Can i move my itunes library to a sdhc card

i am trying to use my pcmcia card in my mercedes, i cannot download my songs from itunes, anyone know how?

To expand on Chris' response - you can drag the entire iTunes folder to the flash drive. You should be able to run your iTunes library from the memory stick. You would have to authorize which ever computer you are using to play any DRM material. When launching iTunes, hold down the 'option' key and follow the dialog.
I have never tried to run my iTunes from an memory stick but I do use external HD so it should also work on a memeory stick - but then again I have been incorrect in the past.

I recently purchased a new 13" MacBook Air to replace my older 17" MacBook Pro.
How can I move my iTunes library to my new MBA?
I also plan on purchasing a new iPhone in the next month or so.  Can I move my songs from my iPod to that too?

Easy. Copy it from the old Mac to the new one.
There are a variety of techniques including Setup Assistant (as soon as you get your new MacBook Air, it will ask you if you want to transfer information from another computer), Migration Assistant (if you elect to transfer information later), enabling file sharing between the two computers, or copying your music to a flash drive or other storage device followed by importing it to iTunes.

Once your music library and everything else you want to transfer from the MacBook Pro resides on the new MBA, sync your iPod to the MBA. Sync the iPhone too when you get it, and they will both have identical iTunes music libraries.

  • HT1449 Can I move my iTunes library onto Time Capsule and share it across my devices (similar to a NAS drive)?

    Hi
Would anyone know if I can I move my iTunes library onto Time Capsule and share it across my devices (similar to a NAS drive)?
This would give me some hard drive space on my iMac and more importantly mean my iTunes library is available all the time. Although I have Home sharing I need my iMac on and if not I use iTunes on iCloud I always seem to be downloading the tracks I need.
    Current configuration / devices:
    iMac 20-inch, Mid 2007 - nearly full!
Processor  2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory  4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
    OSX Mavericks
    Time Capsule (1TB)
    iPad
    iPod Touch
    Apple TV
    iTunes 11.1.5 (5)
    Many thanks

What "devices" are these?  By devices I normally understand i-devices and not computers.  How many computers?
If you put the whole library on the Time Capsule (TC) you can only use it with one computer at a time because the iTunes library file can only be opened by one copy of iTunes at a time.  If you put only media on the TC but have a copy of the library files on each computer you can use media by multiple computers but you then have the headache of trying to make sure that any changes done to the collection by one computer are mirrored by the libraries on the other computers which will be more or less independent.
I hope this TC isn't also your backup drive.  When the TC drive fails (and it will someday) then your whole collection is gone.  Don't rely upon Apple to always have copies for you to download.  For one, if a distributor puylls an item then it is gone period.  Additionally, Apple only keeps media, not the actual organization that is your set of library files.  If you do this, buy another backup drive.

  • Hi, can I move my iTunes library to an external hardrive without having to consolidate it as my prehistoric computer just doesn't have the space even though I have deleted everything possible to make room? Please help :(

Hi, can I move my iTunes library to an external drive without having to consolidate it as my prehistoric computer just doesn't have enough space even though I have deleted everything possible to make room? Please help

Hi, do you know if this works if I then want to move my library to a new computer as that is my main intention bacause my old computer hasn't got enough space for me to add new albums so I want to ditch the computer (its got to be about 100 years old and doesn't seem to cope well with modern technology!!) and start using my laptop for my iTunes. I am at the point now where i'm ready to throw both my computer and iPod out the window!!!! I might point out as well that in trying to clear space on my computer I accidently deleted the Bonjour programme which is aparently needed to use the home share option, oops!!!!
    Thanks, Kerry

  • Can I move an iTunes library from Comp1 to Comp2 through Home Sharing?  What happens with the first sync?  What happens to 3rd party app data (specifically, game scores/levels)?

I need to move an iTunes library from Computer 1 to Computer 2.  Can I do this through Home Sharing, by dragging and dropping library items from one to the other?  The library consists of iTunes purchases, home shared items and music/movies from our personal collection.  Both computers have had all the accounts authorized, so I don't anticipate an issue there.  I'd like to do this so that my son's ipod is impacted as little as possible -- specifically, his game scores/levels and other 3rd party data remain intact after the 1st sync and the organization of his icons remain intact.
Is there a way to do this smoothly and easily, protecting his ipod data/organization?

Sorry, I obviously wasn't clear. If you replicate the library from Computer 1 to Computer 2 by copying it, then all will be well. I routinely sync my iPhone and iPad both at home and at work using a single library that I migrate between the two locations via an external drive which is kept up do date using SyncToy.
Backup the iPod touch on Computer 1.
Copy the entire iTunes folder from Computer 1 to Computer 2, replacing any existing iTunes folder on Computer 2.
Check that content is accessible in the migrated library. (Won't be a problem for a standard iTunes library where all the content is inside the iTunes Media folder which in turn is inside your iTunes folder).
Connect iPod touch to Computer 2.
    Sync.
In the unlikely event that something goes wrong (it won't) then you can connect the device back to Computer 1 to restore it.
Note device backups are not stored within the iTunes library and stay on the machine on which they were created. It is theorectically possible to migrate them but there isn't really any point. Once you have synced the iPod with the copy of the library on Computer 2 then Computer 2 will make its own backup of the device.

  • How can I move my iTunes library to an external hard drive?

Because I can only sync my iPhone with iTunes on one computer, I want to know how to move my iTunes library to a new computer when I get one.

Locate one of the song files on the old computer, go up the folder structure until you reach the iTunes folder, and move the entire folder over.

  • Can I move my itunes library to icloud so i'm not using my computers memory?, can I move my itunes library to icloud so i'm not using my computers memeory?

I currently have my itunes library saved to my hard drive but my computer is super slow because of my library.  I purchased itunes match so I can share my music which i think is great, but I thought that it would keep my library in the cloud and not on my computer.  So the question is can i save my library to the cloud only?  My library use to be on an external which died and I lost so much music that I had and was only able to recover from the CD's I still had.  I don't want to rely on an external again.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated!!

    Hello dreid20,
Indeed, you can move your iTunes Library to a network volume. The only stipulation to keep in mind is that you'll need to be connected to this volume before launching iTunes for it to function properly.

  • Can I move my iTunes library from a Mac to a PC? (iOS to Windows 7)?

    Hi everyone,
I currently have an 24" iMac, but I'll be traveling overseas and I'd rather not have a MBP (I know, right?!).
I am planning to get a Sony laptop.  Is it possible to move my iTunes library over?
    Please let me know! =D
My iTunes library is almost 600GB. (not sure if that matters).

    Yes.

iTunes: How to move [or copy] your music [library] to a new computer [or another drive] - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527 - a somewhat bewildering and not always easily understandable set of options.
Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Open iTunes and immediately hold down the Option (alt) key (shift on Windows), then guide it to the iTunes Library.itl file in the moved iTunes folder.
For the record there's this reference for iTunes 11 but it really doesn't strike me as having the specifics you need. iTunes 11 for Mac: Move your library to another computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12168

If you put it in the default location of Macintosh HD > Users > *User Name* > Music  then you don't even need to start with the option key held down, iTunes will automatically look for it there.  (Make sure there isn't anything already in the iTunes folder there that you want to keep since you will be replacing it with the one you are moving.)

  • Can I move an iTunes Library to a different disk/account?

It's probably been covered before, but what will happen if I move the Library file and the .xml file from the iTunes Folder to another disk (Internal PBP17).
I started using an External Disk when my library outgrew my internal drive. I went about it incorrectly and had a bad time  re-creating my library. All 9000 songs are back and all is well. The quandry is how to keep my internal updated with the new activity from my external drive were my 'normal' library lives. The full Library is almost at 1 TB now
The active library lives on a 2 TB LaCie d2 external Drive. A Dupe drive, of the original, backs up the library every day with CCC. I only want keep a 150 GB from the External (home) library backed up on the internal PBP17 (for travel). as the other content would not fit.
How to keep the internal PBP17 Synced with the External? I looked at several 'sync folder apps' but they seem to fail with the Structure of the permissions on the iTunes Music Folder in the Media Folder. I would like keep the Music/Apps/Ringtones/Podcasts synced and not bring the Movies or TV to the internal, which has 550GB standard Apple drive, to keep the space open on the internal.
Is there an easy way or am I forced to do it piece by piece? I Initially copied the Music Folder from the current library to the Internal drives iTunes folder then had iTunes find the data. This resets everything and I lose Playlists/Playcounts/ and other pertinent data.
Can I just drag the iTunes Library and .xml files over to the internal or am I going to be in for a world of hurt?

Well I read here that moving the folder to a new Drive was no biggy. I knew that I was worried about just moving a portion on the folder over (just music and a few movies). But I moved it and all is perfect. For a little while I thought I lost my Music Output. I had turned off the connection in the multiple speakers pref, bottom of iTunes window..
All is spectacular again. Oki Doki

  • How can I move my iTunes library to a new location?

At the moment, my iTunes library is split across two hard drives, (22gb roughly on each). This was mainly so that if one drive failed, I didn't lose all my music. Anyway, I now have two 1tb drives and I want to move the entire library into a centralised location on one drive. I tried following the steps in this link: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1364 but it was utterly useless (I have iTunes 10.4).
Right now, I have all my albums grouped into a folder called 'Albums' and for singles or albums where I only kept a few tracks I have the tracks organized into seperate folders according to genre. I want to keep this folder structure but have it in a centralised location instead of split across two disks. How can I do this?
