Can I obtain Mavericks reinstall dvd - laptop is broke?

I own a 2nd hand MacBookPro on Mavericks. After using it I have a boot up problem and wish to reinstall the OS without losing the software. I have no back up. My other computer is old Tiger iMac. Also have an iPad mini. How do I accomplish this and can I obtain MavericksDVD?

Thanks for answer, but it's not working for me. Any time I use Command key on its own or in combination at start up just brings me to a password padlock screen - as soon as I enter password it goes to apple screen with rotating symbol and then sticks right there.  If I have a Recovery Partition then I think I might have blown it.
Was hoping to stick a System dvd in the drive and choose that to start up but dont seem available to purchase.

You can do it. This article from Macworld will be helpful to you:

    I recommend the "brute-force" method.
Just make sure you have your data backed up properly!

The download contains both versions and the same registration key will activate both of them.

Download AA 9 Pro from http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/acrobat-downloads.html. Make a new backup for your archive. You might also take the DVD to your library to see if it is a drive problem. You might also carefully clean the DVD with water and soap (do not use anything that would scratch the surface or you have destroyed it for sure) and see if that solves the problem. This is particularly an issue if you have finger prints or other crud on the DVD. However, it could also be a bad drive as I mentioned. Hopefully the download solves your problem in any case (I would backup the download to CD and/or backup HD).

    many thanks.
I'd start with the following document, with one modification. At step 12 after typing GEARAspiWDM press the Enter/Return key once prior to clicking OK. (Pressing Return adds a carriage return in the field and is important.)

  • Can I make a bootable DVD from the Mavericks download. I would like to wipe my iMac and start over.

Can I make a bootable DVD from the app store download of Mavericks. I wish to wipe my iMac clean and start over
    thanks in anticipation

Well you can make a bootable dvd this way:
After downloading the Install OS X Mavericks.app file from the Mac App Store, run these 12 commands in Terminal to create a Mavericks.iso file and then burn it to a dual layer DVD with Disk Utility. You may then boot up from it by holding the option key down and then install mavericks. This will not install a recovery partition. To do that, uncompress and run the script file https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/13872235/Musings/Recovery%20Partition%20Crea tor%203.7.zip
    hdiutil attach /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Mavericks.app/Contents/SharedSupport/InstallESD.dmg -noverify -nobrowse -mountpoint /Volumes/install_app
    hdiutil convert /Volumes/install_app/BaseSystem.dmg -format UDSP -o /tmp/Mavericks
    hdiutil resize -size 8g /tmp/Mavericks.sparseimage
hdiutil attach /tmp/Mavericks.sparseimage -noverify -nobrowse -mountpoint /Volumes/install_build
    rm /Volumes/install_build/System/Installation/Packages
    cp -rp /Volumes/install_app/Packages /Volumes/install_build/System/Installation/
    hdiutil detach /Volumes/install_app
    hdiutil detach /Volumes/install_build
    hdiutil resize -size `hdiutil resize -limits /tmp/Mavericks.sparseimage | tail -n 1 | awk '{ print $1 }'`b /tmp/Mavericks.sparseimage
    hdiutil convert /tmp/Mavericks.sparseimage -format UDTO -o /tmp/Mavericks
    rm /tmp/Mavericks.sparseimage
    mv /tmp/Mavericks.cdr ~/Desktop/Mavericks.iso

I'm running Windows 7 RC on my iMac. This was downloaded from Technet when it was available. The disk image I downloaded was then burned to a DVD-RW for the installation.

Hi, no idea if this works in 10.4.x, but...

Might have a couple of other ideas if it doesn't.
Hmmmm, looks like 10.5.2 might be required for that, let me know...

  • Can os x mavericks be burned to a dvd

Can os x mavericks be burned to a dvd

There's an easier way if you're trying to create a bootable installation drive...
First, buy an 8+GB USB flash drive - they're very inexpensive. Then download the new Mavericks (10.9.2) from the Mac App Store. When you get to the install screen, quit and you'll find an app named "Install Mac OS Mavericks.app" in your Applications folder. Download DiskMaker X, plug in the USB drive and open DiskMaker X - it will find the installer and create a bootable installer. Then you'll be able to boot from it and install mavericks on any machine.
With a larger flash drive you can actually install Mavericks on it - but you wouldn't be able to use it as an installer. Not sure why you'd want to create a Mavericks system on a DVD but as far as I know, it simply wouldn't fit on a dual-layer DVD.
