Can I password protect Sleep mode without protecting the screen saver too?
I don't want to enter a password for the screen saver (I'd have to do it 500 times a day). A password for waking from sleep mode only would be very helpful.
Thanks for any help
Fretking
There is just the one option that password protects both in the Security pane of the System Preferences.

Why did my calendar view suddenly change in iCal? I've been using ios7 fôr a few weeks now with no problems. Suddenly, without any updates or anything, the calendar view changed and I can no longer view it as a list without having the entire month seen as well.
Hey Gattypyle,
Thanks for the question. You simply need to go back to Day/Week view, then tap the list-view icon once more.

HT1430 In iPad terms does "control lock" refer to sleep mode - turning off the screen?
Just getting familiar with the iPad.
Sorry, wrong term! I should have said "Auto Lock" not Control Lock. Auto Lock is in "Settings" "General", about half way down the menu. I'm looking for a way to lengthen the time it takes to enter sleep mode. There are 5 options in Auto Lock. 2,5,10,15 minutes and Never.

How can I password protect the display of my bookmarks?
Want to prevent other users of my desktop from seeing my bookmarks
You can't do that in Firefox.<br />
Even if you would protect your Firefox profile with a password then it is still possible to copy or inspect files in the Firefox Profile Folder.

Can I password protect the internet?
My 11 year old son just got an ipod touch and I know I can block it from home but I want to turn it off completely. Is there a way to turning off the wifi capability will any router? Does anyone know if there is a third-party solution out there?
@ Concerned_Mother
No, there is no way to tell the touch to avoid a second screen or how many screens there are. All you have to do is "flick" it over to the next screen. There is also an on-screen indicator (small dots above the dock: no dots is one screen, two dots are two screens, etc) of how many screens are available.
The 1.1.3 firmware update is free. You need to download iTunes 7.6 prior to installing the update.
The upgrade (January Apps Upgrade) is $20 and requires iTunes 7.6 along with the free firmware 1.1.3 update installed prior to upgrading. -
Can you password protect pages folders
When you create a folder in pages, can you password protect the folder, or it only that documents can have a password?
Only the file can be password protected from within Pages. If you don't want the file to open on your Mac without the password, then do not check, “Remember this password in my keychain,” in the password dialog. Record your document password where you can retrieve it — in case your forget, or if using keychain, in case it becomes damaged.
You can password protect (and encrypt) a folder that contains Pages documents, whether they are password protected or not.
In Finder, press shift+command+U to launch the Utilities Window.
Launch Disk Utility
File > New > Disk Image from Folder…
From the Select Folder to Image dialog, select the folder and click Image
From the New Image from Folder dialog
Image Format
Compressed - folder will be read-only with no ability to add documents later
Read/write - intuitive
Encryption: 256-bit AES Encryption
Save
In the new password dialog, set your password
You should strive for password complexity that shows strength as green
Record your password where you can retrieve it.
Again, the caveat about keychain as mentioned above
A new disk image will appear with the name you gave it, and a .dmg extension
Double-click for the password challenge
The disk image will mount on your desktop just like an installer. Double-click to open.If you chose Image format as read/write, you can drag additional Pages documents into this open folder
Right-click on the mounted image and choose Eject to close it
You can edit Pages documents in-place in the mounted folder, but you will get a warning about space in the image container. If you want to increase the disk image size, open it in Disk Utility. It willl appear below the line in the left panel. Select the .dmg there, and from the Images menu, choose Resize…, and adjust accordingly. -
Can I password protect the Thunderbird program on my computer from being opened from the desktop so that others cannot view it without entering a password
Your best bet is to use your own Windows account. Check this article for more information.

Can I password protect my iMovie 9 or 11 event and/or project?
I have created an event in iMovie09 using the internal MACbook camera. I want to password protect the event so that no one can open/view the movie without the appropriate password - I need to provide 2 levels of security for the movie for privacy purposes. Can I save the file outside of iMovie, password protect it, and then import it into iMovie when I'm ready to view? I'm open to multi-step ways to make it happen!
you have diff. options:
• what I would do, simply purchase some small 2.5" usb-drive, drag Project&Events FROM WITHIN iMovie onto it and put ext.drive in a 'secure' place. whenever you have to work with these Events, plug it in, you're done.
• … if Events are small, and wallet big, you get 128GBs usb-flash mem-sticks .... tape the stick under a drawer (omg! I told the secret place!!)
• if you need that extra grain of security: after transfering the two folders, create a disk-image with the disk-utility, apply a secure password, drag both folders into it - you can NOT work from such a disk-image, you have to have it manually open and drag both folders out of it into original location.
btw: you lose the pw, all data is lost! no way to restore it … ok, some friends in Fort Meade could ……
• finally: why keeping this stuff at all? complete the Project, export the final movie, erase all traces. keep the movie where and how you like (see above suggestions).
being paranoid doesn't mean they're not after you!

Hey guys, how can i password protect my files in external hard drive? I want to access those files both from mac and windows PC!
If you want a cross-platform solution that doesn't require the use of third-party software, use an external drive with hardware encryption. The device will have either a physical key or a numeric keypad. I don't have a specific recommendation.

Can you password protect your email so when you want to access any of your mail accounts you must enter a password? In other words before I can see my mail I must enter a password.
On Oct 10, 2007, Matthew Morgan answered this question (discussion is now archived). I wanted to inquire further to his comment:

Cherster,
You could go to Settings>General>Passcode Lock and set a password to secure all your personal data.
Matthew - in which program are our suggesting going to Settings?

Can I password-protect a PDF file?
I'm trying to set up a site with a 'members-only' area that
contains PDF files. Is there some way to password-protect the files
themselves, or do I need to settle for a protected php page that
links to the files. While it's unlikely that a non-member would be
able to guess the filenames, it's possible that an ex-member who's
username and password have been removed would still be able to
access the files with a bookmark, as they're not protected.
I understand that short of a commercial product to convert
pdf to html, I'm stuck with the pdf format, but is there some way
to embed the pdf within a html page?
DW8 WinXP php mySQLYou can actually create files and store them with different
names, so as
they can't be downloaded conventionally ...
In most Windows, and I am assuming PHP setups - you can store
files above
the root and use a page to call them ...
You protect them too - I think on a blanket (all instances of
the file have
the same password) approach is easier ...
Or take a look at this

Can you password protect an pdf Portfolio? Not a single pdf, but a pdf Portfolio.
I know how to password protect individual PDF's. My quesiton is can one password protect an entire pdf Portfolio after assembling the Portfolio.
I'm using Acrobat Pro 11.0.6, if it helps. I was able to find it at File > Portfolio Properties > Security > Security Method.
This is what I was looking for, Dave. It prompts the user for the password when they try to open the portfolio. -
How do I create a folder for private documents which can be password protected?
how do I create a folder which can be password protected please?
You can do this by creating a protected disk image.
Instructions here http://www.macworld.com/article/154559/2010/10/password_protect_folders.html
Or you can buy and use software like this one: http://www.apimac.com/mac/secretfolder/
The disk image option is free and easy to do. -
