHONE OFF WITHOUT HAVING TO HOLD THAT DOWN?
PLEASE HELP ME WITH THIS, ITS IMPORTANT THAT I BE ABLE TO DO THIS!

There is a way to put the iphone in "Sleep", or "standby" mode by going into settings and turning auto lock on.
After a minute, the phone will lock and go into sleep mode.
- You can still make and receive calls as well.
- This lasts for 250 hours on your battery just in sleep mode.

Are you asking if the phone logs when someone mutes it? No, I don't believe so. Or, are you asking if audio recording apps still record when the phone is muted? Why don't you use the included VoiceMemo app and test it?

You can try a hard reset by holding down the home button and the lock button at the same time until the apple appears. If that doesn't work I think you should definitely go into an apple store.

That file could be set as a Launch Agent or Daemon in your ~/Library or /Library, You could try to look for it or Safeboot your computer and then empty the trash. I just upgraded my iPhone 5 to iOS 7 and can I longer turn off apps to conserve battery. (Double-tap home, touch & hold on the app to close and then touch the X to close it). I just end up in the app I want to close. Has anyone else figured out how to do this?

While I know there are phones that can do this, they really are not powered "off" - they are more in a hybernation state. However, the iPhone has never worked that way. Off on an iPhone means truly powered off - nothing is still running so there is no minimal function left ticking away to wake up the phone and sound the alarm.

You need to sync your iPhone contacts with the Address Book on your Mac, which is as designed and intended.
Before the first sync for this data, enter one contact in the Address Book on your Mac. Make this contact up if needed, which can be deleted later. This will provide a merge prompt with the first sync for this data, which you want to select.
Syncing contacts with the Address Book is selected under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes.
The same applies before syncing calendar events with iCal if you aren't using iCal on your Mac for calendar events.

I have an iPhone 4 that sometimes will loose wifi connection. Cellular data is turned off and all data is restricted to wifi only. Will work for a while and then load slowly or not at all. Have to manually turn off wifi and then turn back on to get it to work again. After a while this process keeps happening. All other devices in the home including PS3, Wii, and my other iPhone 3GS do not have any issues. Only the IPhone 4 has this disconnecting issues or totally does not detect the wifi at all sometimes. Is this on all WiFi networks, or only your home network? If it's the home network try rebooting your router by turning it off for a few seconds. In either case go to Settings/General/Reset - Reset network settings. You will not lose any data, but will have to re-enter your WiFi encryption passcodes.

At first , after I followed instruction to reboot for several times as each time the Apple logo did not appear at all. So gave up. But half an hr or so later, turn it on to check, it seems back to normal once again.

The lock button on my phone has stopped working and I am wondering if there is another way to turn off iPhone 5 without using that button.

Once Assistive Touch is turned on:
Tap the dark circle to open the Assistive Touch menu, then tap "Device" and tap and hold the Lock Screen icon. This will bring up the iPhone's Power-Off slider.

Press and hold the 'keyboard' button at the bottom right of the keyboard and after a second or two a popup should appear - tap 'Dock' on that and it should move back to the bottom
