  • Can i migrate my files and programs from one mac book to another

    I have 2 macbook pros 13.3  april 2010 release
one has a 250gb drive and the other 500gb
both are running lion - after upgrading from snow leopard
I have al my adobe creative suite and mac office on the machine with 250gb hard drive - i want to transfer all my files and applications including adobe and mac office to the 500gb machine - can this be done via migration assistant? are there things i need to check etc before doing this
i am assuming the 250gb will be empty afterwards- i am not expecting to have 2 copies of the files and applications
Thanks for taking a look at my question

You can do that through Migration Assistant without any problem. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4889
There are different ways to connect both Macs in order to transfer the files. As both computers have got FireWire, I recommend you to buy a FireWire cable, connect it to both computers and run Migration Assistant. Doing this, the transfer will be faster and much reliable than with Ethernet or Wi-Fi. Also, check > http://pondini.org/OSX/MigrateLion.html

  • Using Migration Assistant to move files from old PC laptop to new MacBook Pro that has Windows 8 installed containing Outlook

When using Migration Assistant to move files from old PC laptop to new MacBook Pro, that has Windows 8 installed containing Outlook, will emails, contacts and calendar entries be moved to Outlook on the new MacBook or into Mail, Contacts and Calendar?

I doubt they will. But then I'm not sure as I used a migration program once about 18 years ago and totally FUBARed the system I had at that time and I've never used one again.
For me the reason to have a new system is to start fresh. Installing only program that I now use and manually copying data over from the older system.
Not sure your older version of Outlook, and the outlook mail boxes, are compatible with Office/Outlook for Mac 2011.
A better place to ask this question would be on the MS Office for Mac forums.
Hope it all works out for you.

  • HT1296 How do I back up the calendar and contacts from my iPhone5 to my new macbook pro(10.8.3)? I have backed up the phone, but it does not transfer the calendar or the contacts. If I check them in the sync area and the back up the phone again...

How do I back up the calendar and contacts from my iPhone5 to my new macbook pro(10.8.3)? I have backed up the phone, but it does not transfer the calendar or the contacts. If I check them in the sync area and then back up the phone again will they transfer or be erased? I am a bit gun shy since my previous macbook pro committed suicide and I lost a ton of info there.

Copy everything from your backup copy of your old computer.

  • Can I run Mac App Store programs from an external drive?

I have a 13" MacBook Air (128); but I have tons of programs that I have purchased from the Mac App Store, especially large training video programs. Even though I don't have a shortage of drive space yet, I certainly could find myself in that position if I keep ALL my programs and data on the flash drive. I really don't need to keep all these on my main drive; but I would like to be able to run one when I need it. Is there any problem with moving the program from APPLICATIONS to an external drive and running it from there? Should I leave the support files & folders (preference & application support) on the flash drive?
    THANKS.

Thanks for your help on this.
The MacBook Air is a joy; but the limited drive space is the only caveat. I really should have spent the extra money on the 256 gb flash drive; but at the time I was in the mood to go minimalist. Unfortunately that doesn't work well for me.
I have already moved all my music to iTunes Match and moved the backups to the external drive. I also keep most of my archive data on the 3 tb external drive. It's mostly those training video programs which are about a gig each that I want to move to the external drive ... ones I would not use that often ... so it's nice to know I can do that.
    THANKS AGAIN.

  • Can I move all data and programs from Tungsten C to a Pre?

I love my Tungsten C and I want to get a Pre as soon as it hits Verizon.  Will I be able to move all my data and programs easily over to the Pre?  (I know I have to get the Classic app to run old Palm programs.)   I can synch to either a Vista or XP computer.  I don't synch email or with Outlook contacts.
Thanks so much. I hope I posted in the right subforum.

    Post relates to: Tungsten C

Hello Miss Bert and welcome to the Palm forums.
As you know, the Pre and Palm webOS are all new offerings from Palm.  You are correct in that you will need MotionApps Classic to run your old Palm OS 5 application on the Pre.  What you should know is that Classic does not sync to Palm Desktop/Outlook.  When you get your Pre, regardless of what carrier it is on, you will be breaking the ties with Palm Desktop and the HotSync Manager.
There are a few options for migrating your data from the Tungsten C to the Pre.  To learn about those options, check out Palm's Pre Migration web page.

  • How can i migrate my my emails  files from my PC to my new Macbook air

How can i migrate or transfer my email files from my PC to my new MacBook Air?

Here is an Apple knowledgebase article specific to your question. And here is a more general knowledgebase article about transfering data from one computer (including a PC) to a new Mac.
Not to push you away from asking questions here, but did you know that if you go to Apple's main support page (there's a button to it at the top of this window) there's a text box where you can enter a question to find knowledgebase articles? That's generally the first place I go when I have a problem.

  • Can I install Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) on my new MacBook Pro?

Hi all, I'm user of Mac since lot of time and I`ve got a question. I have bought a Macbook Pro on September 2011 and it cames with Lion and no installation disc. Can I downgrade this Macbook Pro with Lion preinstalled to Snow Leopard with SL Retail disc?

Not with a retail disc — it doesn't contain a recent enough version of Snow Leopard to boot the machine. You'll need to obtain duplicates from Apple of the discs that would have been shipped with your machine before the release of Lion. Call Customer Relations at the number below and ask to have them sent to you for a small fee.

  • Transferring my contacts, itunes music, apps, address book, and pics from my iphone to my new MacBook Pro

I bought a new MacBook Pro 4 months ago, had some issues with it, brought it to Best Buy Geek Squad and they   . Now I would like to sync my iphone 4 with my computer. However, when I go to do that a message appears that says the computers current information will transfer to the iphone. Well there isn't anything on my computer and so I am afraid if I follow through with it my iphone will lose everything. I am mainly concerned about my address book, itunes and pictures. Is there any way for me to transfer from the iphone to the MacBook Pro?
My husband also has an iphone. I'd like to be able to also sync itunes with his phone but not the contacts. Any suggestions?

You might want to ask your question in the iPhone forum - https://discussions.apple.com/community/iphone/using_iphone.
While all of us here have MacBook Pros, not everyone (including myself!) have an iPhone.
Then again, some MBP/iPhone user may come along with an answer to your question... but I'd post it in the iPhone forum were I you.
    Good luck,

  • Transferring programs from my imac to my new macbook pro

I just bought a 15" macbook pro and wanted to transfer everyting from my older imac. I bought the fire wire cable but for some reason I am having a hard time getting this to work. Any ideas???? Will i be able to transfer my itunes library to my ne macbook pro? Please help.

There is something call disk mode. If you computer A is in disk mode then when connected to your computer B, computer B will see computer A as an external hard drive. To do this for computer A go to System Prederence>Start up disk. There is an option for you to restart your computer in disk mode.

  • How to copy and paste a table and pictures from pdf files to word using MacBook pro 10.5.8

    Hi Guys,
I want to copy tables out of a PDF document onto a word document. I only get the text and not the table when I copy and paste. I would also like to know how I can do the same with pictures or diagrams in PDF to word.
    Regards,
    Craig

You can take picture of anyhting from any document using Command + Shift + 4. Hold all three at the same time and your mouse will turn into a little plus sign where you can then drag across anything you'd like to take picture of it. The picture will be placed on your desktop.
See if that works for you.
