Can I move FCP X events to Dropbox?

I use Dropbox to backup my files. (I realize that strictly speaking Dropbox is for synchronization not backup... bt nevertheless that's what I use) Can I place FCP X events within my Dropbox folder? If I move them there FCP X doesn't know where to look for them, and of course there is no "file, open" option with FCP X.
I would appreciate any feedback
Thanks
David

Hey Chase - sorry I've been busy with an edit; within FCPX (opened) is not where you send out the Final Cut Event folder, or the Final Cut Project folder, you need to close FCPX and in your finder either open your Movies folder (default Final Cut Event and Priject folder location) or navigate to the drive you selected (an option in FCPX Preferences.
When you find the Final Cut Event (folder that all of the media imports to) and/or the Final Cut Project (where the edit saves to along with renders, etc.) then you copy that entire folder to your dropbox.  It is possible to create folders within the Final Cut Event folder or the Final Cut Project folder - so you can only send out a single Event or Project instead of other Events or Projects.
Above - I have a Final Cut Event folder in the root directory of a 3TB drive and within that folder I have 4 Events.  I can upload a single Event (or project) to Dropbox instead of the entire Final cut Event folder which contains multiple Events.  It's kinda late and I am burnt from staring at my project, but I hope I'm making sense.
And not to discourage you or sound closed minded, as I said earlier, it made sense on one occasion for me to upload a Project (Final Cut Project) to Dropbox once, and it worked - but I think it is simply not very efficient - but it depends on the size of your projects and so on.  Technically, yes, you can do it.
Congrats on the free additional space.  -Stephen  (yet another...)

  • Can I move an iPhoto event from Mac to Mac?

My wife and I both have MacBooks with our own iPhoto libraries. Although we each have our own photos in our libraries, there are times when we both want the same photos in our library. Sometimes we simply each download the photos from the camera and do our own thing in our separate libraries. But there are times when we are traveling with the camera and just one MacBook and we'll download photos into events and edit them. When we get home, we often want to move these photos (usually edited and nicely organized into events) to the other MacBook. I've been exporting the photos to a temporary folder, transferring them to the other MacBook over our network or using Firewire, and then importing them into iPhoto on the other MacBook.
Is there a way to move an iPhoto event from one MacBook to another? If so, will it bring the "original" (prior to being edited photos) as well as the edited versions? I understand the whole non-destructive editing thing.
I've looked in Finder, opened iPhoto Library with "Show Package Contents", and noticed that there are folders for each year that I have photos (e.g. 1999, 2000, 2001, etc.), and in each year folder there seems to be a folder for each event. In the event folders are the .jpg files. I was thinking that perhaps I could just copy the event folder from one MacBook to the other (placing it in the same place in the "year" folder), but I wasn't sure if this would screw up the iPhoto database that I drop them into. I'm pretty sure that the "importing" process of getting photos into iPhoto involves more than just dropping photos in a folder.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Use iPhoto Library Manager as Terence suggested. It would work like this .
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Can I move an iCal event from my phone to another calendar?

Every once in a while I add an event and forget to change the calendar from the default "On this phone" to one of the other 3 calendars I set up. After I save an event, the option as to which calendar it's added to disappears and I can no longer change it on my phone. In lieu of that not being possible, I can only think of inputting the event again and deleting the "on my phone" event. Ideas?

I reset my default calendar to one that syncs with my MacBook and MobileMe. Now if I put a calendar event on the phone memory I have to do it intentionally. No solution on how to move an event from the phone but this is a workaround.

  • I can't move photos to events by flagging them

The simplest way to move photos from one event to another is by flagging them, then going to the target event, selecting it, and then going to the menu item 'Move flagged photos to selected event'
But when I do that, nothing at all happens. The photos remain flagged, but don't move.
I have found other ways to move them, but this would be the best, and I am wondering why it doesn't work

    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

  • How can I move my Events and projects to an exterior disc?

When working in FCPX, I have been getting an alert that my (laptop) startup disc is nearly full, and I should delete files to make more space.
How can I move my final cut events and projects to my external drive?
I have already copied the folders Final Cut Pro Events and Final Cut Projects to a LaCie 2T drive, but I hesitate before emptying the trash on my laptop, afraid that FCPX will not be able to see my projects/media.
I am running FCPX 10.0.5 on a MacBook ProRetina with version 10.7.5 OS
Thanks for any help you can give me.

In that version, as I recall, you can simply move the projects and events from one mounted drive to another working from within the FCP UI.  Since you've already  copied the files, see whether they open. You may need to use the Organize (or Consolidate – can't remember) command if your files are not all within the moved event.

  • Can you move events and projects to disk images in iMovie 11?

iMovie 08 allowed you to move events to disk images and keep them there. In other words iMovie 08 saw disk images the same as a hard disk. iMovie 09 lost this and could not recognize disk images. Can an iMovie 11 owner tell me if this functionality has been restored. I liked being able to keep projects in progress in encrypted disk images and away from prying eyes. Thanks!

Yes you can do it with Finder.
I move projects and Events into and out of temporary folders with Finder nearly every day.
Problems arise when you have Events and Projects with identical names on more than one drive. If you're going to do that, put the files on one of the drives into another folder somthat FCP X doesn't recognise them - or eject one of the drives.

  • How can I move an event in my calendar to my "completed" calendar without changing all the events in the series?

How can I move an event in my calendar to my "completed" calendar without changing all the events in the series?
As Apple has yet to upgrade iCalendar so I can check off my events as I complete them (no, I do not want to use a task list/reminder list), I want to be able to move my events to my "completed" events calendar as I complete them. The issue is that most of my events are repeating events, and it changes the entire series. How do I change only the event I clicked on using my iPhone?
    Thanks

If you change anything in a repeating calendar entry it will give you the option of disconnecting it from the series. So may any random change, choose to not change the series.

  • How can I move an event in ical to another calendar without ical resending the event invite to everyone

I have 2 microsoft exchange calendars that I use for work. One is provided by my company, the other is provided by a customer that I do contract work for. The customer prefers to send invites to my email address provided to me by them. Which means that the invite appears on the exchange calendar provided to me by the customer.
That's fine, but I would like for the event to appear on my work calendar so that I can get reminders on my iphone (long story short, the customer does not allow me to connect to their exchange server via my iphone due to security reasons).
So, I go into iCal, open the event and change the calendar for the event. Unfortunately, that causes iCal to resend the invite to everyone involved in the event. This causes alot of confusion, obviously, as now everyone is wanting to know why I sent an invite for an event that is already scheduled.
How can I move events to another calendar without iCal sending another invite to everyone?

If you change anything in a repeating calendar entry it will give you the option of disconnecting it from the series. So may any random change, choose to not change the series.

  • I have an external hard drive which has my i-photo on it & some movies from i-movie that I have on disk now. But for some reason my ehd has a caution symbol on it & I can't move my event to free up space on my hd so that I can export i-movie events. Help!

I have an external hard drive which has my i-photo on it & some movies from i-movie that I have on disk now. But for some reason my ehd has a caution symbol on it & I can't move my event to free up space on my hd so that I can export i-movie events. Help!

Usually the caution symbol means that it's formatted as a PC compatible format like NTFS or most likely FAT32. For iMovie to use it the ehd must be formatted Mac OS Extended. Then iMovie will show it without the caution symbol and you can drag/drop open any Event/Project from that hard drive.
To find out if it's formatted as PC:
Go to the desktop, holding down the Control key click on that ehd and in the pop-menu choose 'Get Info'
Under Format: It will say whether or not it's Mac OS Extended (Journaled). The only way to undo a PC formatted ehd would be to copy everything off of it first, Erase/Format the drive using Disk Utility in the Applications>Utilities folder on your Mac, choosing the Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format in the pull-down menu there.

How can I move a file from photo stream to an event in iPhoto?

Select photo stream on the left panel in iPhoto, then drag and drop the photo from photo stream to Events on the top left under Library.  If you then want to move it to a specific event in your library, click on Events, locate the photo and drag and drop it on the event you want to add it to.

  • How can you move multiple events?

I often need to move chunk of events to another day, usually half a day's worth. Each chunk
may have events from three or four different calendars. Is there any way to select more than one event and move them all at once?
Right now I need to move an entire week's events to a different week two months away. I am not looking forward to moving each of 43 events, from 5 different calendars, over to the other week, one by one, by one, by one, by one...............
Any tricks would really be appreciated.

How about shift-click-select, then either cut or copy and paste them into their new locations? The day and time spacing is maintained, but they'll all be pasted into the same calendar.
Was going to suggest you use list view for the thing, but am just discovering that list view appears to have disappeared.
