Can I mark multiple edit points during live video capture

I'm scheduled to provide edited video clips immediately following a live event coverage. I know I can capture live signal via uncontrollable source, but how can I mark edit points on the fly for quick turnaround edits once the event is complete?
I'm using a new 2011 MBP 17" i7, 8GB RAM, SSD and FCP Studio 3, connected to firewire feed from another device being fed by the camera operator.

I took Cut Notes with me on my wife's iPad to the shoot this morning and was thrilled with the speed and ease of use that got my project completed, selected clips edited and posted and the customer happy before leaving the venue.

Someone could give you better and more exact information but you didn't include the model number of your computer. But I can give you a pretty generic answer. At the top of this webpage you should see Product Support. Click on Laptops and then select which model of Toshiba computer you own, ie Satellite, Tecra, etc. Finally type in the model number of your computer. Select the exact model number and click the red Go button to the right. Click the Downloads tab and look thru the different drivers for this computer. Make sure that the new video driver is newer and has a higher version number than your current video driver. If it does, click the Download button, click the Run button and let it do the installation. Afterwards, reboot the computer so that the latest drivers are fully installed. Try again with that game.

How to display live video captured by a webcam on another computer?

I am now writing a program to display live video captured by a webcam on another computer which is in the same network and I need to make it display on a applet page.
I have already figured out how to capture live video on my own computer and display it on applet.(thank for people in Java forum). But for a webcam which located on another computer in the same network,what should I do? what technique do I need to achieve that?

Can I Edit Effects During Live Playback?

Every time I try to edit effects, playback stops. Is it possible to edit effects during playback to get a realtime preview of what's going on? Stuff like color correction, HSV, brightness and contrast, etc. Thanks!

Not in FCP, the video will stop if a filter or attribute is altered.
However you can do this in Motion, and in most cases it does a much better job at it as well.

How can we add multiple editable region in template

Hi,
My issue is when I am going to create a new template I want to add multiple editable region in template and I want to use those editable region per page wise so that in page editor I will add different text for each page for those editable region.
I can use incontxt editor to change those area for different pages although is it possible to use online editor to add different text for different pages.
I also have a plan to solve the issue ... that is also not working.
Plan is .. if we can use tag (not the default one in template), want to use different tag like {tag_headding},{tag_sidebarcontent} in template so that we can use those tag in template and fill the field in the page online editor, so when differnt page we will create we will fill those field for those tag and that will show in the front view of the site.
Please help me. I am really stuck on this issue.

Hi Projjwal,
Yes, if you look at many of the commercial BC templates available the way they are getting around it is with Content Holders and multiple templates.
Now I know you will say that multiple templates is high maintenance ..... not if you use Content holders for both recurring content and unique content.
Think of Conent Holders as 'Includes' ... I have been doing it this way with templates that I build from scratch as well. Easier than you think.
And that way the client can change content such as footer information or whatever that appears on all pages without editing the template itself.
Only drawback is that if you are using Design View in Dreamweaver the content holders don't render. But other than that Content Holders are awesome.

Show image at certain points during embedded video?

Hi all,
Just before deployment, we have had a change request :-)
I have slides with embedded videos, and these videos pause the slide until the video ends, the moves onto the next slide. During the videos, we want certain images to appear in the slide, so, for example after 2:20 we would like an image to appear in a box in the slide itself. Clearly I cant use the function of "appear after specific time", as the slide itlsef is only a few seconds long, but the video inside is over 5 minutes. I have played around with an advanced action using cpInfoElapsedTimeMS, but this displays the entire projects timeline and not the individual slides embedded movie time. Is it possible to access the time in which the embedded video has been playing and hence make an image visible based upon that?

Hi Tristan,
You can do this in Captivate 5.
You need to insert the video this way: Video > Insert Slide Video. Then you get the option to increase this slide duration to match that of video or even distribute this video on multiple slides (if the video is longer than your current slide). In either case, the total duration of slide(s) and video will match here. Captivate will also ensue that now this video plays synchronous with your slide (s). Something like, 10th sec of video will match the 10th sec of slide always if you start the video from the slide beginning.
Once you reach this stage you can use "appear after specific time" to adjust your images and now these will match your video.

Live video capture while playing back another video track?

Is it possible to capture live video while another video track is being played back? I would like to do this for multitrack video recording of music: a) record a video track, then b) record a second video track while listening to/watching the first. Exactly like multitrack recording of audio as in Garage Band, but with video.

I'm not too familiar with video editing (yet), so please forgive me if I've misunderstood your suggestions. I think what I'm talking about would have to be done post (after shooting multiple video tracks?), and couldn't be done with video switching (live switching between multiple video feeds?). What it boils down to in my mind is precise synchronization of a new capture with something pre-recorded (be it audio or video). If no software can do this (yet), perhaps there's a way to do it with additional hardware, for example playing video on a monitor while simultaneously recording with a camera, assuming the devices can be synchronized somehow?

1080p live video capture from camcorder to MacBook

Is there a device or adapter that will connect the 1080p from a video camcorder's HDMI out to a MacBook's thunderbolt or usb port with QuickTime receiving the camcorder's video and audio when "New Movie Recording" is selected from that application?
Or more succinctly, can I turn my 1080p camcorder into a webcam?
Camcorders have better image quality than webcams (okay, maybe not necessarily JVC, but Canon's do) and more features, such as 38x zoom. And my MacBook has a much nicer and bigger screen than that little LCD fold-out piece all camcorders have. So combining the superior video capture of the camcorder with the superior display capability of the MacBook along with the advantage of live recording directly to the MacBook's harddrive (no intermediate SD card file transfer step from device to device) would result in an enhanced video capturing experience. All that is required is some adapter that will take HDMI from the camera and translate it into something the MacBook will see as a webcam (usb or thunderbolt). So where do I find such an adapter?

What brand and model is your camcorder?
From this we can determine what format it outputs in, because you capture with the output format from your camcorder. You then, after editing, use PRE to Share your project as MPEG2.
These are the import video sources supported by PRE:
If your camcorder manual is telling you that it outputs MPEG2 (this is a standard definition format) try the 'DVD Camcorder or PC DVD Drive' format.

Live Video Capture

When doing live video cpature , if you have your
dataSource (the name and format of the videoCapture card) , is it enough to just create a player after that with the following line :
player3 = Manager.createPlayer(dataSourceCurrent);
or do I have to use medialocator or URL or anything else?
If so how do you set the mediaLocator to a datasource.
I know you can set it to a string or URL but how about a datasource?

The StreamDataSource is something a personal implementation from someone else, extending the PullDataSource.
As long as your dataSourceCurrent is by some means a DataSource/related to the DataSource (there is a diagram in the JMF API guide, showing the relations) ...

Can I save multiple edits of the same photo?

I'd like to take one photo and edit it several different times and save a copy of each edit. Is this possible?

Duplicate the photo first. (Photos -> Duplicate). This means that you will have multiple copies of the master as well as the edited version.
If you use versions like this often and wish to have only one master then you can do this with Aperture.

How can I do multiple edits, cleansing against data

We are processing outside data and we want to edit and cleanse the data prior to loading to ensure the data is good and follows normal data referential integrity. We are loading the source data to a SQL Server Table. Can I then read this data and bounce
up against our database to ensure the data is clean? Some of the cleansing would entail table joins. So do I do this through an OLE DB Command to our application tables? And can I use raw SQL with the parameters from each row of the outside data in order to
do the table lookups to our application database? And how do I do that using OLE DB Command?

bear in mind it is an expensive operation so it may take a long time and resources.

How can i mark user defined points in amplitude versus frequency graph?

i have an array of frequencies and amplitudes . i need these values to be displayed on x-axis frequency values and y axis amplitude values . one fixed default plot should be continuously visible in this graph and then i wish to mark few user defined points in the same graph, save these two plots in the same graph and then take a print out of the graph.
Kindly help this is regarding my master of engineering project where i am trying to biuld an audiometer (for testing hearing sensitivity) and i am going to interface labview with ardiuno micrcontroller and my hardware devices.

Can you warp using edit points?

Hi all.
What I want to do is transform a clip using bezier handles. I can use 4 corner but that won't give me a curve, which is what I need.
Basically, I need to comp one clip onto an object with a curved surface in another.
Can this be done in Motion2?

You can do this in iMovie 11 by using the Side By Side Feature.
Go to iMovie/Preferences and make sure the Advanced Tools are enabled. Then drag the first clip to your project. Drag the second clip to your project and drop it on the first clip where you want it to start. Then, a popup menu will appear. Choose Side By Side.
