Can I mount a USB Olympus voice recorder built for a PC?

Hi, someone just gave me an Olympus VN-240PC digital voice recorder he didn't want anymore. I'd like to use it, but when I connect it to my PB running Leopard it never shows up in the Finder. It does show up however in the System Profiler as an "Olympus Voice Recorder" or something. And when I plug it in to my Mac, the recorder's LCD blinks "PC", like it's supposed to do when connected to a computer. Even with the free Olympus software for Macs loaded on my PB (which is admittedly not designed for this recorder), it still doesn't recognize/show the device in Finder.
Olympus apparently wants this thing to only work on a PC for some reason and never made a driver etc for it to work with a Mac, even though a Mac can handle WAV files (the format this Olympus recorder uses). Zilch at the Olympus support site for making this specific model work on a Mac.
I'm a total novice, but I tried to use the USB Prober tool, which apparently does nothing but diagnostics.
I just have trouble believing I can't simply download files from this recorder. Does anyone know of some universal Mac/PC driver that might work on this thinger? Should I just give up and through it on eBay? Thanks a lot, scott

I tried both the Philips and Olympus digital voice recorders using Windows-based programs running through Parallels. Neither of them worked. If you want a digital voice recorder I suggest trying a portable one that plugs into the Mac through a USB cable AFTER you have done your recording. I believe that the Olympus version include Mac software.

AirPort Extreme n   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   PC too

I just bought the Airport Extreme 802.11n and a WD MyBook Essential Edition 500GB to use with it as a shared disk. Reformatted it on my Mac and it works fine, but can't get Airport Disk Utility to see it. I've tried resetting everything, but no go.
The improved range compared to my old Airport Extreme 802.11b/g is great, but I've wasted my money on the disk if the Airport can't connect to it.
Why was there no explanation anywhere in the specifications that this new Airport only works with some USB disks? The way it's written is clearly designed to make you think that any external HD that connects to a USB port will work.
I too would welcome any thoughts on how to get the HD to work with Airport. Thanks.

  • Is there a voice recording app for ipad that shares directly via iMessage (not just email) - like voice memos does on iphone?

Does any-one perhaps know whether there's a voice recording app for ipad that shares directly via iMessage (not just email) - like voice memo does on iphone?

You can't do anything in the background of iOS. Apps are still one at a time (with a few exceptions like Music), and suspend when the app is closed. It's also against the App Store guidelines to sell apps that would allow such actions.
Though, maybe you could get your Voice Memos saved to MP3's, which can play in the background of other apps.

  • Importing WMA files from an Olympus Voice Recorder

I am considering the purchase of a digital voice recorder, possibly one of the inexpensive WMA recorders from Olympus.
I would like to be able to import the voice recording files onto my Mac, possibly for editing them in Garage Band. I may make podcasts or other voice-message multi-media projects out of the recordings.
I heard in another forum that the WMA files may be problematic to import onto my Mac. Does anyone know what the issues are? What are the possible fixes? Any freeware that can convert these kinds of files to something useful on the Mac?
A couple of possibilities I'm looking at for handheld voice recorders:
Olympus VN-6200 PC (nice deal on this model on the web)
    http://www.olympusamerica.com/cpg_section/product.asp?product=1459
Olympus DS-40 (I found a nice deal on this one as well)
    http://www.olympusamerica.com/cpg_section/product.asp?product=1277
    Thanks in advance,
    --WA

The primary issue is that Mac OS X does not natively support WMA, so you will have to convert the WMA files to another format before they can be played. Possibilities for conversion include EasyWMA or QuickTime Player and the Flip4Mac import codec (not the free version).
I'm not aware of any freeware for Mac that can convert WMA, though I can't say that none exists.

  • Can't mount 4Tb USB 3.0 drive on a Sparc T5-8 control domain

    Hello,
I'm trying to mount a 4Tb USB 3.0 disk drive on a Sun Sparc T5-8 running Solaris 11.  It is also the LDOM primary and control domain.

I verified the drive is good because I can mount it on a Sun T4 server running Solaris10 and was able to mount and see the data.
Any ideas why the Sparc T5 can't access the drive?  I've also tried restarting hal and rmvolmgr, but issue still persist.
Any assistance is appreciated as we need to access customer's data on the drive as soon as possible.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
since your posting is a couple of weeks old I don't know if you already managed to get the disk working.
You might want to consider one of the following options to get it working as the problem is seen when the disk drive draws more power as the USB port can deliver.
    1)  use USB EXTENSION Y CABLE
    2)  use external USB hub with power supply
    3)  use USB disk with external power supply
For more details you might want to review

  • Simple voice recorder/save for curve 8320?

Can anyone recommend a simple voice recorder for the curve 8320 where I can record voice notes and save them directly to my phone instead of emailing/mms'n them using the built in send voice note feature on the phone?  I have tried using handango and their software sucks, stuff doesn't work and I tried the vr+ voice recorder program they have and don't like it, I just want something simple.
    Does it exist?

soon, a Handheld OS version 4.5 will be available for your carrier (if you're at AT&T it already is). Inside it there will be a video mode : you'll be able to take pictures like today, and also 3GP videos.
If you want, you can install it from AT&T and delete the vendor.xml file on your PC before launching the Desktop Manager to upload the OS on your Blackberry.
Apart from that, I can't install applications on my Blackberry so I lag a bit about available wonders other people can install on their Curve.

  • Zen Vision: M Voice recorder feature for school quest

Hello guys. I am very close to purchasing a Zen Vision: M 30GB MP3 Player.
My main concern is with the Voice Recording function since i wish to record
    school lectures.
Will anyone who owns one of these or has direct information, please discuss this with me?
] How clear are the recordings? I'm planning to record 2-3 hour lectures at a time
2] I've been hearing there is a faint noise due to the hard-disk of the unit, does it present an issue?
3] How is the battery life, in terms of recording?
Any additional information you have dealing with recording, will be greatly appreciated.

  • Can a PO be generated using Info record marked for deletion

    Hello all,
Is it possible that PO be generated using Info record marked for deletion?
Observed that a info record is marked for deletion but still able to see a PO generated using this info record.
Is this becasue - PO can be generated untill info record is actually deleted from the system during next reorganization run?
    What is reorganization run?
    Regds.,
    Chaitanya

    Hello S. Iyer,
    I have following queries -
    1. What is meaning of your statement -
"If you want to restrict creation of POs against deleted info record"
Do you mean that info record is "deleted" or "marked for deletion"?
    2. Any way, is there difference between two -  "deleted" or "marked for deletion"?
    3. Where in the info record I can see history of marking for deletion to see who and when marked it for deletion?
    4. Observed that there is a message that comes up that info record is marked for deletion.
Is there indication on info record itself like - permanent record, tick mark to indicate that it is marked for deletion?
    Regds.,

  • How can I add music from my voice recorder to music player

on samsung fascinate please? i don't want to have to connect with USB. thx

Connecting via USB is the easiest way to get files onto your device (unless you have an SD card reader), and you can just drag and drop into a music file on your phone.  If you want to go the card reader route, unmount the card (menu>settings>storage>unmount SD card), insert it into the reader, and drag and drop.  Other wise, you would have to email the file to yourself, save it, and use a file explorer app to move it to the appropriate place.
There are some WiFi solutions, but I have no experience with those.

  • Can I correct pitch in a voice recording?

I've recorded instrumental and vocals, and the vocals are a little off. Is there a way to correct pitch? In an older version of Garageband, I used to be able to adjust regions up or down...

Select the audio track to be corrected and open the track editor (the scissors icon in the toolbar).
Click the "Track" tab in the editor panel. Adjust the Pitch correction slider.
If you do not see the slider, you need to enlarge the editor pane by dragging the dividing line to the track area upwards.

  • Can You mount a mac Pro In a case for On the Road work

I do audio pre and post production and I was thinking aobu ttaking a mac pro and putting it in a rack sideways . I know that the HD need pins(I think) to do that But I dont really know much else. any suggestions are appreciated

The MacPro is not a small tower. I don't think it will fit in a standard 19" rack case on it's side, even if you hack-sawed off the feet and handles (and who'd want to do that?!)
You can rack your Mac vertically with this deal: (it says G5 but I think the case is the same size for MacPro?)
    http://www.redco.com/shopexd.asp?id=876
And there are up to 5 rackspaces vertically for your outboard gear. This thing is the converter only and you still need to get a 12 space rack.

  • Can ipod touch be used as a voice recorder? what about previous generations? is there a built-in microphone?

can ipod touch be used as voice recorder? what about previous generations? which generations have built in microphones?

4th gen has a microphone pin-hole on the back next to the camera.
2nd and 3rd gens allowed the use of an external microphone using a special headphone jack.
I do not think the 1st gen can accept a microphone, but I am unsure.
