Can I modify my Address Book with Excel?

It looks like I should be able to with the Desktop Software, Organizer, Address Book, Ascii Importer/Exporter
But the sequence of steps involved stumps me.
I want to do 3 things:
1) Export my Address Book from my 8330 to a Windows file.
(I did this once, after trying many combinations, but I then forgot the sequence.
It created a file called ..My Documents/Blackberry/contacts
2) I want to modify the data with Excel. I seem to be able to do this by loading the contacts file as "comma delimited". Then I touch up the names and addresses and then save as type "comma delimited" contacts.cvs
I'm guessing that's the way to do it. If not, I need specifics.
3) I then want to import the file back to the 8330.
Here I am completely lost. It keeps wanting to export only.

Hi JustCurious,
Try following the instructions here to import your contacts to your BlackBerry. http://bbry.lv/kGD7c6
Hope this helps,

  • Can you share iCalander/Address Book with other users and restrict them from seeing certain entries?

I'm doing some research for my boss concerning iCloud. He would like to setup a way to syncronize iCalender and the Address Book between three users but keep his personal information private. For example, he wants to be able to update his calender from his phone about an upcoming meeting/project so that the three computers at work are all updated and see upcoming events. Same goes for the contacts. If he adds a new contact or if I add a new contact, for a client or whoever it may be, he wants it to sync up for everyone. At the same time, if he adds a personal event to iCal such as, "Dinner with the girlfriend" or something irrelevant to work, he doesn't employees to be able to see that. My first idea was to setup an iCloud account but I'm wondering if you can even restrict certain things within an account.
Anyone have any other ideas? They would be greatly appreciated.

iCloud appears to provide no Address Book sharing. You might be able to do this through Google, but it would be likely to be all contacts or none.
iCloud allows you to share calendars privately (editable if you wish) to other iCloud users or publicly (non-editable) to anyone - they would need a CalDAV client to read it, such as iCal or Google Calendars.
You share individual calendars, so private events should be in their own calendar which is not shared.

  • Can I share my address book with other user profiles on my computer?

My wife and I both logon to our iMac with different user accounts. However, we know all the same people and would like to share the contents of the Address Book. How do we go about this so that if I add a person to the address book, that my wife will see it when she gets on with her account?
    Thanks.

I realize yours was a suggestion to investigate & not a recommendation, but I wanted to point out some of the method's potential problems in case it was taken as the latter.
Should anyone decide to take the safer option of sharing vCards manually, they can make the procedure easier by creating a shared folder in Users/Shared & an alias of it in some convenient location like the desktop. Then, after creating new contacts they want to share, they need only drag them from the name list into the alias. The other account holder(s) then can drag them from that common folder into their own Address Book.
A variation of this idea is to create individual folders in each ~/Public/ folder (changing permissions as appropriate), or to use the Drop Box folder to make the vCard available to other user(s). This would reduce the confusion between "incoming" & "outgoing" vCards. I haven't tried it, but it might also be possible to automate the importing or at least notification for the receiving user with folder action scripts.

  • Why can I sinc my address book with my iPad

Why can't I sync my address book on my iphone with my iPad mini?

It sounds like you use Quest as your ISP, or whoever you have as your ISP is being taken over by Quest. If this is the case it is possible that your email server is being transitioned to Quest and you will need to change your email address and server settings.
I am only speculating since I do not have enough information. I suggest calling your ISP or Quest and ask their help desk about this.

  • How can I use my address book with message

How do I allow my address book to work in messages or do I have to populate it with a new list of phone numbers and email addresses?

Not sure what you are looking for. The iOS address book, Contacts, is used with all comunications apps such as Messages, Mail, FaceTime and the Phone app on an iPhone. Enter your contacts into Contacts including all known info including phone numbers, email addresses, Twitter and Facebook IDs as well as more info.
When you create a new message you can either start typing the address or tap on the button to bring up Contacts. Be aware you can only FaceTime and send Messages to other iOS devices. Other third party apps can expand on the messaging capabilities.

  • MacBook Pro 17" iTunes can't sync address book with iPad Air

Can't sync between MacBook Pro 10.6 OS ver and new iPad Air (bought 2 days ago) cell 32gig.  Have been to Apple shop at Garden City WA, helpful but seems very little knowledge of 10.6 OS.  Have attempted upgrade on MacBook to Lion OS, persevered and seemed to work.  Except now the MacBook won't boot, even choosing drive unit, just spins the icon.  Even left it for a few hours just in case it needed time to sort itself out.
Back to Apple shop first thing in the morning, getting MacBook up and running is first priority followed by syncing address book with iPad.  If can't sync guess I'll have to return it as having them communicate is why I brought the iPad, something lighter in my brief case instead of carrying the MacBook around.
It became tiring being told the MacBook was old technology, having spent money with Apple upgrading the MacBook drive & memory to cope with Final Cut and Creative suite.
    Any advice most welcome!

Figured it out and it wasn't fun. I watched the console messages as I deleted groups and tried to sync with Mobile Me until no error msg was displayed. Then I restored AB from a back up and proceeded to delete contacts one at a time and check for errors until none were displayed. After deleting about half my contacts under the one group I finally found the one contact. I then did another AB restore, deleted the troubled contact, sync'd fine, then did another backup. I have no idea why that one contact was the problem as everything looked fine. Console msgs only showed a silly number as the contact, not the name, which is why I had to go through all this. But...it's fixed.

I am transferring my mother's address book and mail etc to my computer from an external hard drive enclosure and am not able to open it due to this message:  You can't use this version of the application Address Book with this version of Mac OS X. her email is in user>Library>Mail folder. Hopefully you've created another user on your Mac for your mother so she would have her own user Library.

  • Unable to sync iMac address book with iPad. Can you please help?

Unable to sync iMac address book with iPad. Can you please help?

I have the same problem as Sheilaza but haven't been able to solve it using the advice offered.  The same problem applies to my Calendars. When I look at my iPad settings in iTunes, it says:
    Sync Contacts
Your contacts are being synced with your iPad over the air from iCloud.
Over-the-air sync settings can be changed on your iPad.
    and the same for Calendars.
On the iPad, in iCloud settings, I have checked 'Contacts' and 'Calendars' as 'ON' but the Calendar remains blank and the Contacts are a very old version that was somehow created when I set up the iPad initially.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

Can I merge my iPhone address book with my iMac address book? I do not want to replace one for the other, just combine them.
It seems that you have to choose one or the other, keep iMAcc addresses or iPhone.

Indeed you can merge the address book using iCloud. You can find the info here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3998. I am not sure if you can de-duplicate though.
If that doesn't work or you want more out of your address book, you can always try connex.io (I work for the company). It's a service that automatically syncs, deduplicates, cleans and updates your address book across many different devices and services. If you want to try it out, you can get a free trail version at www.connex.io.
    Good luck!
I may receive some form of compensation, financial or otherwise, from my recommendation or link.

Can't get my address book to sync to IPAD2.  Using Outlook Express 2004.  I followed the steps in Itunes, but still not contacts.  Any suggestions?

Mine is doing the exact same thing, and nobody on any of these threads has had any luck fixing it yet, so far as I can tell. iSync is worthless since it simply won't see the ipod and basically is not used at all now as .mac is done through its own preference window. What did work for me, and was quite easily done, was to just open your ipod through the finder and delete the vcard data in the contacts folder. Export your contacts from address book as a vcard to that contacts folder on your ipod, and it all works fine.
Still won't sync...but at least this only takes a minute to do. I'd like to actually fix it though.

  • Exporting Address Book to Excel

I would like to export addresses from my Address Book to Excel, to create a database Christmas card list that I can update every year with "sent", "received", and related information. Is it possible to do this? If not, does anyone out there know any good christmas card list database software? This seems a natural for both AddressBook and Excel, but neither have any helpful tips in their Help.
    iMac G4 17-inch   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Option Two: Use Address Book, itself.
In the Note field, add keywords for sent and received. I'd use something that you would not add to the notes normally (e.g. xMasSent, xMasReceived). You can then create smart groups to find all with xMasSent--call it Cards Sent; one that finds all with xMasReceived--call it Cards Received. You could also use the "does not contain" option to find ones not sent or received. Finally, you could find all that you sent, but not received.
Taking this further, you could create an applescript that would "reset" all the cards--erase the xMasSent, xMasReceived. Or, you could add the year to the keywords to keep a log of the years you sent and received. I think I could create the Applescript easy enough if you decide to go this route. However, some things I think should be easy turn out to be very difficult.

  • How can I get the address book to sort by "Last" name (using v 31.3.0).

After a computer crash, I had to load Thunderbird (v31.3.0) back into my machine running Windows 8.1, and I successfully imported my address book back up file into Thunderbird (v31.3.0).
My problem is that I don't see an option to sort the address book by "Last" name, which was available with the version of Thunderbird I had before the crash.
How can I get the address book to sort by "Last" name?

    In 'Address Book'
    Select address book
    'View' > 'Show name as' > 'Last/First'
The you can sort by Name.
Either click on 'Name' column header to change sort order,
If reversed, then click on 'Name' column header again to reverse the order.
    Or
'View' > 'Sort By' > choose 'Name' and 'Ascending'
