Can I play ipod in a car?

Is it possible to buy something which allows me to play my ipod in my car? The only snag is my car doesn't have a cassette player, it has a built in 6 disc CD player.
I've seen lots of gadgets to play through a tape player but does anyone know if theres anything that will play an ipod through the car without a casette tape player? Or am I just going to have to buy a new car now?!
The car is a Ford Focus if that makes the slightest bit of difference and the ipod is a new click wheel 20gb.
Thanks x

Various Methods to Connect to a Car Stereo System, or Listen to Your iPod in the Vehicle
Best:
Direct connection via the dock connector or headphone jack of your iPod, to the mini-jack input (or AUX RCA input jacks) of your car stereo. Not many low/moderate-end cars have this feature yet, but it is becoming more popular. Some aftermarket auto stereo units may have this feature.
There are also some after-market, moderate to fairly expensive direct interfaces, that hook into your existing car stereo to provide a high-quality, direct connection. Most will also power/charge the iPod. Pretty slick, but can be pricey ($80-$300). If money is no object, a clean way to go. Not very portable from car to car – if at all.

Better:
Connect your iPod to a cassette adaptor and play your tunes through your car's cassette player. Some new cars no longer come with a cassette player, so it may not be an option. It will provide even better audio quality if you can run the audio feed out of the dock connector (see the SendStation link below). Can be portable between cars that have a cassette player and also be used in your home cassette system.
Good:
Attach an FM transmitter to your iPod and play the tunes through an unused FM station. Convenient, but wireless FM transmitter signals are susceptible to static and outside interference, and can vary in strength and quality depending on your location. Some noticeable degradation and distortion, depending on the quality of the transmitter, the sensitivity of your ears and the airwave congestion in your area. Highly portable between cars, and may be used in a home system. FM transmitters that need to be plugged into a DC auto jack may not work in a home environment (without some sort of adaptor).
Marginal:
Attach an external speaker system to the iPod and play it in the car. Workable, but not too good - unless you spring for a $300+ Bose (or similar) system. But why? Only if your vehicle has no Stereo system, perhaps.
Brave Techno-Geek:
This site gives some direction on adapting your own car stereo by yourself: http://www.whatsmyip.org/ipodrx8/ . Risky, but it has been successfully done by a forum member.
Whichever you choose, power the iPod through your car’s DC power -- either from a power adapter, or as part of the combined audio adaptor. Have a method to secure the iPod to the dash/console/etc. See the reviews for all the various accessories at the iLounge
You will also get better audio output if the dock connection plug is used, rather than the headphone jack. See this URL for a novel adaptor: https://www.sendstation.com/us/products/pd_lousb.html. Others types are also available via this site.
I have read positive and negative reviews of each method, and within method there are great variations in performance of different manufacture's systems – and peoples’ opinions of their performance. Some cassette adaptors/FM transmitters work poorly, some better.
FWIW: I have the iTrip Mini & the Newer Technology RoadTrip!+ FM transmitters, a Belkin cassette adaptor (used both with & w/out the PocketDock) and two vehicles with the BlitzSafe direct interface. Using the same song in the same car, I found that the FM transmitters worked, but not as good as the cassette adapter via the headphone jack. Using the PocketDock on the cassette adapter resulted in a significant audio quality improvement. As expected, the Blitzsafe direct connect was exceptionally better than everything else: less tinny, a more warmer/richer sound, and close to true CD quality.

  • Playing ipod shuffle in car

My ipod shuffle plays through my car speakers but all music is random. It won't play the playlists in the order that they are in in itumes, which is really annoying. May as well listen to the radio if random songs just play!
Any ideas how to get playlists to play in the order they are listed in itunes?

    Hello Eliza,
You can set the iPod shuffle to play the songs in order or to shuffle the songs by adjusting the 3-way switch.  When the switch is in the middle, it will play the songs in order.  When the switch is all the way over to the left, it will shuffle the songs:

  • Playing IPOD in your car

Is there an accesory that will allow you to play your IPOD through your car stereo. I've seen the "tape" that you can plug into your car stereo and play your IPOD that way. (old school like the old CD players), but I don't have a tape deck in my car. Are they an other accesories out there?

    May I suggest the itrip?
Plug it into your ipod headphone jack, turn your car radio to 87.9 or something like that under FM.
Then, it should play, turn your ipod up to half volume, your car volume up a way, and it seems to work better closer or almost underneath the main unit.
It'll work for all ipods since it goes through the jack.
I like it, and also if you have the charger, too, charge while your playing it

  • Can't play ipod in itunes

I have the classic ipod and I update it and itunes regularly.  Everything has been working great, when just recently when I activate itunes, I don't see my ipod and I can't play any music.  I have tried to reinstall itunes, but that hasn't worked. I can however access my ipod music through a third-party program called “ipod Liberator”.  Please advise.  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.

I have the exact same problem!! Two hours ago I had 1,022 songs on my iPod. I installed itunes 7 and then the new ipod software, and it seemed like I still had all of my songs. Then, I went through all of the types of media- videos, music, etc., and told it to sync everything BUT my music; these were in fact the settings that were already in place. Then I asked it to update these changes. The next time I looked over, I had 12 songs. Now, my hard-drive library of Music is still there, so I can put those songs back on my ipod, but the songs I took from my dad's itunes library the last time I was home- like 500 of them- are gone. I put my ipod into disk mode, and there was nothing listed except for some folders of "contacts", etc., no music. What???!!!

  • Can't play ipod song in itunes

I can see, but not play, any of the CD-originated songs that are in my ipod from the itunes client.
I got a new laptop for Christmas (Toshiba with newest ITunes client 7.5)
I have a one year old ipod nano with songs in two categories:
    1. purchased off of itunes.
    2. ripped out of CDs.
I authorized the new computer to play itunes purchases, but I can't play the songs that are in my ipod that originated on a CD.

*I am unable to copy/move these songs into the music library of itunes (i.e. given a song is in the ipod (originally ripped off a CD source), I cannot get that song into the music library of itunes.*
The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide

  • How to play Ipod Nano in car

I have a VW that has a jack designed to play ipods. I purchased a cord that connects the ipod and the jack together, but nothing plays.

I am not sure what type of cable you purchased. My wife's car has a similar jack and she tried one of the 3.5mm mini to 3.5mm mini jacks with little success. Volume and sound quality was very poor.
She later picked up a 3.5mm to iPod connector and sound quality was much better.

  • Can I play iPhone app on car tv screen?

I want to play DisneyJr videos on our upcoming road trip from my iPhone on our car tv screen. Can I do this without jailbreaking my phone?
I know I need to buy a A/V cord and download Cydia (I think - correct me if I'm wrong).
    Thanks!

Hacking your iphone cannot be discussed here.
    Cydia is an iphone hack.
If you have the proper cables, then you should be able to watch movies on your car screen just as you could on your home screen without hacking the iphone.

  • Another one!! Can't play burned CD in car and other music system

    Hi,
There has been a problem with my computer recently and I used the forum to find the answer which did fix the problem (safari crashing all the time). Great and thanks to everyone for their help.
But I have now noticed that I am having problmes with burning CD's and I think have tried all what has been suggested. I purchased music from the itunes store and it plays without any problems.
The discs that I am using are DVD-RW. I have gone into itunes preferences and selected "when you insert a CD" - import cd and I think the import settings are correct.
When I clicked on the burn button, I selected audio CD which didn't work, so I tried selecting Data CD or DVD, that didn't work either.
p.s I have successfully burned before this, so I don't know why I can't do it now.
    Thanks for some more help.

The discs that I am using are DVD-RW.
You're really using DVD disks? You need to be using CDs if you want them to play in most car and other CD players, very few of which will play a data disk at all, much less a data DVD. Burning audio CDs, which is the format you generally will need for other players, usually works best with CD-R (not CD-RW).
I have gone into itunes preferences and selected "when you insert a CD" - import cd and I think the import settings are correct.
Just FYI, those settings have no effect on burning a disk from iTunes.

  • Can't play iPod songs in iTunes 7, just Hard Drive Songs

    Hi
I just downloaded the new iTunes 7 but I don't know how to play the songs from the iPod in the iTunes, I mean, the ones that I don't have in my Hard Drive, so far I just can play the songs on the library but not the ones in the iPod.
If I use the iPod alone I don't have problems, but I don't know how to play the iPod through iTunes in this brand new version.
    Thanks in advance.

  • TS3581 Playing ipod in the car

Device makes a connection in the car (song info displays on radio) through cord that came with car but music won't play through stereo. When it is plugged in, the devices recognizes a connection as well and will start playing music on the device. Other ipods will just fine through the stereo. The problem one is an iPod touch iOP 6.1.6. software is up to date and We have tried resetting it.

    Which devices/iOS devices do work?
Does the car manufactiures say it will work with your model iPod/iOS?
    Sometimes this works
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:

  • Can't Play iPod through iTunes without Synching

Here's what I would like to do: Listen to my iPod (Classic, 120GB) on my work PC through iTunes while my iPod is connected and charging. Is this still possible? I used to do it, but now I can't.
    iTunes 9.1.1.12/Windows XP Pro
I do NOT want to sync my iPod with my work computer. (I sync with my home computer.) I do NOT want to erase everything on my iPod and replace it with the 20 songs I have on my work computer. I DON'T want to copy my music from home to my work computer. I DON'T want to use the store or anything like that. I simply want to play the music stored on my iPod through my computer.
When I connect my iPod to my work computer and open iTunes, iTunes recognizes it and it appears in Devices on the left side of the screen, as it should.
On the Summary tab, I have Manually Manage Music and Videos SELECTED. These two options are selected and also grayed out: Sync Only Checked Songs and Videos and Enable Disk Use. I cannot get past this tabbed screen. What do I need to select or deselect to display and play the songs on my iPod - without erasing everything on it?

Try setting the iPod to sync manually.

  • Can't play ipod songs on more than one computer since update

I recently instaled the new itunes and ipod software on my pc. Now when I plug my ipod into any computer, the songs (and everything else) is gray and won't play. Any advice?

Your iPod has defaulted back to automatic update that's why you are seeing grey text. Change it to manual and you'll be able to access it: Managing content manually on iPod

  • Can't play music in my car after update?

Updated my iPhone today to latest version, and now my JVC in dash reciever won't recognize the device through it's usb port. Any suggestions?

    This should fix it.
    Shut the car off.
    Shut the phone off.
Plug in the usb cord to the phone.
    Start the car.
    The phone should turn on.
    Everything should work now.
