Can I mirror MacBook pro mid-10 to apple tv with something when internet in not available
I have a apple tv 3 and a MacBook pro mid -10. all I want to do is mirror to a projector, sometimes I don't have internet. I do have an airstash but the apple tv will not connect to the network, had the same problem with a wireless hot spot. What can I use to connect to the apple tv?
You are correct about mirroring upto a point.. (ref: my previous comment from the apple support engineer.. _ I will quote directly. The Apple operating system will support Airplay {iincluding mirroring} if it thinks the computer can perorm the task} where the software on the apple TV is version 5.x...
However I pointed out that you can still send movies..etc. to the appletv, again assuming your appletv software is 5.x..
I wish my apple tv did not upgrade.... lesson from this.. keep version 5.x on your apple TV. never upgrade.. too painfull.
https://discussions.apple.com/message/25190502#25190502
Your post of a link is helpfull but for public consumption and an official statemnt from apple, not in reality for version 5.x on apple tv3.
but.. my comments for version 5.x will be mute if apple tv v 5.x is not used.
Hope I helped somewhat.

Target Display Mode: Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
with a mini display to mini display cable. Attach it to the Thunderbolt port on your MBP and to the mini display port on your iMac.
How do I enable TDM?
Make sure both computers are turned on and awake.
Connect a male-to-male Mini DisplayPort or ThunderBolt cable to each computer.
Press Command-F2 on the keyboard of the iMac being used as a display to enable TDM.
Note: In Keyboard System Preferences, if the checkbox is enabled for "Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard functions keys," the key combination changes to Command-Fn-F2. -

I did the SMC reset and that did shut down the computer (did not notice if the power adaptor lite blinked) when pushed power button (after waiting approx. 30sec.) to see if computer would display same message -- it did! Here is report:

Can a 17" Macbook Pro (mid 2010) be upgraded to bluetooth 4.0
I need bluetooth 4.0 for "handoff" to work on my 17" MacBook Pro (mid 2010)
There is no Apple upgrade available.

I am trying to transfer files between my ipad 3 and my macbook pro mid-2012 and they will just not connect. I connected them yesterday and it worked fine. And i can not air drop these files into my ipad it has to be done through itunes. And i can not afford to buy a new computer. How do i get these two to connect without having to buy a completely new computer?
Computer USB ports, regardless of the computer maker, have a relatively low power output and thus are not good chargers. They will charge but it takes a long time. You should be charging your iPad from wall power, or a more powerful source like an in-car charger.
Buying another computer will not change that. -
(AIRDROP) Macbook Pro Retina Display Can't see Macbook Pro mid 2012
Hello,
I was trying to send and receive files from my macbook pro 13' mid 2012 (MBP) to and from macbook pro retina display 13' (MBPR) using airdrop.
both on Yosemite.
The problem is, I can't see my MBP from MBPR in airdrop. But the other way around works fine, I can see and send files from MBP to MBPR.
I've changed the 'allow me to be discovered by : Everyone' on both mac. Bluetooth and wifi are on. I even tried to search onlder mac from MBPR but no result.
Does anyone have the same problem? Is there any solution for this?I am aware there are symbols. My technical issue is the MagSafe2 adapter. What people typically do is connect their laptops to the wall when they're battery dies off. No biggie. I can attach it to the outlet. Well, when I connect the adapter to the outlet, nothing happens. Nothing happens at home, at Starbucks, at McDonalds, at other people's home.
When I brought this up with technical support in August when I bought it, technical support person said I might have issues with my electrical wiring at home. I've never had issues with electrical wiring at home because my other Apple products work fine when connected to the outlet. My July 2011 MacBook Pro charged without a hitch.
And I was able to charge my Retina MBP only at night or very early in the morning.
But this weekend, I couldn't charge it at all. I'm starting to think it might be the MagSafe2 adapter problem.
I feel rather ridiculous buying the highest-end of the 15 inch Retina MBP. It cost me over $3000. Right now I'm working with my 5 year old Hewlett Packard laptop. At least my HP works, which can't be said about this top-of-the line Apple product.
Probably explains why Apple stocks are falling. At $3000 I shouldn't be having these type of problems.

Can i mirror macbook pro to Apple TV with lid shut?
I've just bought apple tv and would like to use on an external tv which has apple tv running, however it seems i can only show the display on both machines, i would like to just use the tv and close the lid on the macbook, without it sleeping!
Is this possible?
ThanksHello 1moresolo,
One suggestion I would give you is to try pressing the key combination Control-Shift-Eject. This should turn off your MacBook Pro's display. Otherwise, try using the screen brightness keys to bring it all the way down.
On my MacBook Air, turning the brightness all the way down turns off the display.
Best of luck! -
Macbook Pro (mid 2012) is slow to start up when trying to wake up
Ok, this is a strange question that I haven't been able to find a good answer for. The issue at hand is that when I close my laptop lid, like for overnight or other long duration with no use, and I leave the power cord connected, when I try to open it it seems to take an inordinate amount of time to restart.
Conversely, if I do not have the power cord plugged in, it starts up nice and fast. And by this I mean when I open the lid, the screen shows the desktop right away, trackpad and keyboard are functioning, and the wireless starts up and begins looking for my wifi. I apologize, I can't remember off-hand if I have to log in. If I do, then it just starts up right away after log in, no noticeable issues.
Now, when I have the laptop plugged in, when I open it to start using it, I have to log in (which is fine, that's what I prefer), but the log in screen is pretty weird looking.
It seems like my login icon should be centered, or there should be the guest account login to the right or something. I don't know if this is indicative of the issue, but just something I noticed. Once I login from this it takes a couple minutes to get to where I can actually use the keyboard or trackpad. What is puzzling is why the behavior is different based on if the laptop had been plugged in or not.
I have tried resetting the PRAM, and I even tried entering a longer PMSET to extend when the hibernation would kick in (I had tried a setting of 24 hours, I know it converts to seconds, I didn't set it to 24 seconds ) but that didn't help so I set it back to the default. I also tried shutting off all of my startup programs like Dropbox, Google Drive, etc just to make sure I wasn't auto starting a memory hog, but that didn't seem to do the trick.
I'm using:
OSX 10.10.1
Macbook Pro (13 Inch, Mid 2012)
2.9 i7 processor
8 GB RAM
Thanks in advance!
Anyway, it's not the worst thing in the world, it's just super inconvenient.I have a macbook pro from the exact same time (since mid-2012) and i have the exact same problem; takes about 5 mins to wake up fully after it's been plugged into the AC adapter for long time. I have also tried resetting the PRAM and entering a longer PMSET, but neither have worked.
One thing I should add is that (sometimes) while I am waiting for the keyboard to start working, but the screen itself is on and I can see the desktop, I get a message saying the bluetooth can't "find" or "connect" to my keyboard. I wonder if it has less to do with the computer being slow to wake up and more to do with the bluetooth. Is that even possible?
Anyway, I have been trying to figure this out for years, and nothing has so far worked. Really hoping someone can help solve it. -
Can i show macbook pro 2008 files on apple tv
I have a new apple tv and I am trying to mirror my mac book pro to it. The mac has Mountain Lion on it and is a 2008 model. Is this a possibility?
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
AirPlay Mirroring requires an Early 2011 or newer MacBook Pro > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5404
You can't use AirPlay Mirroring to mirror your computer onto the Apple TV, but you can use a third-party application as AirParrot to do it > http://www.airparrot.com -
Since upgrading to Mac OS X Lion I have had problems with keyboard backlight and the ambient light sensor. I realized that the problem seems to be caused by ambient light sensor or hardware detection issues. LCD is not auto-dimming with light intensity variation. Since then I've done a Snow Leopard clean install and upgraded to Lion with no success. Then I have done clean installs of Lion using USB Keys with versions 10.7.0, 10.7.1 and 10.7.2 and the problem persists. Under Snow Leopard everything works like a charm.
SMC and PRAM reset did not solve the problem.
When I press F5 and F6 to adjust the backlight nothing comes up on the screen.
No settings under Keyboard menu.
Any ideas on how to solve this?Max,
I have the same model MacBook Pro as you. Have you tried erasing your internal disk, reïnstalling Snow Leopard from your grey Mac OS X Install DVD, and running Software Update to get it to 10.6.8, to see if it also misbehaves under Snow Leopard? -
Can a stolen MacBook Pro be disabled by Apple?
Is there any way for Apple to disable a MacBook Pro that was stolen?
I'm pretty sure Apple does not do that. Check out "Undercover" if you have not heard about it.

My Macbook pro is stuck at the gray apple scrren with a spinning wheel. I noticed the internet was not working yesterday so I restarted and now can't get in.
Gray, Blue or White screen at boot, w/spinner/progress bar
Create a data recovery/undelete external boot drive -
Macbook Pro Retina Display shuts down at 20% battery when it's not plugged in.
See above.

What can I do
Hey there Pinestreet87,
It sounds like your computer seems to boot but will not show your users so you cannot log in.
I suggest these steps from the article named:
Try a Safe Boot
If you're using Mac OS X 10.2 or later, you can start up your computer in Safe Mode, which includes an automatic disk check and repair. If you're using Mac OS X 10.1.5 or earlier, skip to the next section. A Safe Boot, which starts up your computer into Safe Mode, may allow you to start up your computer successfully using a reduced version of the system software. To do this, follow these steps:
Start up in Safe Mode.
After the system has fully started up, restart your computer again normally.
If the computer successfully restarts, you do not need to do any more troubleshooting. If the issue persists, try Disk Utility.
Try Disk Utility
Start from the Recovery System or Internet Recovery (OS X Lion or Mountain Lion).
If your computer shipped with a Mac OS X Install disc, insert the installation disc, and restart the computer while holding the C key.
If using a Recovery partition or Internet Recovery (OS X Lion and later): When your computer finishes starting up, choose Disk Utility from the Utilities window.
If using an installation disc: Choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu.
Important: If you started from an installation disc, do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must start from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
Click the First Aid tab.
Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
Select your OS X volume.
Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk.
Tip: With Mac OS X v10.6 and earlier, always start up your computer from an Install or Restore disc when using Disk Utility to verify or repair your startup volume. Otherwise, you might see some disk error messages.
Use fsck if necessary
fsck is a command-line utility that may be able to verify and repair a disk. If you can successfully start up in Safe Mode or use Disk Utility while started up from a disc, you don't need to use fsck. Here are some situations in which fsck may be necessary.

MacBook Pro mid 2010, gray screen at start up, boot from dvd not working.
Backstory:
I was in the process of installing Windows 7 using boot camp, but I was a little bit low on HD space. So, I deleted the user account that had a ton of stuff, and did some other crap that messed up my hard drive. So my computer just won't boot. It shows a gray screen 24/7, going into safe boot/safe boot + verbose doesn't fix the problem. I tried booting from an OSX Leopard dvd, but it won't work when I hold down C, and when I choose the Mac OS X Install DVD option after holding the option key, when I click the arrow button it freezes and doesn't boot. I have Lion installed, and apple says not to boot with an older version of OSX DVD, but there is no Lion DVD.
What do I do?
PS: I'm trying to boot using the DVD so I can reformat my hard drive, trying to do so in Recovery HD doesn't work because it says it 'Can't unmount drive'.Rockswim,
did it do that only once, or does it do that every time you restart it?
