Can I password protect a 6th generation nano?

I just got a nano. I don't want to share it with the rest of my family. Can I set protection on it?

Hey jstamp26,
Thanks for the question. After reviewing your post, it sounds like you want to use Screen Lock on the iPod nano. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help you resolve or isolate the issue.
iPod: How to use the Screen Lock
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1350
Screen Lock, which allows you to set a 4-digit combination to prevent someone else from using your iPod while it is not attached to a computer.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
Have a nice day,
Mario

  • I updated iTunes and now my 6th generation nano can't be properly recognized now.

I recently updated my iTunes after holding off for a bit and now my 6th generation Nano wn't be recognized in iTunes but is recognized on the computer.
The message I get is this "An iPod has been detected, but it could not be identified properly. Please disconnect and reconnect the iPod, then try again."
I did this and still get the same message.
I found this article on the apple website http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3218 which specifically deals with this problem. I went through all the steps including uininstalling and installing iTunes and still nothing.
I called apple but they told me I need to buy some 20 dollar phone help plan in order to even talk to anyone since I bought it back in 2010. I won't be doing this.
    Can someone plase help me!!

Try resetting the Nano with it still connected to a high powered USB 2.0 port on your PC. To reset the iPod, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.

  • Hi i just got a 6th generation nano and im trying to transfer music from my old ipod which a 3rd generation ipod can someone help?plz thankz

hi i just got a 6th generation nano and im trying to transfer music from my old ipod which a 3rd generation ipod can someone help?plz thankz

There is no way to transfer ipod-to-ipod. Look for a 3rd party program, such as Yamipod, that will let you pull the music from your old iPod to your computer.
You really should be backing up your data on your computer.

    Hello houseman06
Check out the troubleshooting steps in the article below to get your iPad nano back up and running. Also check to make sure that the lock button is not on preventing it from being un responsive.

  • 6th generation nano screen black but able to touch screen from memory to get music to play..called customer support they said it's the backlight since touch screen can still be touched and music can be played..any thoughts?

second 6th generation nano..again with the same problem..screen is black will not turn on but am able to touch screen and get music/radio to play...able to touch around on screen from memory..nano is recognized in itunes and computer..but screen will not turn on..called customer support today..of course out of warranty but was told that it sounds like my backlight is burnt out and that's all i need fixed, told that it shouldn't be that expensive (live in myrtle beach SC) and that my screen is fine since i am able to touch around on it...any thoughts?
thanks to all for any advice or input..will try to take to local icitymac store in next couple of days

Replacing the backlight usually requires replacing the entire front LCD/digitizer.  And yes, it sounds the backlight has burned out.
Keep in mind that if you go the Apple route, they won't actually repair the iPod, but instead will do an out of warranty exchange meaning your current Nano will be replaced with a refurbished model of the same capacity and generation.

  • Stolen 6th generation nano

My new 6th generation nano was just stolen.  Is there anything I can do besides a police report?  Can someone link to my iTunes account with the nano?
Should I be concerned about security or personal info? Do I keep the nano registered under my name or deregister? Thanks for any help.

Reporting it to the police is about all you can do.  There is very little chance somebody will be able to access your iTunes/Apple ID, but you should change the password anyways for good measure.

    Hello kidmango,
I am going to have to agree with planb77. Look into other drivers in your computer causing the issue, not just the nano's drivers.
It is possible that security software is the culprit. Use this:
    iTunes: Troubleshooting security software issues
You may have to restore your computer to a previous point. From before the issue started. Contact computer manufacture or Windows for steps, or do a search with a search engine.
I would test the ipod on a known good computer to see if its the ipod is the issue. My gut says no. You can set a reservation at an Apple Retail Store. Apple.com/retail .You can also test a known good ipod on your computer.
    Hope this helps.

  • Battery on 6th Generation nano

I have the 6th generation nano and I can not seem to find any way to see if the battery is fully charged while connected to the computer.  I don't see it on iTunes so far to check the battery level I've had to unplug it check the battery then plug it back in.

I only see the green battery when my iPod Gen 6 is plugged in, and then, as described by others here, it either has a lightning bolt or a plug.  When I unplug it, the battery indicator turns pure white, no bolt and no plug at all.  I'm going to assume that, if the plug shows up in the green battery indicator while it's plugged in, the iPod is charged.  Of course, that makes me a little nervous, being that I've got to use it this Monday at a parade that draws several hundred spectactors...

  • Can you password protect pages folders

When you create a folder in pages, can you password protect the folder, or it only that documents can have a password?

Only the file can be password protected from within Pages. If you don't want the file to open on your Mac without the password, then do not check, “Remember this password in my keychain,” in the password dialog. Record your document password where you can retrieve it — in case your forget, or if using keychain, in case it becomes damaged.
You can password protect (and encrypt) a folder that contains Pages documents, whether they are password protected or not.
In Finder, press shift+command+U to launch the Utilities Window.
    Launch Disk Utility
File > New > Disk Image from Folder…
From the Select Folder to Image dialog, select the folder and click Image
From the New Image from Folder dialog
    Image Format
Compressed - folder will be read-only with no ability to add documents later
    Read/write - intuitive
    Encryption: 256-bit AES Encryption
    Save
In the new password dialog, set your password
You should strive for password complexity that shows strength as green
Record your password where you can retrieve it.
Again, the caveat about keychain as mentioned above
A new disk image will appear with the name you gave it, and a .dmg extension
    Double-click for the password challenge
The disk image will mount on your desktop just like an installer. Double-click to open.If you chose Image format as read/write, you can drag additional Pages documents into this open folder
Right-click on the mounted image and choose Eject to close it
You can edit Pages documents in-place in the mounted folder, but you will get a warning about space in the image container. If you want to increase the disk image size, open it in Disk Utility. It willl appear below the line in the left panel. Select the .dmg there, and from the Images menu, choose Resize…, and adjust accordingly.

  • Why my 1st generation nano earbuds not working with 6th generation nano?

    Hi there,
I had a 1st generation iPod Nano and Apple just replaced it with a 6th generation nano, however the earbuds jack of my 1st gen does not fit all the way into the 6th gen, it leaves a tiny bit outside and I couldn't push it all the way in, though I could hear sounds through the earbuds.  Is there anyone out there that experience this?  I thought the earbuds connector is universal.
Also, I'm not sure if this is related to the earbuds not fitting all the way in.  My new Nano shuts itself off about 1 minute or 2 after I turn it on, I am thinking it may think there is no earbuds connected to it, could this be why?
    Thanks for any help!
    Ray.

Push harder, the headphone jack on the 6 is very tight when new.

Hey guys, how can i password protect my files in external hard drive? I want to access those files both from mac and windows PC!

If you want a cross-platform solution that doesn't require the use of third-party software, use an external drive with hardware encryption. The device will have either a physical key or a numeric keypad. I don't have a specific recommendation.
