Can I mark photos as duplicates without importing?

Scenario:
I switched to a new Aperture library at the start of 2014.  My old library contains the years 2007 through 2013 and it was just getting too big for my taste.
I have a card in my primary P&S camera that has 2013 photos on it, as well as all current photos for 2014.  I do not ever delete photos from SD cards, and I never retire a card until it is full and fully backed-up.  So, with my switch to a new Aperture library, I have a bunch of photos that show up in the import screen because the new library thinks they are new and not duplicates (which is true for this library).
Is there a way to mark these old photos as imported (or duplicate) so that they stop showing up on the import screen?  Is there a way to bring over the metadata for these photos/camera combo from the old Aperture library?  Do I need to import them all into my new library and then simply delete them?

Is there a way to mark these old photos as imported (or duplicate) so that they stop showing up on the import screen?
No, Aperture will only show photos as imported, that are in your Aperture library.
If you only want to import the new photos, use the camera to flag the new photos on the card, if your camera supports this.
Then you can exclude the photos, that have not been flagged in the camera.
I wonder, why you want to split your libraries. Size should not be an obstacle. Avoiding duplicates would really be easier if you continued to use just one Aperture library. It also makes it easier to search all your photos at once. Aperture cannot search or browse several libraries simultaniously, or create books, slideshows, or other products using photos from more than one library.
It is meant for managing related photos in one huge library.

Plug it back in and restore it from the backup that is made everytime you sync your phone. iPhone forums are here:

Yes. You want to add photos from a folder on the desktop to an existing iWeb album page? Just bring up the page in iWeb and drag the photo into the group of thumbnails that are displayed on the page and move it to where you want it locate

  • Import photos into iPhoto without importing RAW files....

    Hello,
I'm new to Automator, but I've had enough experience with Quickeys to understand how to build a sequence/workflow.
What I'm trying to do is find some way to download all photos from my camera EXCEPT RAW files. I shoot jpeg&raw, and it takes so long to get all the RAW files downloaded that my wife starts complaining. I think it would be a great preference on iPhoto, but until then...
I don't see any action for iPhoto or Image Capture to allow selective imports. I know with the Image Capture app you can delete selected files without importing them. Does anyone have an idea of how this can be done? I don't mind getting dirty with Applescript if that's the only way.
Thank you so much in advance,
    kent

    Allen,
Your camera is not supported with RAW images according to this list on the Apple site: http://www.apple.com/macosx/upgrade/cameras.html
However, that list is apparently not up to date as of Nov 2 because of the OS X 10.4.3 update. I saw a post somewhere that the Canon Digital Rebel XT was added by 10.4.3. However, it appears from your profile that you already have 10.4.3 so maybe that camera wasn't added yet.
The only thing you can do is import them using your camera's software and then convert to JPEG to import into iPhoto. iPhoto won't be able to handle the RAW images until Apple adds support for your camera to iPhoto.

  • When importing my photos from iPhone i see all my photos as duplicates before importing

while trying to import my photos from my iPhone6 to macbook pro using iPhoto i see my pictures as duplicates before importing this the first time i get this problem

    gail from maine wrote:
    Hey Larry,
I have noticed this when I import my photos as well. But I was thinking that for me, maybe it is because I also import my Photo Stream automatically, so when I'm importing my camera roll, they might have already been imported automatically from the Photo Stream?
Is that why I would be getting the duplicates when I import?
    Thanks,
    GB
Different problem - OP sees duplicates in the import window - you are importing twice (once automatically form PhotoStream and a second time by connecting the camera) - importing a photo twice will always give you two copies - do one or the other - not both

  • Can I recover photos lost during an import error

I was importing my photos from a memory stick and an unexpected error occured quiting iphoto. I had the import set to delete from memory stick after transfer. Now my first 20 pictures are missing I can't find them in the iphoto folder/ library on the computer or on the memory stick. Is there some way I can recover these photos of my childs first day of school?

MediaRECOVER will do the job for you. You can download and run it in demo mode (it will allow 1 image to be recovered in demo mode) to see all of the photos that it can find to recover before you commit to purchase. I recovered 196 files from a card that I had intentionally deleted and then discovered that I shouldn't have.
Hope this has been of some help. Good luck.

  • Importing new photos with Iphoto6 without importing duplicates

In IPhoto 5 when I imported from the Ultra II reader a dialogue box appeared allowing me to say don't import duplicates. With IPhoto 6 this box doesn't appear. Or can I make it appear by clicking on something?

    Manning:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. It should give you that option. Try loading some known duplicates from the desktop and see if you get that message. Some would not get the message when coming direct from the camera but would when coming from the HD.
Be sure to repair disk permission (after every software install or update) and see if that will help. You can try downloading the iPhoto 6.0.5 updater (if you're at 6.0.5 or 6.0.4 already) and re-install it. If you're already at 6.0.5 then you need to go to the HD/Library/Receipts and delete the iPhoto_605.pkg file before running the installer. Again repair disk permissions afterward.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.

  • Can't share photos to facebook without adding sync...

    Brand new Nokia Lumia 620.
I want to be able to share photos directly to facebook, but when I add a facebook account, it wants to automatically sync my 50+ albums and there doesn't appear to be anyway of stopping this.  I DON'T want my FB albums synced so how can I stop this?  (And WHY did Nokia even do this in the first place, not everybody wants to do this!)
Is there any other way of being able to share directly to fb without having to add it as a synced account?
    Thanks.

I would reset the iPad by turning it off (holding the lock button and sliding the red slider), and turn it on again. If that doesn't work, I would contact the developers of the Facebook app by going to the app store, finding the page for the app and click the report problem button. Hope that helps!

  • How can I stack photos in E12 without clicking every single pair/group?

Stacking pics requires a click for every darn pair/group of pics. Surely E12 can spot pairs of JPEG/RAW files and just stack them automatically? If so HOW?

In Edit> Preferences> Camera / Card Reader you can set 'automatically suggest stacks' for the initial import.
For stuff already in the Organizer use Find> Br Visual Searching> Visually similar ... Once it's finished doing its thing then they are fairly easy to stack.

  • Can't add photos to ipod without losing the ones that are already on it

I have a nano (bought about 1 year ago) so am not sure of the generation. I was able to add photos before, but when I tried to add more this morning it erased all the old ones and will only load the current ones. How can I keep all my photos without having them erase everytime I add new ones?
    Thanks
    ruez

you need to have the same computer the same folder where you put your pictures like a folder on your Desktop on a mac or a pc.
But if you wan't to have your pictures on your iPod cache folder select the checkbox below, it's Include Full resolution photos, by clicking that, the photos you'll put on your iPod will have a copy on a folder of your iPod i.e.
    When using win xp:
Find your iPod on my computer: "Steve's iPod"-> open it-> go to Photos-> Full Resolution-> then continue opening folders (it's safe) until you see your Photo copies.
It's a great way of moving it from another computer, like just using copy, cut, paste

  • I can't find photos that were successfully imported! Is there anything I can do?

I got the successfully imported message and so then opted to delete the photos from my camera.
However, then when I went back into Iphoto, there were no sign of the pictures!
I also followed troubleshooting advice on this forum and looked in the Pictures > Iphoto Library > show contents and there is no Import/Importing folder. It did say that my start-up disk was full, so I was simultaneously backing up old photos on my harddrive.
    I have a Macbook Pro, 10.6.8
    Please help!

  • Can I save photos to iCloud without taking up space on my phone??

I was wondering if the new iCloud features will allow me to store my photos on the server instead of on my phone.
By now, many of us must have an excessive amount of photos on our devices.  It would be nice if I could 'archive' or 'keep on server' my photos from 2010 that I rarely access... but still have the ability to download them if I were so inclined.  I am using GB upon GB in pictures and have no space for movies and music at this point.
Is anything like this possible?  what about with iOS 8 and the new iCloud features?
I know if I create a stream it gives me the ability to download the whole thing.
    Any tips/direction would be appreciated....

The best tip I can give you is to export ALL of your photos to your computer, then store them indefinitely on a portable HD and/or thumb drive as a backup.
You will get the full resolution photo when you do the export.   The one that gets copied to your photostream is a compressed version.
Don't have a computer?    Use a cloud-based storage service such as dropbox and pay for the extra storage if you exceed 5GB.
iCloud is an all-or-nothing backup service.   You can't just save photos to your iCloud... it doesn't work that way, yet.

  • Can I delete photos from iPhoto after importing them to an external hard drive?

For a while my family has been experiencing extreme slowness on our early 2008 iMac running OS X Lion.  We tried many different ways to speed it up.  I recently bought a new external hard-drive and was going to put some of our media on the hard-drive.  Is it possible that I would be able to put my photos, videos, and music onto the hard-drive and delete them from my Mac to possibly speed it up.  Also is there is any other possible way to speed it up?

Moving the iPhoto library is safe and simple - quit iPhoto and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity to the external drive - depress the option key and launch iPhoto using the "select library" option to point to the new location on the external drive - fully test it and then trash the old library on the internal drive (test one more time prior to emptying the trash)
And be sure that the External drive is formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) (iPhoto does not work with drives with other formats) and that it is always available prior to launching iPhoto
And backup soon and often - having your iPhoto library on an external drive is not a backup and if you are using Time Machine you need to check and be sure that TM is backing up your external drive

  • Flash CS6 cant open play SWF files without importing and destroying them, how can I get around this?

Flash CS6 can't open play SWF files without importing and destroying them, how can I get around this?
I'm just trying to preview an swf file in flash like I have with all previous versions.

What if my SWF loads external content from an online server?
Not only does the current flash player prohibit such activity, it doesn't even pop open an error anymore saying there was an error connecting to an online source.
Normally, I would simply drag the SWF into Flash and all connections would go through.  I could see traces, errors, and experience no issues.
Now I can't even do that.  So what then?  You have crippled a fundamental use of the program, but THANK GOD we have that deco brush that nobody asked for.
And for the record, the nature of my work benefits from not necessarily allowing the Flash Player to connect to online content.  The error it pops up?  That's simply another method of error checking that I require.  Updating the Flash Player options is not an option.
Why would you even remove this key feature from Flash anyways?  It's been there for years ... has the ratio of people importing SWFs (a rather useless gesture in an increasing OOP world) really outweighed the people using Flash as a testing environment that much?
