Can I output a 1080I & 720P Quicktime mov from NTSC source video in FCP?

I have a client who wants me to take NTSC Digibeta source masters and create 1080I and 720P Quicktime files. I believe that FCP will let me do that, but wanted to make absolutely sure before I proceed.
Thanks guys!

Blowing up an SD source to 4 to 10 times larger than the original? Can you say, "eeeew?"
Yes, you can...if you use COMPRESSOR...and the Advanced Conversion options. And choose custom controls to make all the conversion settings to be BEST. This will take a WHILE...but it will work.
Or...buy a Kona 3 and a high speed RAID and the Kona will upconvert for you when you capture.
Hold on...what SORT of files? Like the 720 and 1080 TRAILERS you see on Apple? Or HD Deliverable files?

  • Quicktime 7.5.5 will not download quicktime movies from webpage sources

I had no difficulty downloading movies before I upgraded to 7.5.5. All I had to do was click on the down-pointing arrow on the lower right-hand corner of the preview, and I could make a permanent copy of the download. I cannot do that with 7.5.5 altho' the help menu says I should be able to. Instead of showing the movie on preview as it used to on a screen that had the necessary arrow, now those movies go directly to the quicktime movie program and there is no way I can see to save the download permanently.
So where are these movies going? They're not protected, I know, since I was able to download from the same sources before, and they are not pay sites.
I have leopard 10.5.5 on an intell iMac.

That's professionally terse and should be informative, but it doesn't help at all since it doesn't happen to be true. I never had pro, nor was I ever able to ''Save As'' with the qt version I had. The new quicktime 7.5.5 does claim I should be able to save such movies however. In its instructions under ''help'', it informs me that I should first see a sample movie, centered on the computer screen, and that movie panel should have, on its lower right-hand corner, a down-pointing arrow which, when clicked on, offers 3 options, one of which is ''save as quicktime movie''. I should see that screen, and according to the 7.5.5 instructions, I should have those options. I used to, with the earlier qt version, but I don't anymore - not with 7.5.5. Unfortunately, that particular preview movie screen never opens. Instead, the movie immediately opens on the qt screen in the upper left-hand corner of the computer and is impossible to save. Of course, the publicity for the upgrade says that all these movies are stored in the quicktime browser's cache, but I can't find the cache so while they may be there, we'll apparently never know - unless, of course, you happen to know how to open the browser cache.
    Do you?

  • Can you make a quicktime movie from a uTube video?

I can watch a particular UTube video on my computers (iMac, Macbook), but not on my iOS devices ('not available on this platform').
Is there a way to download this video in Quicktime, or .MOV etc. format?  I'd like to be able to share it with those who have iOS devices.
Thanks for any help of advice!

As I thought. Thank you for the reply Dan. I thought I'd ask in case I'd missed some hidden setting.

  • How can I export a graphic slide with a quicktime movie from Keynote?

I export a title slide with a quicktime movie from Keynote to my desktop and it plays fine with audio. Once I insert or drag the clip into iWeb the resolution is degraded and very choppy. The resolution is 320x200 and I'm exporting from Keynote as a custom size (320x200) Frame rate: 29.97 Key Frames: Automatic Key Reordering is checked Data Rate: Automatic Quality: Multi pass. I need some help.

how large is the video and if you publish - does it still have the same horrible quality?
you might considering exporting as flash (loads faster) and integrating that into your iweb site using post-editing: http://karreth.com/index.php/articles/iframes-iweb/

  • Apple TV 1st generation- can't seem to transfer rented Itune movies from my Mac to the Apple TV

Apple TV 1st generation- can't seem to transfer rented Itune movies from my Mac to the Apple TV

You need to establish if it was 1080p or 720p HD you downloaded.
If it's 1080p it will not play at all on AppleTV1 - the hardware is not powerful enough to decode 1080p h264 (or 720p above 25fps).  When AppleTv1 came out most items were SD only and with time more 720p HD stuff became available.  1080p content cm after AppleTV 1 and 2 were replaced by AppleTV 3.
AppleTV2 can process but not display 1080p - it is stuck to 720p output.
AppleTV1 could only process 720p max, but could always upscale on output to 1080p!
Your iTunes Preference should determine what quality you are downloading/renting.

  • No more alpha in exported QuickTime movie from Keynote '09

    Hello
In Keynote '08, I create a slide with no background (None).
I add some text with some fancy text IN and OUT features.
I export using the Animation codec and the transparency option.
When I reimport the movie in another Keynote '08 file, it inherits the transparency of the imported file and thus everything is perfectly blended.
In Keynote '09 it is not possible anymore.
Even if I import an exported QuickTime movie from Motion with a transparent background, it is not possible to have a perfect blend, all layers are opaque.
Last but not the least, adding transparent files on top of each other in QuickTime player does not preserve transparency despite the fact that the Animation + transparency features are added in the files.
    Thank you in advance.

Hey Gary - first off, thanks for your reply! I am currently forcing spotlight to re-index to see if that might help me out. After that I will try your suggestion and run a system software check.
I need a ProRes export as this is going to be combined with IMAG footage from a live presentation as well as additional video from an Arri Alexa. I want to preserve as much quality as possible so that there isn't a discrepancy in the final edit. Originally, I was rendering a small test to the desktop to gauge output quality of animations etc. I did go ahead and re-export a second time to an external drive, but it doesn't seem to matter as Keynote appears to initially render everything to the startup drive no matter what. The second export still ate about 15 gigs from my startup disk and I am unable to find any sort of temp files anywhere!
I am showing all files in Finder and searching around the ~/private/tmp folders to no avail. In the image below there appears to be a discrepancy in the size being reported by finder and the size I'm seeing listed in terminal...

  • How do you view quicktime movies from MAC to TV?

I'd like to view quicktime movies from my MacBook Pro to HDTV. What do I need to do?

Not every retailer carries mini-DP to HDMI adaptors, so you might want to call ahead. If you find one, make sure that it carries audio - some won't. You can certainly find them online. Apple normally stocks a Moshi version which supports audio, but they're back-ordered at the moment. If you have trouble finding them locally, try newegg.com.
Edit: meant to add, a newer option is to get an AppleTV v3 connected to your TV, connect it to your wireless network, and mirror your Macbook Pro to the AppleTV using Airplay Mirroring. May even not be much more expensive than the adaptor+cable option. Details here:

  • Quicktime moves from FCP

Ok - I'm officially out of my depth.
After 6 months editing a lorryload of 4x3 miniDV interviews I finally got sign-off this morning.
Client wants a quick DVD to watch over Chritmas, so I Export Quicktime movies (normal, no conversion) of all 10 timelines, simply adding .mov on the end.
I make a 4x3 DVD project in iDVD, and drop in the QT moves.
All fine and dandy, but one, just ONE of these movies insists in playing all squeezed out in 16x9.
The odd thing is that this is the second time I've done this. Last week I went through the same process, and the same clip was playing out in 16x9.
These are all new clips (I've changed the edit since then), and it's a brand new iDVD project.
    But same result.
I've checked the rogue clip in QT and iTunes, and it plays just the same as all the others.
So I tried MPEGStreamclip - and noticed some full screen red rogue frames, which suggested a problem.
I checked the other clips - they all have the red rogue frames - even though they behave normally in iDVD.
    What might be causing this?
I'm tried re-Exporting all the clips as 100% Quicktime movies from Streamclip.
The files were all much bigger then the originals. How can that be happening?
But when I reload them in Streamclip they still have the red flashes.
I've tried doing a SaveAs from Quicktime - still red flashes.
Even MPE4 versions - red flashes - and these show up in iDVD too.
Any advice gratefully received. I'm running out of time here
    Thanks
    Tom

I forget to mention that I made the original movies on a MacBook Pro running Tiger and QT 7.6.4, but was trying to make the iDVD on a new machine running Snow Leopard and QT10 - because it has a much faster burner and I'm in a hurry!
I'm now trying to make the iDVD on the older machine and there is no sign of the red flashes - plus that rogue movies plays normally.
    Phew... BUT
Someone else is making the real, proper DVD - what will happen when he tried to pick up these quicktime movies on and AVID (pre version 5)?
    Thanks
    Tom

  • Viewing quicktime movies from iphoto 08

I just upgrade to Snow Leopard, I use to be able to view quicktime movies from Iphotos in Leopard, now if i click on the movie nothing happens, From Quicktime doesnt seem to want to open my library where the movies are located. These are small video max 30 secs from my digital camera?

If I upgrade to iphoto 09 will this problem go away?
No. Not if you don't install Quicktime 7 Player from the Snow Leopard install disk. You can do a custom install and select the Quicktime 7 Player as the only item to install. That should fix the issue.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: The new rebuild option in iPhoto 09 (v. 8.0.2), Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" makes this tip obsolete.

  • Not able to export quicktime movie from Flash CS5 or CS6.

Hi! I am not able to export quicktime movie from Flash CS5 or CS6. When I export it the progress bar is showing and says Recording Flash content and nothing happens

I havent exported any videos in the past from Flash. The movie is around 45 seconds and the size is 470KB.
I tried both, the memory and the hard drive.
In the attached image you can see the settings and in the other image you can see the progress bar that remains without something to happen.
I dont mind what type of video to export it can be also .avi but again I have troubles there. It is very large and the animation is distorted.
The animation consist from two scenes. The first one can be exported without any problem but the second one cannot be exported. May be because it has some masks layers and guide layers?

  • Are Quicktime movies from fcpx  or Motion 5 self contained

Maybe a dumb question but once I export a quicktime move from FCP X or Motion 5, can I delete all the files I used in the project?
    Thanks

    YES....
The movie after rendering out to a Master file is self contained. It is being recoded meaning that new frames are being written to the movie...
Still --- ONLY delete AFTER you are sure that it is safe to do so ;-)
