Can I play The Sims on a Mac?

Just wondering if I can play the original The Sims game son a Mac? I've entered the Disc... but I'm not sure how to operate it... install it.. etc. Thanks!

How can I play The Sims Complete Collection without PowerPC applications being supported?

So I downloaded Mavericks a while ago after my friend told me it was a really good idea. I hated almost everything about it to start with and since then I've found I don't hate everything but still a lot of things. I was on Snow Leopard before and, even though it was old, it was lovely; I knew where I was with it and everything worked.
Today I went to play The Sims Complete Collection for the first time since downloading Mavericks a few months ago and it told me 'You can't open the application "The Sims Complete because PowerPC applications are no longer supported." I am SO ANGRY. I would quite happily buy the game again but they don't make them anymore so they'd all have the same system requirements. What's most frustrating is that I sold all my original edition Sims games that I'd been collecting for years to buy Complete Collection for Mac so I could still play the game I've played since the week it was released. Basically I need someone to tell me how to do one of these things;
1- Downgrade to Snow Leopard again. Bit extreme but I like the Sims a lot. I have the original discs that came with my macbook if that helps at all.
2- Don't think it can be done but is there a way I could have my Sims Complete Collection on my EA origins app? Like all my Sims 3 are.
3- Make PowerPC Applications playable
4- Basically anything that makes my game playable!

The short answer is that you will not be able to run Sims on your Mac unless a OSX Lion update is released.
Have a look at this thread on the Sims forum about a patch for Lion.
The long answer is that you can try to install Fusion and Snow Leopard Server, but at a cost.
Fusion is not free. Snow Leopard Server is several hundred dollars.
It will be less expensive to buy an old Mac just for your games.

If you want to run demanding software, then you absolutely do not want to prevent your fans from running — unless frying your MacBook Pro is your goal. You’ll also want to make sure that when you run such software, that nothing blocks the airflow into and out of the MacBook Pro — so play such games with your MacBook Pro on a hard flat surface, rather than on a soft cushioned surface.

I recently bought the new MacBook Pro with the new retina display, but since it does not have a dvd/cd drive, I was going to buy an external one. I think I will be able to use it to watch dvds, but can I also play the computergame The Sims 3 on it? If not is there anything else I can do?

You can try formatting the external drive on your eMac using Disk Utility and choosing a well-known format > http://pondini.org/OSX/DU1.html. It's quite possible that your new iMac would be able to read it, but first, tell us which formats Disk Utility lists.
If you have those songs in iTunes, simply go to Music folder and copy the iTunes folder to the external drive. Then, connect it to the iMac and copy the iTunes folder to Music folder.
If they are not in iTunes, copy your songs to the external drive. Then, connect it to your new iMac, open iTunes and drag the songs into it

I successfully sync'd my Ipad to my Mac laptop. Now what was the point besides saving any music and apps that may potentially be deleted on the ipad? I thought since I purchased minecraft full version app on my son's ipad for him that I could sync it to my laptop so his sister could join him. It sync'd and I see the app, but it doesn't let me do anything with it. Was there a point to this? I thought they would be able to open the app and use/play it?

No, you can't. The purpose is to have a backup copy of them and provide another way of putting them on other iOS devices.

I do not recognize "Sims 3" -- I suspect "The Sims 3" is a game and you are asking because the game is one you must purchase. It would indeed be nice to know if you can play before you pay. No one likes to guess about these things.
In general, yours is not a gaming system -- it is a little notebook, not made for playing games.
If the game is a "little game", then -- maybe.
If the game is going to be a large monetary investment -- say, more than you can toss out the window if you end up not being able to run it because the computer is not able to handle it, then the answer is
"No, you cannot run the game."
True / False statements cannot have any "if" bits.
You might go to the game's Website and check out what other's say about this. Check not just what kind of processor, also how much RAM (memory) is enough (for example, 4GB on a computer is not very much to have, you need MORE), whether you can run on just wireless. See whether anyone else has tried to run Sims 3 on a smaller computer.

I am looking for suggestions on the ideal gaming macbook. I enjoy playing the sims 3 but it runs really slowly on my current Macbook. I bought it back in 2011 and ive kept up to date with software updates, etc. Just needing some help deciding which system will give me the biggest bang for my buck.

However, if it is a 13" model, there is an inescapable wall, since those carry just a single GPU and share the video memory with the rest of the apps. 15" and 17" models have a higher powered, separate and autoswitching GPU and up to 1GB of dedicated VRAM.

If you have added the ringtone file correctly to iTunes, it will appear under iTunes 'Tones' library.
If you don't find Tones library in iTunes, go to iTunes menu EDIT/PRFERENCES under GENERAL tab, check the Tones Box under Library source to display Tones library in iTunes.
iTunes accepts only m4r file as ringtone and has to be less than 40secs.

Apple do not have their "own" format. You need to convert your DVDs to H.264 though.

I want to use my DVD drive on my mac to play back movies through my apple tv2. I notice that on my iPad, iPhone, iTunes on my computer all have the AirPlay option to display the video on my TV through Apple TV. I do not want to burn my DVD onto my Mac and play through iTunes becasue its a hassle.

Logical but it won't work - DVD player output will be a grey checkerboard pattern.
Apple apps prevent Airplay of DVD content at low level presumably for some copy protection reason.

No judgment here on the music you listen to, I have that song too in my library. If iTunes is telling you that the song is missing and you purchased it from the iTunes Store, then just delete it from your iTunes library and then download your song again. What actually happens when you open it?
What app are you trying to play the files inside? Try iTunes.
I assume these files have DRM from the iTunes store. The Mac needs to be authorized to play them, open iTunes & select Authorize in the store menu, then sign in with the Apple ID that purchased the files.
Select the iTem in iTunes & get info on it (from the File menu) & you can see the account name that it belongs to.

If there's some kind of patch or something, please give me the url/link!Try Perian (free). It contains a collection of popular PC codecs which may or may not support the specific files you want. If not, you have to determine what particular codec is required, find out if it is available, and then download/install it. (Not all AVI audio/video file formats have been ported for Mac use.) Even then, if it is a proprietary codec and you want to be able to convert to/from that format, you may have to purchase/register the component.
