I cannot believe that apple is refusing to help a customer who bought and paid for iWork software just because I bought it from the retail store the App Store says they cannot allow me to upgrade. I have never heard of such. It should to matter where I got it i bought apples software and I don't et how the retail store can be different frothe App Store my god its all still apple. So stupid. iWork '08 & 09 installed from the retail disk or from the downloaded trial must be updated through Software Update. Those installations will not be recognized as installed by the Mac App Store. In Mountain Lion Software Update has been "rolled into" the Mac App Store. Choose Software Update from the Apple menu just like you always have & the Mac App Store will launch. Depending on what you have that needs updating you may see two sections in the MAS window.
But, as always, if you're not running the latest versions of the iWork apps installed from a retail box or the downloaded trial & Software Update says your software is up to date, make sure the applications are where the installer initially put them. The updaters are very picky. If the location is not where the updater is programmed to look or if the folder doesn't have the name the updater looks for, it will not work. The applications cannot be renamed or moved. If you installed from the downloaded trial or the retail box, they must be in the iWork '08 folder in Applications. That iWork folder must be named iWork '08. If it doesn't have the '08 Software Update won't find them & the updaters won't work.
If you are running Pages 3.0.3, then you do have the latest version of Pages from iWork '08. If you want to upgrade to iWork '09, you will need to purchase the new version, just like everyone else. The good news is that you can buy just the individual iWork apps - Keynote, Pages & Numbers - that you need or want for $20 US each from the Mac App Store & then install them on as many Macs as you need using the same Apple ID.

I terminated my iPhone ATT contract when I moved to out-of-service area (Vermont). All other functions on my iPhone still work and I have an "iTouch" now with a camera. Can I pay Apple the iTouch download fee for the new 2.0 software since I cannot activate my original iPhone again here in Vermont? Or should I just sell it and buy a new iTouch?

The iPod touch 2.0 download will not install on your iPhone as it is specifically designed for the iPod touch. In addition, any updates or restores on an iPhone require re-activation of the device.
If you really want the 2.0 software, your best bet is to get the iPod touch.

Mountain Lion has high requirements:
Lion also supports iCloud. Lion only needs Core2Duo and 2 GB RAM (though 4+ GB is better).
You can get Lion by calling 1-800-MY-APPLE and paying $19 for a download code to use in App Store.

Did you purchase it at an Apple Store? If so, then you should be able ot have them look up the receipt in their system. If you purchased it at another store, check their policies. IIRC, Best Buy allows you to exchange items without a reciept, but they won't refund without one. Other stores may have other policies.

Open the APP store and download Mavericks.
You didnt buy a "clearance" item, you just got an Air that was there at the shop before Mavericks was released.
There is no difference other than a 40 min. download.

How do I get the subsidized price for a new phone when I already have a plan?

I have been a Verizon customer since September. I have a dumb phone, and I'm really having trouble keeping up with my life. Now that the Droid 4 is coming out in February I've decided that it's time to upgrade. The Droid is coming out at $199 with a two year contract, I think. My question is, what do I have to do to get the subsidized price for the phone? In my current contract I can't upgrade until 2013. Should I cancel that contract all together and just pay the ETF? Then get a new contract with the new phone? Can I even do that? Also, would there be any way to keep my phone number in this situation?

Actually, if you are not ALREADY on a Family Plan, it WILL end up costing you more than this extra $10/month. For example, if you are on the 450 minute Individual Plan, you are paying $40/month and possibly $20/month for unlimited texting. The smallest Family Plan(700 minutes/month) would put you at $70/month and if you want the same unlimited texting, it would be an additional $30/month. This is $100/month vs $60/month on an Individual Plan which comes out to an additional $40/month x 19 months(24 months - 5 months you have already completed on your original line) = $760 ADDITIONAL you would pay until you could cancel your original line. If you wanted to keep your original #, though, you would instead pay an ADDITIONAL $960($40 x 24 months) until you could cancel your new line. Either way, it would MUCH cheaper to just pay full retail for the new phone.
Remember, this is ONLY if you are currently on an Individual Plan and change to a Family Plan with 2 phones. If you are currently on a Family Plan with others, and have the ability to add an additional line, your additional payments would not be this high.

Upgrading device without paying full price

I want to upgrade my device to a smartphone, but Verizon says I can't do this until August, unless I want to pay full price for the phone. Is there anyway around this?

Pretty much your only options, short of adding another line to get an upgrade/new phone, are to look for the phone you want on eBay or Craigslist, sometimes you can get them for close to, or slightly more than the 2 year price, and also avoid having to renew your contract. Depending on what phone you want, I've seen them go from 200.00 to 400.00 (only one thats really up there in cost is the Razr Maxx).
