Can I merge 2 groups in Address Book?

Hello,
Running Mac OSX Snow Leopard. My Address Book app is syncing fine with an Exchange 2007 server, but now I've got 2 Address Book groups on my machine...one for the Exchange account and another called 'On My Mac'. They are almost identical...so when I view 'All Contacts' everything is duplicated...quite confusing.
Can I merge my 'On My Mac' group into the Exchange group?
Thanks!
Craig

Not that I know of. I am in the same situation. If you want to see just the contacts on your Mac, click on the "on your Mac" item or if you want to see just your exchange contacts, click there. That's what I do. Works fine.

  • How can I get smart group in address book to email?

    Hi
I'm trying to send an email out to a smart group I created which has about 150 members.  I right click send email while in the address book.  The group ends up in the 'To:' field.  I do a 'cmd A' to select all and move them to the 'bcc' field.  I put my email address in the 'To' field.  I create the subject line and body text which containes a url and an image with a url link.
When I press send it immediately moves to my outbox and sits there with no activity showing in the MAIL ACTIVITY preview pane.... I've left it for quite a while thinking it might take a while but nothing changes.
When I send it to my self only it works.   I've tried taking a smaller group last names A-C 30 recipients and it does the same thing.
Would appreciate some help if you have had the same problem or maybe know what I've done wrong.  Oh, I've also tried it sending it out on me.com and shaw.ca email accounts...
    Thanks

If you want to "send an email" to the group, you need to get the group into your email client's Contacts first...
Select your Group > Select All

    Importing and exporting vCards
A vCard, or "virtual address card," is a standard method of exchanging data between applications. Address Book can create and read vCards, so if you have another application that also works with the vCard format, you can import or export addresses as vCards.
Also, you can send your own card to other people in vCard format. They can use the vCard to add your information to their address books.
You can also use vCards to add addresses to the Contacts list on your iPod.
To create a vCard, drag an address card out of the Address Book window.
To add someone else's vCard to your address book, drag it into the Address Book window.
To create a single vCard with multiple entries, drag more than one card out of the Address Book window.
To create multiple vCards at the same time, hold the Option key when dragging multiple cards out of the Address Book window.
You can also work with vCards using commands in the File menu.
Address Book also supports Lightweight Directory Interchange Format (LDIF). LDIF is an ASCII file format used to exchange information and enable synchronization of that information between Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) servers. You can't export information from Address Book in LDIF format; you can only import it. Address Book can import and export vCards.
To determine the format of a document, select the document and choose File > Get Info. The format, or kind of document, is listed at the top.
If another application won't accept vCards in the default 3.0 format, try changing the format to 2.1 in the vCard pane of Address Book Preferences, and send the vCard again.

  • How can I form a group in address book. I need to transfer a large number of emails from an excel spread sheet to form a group to send emails to.

I need to transfer a large number of emails from an excel spread sheet to form a group to send emails to. I can either use address book or transfer them to BTYahoo contacts and send from there.

Hello, if you have the font that Photoshop is supposed to use to write the barcode, and each image is also listed in the spreadsheet, you can use the little known feature called variables: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/photoshop/cs/using/WSfd1234e1c4b69f30ea53e41001031ab64-7417a.h tml

  • Do mail merge with group from address book or other file?

Is there a way to have Mail do a merge with a spreadsheet, a Filemaker file or the Address Book ( a group) so that every email looks personalized? Dear <name>,
    blah, blah, blah
I need to send out an email to about 150 faculty and staff. Messages sent to a list often get ignored or deleted unread. I need these to be read.
    Thx

What is the exact message you get when sending fails -- does it say there are one or more invalid addresses, or what?
Having a name in the list without email address or possibly one separated by comma between last and first might result similarly in an invalid address, and Mail will likely refuse to send to any. But if the message is from the SMTP, that might depend on the provider's policies for that.

  • How can I add multiple addresses to a group within address book?

I realize you can add in addresses by going to 'Message' then 'add Sender to Address Book,' but what I'm interested in doing is within Apple Mail, adding multiple addresses into a specific group within address book. I've tried to do this using mail scripts but keep getting an error.
Is it possible to do this?
    Thanks.
    David

So far, FWIW all I've got is individual AddToAddressBook, then in AB itself, drag and drop one by one from the main list into the desired group.

  • Cannot send email to Smart Group from Address Book

I created several Smart Groups in Address Book but I can't use any of them to send email. When I right-click the group name and choose Send Email, it opens my default email program (Thunderbird) and puts only the name of the Smart Group into the To: field, not the actual addresses.
If I try to actually send the message, I get the error that (name of group) "is not a valid e-mail address because it is not of the form user@host. You must correct it before sending the email."
What am I doing wrong? How can I get it to paste the actual addresses and not just the name of the group? I looked at the Edit Distribution List window and all the addresses are there.
    I'm using OS X 10.5.7, Address Book 4.1.2 and Thunderbird 2.0.0.22.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Sharing certain groups in address book rather than the whole address book

    Hi
I haven't got server yet in our office but we are looking to do this. Currently we just share calendars and other bits and pieces but I'm looking to get server in place. Sharing the address book requires giving a user our iCloud password and letting them look at the address book as a whole. We really only want to share certain phone numbers like our company staff phone numbers rather than our financial clients and other sensitive contacts.
Is it possible to only allow a "user" to access certain, or 1 group in address book rather than the whole address book library itself by using osx server
    Many thanks

    Hi Jaime,
I just wanted to jump in here with a quick question... on Mac OS X Server my understanding was that with the open directory, you can't designate organizational groups for the ldap service. Without that ability, how are you limiting what ldap users can see?
In our setup, our LDAP settings would be similar to
    cn=users,dc=example,dc=com
What format would you use to say show only members of the group "examplegroup"?
    Thanks!

  • How to create a group in address book from a mail folder

I have a mailbox folder in mail with about 100 emails. I want to add all of these email addresses to a new group in address book app. How can I add all of theses at one time to a new group. I dont want to add each email address one at a time. Is there a way to select all of my mail and just make a new group from that?

One of Andreas Amann's Mailscripts will do the address harvesting - I don't know if it puts them in a group.

  • Unable to delete group in address book

I am trying to delete a group in address book. I use the menu option (Edit/Delete Group) but the group does not go. The group is empty - I removed all addresses in it.
    Am I missing something?
    Thanks

    Hello again:
That file is in your home folder ( ~ library>preferences). That should not delete anything. However, although I move something to the trash, I wait a bit before emptying trash (you can always put something back where it came from).
OS X rebuilds preference files (plist) as needed and sets them to default values. Preference files may (rare) become corrupted and cause all sorts of problems.
You might also run repair disk from your software install DVD.

  • ITunes sync doesn't recognize changed groupes in Address Book

iTunes sync doesn't recognize changed groupes in Address Book. What to do?
I've cleared All Contacts on the iPad2 so it is blank now. I want to sync just a particular new group which is the combination of two former groupes which didn't sync correctly.

To be more clear (in hopes you can get it to work!) :
Under Mail -> Preferences -> Composing
    1. Be sure to CHECK the box that says autocomplete addresses under the Addressing heading.
    2. Quit Mail and restart.
If that doesn't work then I would suggest quitting Mail and trashing the Preference file (~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist). Then restart Mail and make sure the box is checked as above and restart Mail. Note that all preferences will be reset to the default and you may need to reconfigure Mail the way you like it. You can always drag the plist file back and restart Mail.app to restore your previous settings.

  • How to see iCloud Groups in Address Book?

    Hi,
I want to remove the Contacts set in "On my Mac", but keep seeing the Groups in Address Book. All my Contacts are in "On My Mac" & iCloud as well with identical Groups. But if I remove the "On my Mac" Contacts in the Address Book on my iMac, all my iCloud Contacts still show under "All Contacts", but the Groups are empty. All Groups still show up online & on my iPad, as these are seeing the iCloud "copy" of the Contacts.
The reason I even started looking at this was after upgrading to Mountain Lion I get Double Birthday notifications, and Double Birthdays in my Calendar under subscriptions. After experimenting with removing the On My Mac Contacts set, it is definitely the two sets that is causing the doubling. (Removed the On My Mac Contacts set, Birthdays just showed once, returned them, back up to doubling)
So if anyone can suggest a solution I am all ears!

    ShonaIL04,
It's amazing that it has now been close to three years and no one else has needed org missed this function with the exception of the two of us.
On top of that, my original post was written when I was in 10.6.8 and the same issue is present with 10.9.5!!!!
I'll guess we'll have to wait another few years....

  • Duplicates merging and deleting in Address Book

I know Apple Address Book has a "Look for Duplicates" option under the Card menu. I have a lot of contacts I'd like to clean up, and am thinking about using this functionality.
    Here's the problem:
Many clean up tools are notoriously unintelligent. There are many contacts in my address book, for example, who have the same name, but different email addresses or phone numbers. For some of them, they are genuinely contacts that need to be merged. For others, they are legitimately different people. Whatever tool I use for cleanups has to allow me the opportunity to review what it thinks should be merged or deleted before it does so.
I went to Card > Look for Duplicates in Address Book, and got a window telling me it found "422 duplicate cards and 409 duplicate entries". I'm worried about pushing the Merge button since I have no idea how Address Book conducts this assessment, and whether or not it will give me an opportunity to review its changes when I push the button. Unfortunately, the help file is not very helpful on this.
Can anyone here offer me some insight into how Address Book identifies duplicate cards and entries, and if there's anyway to review its changes before they're made?
(I know I can create a backup of my Address Book before the processing, and restore afterwards if necessary, but I wouldn't know if I'd need to restore unless I could AT LEAST review a list of all 400ish changes it made.)
    Dan

If you have not already tried, I would suggest to not use the address book duplicate merge feature. I just tried it doesn't give you the chance to review anything. All goes automatic and it leaves a complete mess. Merging companies with several people together, merging people with the same last name and phone number together, etc. I restored from a backup copy.

  • How do I isolate a group in address book - or other solution

History: I used my MAC to print Christmas card envelopes and wanted them to be addressed as "The Smith Family" but I do not want the original contact card to read that way. I set up a new "group" that was my Christmas card list and copied all the addresses over but, when I change the name it changes it in all groups.
Is there any way to isolate a group within address book so I can keep a different name on the same card?
If not, is there a field or way that I can print a different name than what is on the v-card? Another annoyance is that I used the "children" field but, when I printed an envelope it added them tot he end in a senseless fashion. I had to move all "family" information to the general comments.
    Thanks in advance.

There is only one set of data for each contact. A group is, effectively, a list of contacts, rather than a copy of a set of contact data. When you change a contact's details in a group you are making the change in the only copy of the contact's data.
One suggestion for address labels recently was to put eg The Smith Family in the company field, and at Christmas time run quickly through the cards marking the company flag - this could be easily automated in Applescript.
Even though it goes against the grain to have multiple copies of information, I keep the details for Christmas cards in a separate Excel spreadsheet. Address Book I use for email addresses and phone numbers.

  • When emailing a group from address book it opens individual emails....

When emailing a group from address book it opens individual emails for each name rather than one email with all email addresses listed. Have I set things up wrongly or is there something I can do to have a single email sent to multiple addressees via Address Book?

    Hello,
When addressing an email for this group, are you
entering only the name of the Group as the address?
    More info, please.
    Ernie
    Thanks for your reply.
Yes, it works directly in Mail - type in group name and all's well and lovely - but if I'm in Address Book and want to email a group it opens numerous emails. THere seems to be no way of opening Mail from Address Book and go straight to emailing a group.
