Can I move all my drives from my 1,1 to a 4,1

Hi,
I would like to benefit from a newer, faster mac pro, and I'm considering buying a 4,1 8 core 2.66GHz. I currently use a 1,1 Quad core 2.66 with Digital Performer and a lot of Virtual Instruments and experience crashes and slowdowns galore.
To avoid as much hassle as possible I'd like to take all 4 of the Hard Drives out of the 1,1 and slide them into the 4,1, thus getting everything back up and running ASAP.
Good idea? No?

The sleds are not identical -- you will have to swap the drives to the new sleds.
You could be seeing these sorts of problems due to marginal blocks on a drive. Moving that problem without figuring out what the fundamental problem is will make debugging it MUCH more complex.

  • How can I move all my bookmarks from different Firefox profiles into one area to organize them and then place them into the different Firefox profiles?

How can I move all my bookmarks from different Firefox profiles (would like to move whole bookmark folders at once if possible) into one area to organize them and then place them into the different Firefox profiles? This is all under one window user account, I am using windows 8.1. Even if you have information on how to do it on a different windows, it may still be helpful. Thanks for any input you have.

Just a note about the difference between these two things:
    * "export" and "import" use an ancient HTML document format that all browsers can understand. When you import bookmarks, Firefox may place them into an Imported Bookmarks folder, or into Unsorted Bookmarks. This does not displace existing bookmarks, and Firefox does not automatically remove duplicates.
    * "backup" and "restore" use a more comprehensive JSON data file, which contains extra information about your bookmarks (such as tags) not contained in the traditional export file. HOWEVER, a restore completely replaces all existing bookmarks, so the restore feature cannot be used to merge in a set of additional bookmarks.

Some users find the disk-based Windows Favorites folder a convenient way to organize bookmarks. If you do, too, and you do not need to preserve tags on your bookmarks, you could export each profile's bookmarks to HTML and import them all into IE11. Organize them in the Windows Favorites folder, then export from IE11 to HTML and import that file into each Firefox profile. • How can i move all the music from my playlist on my ipod onto...

OK, I have a 4G 20GB ipod that has reached its capacity...I have upgraded to the 5G 60GB video...I want to move my entire playlist from my old ipod onto the new one. I tried to click and carry the playlist onto the itunes playlist but I cannot?

I feel I've explained plenty what you must do but you aren't getting it.
All music on your old iPhone should be in your iTunes library on your computer. Transfer the music from your iTunes library on your computer to your new iPhone in the same way it was transferred from your iTunes library to your old iPhone - via the iTunes sync/transfer process.
Since you prefer the manual way, you must manually drag and drop the same 377 songs from your iTunes library to your new iPhone - in the same way the 377 songs were manually transferred from your iTunes library to your old iPhone.
Or you can sync which provides more options overall. Create an iTunes playlist for the 377 songs. Select Sync Music under the Music tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes and choose selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres. Select the iTunes playlist below that includes the 377 songs followed by a sync.

  • Can I move a hard drive from a 1.8 G5 to a 2.5 Quad G5 tower? - 10.4.11

So, I'm trying to save myself some hassle. I tried moving a hard drive that was from a 1.8 ghz G5 tower and placing it into a Quad 2.5 G5 tower so that I could gain a speed benefit. The drive from the 1.8 ghz machine is running 10.4.11 (an OEM disk that shipped with it originally).
Well after I moved the drive to the quad 2.5 and tried to boot from it all I got was a gray screen. The quad G5 was probably looking for drivers on the 1.8 drive but the original OEM install disk that was used on the 1.8 didn't have them on it.
So, I don't want to reinstall a new retail version of Tiger (one that would have the updated drivers for the quad 2.5). Does anyone know which pieces of code I can copy from the quad 2.5 system folder to append to the older drive from the 1.8 system folder so that the newer 2.5 quad will recognize and boot from it.
I don't really want to upgrade the 1.8 drive to leopard because it may not be compatible with some of my software.
Does this make sense? Any other ideas to get this older version of Tiger to work with the newer quad 2.5? I basically just want to keep the same disk but use it in a faster G5.
    thanks,
    Hairfarm

It might need something as simple as a PRAM reset on the Quad. When I moved to the incumbent G5, I restored the boot volume from my B&W G3 onto the boot volume I created on the G5 and had no problem booting from the G5, so this is something of a puzzle.
Another thing you can do is boot to the good (existing) Quad volume, use System Profiler to get a list of the loaded kext files, then do the same back in the 1.8 with the drive in question, then compare the two of them and see what might be missing.
One place to look is the difference in video cards though, as that can definitely be a problem. One missing file can stop things in the tracks, like for instance not having NVDANV40Hal.kext
if you have an Nvidia card in an AGP G5.

  • How can I move all my contacts from iPhone to iCloud?

On my iPhone, all my contacts are synched with my MobileMe Account. Now I've set up iCloud on my iPhone by creating a NEW iCloud account, with a different Apple ID (I mean, different from my MobileMe account and from my Apple Store/ITunes account, to test the new iCloud).
In fact I would like to move all my iPhone contacts to my new iCloud account. I have chosen the appropriate settings under iCloud settings, but (even after several days) my contacts have not synched with iCloud.
    How can I do this?
I would like to avoid migrating my MobileMe account to iCloud for the time being.
    Thanks for your help,
    Marco

Windows 8, Outlook 2010, I'm trying via Google, but the other problem I have, is that I can't update my contacts in iCloud, I tried from the web on the tab that says update contacts, but is not synchronizing them...

  • How to move all app data from one user to another? (One mac)

Hi. I've been having this problem for a while. So recently, I've made a new account for myself, since I was using my mom's user account. I don't want to keep all of my files, emails, and icloud on her user, since it's used by everyone in my family. I use iMail now because hotmail blocked my email because "Someone hacked me" and they kept it locked for all these months, and I can't give enough proof to show it was mine, since I forgot every email I've sent now.
And iMail is pretty cool, adding your own rules and stuff. Except you don't need a password to log in. I just deactivate my iMail via system preferences as a log-out, and then re-activate it as a log-in.
    So, back to the question.
How can I move ALL app data from my mom's user account to my new one? Her acount also has pictures of our germany vacation. So not every file.
You see, I game on my mac mostly because steam is really complicated, using internet just to play a game that doesn't need internet and stuff.
And steam doesn't have a lot of casual games.
So I want to move my game data, save files and every little piece of application info that my games have on my mom's account to mine. I've asked this question on Yahoo answers, and all I got was an answer of "File IS data, or datum itself, You are wrong. I cannot give you an answer." -.-
I'm not experienced with terminal either, so I'll need a ton of explanation of how to use it if that's how it can be done. It really really confuses me and I'll just give up.
    Thanks in advance.

Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.

  • How can I move my iPhoto Library from my MacBook Pro to my iMac or hard drive??

How can I move my iPhoto Library from my MacBook Pro to my iMac or to my external hard drive? 'Help' is not helping!!

    To move to another machine:
To move an iPhoto Library to a new machine:
Link the two Macs together: there are several ways to do this: Wireless Network,Firewire Target Disk Mode, Ethernet, or even just copy the Library to an external HD and then on to the new machine...
But however you do choose to link the two machines...
Simply copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine.
    Then launch iPhoto. That's it.
This moves photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else.
To move to an external disk:
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.

You can use a program like Carbon Copy Cloner.  It will clone your HD to the external.  The format is the same as your internal drive and you can boot from it using Option key at boot time.

  • Can't move all contacts from phone memory to sim i...

Please i need help. I can't move all contacts from my Nokia 6600 phone memory to SIM or from SIM to phone memory at a time like i used to do with my former Nokia 6810. Does anybody know how to do this?
    Thanks.
    Darry.

    hmmmm....*strokes beard*
I'm assuming you want to transfer all your contacts between sim and phone memory all at once.
to do this, go to contacts on your phone then select "options", then select "Mark\Unmark". You then get a little side menu. in this side menu select "Mark All". all you phone contact should now have ticks next to them. Now Press "Options" again and now you should have the option to "Copy to sim Directory". and from sim to phone do this in reverse.
    Peace out

How do I move all my files from one User Profile (account) into another?
I needed to create a new account and want all of my files accessible in the new one.

ok, what you're learning right now is 101 unix, which is good. Unix is a good thing
now: the way unix works, and macos (which uses unix underneath) the files and folders work like a hierarchy.
the start of that tree is /
so, if you were to do:
    cd /
    (cd means change directory)
it will bring you at the highest branch of the file system.
    cd /Users
will bring you to where all the users are.
to see whats in /Users you can use your friend ls command
    ls means list files/directories
    so:
    cd /Users
    ls -la
(the -la here means show all (even hidden) and long format (very verbose))  this flag is very optional.
    you will see
    fred
    user2
    for example.
if you want to see the desktop of user2 you would change directory to it then list the files.
    for example:
    cd /Users/user2/Desktop
Note that the files and directory are case sensitive, so, desktop is NOT the same as Desktop, or DESKTOP
    ls -la
you should then be able to see everything in users2 desktop
you could have done as well the same thing in smaller steps, for example:
    cd /
    cd Users
    cd user2
    cd Desktop
this is the equivalent of cd /Users/user2/Desktop
So, for your file, i don't know where it was, but know that if you log in as user2, it will directly put you in
    /Users/user2
which most likely the file you had created from the other user was in /Users/user1
if you copied all the files from /Users/original_user to /Users/secondUser
most likely yes, all your mail, bookmarks etc would be copied over.
    so in your case.
    sudo chown -R seconduser:staff /Users/secondUser
    should work
Remember that if you start a path with the character /  it means start from the root of the file system, at the highest top you can ever get.
    so
    cd /Users/fred
    is not the same as
    cd Users/fred
unless you were in / already
i know it may be confusing at first but it's actually very logical if you play with it.
to simplify, think of it that / means C:\  on windows
you can't go any higher than C:\  (in a way)
if you're unsure which directory you're currently in, you can always type:
    pwd
it will tell you where you are.
    for example:
    cd /
    pwd
    this shows  /
    cd Users
    pwd
    this now shows /Users
    cd /System/Library
    pwd will show /System/Library
    cd /
    cd /Users
    cd fred
    cd Library
    pwd will show /Users/fred/Library
unix can look very scary but it's actually vital and very necessary to do tasks sometimes that would take for ever to do via the windows. This is good learning.
so for the myfile you had created, i can't tell you where it is, at the time you created, if you can do a pwd command you'll know the path,
ls -la  (this shows all the files where you are)
if you see myfile in the list
    do a pwd
whatever is return, the real location of the file would be:
    whatever pwd returned / myfile
    I hope that makes sense.
