first, there is no 5th gen. only 4th gen 2011 edition. so wt u got is right.
the only difference between 2010 4g n 2011 4g is there is a white ipod touch. thats all

If you mean the one in the upper right when looking at the back it is the antenna cover. The plastic allows the radio waves to get the antenna.

If you sync automatically, you can choose specific playlists to sync. If you sync manually, you can drag songs to your device.

I've seen on apple's pictures of the ipod 5th generation that it has a battery percentage. Yet i can't find out how to turn it on? does anyone know how to?

When looking on the apple website and iTunes you can see that the picture of the ipod touch 5th gen has a battery percentage indicator but i can't seem to fing the option to turn it on?! Is there actually an option or has apple just added a feature in the photo in which the ipod dosen't contain?

The 5G does not come with a % battery in upper right. The phtos were incorrect. You may be able to add it by:

To initially set up the iPod you need an internet connection. You can setup the iPod via USB with a computer that has an internet connection or using only the iPod with wifi connection to the internet.
After that yo do not need an internet connection to use the iPod for tkings that do not require an Internet connection.

Hey Sierra, You can do just what you have stated. My question, what is your "other"? If it is over 1.5 GB you most likely have corrupt files. Doing a Restore to New, Factory restore should correct it. Just make sure you make a full backup of all information on your iPod to your computer before you restore, so you don't lose your stuff, contacts, videos, pictures, non-iTunes music, etc, use the cable and connect with your computer. Then, via cable, connect to your computer, run the Restore to new, don't use your backup. Treat this iPod as if it was your first one ever. When restore is done, set up and add what info you wish to install on this iPod. The music apps etc you purchased should be on your computer, if not you should be able to retrieve purchased apps and music from iTunes. Any music, videos, apps not purchased from iTunes will be lost to you if you do not save them to your computer or the cloud first. When your done, make a current Backup and you should good to go. Right after that, the iPod shut down completely and now it's on recovery mode. I plugged it in and it said that I had to restore it and update it so I could use it again but it doesn't let me. Without knowing that:
Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try another cable
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
