Can I modify jumpstart server boot image to support another LAN card?

I tried to install Solaris 9 from jumpstart server. However, Solaris 9 does not support my on-board LAN Card. As a result, I try to install Solaris 10 beta 55 from jumpstart server. It is a good news to me that Solaris 10 beta 55 does support "Intel 82801DB PRO/100 VE Ethernet". The installation is successfull. However, there is a problem when I install Windows XP on another DOS partition. I have no idea why the installation of MS Windows XP will crash the Solaris 10 beta 55 partition. Durning boot process in Solaris 10, There are a lot of Solaris partition errors. It is not a good idea to install Solaris 10 until the release comes out.
I think that it should be possible to modify Solaris 9 jumpstart server so that I can use Solaris 10 beta cd to kick up LAN driver and call Solaris 9 jumpstart server to install the OS.

You can use a "prestart command". It can be configured in the properties of each boot image, 'customization' tab.

  • Can't inject drivers into boot images as they don't appear

    Hello,
    I have a problem trying to inject some drivers into the boot image using SCCM 2012.
    I right click on the specific driver, I choose Edit > Boot image and there no boot images show up! The list is empty.
    We do have 2 boot images (x32 and x64) and they are working just fine!
    Does anybody have a clue what is going wrong here?
    Thanks.

    What version of ConfigMgr (RTM, SP1, or R2) are you using and what version are the boot images?
    Each version of ConfigMgr can only directly manage (including driver injection) specific boot image versions.
    RTM -> WinPE 3.1
    SP1 -> WinPE 4.0
    R2 -> WinPE 5.0
    Thus, you are most likely trying to edit downlevel (or maybe uplevel) boot images.

  • Can't add drivers to boot images

    I am just getting into OSD with SCCM 2012 R2 and have run into issues with the OS Image deployment.  I think it is because the boot image doesn't have the correct NIC drivers injected, but I can't seem to do it.  When I right-click the driver(s)
    in SCCM, click Edit->Boot Images the section where I can select the boot images that I want to inject the drivers into is dark grey and there are no images listed.  Is there something I have to do to the drivers/packages/categories before I am able
    to add the drivers?  Again, this is my first attempt at doing this so be kind. :)

    No, my user account is a domain admin member.
    I know this is a totally side topic, but that's a terrible practice security wise. That's my point whether or not it's the domain admin.
    As for the drivers in the boot image, you need to be using boot images that line up with your version of ConfigMgr to manage them in the console.
    2012 RTM -> WinPE 3.1
    2012 SP1 -> WinPE 4.0
    2012 R2 -> WinPE 5.0
    2012 SP1 with CU3 or CU4 supports WinPE 31 and WinPE 5.0 boot images but you can't manage certain aspect of them in the console like drivers.
    2012 R2 supports WinPE 3.1 boot images (but not WinPE 4.0) with the same caveats.
    You can use the method outlined by Jordan to manually inject drivers if necessary. If there a reason you aren't using the standard boot images created during ConfigMgr installation though?
    Also, you mentioned using the boot images you used in WDS. If these are based on the boot images directly from the Windows media, those won't work at all. As mentioned, you should be using the ones created at install time.

  • How do can I use Jumpstart to boot Solaris from Slave Drive

    Hi all,
    I have XP on Master Drive and I used Jumpstart to install Solaris on Slave Drive.
    This is the profile:
    install_type     initial_install
    system_type     standalone
    usedisk          c0d1
    boot_device      c0d1 update
    root_device     c0d1s0
    fdisk           c0d1 solaris all
    partitioning     explicit
    filesys          c0d1s0 10000 /
    filesys          c0d1s1 1111 swap
    filesys          c0d1s7 free /export/home
    cluster          SUNWCreq
    Now, I specified that the boot_device is c0d1 but after the installation the boot device is c0d0 which is my Master Drive...
    ...when I use Windows Boot Manager to boot Solaris... it cannot find the boot files on the master drive so it runs the DCA...
    ... so under the DCA I have to tell Solaris that the boot files are in my Slave Drive then I save it.
    ...I don't want to make this change everytime
    any ideas that would make this install hands free?

    ...don't know the answer to that but here is an alternative:
    ... use this as your finish script
    ... it changes the bootpath in bootenv.rc to point to the slave drive
    #!/usr/bin/perl
    open(INFILE,"/a/boot/solaris/bootenv.rc");
    open(OUTFILE,">/a/boot/solaris/bootenv.rc_out");
    while(<INFILE>) {
    chomp;
    #--cmdk@0,0 is the master drive
    #--cmdk@1,0 is the slave drive

  • Can I install my old boot drive (Tiger) in another G4 running Leopard?

    My trusty old dual 1GHz Quicksilver has finally died so I bought a used G4 Quicksilver MMD to replace it. Thing is, this other G4 has Leopard installed on it. To use Photoshop 7, I need to be running Tiger. If I install my old Tiger boot drive in this "new" box, can I choose to boot into either version of OS by simply holding down Option when starting up?

    Yes you can.
    PhotoShop may need de-authorizing by phone to get it to work in the new Mac though... at least my CS3 was that way & still haven't done it.

  • Can't add drivers to Server 2012 R2 boot image in WDS

    Hi all.
    I want to use my "old" Windows Server 2012 (not R2), WDS to deploy new R2 servers but i can't add driver package to the R2 boot image, it comes out with error code: 0xc0000135 no matter what drivers i use.
    Without network drivers i can't boot the image on my physical servers, i've tried on a virtual machine where it works just fine.
    I can't use the old boot image to install R2, then it comes with error: "Windows could not apply unattend settings during pass [offlineServicing]." when it tries to install it on both virtual and physical servers.
    My initial thought is that the WDS server has to be on a R2 server but i can't find anything that proofs that.
    Can someone confirm that non R2 WDS is not supported to R2 or does anyone have an idea to a solution?
    Thank you in advance.

    Okay maybe not a solution but i installed a new WDS server on R2 and then there was no problem adding driver package to to boot image.
    So i was able to confirm my theory that it's not supported to deploy R2 from a non-R2 WDS server. If anyone can make it work please let me know but until then i think this is the only way.
    If I understand your description of the issue, the problem is that you are trying to update a WinPE 5.0 WIM with a version of the ADK that services WinPE 4.0 images.  Installing the new Windows Server 2012 R2 server caused SCCM to use the version of the
    ADK that services WinPE 5.0 images.  You should be able to deploy them fine from the other server, but you can only service them from the new one.  You will not be able to service the older WinPE 4.0 images from the new server either.

  • R2 upgrade and custome boot images

    Hi Guys
    What happens to the custom boot images after the upgrade to R2 from SP1? There are some boot images customised to be able to connect to 802.1x secured wired network and I was wondering what will happen to them after upgrade?

    They're not gone after the upgrade so there's nothing to re-import thus yes you can still use them although boot images based on WinPE 4.0 are not technically supported in R2 (though they should work). You won't be able to add drivers to them or
    maintain them in the console either. You should put in the effort to customize WinPE 5.0 based boot images for the long run though.
    Also note that Win8 won't be supported anymore after October of this year (http://support.microsoft.com/lifecycle/search/default.aspx?alpha=Windows+8&Filter=FilterNO&wa=wsignin1.0) so
    you should plan to move to Win 8.1 Update ASAP for your deployments.

  • SCCM 2012 RTM to SP1 to R2 Boot Images Migration What steps to be consider

    We are Migrating SCCm 2012 to SP1 then to R2…
    My question would be specific to Boot images.
    We are in RTM edition, we have different boot images got created by our Imaging guys, These boot Images also have network/mass storage drivers are added along with some WINPE Back Group screen wallpaper, when cross checked the boot image properties. And
    finally these the Boot Images are distributed to all the required distribution points.
    Help me to understand what are the action steps to be taken now? In the process of RTM to SP1 and R2
    HunBoy Started learning from this page

    From RTM to SP1, the upgrade process will upgrade your WinPE 3.x boot images to WinPE 4.0 (if it can). From SP1 to R2, the upgrade process will not upgrade your boot images but will instead create new ones. Only WinPE 5.0 and WinPE 3.1 boot images are supported
    by R2 -- the 3.1 boot images are meant for supporting XP since WInPE 5.0 doesn't support XP (God help you if you're still on XP though).
    Thus, you need to get your "imaging" guys to create new WinPE 5.0 boot images.

  • Driver Signing for Boot Images - 2008r2 Site Server

    I was trying to update a driver in our boot image due to instability in the previous version.  This new driver officially supports Server 2012 R2 (as well as 2012, in a single driver) and is digitally signed.
    However, the certificate is not recognized by our Site Server which runs on 2008r2  (because it is a 2012 driver), and DISM.log is flagging the driver as Unsigned, and I cannot update the boot image - it fails every time.
    I'm able to work around this by injecting it myself with /forceunsigned, but it doesn't seem to be the "correct" way of handling this.  I can also do the mount and driver add on my 8.1 workstation, and not need /forceunsigned (thus proving
    it IS signed.)
    While it's flagging almost every other driver as unsigned (which is incorrect) - those other drivers aren't deemed "boot-critical", so it allows them.
    This one is a SCSI driver, hence it blocking it.
     Signature status of driver \\SCCMServer\ConfigMgrDrivers\Server 2012\SCSIAdapter\hpsa2_62.8.0.64\hpsa2.inf is: UNSIGNED - CDriverPackage::InitSignatureStatus
     Cannot install non-signed boot-critical drivers on amd64 images. Use /forceunsigned switch to override. \\SCCMServer\ConfigMgrDrivers\Server 2012\SCSIAdapter\hpsa2_62.8.0.64\hpsa2.inf - CDriverManager::CheckClientAddDriverScenarios(hr:0x80070032)
    For those of us who have our site servers on 2008r2, I'd call this a bug.  Anyone else getting this?  Is my workaround the supported solution for people not running site servers on Server 2012 / 2012 R2?

    I had similar problem with one driver in the past. The way I 'fixed' my situation was that I manually injected the driver to .wim -image with DISM and then re-added the Boot Image to ConfigMgr 2012. The driver won't show up in the properties of the boot
    image but I didn't really care, because I just wanted to get this thing working.

  • Modify existing boot image

    Hello everyone
    How can I modify an existing Netboot or Netinstall image?
    ex. I have a 10.4.4 image with apps which I want to upgrade it to 10.4.6 and add some apps.
    Do I have to create the image again?
    Thanks
    Kostas

    No, on your NetBoot server open System Image Utility and go into "Images", in here you see listed all the images in your /Library/NetBoot/NetBootSP0/ directory. You should be able to select the one you want to image and add packages in the contents pane. It should also give you the option of backing up your image before it applies the changes.

  • MDT 2013 Boot Image Crashes When Moved To New Server

    I tested an MDT 2013 installed on a Windows 7 laptop and it works.
    So now I am trying to move it to a Server 2008 R2 server so we can put it into production and the same workstation crashes in Win PE with a generic IRL not equal error.
    I installed the same ADK version 8.100.26629 and MDT 2013  6.2.5019.0 on the server along with the.net framework 4.5 and Windows Management Framework 3.0.  Both are showing the same PowerShell version 3 0 -1 -1
    I updated the deployment share to point to the new paths and regenerated the boot image and copied it into WDS.
    When I boot the laptop and try to run it from the server, it crashes in Win PE before the deployment task ever starts.
    The same workstation still boots fine when I boot with the old boot image that points to the test laptop.  So it does not seem to be a problem with the laptop.
    Since I copied the entire deployment share over, I assume it must be using all the same drivers.
    What could be causing this problem?

    Doesn't make sense since the hardware works 100% of the time when the deployment share is hosted from a Windows 7 laptop.
    Simply copying the deployment share to a Server 2008 R2 server, updating bootini, customsettingsini, the shares and regenerating the boot image and the same deployment fails 100% of the time.  Same laptop and same drivers used both times.
