Can I power cycle a 2G touch if the button does not work?

The power button on my touch has been flaky since by toddler put it in her mouth and got slobber all over it. It has stopped working completely and I would like to know if there is a way to power cycle it when that button does not work.
Other than the power button the device is working fine.

I know of know other way.  However, this fix for the Home button may be applicable.

Try these as a starting point:

Follow directions for a battery you can remove, or a battery you should not remove yourself (which ever applies to you)
    Try a NVRAM/PRAM reset:

  • IPhone 3g - I have to power down to change screens.  The button is not working.  What do I do?

The button on my IPhone 3G is not working to change screens.  I have to power down every time I want to change screens say from phone to the facebook app.  I've tried cleaning out the connection with an air blower.  It did seem to help at first but now, nothing helps.  Thanks for any and all help you can give me to try to solve this issue.

    Try resetting the SMC.
MacBook and MacBook Pro with a battery you can remove
    Shut down the computer.
Disconnect the MagSafe power adapter from the computer, if it's connected.
    Remove the battery.
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
    Release the power button.
Reconnect the battery and MagSafe power adapter.
Press the power button to turn on the computer
To reset the SMC on newer Mac portables with a battery you cannot remove
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.

  • How can I run two different versions of Firefox, the latest does not work with an important site I need to use?

With the latest version of Firefox I cannot send "Quick Mails" to my students using the college's ANGEL system. I had to uninstall it and go to an earlier version. I prefer the newest rev.
Any way to run two different versions. It does not have to be simultaniously. Seems to be a problem on both my Mac and XP systems.
    Thanks,
    Kim

Currently I don't think there is a way to run two version of firefox at the same time. But you can install Firefox Beta or Aurora instead (which is build for future release for firefox) and help test it! Here's the link:

  • My ipod touch start/reset button does not work and the ipod is stuck on the apple restarting logo. what can i do?

  • My touch in the iPad does not work

I was working with my iPad suddenly it doesn't work, when i pressed in the iPad it didn't do anything can anybody help me please :c I'm scared!

Reboot:  Press and hold BOTH the power and home buttons at the SAME time for about 10 seconds (ignore the red slider to shut down) until the Apple Logo appears, then let go of both buttons and your iPad will restart.  You won't lose any data or settings.  See if things operate normally after it comes back up.

  • Bought a new Ipod touch and the WiFi does not connect.  Tried Reset and total Restore, does not connect to Router on DHCP, tried Static manually and still can not get it to connect even though it registers as connected.

Bought a new Ipod touch and the WiFi does not connect.  Tried Reset and total Restore, does not connect to Router on DHCP, tried Static IP, Subnet, Router and DNS manually and still can not get it to connect even though it registers as connected.  Using Airport for router, latest firmware, no problems with Iphone 4 or Macbook Pro or any other internet devices.  After total Restore (factory settings) tried again, showed connected to router, but does not display "check" next to router but little rotating icon even though the wifi range signal shows connected at full strength and it says it is connected.  Just can't seem to get it to generate an IP.  Any solutions other than turning it on and off again?  Not a Merry Christmas morning.

Ok, so, a couple of things:  Denisefromwaleska and I have the exact same size/type/color iPod.  Now wishing I'd bought the black one maybe...
Second, Airport is an Express and I have a second one that I carry with me when I travel.  Tried to connect my Airport Express to the internet and could not although the iPod did recognize the router and tried to connect to the internet for some time, unlike my previous problem.  Updated firmware on my travel router, still could not connect to the internet.  Going to try to set up a manual Static IP on the travel router here in a few and conect through it although I predict the problem will persist. Back on the Christmas Present Airport Express router, it is back in play and working fine for all devices save the iPod.
Thanks again for all your help, hopefully I can get a solution in place soon,

I am having trouble with my iPad, i can start it, but the iPad does not work. i tried to use the power and home button at the same time, the apple logo appears, but the iPad does not work. What am I suppose to do?

After the Apple logo appears, what happens then? Can you hear any sounds or if you tap on the screen, does it seem like apps can open or are you just seeing a black screen? You might have a hardware problem, but you can try restoring the software and see what happens.
Read this in its entirety before you do anything. Make sure you read the sections at the end about using recovery mode.

  • Froze on black screen and power button does not work

my sons ipod touch is stuck on a black screen when plugged into the computer got a spinning wheel and will not connect now spinning wheel will not go away the power button does not work so can not reset it manually
    any suggestions would be appreciated

    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
Neglect the reset and when it says place the iPod in recovery mode use one of thes programs
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Can i get a new iphone as my current one does not work

i have an iphone 4s and my volume does not work. in addition to this my round button does not work either. the power button is broken too. as i am on contract would i have to pay for another iphone?

    Dear,
You can use the option Assistive Touch (Settings > General > Accessibility >AssistiveTouch On) for use the buttons that be broke. You can turn up and down the volume and use the Power off button.
If it doesn't work, I would go to carrier shop and if they can't fix it, Surely I'd buy one.

My phone has started to freeze, when I pull the menu bar down, when I am in apps, just any time. when it freezes, the buttons do not work. The battery dies within an hour of being off the charger. I do not know what to do, or why it has started to do this. please help.

    Hello taylordoveriphone4,
After reviewing your post, I have located an article that can help in this situation. It contains a number of troubleshooting steps and helpful advice concerning performance issues:
iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3281
    Resolution
If a single application is not responding or stops responding when it opens, you can force it to close.
If the device is unresponsive or if certain controls aren't working as expected, restart your device.
If the device remains unresponsive or does not turn on (or power on), reset your device.
If there is no video or if the screen remains black, verify that the device has enough charge to turn on:
If you are using an iPad, ensure that it's connected to the USB Power Adapter supplied with the device.
Let it charge for at least twenty minutes, then see if it starts normally.
If there is no image on the screen, press the Sleep/Wake button to attempt to wake the device.
If the screen displays a red battery icon, continue charging the device until the battery is fully charged. Learn more about charging iPhone and iPod touch, or iPad.
If the above steps do not resolve the issue, or the if the screen remains black or shows a persistent Apple logo, try restoring with iTunes:
Connect the device to your computer and open iTunes.
If the device appears in iTunes, select and click Restore on the Summary pane. Learn more about restoring iOS software.
If the device doesn't appear in iTunes, try to force the device into recovery mode, and then restore it.
If the above steps do not resolve the issue, contact Apple.
Thank you for contributing to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
