I thinking about "upgrading" to iPhoto 6 - but wanted to sound out a couple of questions first:
Can you photocast without having a .Mac account?
Also - I read a thread that says you can't photocast a smart album - is that correct?

I didn't study it, but it may be a solution for photocasting without a .mac account.
I just did a search in this (iPhoto) forum, and I can see that others are discussing the lack of the option to photocast from smart folders.
I think I saw a post in this (iPhoto) forum about a workaround for photocasting with images from a smart album. I can't track it down now, and I didn't study that one either. I guess at the worst, you could copy your smart album to a regular album.
Personally, I'm more concerned about the install, and potential issues that will bring. It looks like you got through that without any trouble. Good job!

The page above does not fix the problem, it talks about the issue but does not solve it. And the pages that that page refers to talks about .htaccess file setup.
Many people are working on this issue and so far no solution.
IIS web servers may work fine, it's the unix servers using Apache that are not able to work with iweb. Line one of the code in all .html files is the problem. When I delete that line of code, the iweb pages work. This is not a good fix because everytime you update your website in iweb you would have to delete that first line of code again and again and again. The only fix is to figure out the proper .htaccess file encoding to get the server to read the files properly.
So far no one can do this.

I think not. You will need to order a disc from Apple quoting your serial number, as many of these discs are machine specific. So unless you can get your drive working I think you will have to take a trip to an Apple store.
Indeed, you have an old computer that may not be worth the cost of repair ... but it is still worth seeking Apple advice and a visual inspection. It just might be something not too drastic.

If what you previously bought is an iOS application, ensure that you’re signed into the iTunes Store with the Apple ID you used to buy it, or sync the device with an iTunes library which contains it.
If what you previously bought is a Mac OS X application, you can’t. The developer needs to create the two versions separately and may choose to charge for both.

Lion is usually installed through the App Store not through iTunes. There is no Lion CD. If you need to perform activities normally requiring an installer DVD, then you do it as follows:
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
This will boot the Recovery HD and present a main menu of options such as Reinstall Lion, Restore a Time Machine backup, and run Disk Utility to repair the hard drive. There are additional options in the Utilities menubar item.

If you remove the battery the CPU power will be cut by 50% (whatever they told you) so that there's no lack of power or overheating issues. It's best to always keep the battery in.

Welcome to the community.
Unfortunately, you cannot do that. The first hurdle that you are going to face, is that mobile devices, by virtue of being prone to loss, will always require that a password is entered before a purchase of any kind is made.
If your concern about the password, is related to your privacy in regard to your mail, contacts and calendar information rather than their acces to make purchases, then the best solution would be for you to use another Apple ID for iCloud.
Apple have called the whole cloud thing iCloud, there are a number of features under the iCloud umbrella, some of which require their own login. iTunes is one of these, another is what Apple have unfortunately also called iCloud too.
You can use the same Apple ID (account) to login to both iCloud and iTunes, but you don't need to and often users will login to each service using a different ID.
The part that you need to remember is that the services available when you log into iCloud are completely different and unrelated to those when you log in to iTunes. Your iCloud login enables mail, contacts, calendars, find my phone, Back to My Mac, Documents & Data sharing and photostream, it does not affect any of your iTunes services.

Hello, I have an AppleTV 3 connected to my television and a late 2012 Mac Mini that is not connected to a display/monitor/tv, but I use it as my iTunes server to stream media to the appletv . However, I was hoping I could mirror the Mac Mini to the AppleTV in order to see Safari and regular Hulu on the television, but when I try, the picture is scrambled and crashes the mac mini. I turn on airplay mirroring using the Rowmote application on my iphone since I cannot see what the mac mini is displaying.
Additionally, I tried connecting the mac mini to a 2nd hdmi port in the television, while the appletv is connected to the 1st hdmi port, but the image was also scrambled with mirroring turned on. My television also has a VGA port that can connect to the Mac Mini, but I figure the same problem will occur and have not bought the DVI to VGA cords.
Is there a way to mirror a mac mini to an appletv without the mac mini connected to a separate display and if so, what am I doing wrong?

AirPlay Mirroring requires a second-generation Apple TV or later, OS X 10.8 or better and is supported on the following Mac models: iMac (Mid 2011 or newer), Mac mini (Mid 2011 or newer), MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer), and MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer).
On the basis of the specifications you have given for your set up, mirroring should work.
