i create my pages using the automate tool on photoshop. until now i used a pc (iknow, iknow!) to edit the pages by using frontpage. but i have bought an imac now and front page doesnt do macs. is there a way to use iweb to edit the web files i make in photoshop? pl help with any advise. thanks, naba

No, iweb cannot import or edit anything. You can try copy/pasting or drag/drop your stuff into an iweb template and see how it works.

Pages created by other applications

I have some applications which create html from within them to post on the web. I have my own domain, and have had no issues creating pages with links to these pages. With iWeb, how do I create a dead link, so I can add the pages to the site folder? Does this make any sense?

In iWeb you can attach a hyperlink to almost any element....photos, graphics, text. Just use the Inspector Hyperlink tab to "Enable [the selected element] as hyperlink" and then you can enter any properly formed URL. If you put the HTML files you create in a separate folder in the same directory level of your site folder, then you would just enter the url like: http://www.yourdomain.com/myhtmlfolder/myhtmlfile.html
Furthermore, if you want to make your link appear like all the other links in the navigation menu on iWeb pages, you can follow the directions here on Will Englefield's tutorial page and make simple redirection links to your html pages...

Publishing webpages on .mac created by other applications (not iWeb)

I've got a web page and linked files in a subfolder - all created by Powerpoint.
I would like to publish this on my .mac account site - but can't figure out how to do it.
Any suggestions?

In addition to what i wrote earlier.
When saving the PP to a webpage, create a folder first with a suitable name ( ppt for example. DotMac is case-sensitive).
Then save the file as index.html in that folder.
Not as presentationname.htm.
That way you need not type the filename.
Then drop the folder in the Sites folder or Web>Sites folder on your iDisk.
The URL will be:
http://homepage.mac.com/dotMacID/ppt/
or
http://web.mac.com/dotMacID/ppt/

Using .mac with pages created by other apps

Is there a way to publish pages created by other applications to .Mac?
This may seem like a silly thing, but every year I run an NCAA basketball pool (all legal, of course). I have run this on my web site with my own domain, but would like to make the switch to my .Mac site. The software that I use to run the pool creates web files to upload to your site. With my old site, I would just create a page with a link to the pages, and upload everything. Is there a way to add files to your .Mac web folder somehow? Does this make any sense?

Sure there is...
Publish your files to a folder, then copy the whole folder to your iDisk/Sites/ folder. To get your iDisk mounted to your desktop, look under the Go menu of the Finder, then select "iDisk", then select "My iDisk".
For example....if you publish your b-ball pool site to a folder called "bball". Then copy this folder to Sites folder at the root of your iDisk. You can then, access the web pages at the following Homepages URL:
http://homepage.mac.com/yourdotmacname/bball/index.html (substitute your .Mac username and the appropriate start page name, of course).
That's it!
This is different from your iWeb site, but if you ever design pages in iWeb and publish them, you can simply provide a link on those pages to the above Homepages URL.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try to launch one of the problem apps. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

Can't open pages documents I created 3 days ago with Pages 5.2

You have 2 versions of Pages on your Mac.
Pages 5.2 is in your Applications folder.
Pages '09/'08 is in your Applications/iWork folder.
You are alternately opening the wrong versions.
Pages '09/'08 can not open Pages 5 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Previous Pages 5 versions can not open Pages 5.2 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5 can open Pages '09 files but may damage/alter them. It can not open Pages '08 files at all.
Once opened and saved in Pages 5 the Pages '09 files can not be opened in Pages '09.
Once opened and saved in Pages 5.2 files can not be opened in previous Pages 5 versions.
Anything that is saved to iCloud is also converted to Pages 5 files.
All Pages files no matter what version and incompatibility have the same extension .pages.
Pages 5 files are now only compatible with themselves on a very restricted set of hardware, software and Operating Systems and will not transfer correctly on any other server software than iCloud.
Apple has removed over 95 features from Pages 5 and added many bugs:

Archive/trash Pages 5, after exporting all Pages 5 files to Pages '09 or Word .docx, and rate/review it in the App Store, then get back to work.

Well, here's what I found out that works for me...
I had a Pages icon on my dock, and launching it brought up version 4.3. But I went to my Apps folder and found the new updated icon there and when I launced that it brought up version 5.01. So apparently the Apple update process left two versions launchable on my iMac. Weird...

Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.

Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

I can't open Pages app on iMac

Hi all, I can't open Pages app on my computer. These are the specs:
iMac 2.8 GHz Intel Core i5, 4GB, 2/3 of a TB free storage capacity,
Yosemite version 10.10.2
Originally I had iWork 09 and since I've been updating from the app store since they are available in there. Now version 5.5.2
I wanted to create a new document and explore the templates available for it but when I click the icon of the Pages app or the name in the Finder apps list, it won't open, instead it opens another window for me to choose what I want to open -see pic below-, and as you can see from the light gray color I can't choose the app from there.
I open the app store to see if I needed to update it and it is already done. So I don't know what to do... Can anybody help please? Thanks

If one clicks that extreme left icon, the Favorites panel disappears, leaving the Application view we see posted. Additionally, the OP has the
Finder Preferences ▸ Advanced ▸ All My Files checked, instead of their login directory (house icon).
This just adds to the mayhem. Once Finder Preferences is fixed, then the OP can click Applications, and from that lengthy menu, select their login directory, or Documents.
Why the OP did not just click New Document and review the bundled templates, is a question mark. Or click Launchpad in the Dock, to launch Pages.

Can't open Pages Documents

I've upgraded all my iWork documents and now I can't open things in Pages. I'm stuck on an endless loop of "You need to be using the most updated version .... which you can get in the app store.... blah blah blah" I'm suing the most up-to-date versioin. I'm using Pages 4.3 and the document I'm trying to open was created using the most updated version. HELP.

You have both versions of Pages on your Mac and are simply opening the wrong document in the wrong version.
Pages 5 is in your Applications folder.
Pages '09 is in your Applications/iWork folder.
Pages ;'09 can not open Pages 5 documents and Pages 5 will alter/damage older Pages '09 files and not open any other.
Pages 5 is very much a downgrade missing over 90+ features.
Best to go back to using Pages '09:

I upgraded my Mac from OSX 10.5.8 to Snow Leopard and then to Mountain Lion 10.8.2. I did have Microsoft Office for Mac 2004 in my applications and now get a message "can't open Office because Power PC applications are no longer supported."

When I try to access my Microsoft Office for MAC (2004 edition) files I am getting a message "can't open Office because Power PC applications are no longer supported. How can I access all of my save Word documents? I just want to be able to retrieve all of my documents that were in Microsoft Office for Mac (2004). If I purchase the newest version of MS office for Mac from Apple will I be able to retrieve my old documents?

Use any number of free alternatives to your nearly decade old version of MS Office.

Either you have access to Pages ’08 v3, Pages ’09 v4, or neither. One of these older, but more functional versions of Pages can open, and export the document in question to Word. Preview on OS X 10.9.5 and Yosemite can view Pages ’08 documents (in my experience). It is not obvious to me that Preview may be using the installed Pages ’09 v4.3 to assist in opening these '08 documents.
Once opened in Preview, you can select/paste text into Pages v5.2.2, or v5.5. If you want the images from the PDF, then export it from Preview as PDF, and then drag/drop onto latest free LibreOffice icon in the Dock, which will open the PDF for editing. Select, copy, and paste the images into Pages v5, or incorporate into Text boxes, or Shapes. When pasted, images will be in their original size/resolution, not necessarily as small as they appear in the PDF.
If the second paragraph is a chore, then follow Peggy's advice above on the sources for purchase of Pages ’09.
In the future, I would not recommend trusting document architecture to Apple, and use a more accessible format (.doc/x) for better cross-platform access, longevity, and application choice. You may find LibreOffice, or Office for Mac 2011 a better choice for features.

Can't Open Pages

Can't open pages or keynote or numbers.
There is a question mark over all of the applications on the dock, and they don't show up in my applications folder in finder. I tried finding them in the spotlight and they didn't show up there either. I tried updating the software and got this message:
An eligible Keynote application was not found in the location /Applications/iWork '09.
Pages won't let me open any documents that I have done in pages. Please help because I use pages and other iwork applications for everything in school.

I don't know which one it is because he never told me, when I got my computer back I noticed iwork was on my computer and it has always worked just fine until like two days ago when it wouldn't open a pages document that I had been working on earlier that day. He never gave me any information about it so I don't have a serial number and I don't have a dvd. I can't access a serial number if there is one because basically I guess iwork doesn't exist on my computer right now. I'm sorry if this isn't helpful but that is all I know.
