Can I plug any USB printer that supports AirPrint into the AirPort Express?
I'm interested in getting the new AirPort Express to print from my iPhone. Will any Airprint printer work with my iPhone and iPad?
Hi autefrum,
It sounds like we are confusing AirPrint printers with printers capable of being used with an AirPort Express for wireless printing.
AirPrint capable printers have wireless built in so you can print "directly" from your iPhone, no AirPort Express needed.
The AirPort Express has a USB port to which you connect a "regular" USB printer so you can print to that wirelessly. Effectively, it makes your standard USB printer an AirPrint printer by supplying the wireless connection. So if you have a USB printer already, the AirPort Express may allow you to print to that.
From the spec page, "USB 2.0 port for connecting a USB printer" and "Wireless printing over USB requires a compatible printer and OS X v10.2.7 or later, Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7.

I just bought an AirPort express. Currently I have a qwest wired router plugged into the back of my computer via an ethernet cable. Can I just unplug the ethernet cable and plug it into the AirPort express, then use the setup utility? Most of the discussions involve an existing wireless network. I don't have one.
Correct. That's the way to set up the AirPort Express. After connecting your AirPort Express to the router, open AirPort Utility (in /Applications/Utilities) and follow the steps

No matter what i do, my iphone will not recognize any sim card that is put into the phone, and i have tried 3 different networks
Most likely the phone is locked to a carrier that you haven't tried yet.

Has anyone ever plugged into the airport express to get online?
Want to plug my xbox 360 into the airport express to get online so I don't have to move anything around.
Right now my modem & router is in bedroom, & the airport express is in the living room (w/xbox and speakers) to extend wireless signal and throw music to speakers in living room.
I can move it, just lazy and then won't be able to use speakers, and don't want to buy xbox wireless adapter.....
It's already a bridge, it would make sense that I could plug in? maybe not ;}
airport express/ aluminum powerbook g4 Mac OS X (10.4.8)If you have the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) set up as a remote base station in a WDS configuration, then, yes, you can connect the Xbox 360 to the AX's Ethernet port for Internet connectivity. If it's setup as a wireless client, then no.

I have just purchased an iPad 2. I have wi-fi for roku and have connected the iPad to it. I want to print to my usb printer. My connection is: Cox Cable spit to telephone and broadband. The broad band feed goes to a Cox modem and feeds the wi-fi. The Cisco Linksys E2500, wi-fi's the Roku and iPad. Can I USB from the wi-fi to the printer, configure (however), and then print from my iPad?
If not, how?
All comments will be appreciated.
Alan G. Watkinsthe ipad cannot airprint to a non airprint printer.... i think that the only solution is to install helper software on a computer that has an attached printer and share it through the computer only...computer would have to be always left on

Can you print from an iPad through the airport express
can you print from an iPad 2 through the airport express
You can, if your printer is AirPrint compatible.
Check this Apple support document to see if your printer appears:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4356
If your printer is not compatible, you might still be able to print by adding an App like Print Central to the iPad.

HT4356 I'm looking for a Point of Sale receipt printer that supports Airprint
- anyone know of anything?
I haven't found any AirPrint-capable receipt printers. The Epson Mobilelink P60 series and the Star Micronics T300 will work over wi-fi, but not being AirPrint printers you'll have to find a third-party printing app that will work with them that would also work with your point-of-sale system. Epson has their own app, but I don't know about Star, though PrintCentral would probably work. The Epson now also says that it can print via Bluetooth:

It might be best to ask whoever developed the point-of-sale system you intend to use what they recommend.

I did set up my Airport Express to extend my existing network. It did ok but I can't see the name assigned to the Airport Express name in my available networks. Is that normal?
If the AirPort Express is extending your network it is using the same wireless network name as your "main" router.
Your main router and the Express act like one "big" network now.
Your computer will connect to either the main router or the Express automatically....depending on where it sees the best signal. -
While using the airport express can I listen to music streaming from the Internet?
While using the airport express can I listen to music streaming from the Internet?
The music must be in your iTunes library.
Or, you can try to add a special application like Airfoil that may allow you to stream any audio signal on your computer to the AirPort Express. It might work.

Can I use the Airport Express to create a secure wireless network in a wireless-only hotel?
Can I use the Airport Express to log onto an unsecured hotel wireless network, without an ethernet cable, to create a secure wireless network for my MacbookAir, IPad, IPhone, etc.? If so, how is that done?
will the Airport Express allow you to log onto a hotel wireless network, and broadcast a secure wireless network in your room for your wireless devices, like the Ipad, Iphone, etc.?
The bottom line with a single AirPort Express is no.
The AirPort Express can only "extend" a wireless network when the network is being provided by another Apple router.
As you might imagine, it is extremely unlikely that that the hotel network....which no doubt uses professional wireless access points provided by a manufacturer of commercial systems.....would be compatible with an AirPort Express.
In many years of travel domestically and internationally, I cannot recall a time when a single AirPort Express would "extend" the signal provided by a hotel's wireless network.
However, if you had two AirPort Express devices handy, you might be able to configure one to "join" the hotel network and provide an Ethernet signal to the second AirPort Express, which would be configured to "create" your own "private" wireless network. -
Can I use the Airport Express only with a LAN connection?
Because I want to connect my macbook (+ all other hardware) via WLAN with my Speedport Router. Which is connect via LAN cable with the Airport Express. Can I then deactivate the WLAN function in the Airport software?
When I try this, I can configure the setup. This works till a restart, after that I cannot find the Airport Express. Already I connect the macbook with the LAN-cable it works again.look that
so i have connected my components.
i only want to deactivate the WLAN in the Airport Configuration. if i connected in this way it works without problems. after restart i cannot find the airport express. -
I wanna get a new airport express or time capsule, I'm leanin towards the time capsule but in wanna know If I plug my USB printer into it if it becomes an AirPlay printer so I can print from my iPad
Nope. It's got to be a real AirPrint printer.
However, you may be able to use an app and print the way you described. Check out printopia. -
My HP 2355 won't show up in AirPrint? I have it plugged in via USB and set it up on my Mac mini with the airport express network. Any advice?
Unless your HP printer is an AirPrint-ready device, just connecting it to the USB port of the AirPort Express base station will not make it so.
On the other hand, connecting a non-AirPrint printer to the base station's USB port it can be shared out by the base station's print server. Please see the following Apple Support article for details. -
Can i use any wireless printer when using air express
can i use any wireless printer when using air express
If you are looking for a new printer, any wireless model will work with the AirPort Express.
But, since you indicate that you have an iPad, you would want to make sure that the printer you choose is AirPrint compatible. This way, you will be able to print from your iPad....if you need that function.
See this Apple support document for info on AirPrint and compatible models.
