Can I output to my TV with big frame sizes

Hi guys..
I always though I could store a video on the ipod as frame size 720 by 576 and when outputed to the tv, it play at this frame size. When played on my ipod, it downsizes it to fit. Is this right?
Basically I just want my home video dvds, when converted on \to the ipod, to fit the whole screen of my tv in the same quality it is when I insert my home videos into the dvd player, is this possible.

No, you cannot store full-size video on an iPod. It supports 320x240 in H264 and 480x480 in MPEG, or any other resolution whose total pixel count is lower than the above. The iPod's processor simply cannot handle anything bigger and the battery would drain too fast if anything bigger was used.
You can't get the same quality as DVD (as I said in the other post), but it looks pretty good.
If you import your video at the highest bitrate possible and at 320x240 (the iPod's screen resolution), there won't be much (if any) noticeable difference in quality. What you will see, though, is less detail, especially in smaller or distant objects in the video. For example, if you are watching a video that is zooming out from a scene, you will notice that detail disappears sooner than if you watched it on a DVD. Also, if there are immobile, straight lines at an angle in a video (especially a cartoon where the lines are very straight) then you will notice some small steps, which are a result of the video's pixels being stretched to 2x2 pixel squares. Other than that, there aren't many other problems with video quality that I have seen, as long as the bitrate is kept high.
Basically, the iPod is a very mobile video player. Because it's so small and because its processor is limited in power, it cannot handle full-resolution video. It will look good on a TV that is approx 30 inches or smaller, but don't expect anything spectacular on a big-screen TV. If you're using a large TV (bigger than 30 inches) then you should really be using a DVD, not an iPod.
So, if you want to show your friends some home video on an average size TV then the iPod is fine in terms of quality.

  • Can I output for flash 7 with adobe media encoder

    Our Flash Player 7 needs to play this movie.
    Adobe Media Encoder doesn't seem to give me many options for what Flash Player my output file will work with.
    But I don't know much about video so maybe there's a way.
    Anyone know?

    Look at it from the viewpoint of what codecs the player will accept, and proceed from there.

  • Can you make ContactSheet working properly with the different size of photos?

    i have two photos of size 2000 px X 1500 px  and 2000 px X 1350 px ... i can not have the Contact Sheet to combine two photos accordingly, "2000 px X 1500 px" locate in the top of the page and "2000 px X 1350 px" follow the first photo...
    there is no issue in doing the first photo, but the second photo is always shrink with a smaller size (width is changed to less than 2000 px) photo...
    is this normal that it will not work accordingly with different size photos?...
    if not, how can i make it work with different size photos?...
    cheers,

    Different size layers containing various aspect ratio images would be hard to distribute onto a document canvas. Would be like piecing a jig saw puzzle together. Where image contend has no bearing on where its location should be. Like laying out a slate patio of random size slates. There is no correct solution you need a good layout where slate size fit well together where spacing between them are nearly the same. Then you need to rearrange the slates for a better visual composition. Constrained to a rectangle canvas no image left out no image trimming or resizing minimal white space.  A hard puzzle.. Canvas area and aspect ratio, image area and aspect ratios no one correct solution.

  • UITableView with custom frame size within a UINavigationController... how?

    I've seen similar questions asked all over the web, but so far not a single "real" answer has cropped up, so hopefully you folks will know the way to do this.
    I have a main view that with a UIView subview, inside of which I am programmatically adding a UINavigationController and UITableView that is encapsulated in a +regular UIViewController+, to allow it to be pushed/popped onto the navigation controller. I'm essentially just trying to get a table+navcontroller combination that only takes up about half the screen height.
    The problem isn't that it doesn't work, because I have no problem getting the table and navigation controller working together as expected. The problem is that no matter what I do or try, I cannot get the table view to be smaller (in height), than full-size, meaning that when contained in this ~200px navcontroller-in-subview, there are a large number of rows the user cannot select because attempting to scroll to them immediately "bounces" back. You can see that the rows are there when you "pull" the scroll down, but can never get it to stay.
    As it appears, the table view is too large in height. I've gone as far as setting the table to a height of 10, to no avail. Autoresize masks have no effect.
    Please note that I'm NOT using an instance of UITableViewController, but rather the plain vanilla UIViewController, because creating an instance of the former automatically creates the underlying UITableView, which was always sized to large, as well. I had some advice that I should attempt creating the table and view controller independently, add the former to the latter and then push the view controller onto the navigation controller. Again, this does work, but the size is all out of whack.
    Finally, in quick psuedo-code, this is essentially what I'm doing:
    (this is found in MainViewController::viewDidLoad)
    CGRect frame = subviewContainer.frame;
    frame.size.height = 10;
    frame.origin.x = 0;
    frame.origin.y = 0;
    UITableView* table = [[UITableView alloc] initWithFrame:frame];
    table.autoresizesMask = UIViewAutoresizingNone;
    UIViewController* tVC = [[UIViewController alloc] init];
    tVC.view = table;
    UINavigationController* navC = [[UINavigationController alloc] initWithRootViewController:tVC];
    [subviewContainer addSubview:navC.view];
    Thanks for any tips you might have: this is quite the frustrating problem!

    I have an app that is absolutely kicking my butt. I have a UITabBarController that contains a UINavigationController that contains a custom UIViewController. When the user rotates the iPhone, I want to hide the navigation bar, hide the tab bar and swap out a UIImageView in the custom view controller and I want the image to be full-screen. I've figured out how to get rid of the navigation and tab bars, but making the UIImageView full-screen is what's killing me. When the image shows up, it is the size it would be if the tab bar was visible. In the didRotateFromInterfaceOrientation method, I hide the tab bar by doing:
    tabBar.hidden = YES;
    I've tried resizing the UIImageView by doing:
    img.frame = CGRectMake(0.0, 0.0, 320.0, 480.0);
    but that just screws up the image even more. I tried resizing the tabBarController's view, and I've tried resizing the current view, but alas to no avail.
    Can anyone help me not be stupid?
    Thanks!

  • Why LV 6.1 and Nidaq 6.9.3 can't acquire low sampling rate and high frame size

    My platform is LV 6.1, Nidaq 6.9 on win98
    Everytime i want to acquire data with sampling rate 6 Hz
    and frame size 7200, it acquire just 2 or more data (under 10 data), never 7200 data.

    Greetings,
    I assume by "frame size" you are referring to the numbers of samples to acquire. Please launch the "Find Examples" browser in LabVIEW 6.1. Open the example "Acquire N Scans.vi." This VI has only 4 inputs. After setting your device and channel you will set number of scans to acquire to 7200 and your scan rate will be 6. Since you're only acquiring at 6Hz and wanting 7200 samples, this VI will take 20 minutes to run. At that point the graph will be updated with your data.

  • PC can't handle both IMAQ & OPENGL with BIG FAST images

    I can extract images using a ring buffer at 72hz (2k x 2k x 16bit).    However, when I try to BOTH extract (using IMAQ) AND display (using OPEN-GL)  I get  an IMAQ FIFO overflow.      I want to run (and display) at 60hz but eventually get FIFO overflow at that speed....especially if I move the mouse around at the same time.  (Your measurment studio has no problem collecting AND displaying at 72 hz though).      Is there a way to give the IMAQ priority over open-gl ????   I don't mind missing a couple frames being displayed, but I cannot have IMAQ halting over a FIFO overflow.
    Thanks for any hints.

    I'm using a c++ program.  By extract I mean   being able to successfully do a   imgSessionExamineBuffer().    I then use the extracted image with OPEN-GL  to display the 2kx2kx16bit image using NVIDIA cards.   All this is happening at 60hz.   At 30hz it works great.  At 60hz it works most of the time....if I move the mouse around a lot it dies quicker than if I just leave the PC alone.    I agree that your driver seems to be getting "STARVED".       Displaying only a portion of the image doesn't seem to have any affect.  Maybe Open-GL holds the interrupt longer than IMAQ can be without it?????    I'ld prefer to starve open-GL!!!!   If you have any ideas I'ld sure like to know.   However, I do realize that this probably is more a PC through-put problem than an IMAQ problem     Open-GL is just being used temporarily until our "display" boards are ready..

    Use an off-the-shelf voltage to current converter, here is an example of one (there are numerous manufacturers):

    You should also consider what bandwidth your require (this one is 1KHz).

  • Can doc properties be in sync with a page size change?

    I am using the manual.indt template with InDesign CS4, I made a page size change to the template and now the text boxes and everythng else are knocked out of alignment. I need the margins to be 'correct' in relation to the page size, just as they were with the original template. Is there a way to make a page size change and have all the elements within the template synchronize to the change?
    Thanx,

    Layout > Layout Adjustment...
    If you enable this BEFORE you make a change, much of what you want will likely happen, but it is highly dependent on how frames are set on the page. If they touch guides, they move/change size with changes that affect the guides.

  • Multi-clipping with different frame sizes

    I have two video clips that I would like to merge into a multiclip. Unfortunately, they have two different formats. One is an Apple ProRes 422 (1024x768), while the other one is a PAL 720x576.
    As far as I know, there's no way of making a multiclip out of the two, so I'm trying to compress the ProRes into a PAL 720x576, but the result is just awful. Considering the ProRes 422 is a screen capture, any suggestion on how to obtain a high quality multiclip out of the two original tracks?
    I'm using Compressor and Final Cut Pro 7.

    Let's do the math…
    Your ProRes contains a bit less than 800,000 pixels per frame while your PAL is only about 400,000; one of every two of your original pixels is being thrown away or smooshed into the PAL format so, yes, I imagine it looks pretty bad. You can, of course, scale up the PAL but then you are merely doubling the size of every pixel, you are ot adding any new detail or resolution.
    Decisions like this are  made by carefully assessing the output requirements, not the editing setup. How will you display the final piece? If you have HD playback resources and needs, you must scale the PAL up If you are going to standard def of DVD, then both of your sources are going to get smooshed into obscurity.
    If you have the ability to maintain the highest rez, you can bring your 768 footage into a 576 sequence and, without scaling it so the video is cropped, move it around in sync with your soundtrack so the important part of the screen capture is visible. Export at 576. You will also need a full screen version to handle cutaways.
    However, just my opinion, using multiclip for  two inputs is way overkill. Easier to just edit conventionally with two tracks and a razor blade.

  • Scale To Frame Size Issues with PE8

    I just got a new Sony HDR-XR500V camcorder.  When I render videos from PE8 (using source videos from this new camcorder) to either wmv or mpeg format, I run into one of two situations.  If I check "Scale to Frame Size", then I end up video that video that has a large border around it (on all four sides) - meaning it only takes up a portion of the media player screen.  If I uncheck "Scale to Frame Size" then I end up with video that is severely cropped on all four sizes - so I am missing much of the picture (but it at least takes up the entire medai player screen).  Is there some other setting where I can get it to fill the entire space but not crop the video?

    As Steve points out, one's Project Preset must match the source footage (Video & Audio) perfectly, or one will encounter problems.
    Once that is done, and editing is complete, then you can Export/Share to desired formats/CODEC's, with desired Frame Size.
    Good luck,

  • I need to input text from PC to iPad with large font size. Too much to ask?

    Works well with PC to PC using just software likge Windows Live Messenger, but not with iPad because I haven't seen a Messenger app for iPad that can display large fonts or has custom font size option. They all use small font size that can't be changed.
    I've also tried many VNC apps by writing the text in my PC to notepad and using the VNC to display the large text for iPad. Probelm is VNC's wont work well with 3G.
    Is this really too much to ask from iPad?
    If some app developer reads this, I'll buy an app for 50$ that has white background and can receive text sent from PC with custom font sizes. Doesn't have to have any other features. Just receive text from PC using the existing IM softwares like Windows Live etc or simple custom software.

    I was wondering if you could help me out with my current situation. It seems like it is similar to your previous I/O delima. • IMovie is outputting my movie with big black bars at top and bottom that I don't want

    Quicktime: Ver 10.3
    iMovie: Ver 10.0.5
    OS: OS X Ver 10.9.4
    So, let me try and explain...
    I have recorded gameplay footage of my game directly from my Mac screen using Quicktime's Record Screen option. I've tried recording both in fullscreen mode (with my game also running in fullscreen mode) and a section of the screen by dragging the mouse to select a 640X960 box (with my game running in windowed mode which is displayed at 640x960 resolution).
    This initial recording direct from the screen displays fine, both when I view it in windowed mode and when I view it fullscreen, with the height of the game stretching to the full height of the video area but obviously with big black borders to either side in fullscreen mode (as it's basically iPhone ratio in portrait mode).
    WindowedFullscreen
    This ^^^ is how they should look.
    The problem is when I try to import the movie into iMovie, mess around with some fade-ins and music and stuff and then output the edited movie via iMovie...
    When I then try to view this outputted movie in windowed mode on certain sites (Kickstarter) my game footage doesn't take up the full height of the video and instead floats in the middle with big black bars at the top and bottom, which I don't want. It's fine when I go fullscreen but the problem is that when I load this video into Kickstarter it shows the non-fullscreen view of the video with this big black border and it looks really amateur.
    This is what Kickstarter shows in windowed mode i.e. the way you see Kickstarter videos by default when you press Play; unless I go fullscreen and then it takes up the full heigh of the view.
    Note: Windowed mode actually looks fine when viewed directly on my Mac but I know it's not Kickstarter that is causing the issue because I can see in the thumbnail preview on my Mac that the video is somehow encoded with the big black bars at the top and bottom. Also, I uploaded the unedited videos to Kickstarter just to check and they display fine. So it's definitely iMovie that is adding these annoying black borders at the top and bottom for whatever reason (and I'm not intentionally scaling the video down in iMove or anything like that as far as I know). I also can't use the unedited footage however because it has no sound and no transitions etc.
    Does anyone know what night be causing this and how to get rid of it.

    You are lucky to see anything - iMovie 5 is not really compatible with Snow Leopard, which only supports iMovie 6 and above.
    Snow Leopard only runs on Intel Macs. iMovie 5 was never written, AFAIK, for Intel, just for the PPC Macs they had in those old days!

    Have a little patience. 4 minutes is only a short time for someone to find your post and reply to it. Also clicking on "This Solved My Problem" marks your problem as solved so many folks that may otherwise help will pass the question by since it is "solved."
    I suggest you start a new question that gives a good title to a specific problem. Then in the body of the thread describe the problem in detail, tell us what steps you have tried so far to correct the problem, what happened, and what error messages you received.

    All this sounds like you are confused about the general nature of MIDI Continuous Controllers (MIDI CC). The MIDI specification allows for 128 different CC's: CC0 to CC127. Some are typically "preallocated" to 'standard functions: CC1= Modulation, CC7=Volume, CC10+Pan, CC11= 'Expression'. Some act as switches such as 'Sustain' CC64.
    frodojon wrote:
    Everything appears to be scaled from -63 to +64 if that's what you mean by scaling?  What do you mean by MIDI CC7?
    Mainstage works with MIDI CC's generally in a number of ways:
    Some standard ones are automatically passed through to all MIDI/Instrument channels unless you specifically block them. Others are not passed through unless you specifically map them to something.
    This mapping can be done basically two ways (with MS 2.2):
    a) Make a Screen Control in Layout mode, and assign it to a particular incoming MIDI CC message. Then, you can map this Screeen Control to a variety of parameters such as the volume of a particular channel strip.
    b) With MS 2.2, you can do the above Assign and Mapping directly, without the need for Screen Controls as an 'intermediary'.
    frodojon wrote:

    Yes.
    It sounds to me like you have an issue where you have several hardware controls on your Keyboard set up to transmit the same MIDI CC. This is probably not a good idea, and it would be much better if you assigned them to transmit different CC messages (CC1 for Modulation and probably CC11 for the Expression (though you may want to set the pedal to some other number instead.
    Once you are transmitting different CC messages, you will be able to Assign and Map much more flexibly:
    for example, you could one to control the overall output volume at Concert Level in MS, whilst the other controls the volume of a specific channel within a Patch.
    Your issue of layered patches is one of "Scaling": one Screen Control (assigned to an incoming MIDI CC message) needs to alter the ranges of different channel strips to different amounts. You can set this up by using multiple mappings for one Control, each set to work over a particular range (for example a goes from -20 to 0 whilst b goes from -30 to -20 etc.).
