No, you cannot do this with Lion OS X.
Reportedly the mirroring feature has been demo-ed with the next operating system Mountain Lion, however as yet we do not know if there will be any hardware restrictions to this feature. -

AirPlay Mirroring requires an Early 2011 or newer MacBook Pro, and OS X Mountain Lion. If you have a compatible Mac, you have two possibilities:
1. Upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion. Open the App Store and purchase it. Make a backup of your data before upgrading and check that your apps are compatible > http://www.roaringapps.com
2. Use AirParrot to mirror the MacBook onto the Apple TV > http://www.airparrot.com
Both options will work. If your computer isn't supported, the only way to mirror the MacBook is by using AirParrot -

I need to know how to mirror my macbook pro with my apple tv so I can watch youtube and use my browser on my tv. So what I can see on my computer I want to see on tv. Is there a program I need or should it do it by it's self?
If you have Mountain Lion (OS X 10.8.*), then just select AirPlay from the menu along the top of your desktop, and your computer screen should appear on a tv attached to your Apple TV.

how can i set that up ?First, uninstall Clean My Mac. Third party so called Mac cleaning utilities can do far more harm than good. Your Mac runs maintenance for you in the background.

Hopefully you have a backup of your Bookmarks so then can be reimported back into Safari .. -

I would disagree to the extent that it is dependent upon the network. If the network is reliable then airplay won't be an issue.
I used to think the same thing, but even with an all wired network I run into contant problems with mirroring and AirPlay. Audio drops out, or randomly starts to become garbled. Video just freezes. I can run loaded ping tests while it is happening and get 1.0 - 3.0 mil second response times the enitre time with no packet loss and AirPlay will still drop out or hang, lag. -

f i have a mid 2009 mac book pro and an apple tv that is the latest one. i can not mirror the mac book on my tv. is it the fact that my computer is a little older than 2011 models which will work. any info is greatly appreciated
chuck schickYes. You need 2011 or later in order to mirror as it requires the newer processor. The alternative is airparrot, which does it via software.

Note that those models are completely sealed with no serviceable or upgradeable parts inside. So if you decide to bite the bullet, be sure to customize its guts to your heart's content from the get-go as no further change will be possible. This means CPU speed, amount of RAM and size of the solid state drive. Other external options, like the Superdrive, can be added later. -
can you operate the mac book pro 15 inch with out the battery? I read somewhere in a post that it lowers the power to about 1 gig with out the battery. I asked apple and they said it is not true because you can use the comp with the power adapter and battery together or either by itself and it will not effect the 2.16 gig. Thank you.
If you remove the battery the CPU power will be cut by 50% (whatever they told you) so that there's no lack of power or overheating issues. It's best to always keep the battery in.

before Mountain Lion came out, I had my Mac Book Pro mid 2010, nicely connected to my DENON AVR-1912 amplifier through HDMI. The Amplifier would send the signal to the TV and manage the Audio as well.
Since Mountain Lion came out, I could not anymore use my iWires HDMI cable to connect my MacBookPro to the amplifier, as my Mac would not recognize anymore my amplifier as a TV and therefore would not give me the display option that it used to give me with Lion. Result- I can not adjust the signal that goes through the HDMI cable and the signal is not recognised by the amplifier and then transmitted onto the tv. NO SIGNAL
So I went to the apple store and was told I could use the Apple tv 3rd Gen to do that. So I bought it, and went back home. After having installed and realised that it didn't worked as well, I've called the Apple customer Service. They told me thta unfortunately, since I have a Mac Book Pro bought in mid 2010, I can not benefit from the mirroring function (Come on an i7 processor is absolutely good enough to do that). I asked if I could upgrade my Mac to a machine able to do that as I need this functionality. I was told I can't. I have to buy an other machine and sell mines through their recycle program....
So I returned my apple TV 3rd Generation, and decided to buy a VeeBeam HD. This product says that I can easily stream from a Macbook Pro with an i7 and 4Gb of ram to my TV. However, when the Veebeam arrived today, I tried to install it... and it didn't work, why? Because Apple has changed some "protocols" and does not allow anymore third party companis to produce products that stream data from Apple products to a TV.
So... my dear Apple, how am I meant to watch what I've got on my laptop (movies, music and stuff) on my TV going through my Amplifier now? It really seems I can not go by cable (the cable Apple sells- iWires), I can not use the Apple TV3rd Gen, and I can not use third party products.

How can I connect my Mac Book Pro (year 2008) to the TV set through HDMI? I've seen a DVI to HDMI iwire but I'm no sure that it is correct. Could anyone help me? Thank you very much.
I do not know the iWire adapter, but I use an inexpensive ($3) DVI to HDMI adapter from Monoprice, along with a regular HDMI cable:

Be aware that this will only transfer video. You Macbook Pro cannot combine audio through DVI to HDMI. You will need to listen to the audio through the Mac speakers, or attach speakers or a sound system to the Mac earphone jack, or determine if your TV has the ability to accept external sound from the Mac while showing video through HDMI (few can).

Safari menu and tabs not visible
Sometimes when I start safari the menu wont pop when hidden, also the tabs are not realy visible. only thing I can do is close swipe to go to desktop a few times, then it gets back. Somebody an Idea how to prefent this ?
