Can I publish an iBooks Author book under a client's account?

The next stage in all of this is doing books for clients that they will sell. Has anybody had any experience with that? How do you get iTunes Connect to point to a different account?

  • How can I transfer an iBook Author book via a PC?

    Hello
I designed an iBook via iBooks Author for a friend and want to send it to her to preview.  She has an iPad but only a PC computer.
How can I send her a proof so she can view it on her iPad?
    Thanks for your help.

Both open a Dropbox free account - upload your book to Dropbox and create a download link - email the link to  your friend - she can download  to the Dropbox on her iPad and when clicked to open -  it offeres an "Open in iBooks" - and  from iBooks it can  be seen.   If this is a beta version, I would  tell your friend to delete it before downloading the next version.  Its not needed and  can cause  problems with which  version  is seen.
    No solution for PC.

  • What, if any, animation files can be added to iBooks Author books?

My books will include 2D animations, and I need to see what files they need to be to be included (imbedded?) in the iBook.  Any ideas? Or do I need to submit animations to another place, and in another format?

Since you seem to be asking about standalone media files to be embedded directly in iBA "Media" widgets, my advice would be to keep it simple. Audio only files containing AAC stereo in the 128 Kbps @ 44.1 KHz to 160 Kbps @ 48.0 KHz range audio in an M4A container would be a good choice combining reasonable fidelity in a moderate file size. This same audio can also be embedded as a "Podcast" M4A file which will automatically use the image as your default "Poster Frame" for the "Media" widget. As for videos, use an M4V file format containing an H.264 video track with AAC audio as previously described. While many video options are available, you may wish to stick with something like a L3.0/3.1 Main Profile in the 1.0 to 2.5 Kbps range since they are both easy to make and play on almost all mobile devices. Do not include extraneous track data in most cases. For instance, while the iPad can accept/AirPlay a secondary DD5.1 AC3 audio track, the iBA app seems to be programmed to prevent import of such content.

  • When I publish from ibooks author will the pages flip like my other books

When I publish from ibooks author will the pages flip like my other books the preview only slides side to side

Pages continue to slide rather than flip for the horizontal orientation.  In the vertical orientation, the text scrolls up-and-down like a web page (again as shown in iBooks Author if you change the previewed orientation).  I'm not sure why Apple went with the different GUI for their textbooks, but its the same for the ones authored by the big publishers.  If you want to see what the format is like on the iPad, there's a short free textbook (Wilson's Life on Earth) and sample chapters from others available from the iBookstore.
On a side note, one interesting thing about using texts in the two different orientations is that the formating changes as well.  Figures that show up as larger embedded images in the horizontal layout are smaller images in the left margin in the vertical layout, at least in Wilson's book.

  • Looking for books published using iBooks Author

I'm looking for books published with iBooks Author and there's no way to search for this in the store as far as I know. If you've published a book using IBA, please post the link in the comments. Thank you

I´m thinking about what size of the text I should use.
Right now I have size 16 Palatino and small blocks of text so it should be easy to read
My experience is this: 16 point text looks (and is experienced as) standard print text in books.
Here's a trick for iPad vermisilitude I use on my iMac with 1920 x1080 resolution: In iBooks Author I set the screen to "Fit Page" and then resize the screen manually to 92%. This very closely matches an iPad screen. In my case, it helps with selecting fonts.
    All the best.

P.S. This would be better in a new forum.

  • Can i Publish an ibook in different languages? I mean three different books

Can i Publish an ibook in different languages? I mean three different books

I believe so - release them as editions or a series (see iTunes Producer meta data). ABC Title, Edition 1 English; ABC Title, Edition 2 Spanish;  ABC Title, Edition 3 German...that sort of thing, but with the titles translated, of course
See the store for existing examples.

  • Are any iBooks Author books coming out?

We all hear about the seemingly difficult process of getting an iBooks Author book through Apple's gates. It would be nice to see what is emerging as finally published books. We've seen a few mentioned here but where are the new titles coming out this week? Are free books arriving faster than paid books? I've scanned the new releases listed in iTunes and the iBooks Store but see little that resembles an iBooks Author publication, certainly few showcasing screenshots and enhanced features.
I've been waiting for Maria Langer's new 'enhanced' book on iBooks Author but saw this disheartening paragraph on here blog:
April 7, 2012 Update: One of the two tickets on my book has disappeared, but the other remains. Despite several attempts to contact Apple, it’s still unclear whether they realize that I have resolved this ticket. I keep getting canned responses that do not indicate whether they are following up on my problem. It seems to me as if they’re just sending out a response without even looking up the situation. I’m frustrated beyond belief at this point and angry about potential lost sales. And there’s no one at Apple who I can contact to get a definitive answer. Clearly, the iBooks Author publishing experience is broken and Apple is uninterested in fixing it.
I'm hoping for some good news from this Forum.

Is it possible that there are a good many really crappy books being submitted via IBA and they are wading thru them?
It wouldn't surprise me at all to learn that a large proporption of books is of poor quality, with spelling, grammar, editing, typography, and layout problems. Having worked as both an editor and author on and off for many years, I know first-hand that, what some people consider quality writing in fact isn't…
A big danger with any publishing program or word processor is that, even though the program is capable of producing professional output, the professional output doesn't come from the tool, but the author. I still need to know about typography, about design (partially taken care of by IBA with its templates), about style and grammar, about presenting material with proper logical flow, etc…
Just because I have tool doesn't mean that I can produce publishable material. That's where the whole process is flawed, in my opinion. Publishers normally provide services to authors that ensure some level of quality, such as copy editing, proof reading, layout design, and so on. With the iBookstore process, none of these services are provided by Apple, who merely acts in a distributor role. Many authors are not capable of doing all the things that publishers traditionally do, so a big chunk of what makes a book a good book has gone missing. Traditional publishers actually do add value for their share of the revenue.

These "long" waits people are complaining of should be encouraging that you are submitting your books to an entity that is exercising quality control rather than just publishing them all, like a blog... I wonder what the rejection rate is for IBA? I can't imagine Apple would fill their bookstore with poorly edited books.
We can only speculate what the reasons for the long wait are. Could be under-resourcing by Apple, could be that they are swamped, could be a combination of both.
It is striking though that submissions to the Appstore seem to go through so much quicker even though, arguably, applications are harder to test than books. As other people here have reported, they get a book as an app improved within a week, whereas no such thing seems currently possible with an eBook. Either apps are not reviewed as thoroughly as books, or the app review process is much better resourced.

No way to know what the rejection rate is, unless Apple decide to publish that (which I doubt the will). Having a bookstore full of junk or poorly written material is certainly not in Apple's interest. On the other hand, neither is having an appstore full of buggy and poorly written applications.
I think an initial wait time of four weeks would be tolerable for new submissions, if only the process were streamlined more. For example, telling people that something is wrong with their book without providing the detail needed for them to fix the problem is truly useless: it wastes the author's time as much as Apple's. And, once minor fixes are made, having the book go back to the end of the queue is simply bad process.

  • Errors and Omissions Insurance for iBooks Author books?

Book publishers often cover the author under their E&O policies.  What have you done with regard to your (nonfiction) iBooks published with iBooks Author?
    Thank you.

Thank you, El Guero.  I actually am an attorney - and I know that the disclaimers don't do much of anything.  Any E&O insurance carrier recommendations?
Btw, in addition to your list of possible causes of action, I'd add both copyright and trademark infringement, particularly in books that include audio and video (with or without voiceover and/or music).  The issues are not always noticeable to the untrained eye, and sometimes there is coincidental simultaneous development of ideas.  That's why most telelvision and movie studios don't accept (i.e., return without opening) unsolicited scripts or ideas from the general public - too much risk of a claim down the road for a similar concept developed independently by the studio.  I'm still going to want E&O insurance though.  Thanks!

  • Can i remove my iBooks Author's account?

Can I remove my iBooks Author's account?

No, never ( under current agreements)
What you can do is open your iTunes Connect account and  go to  price and territory  and de-select all countries. That removes your books from the store.

  • Indenting of a previously written article by me into an ibooks author book?

Is it necessary to indent a previously written short article by me when I put it into my ibooks author book? How would I do it since I already have it in a page with other text before and after it? Can all the paragraphs (5) be indented at one time?

    - yes, I pride myself on being able to jar people.
It's a gift, actually, and one I treasure....right alongside being able to curl my tongue without being intoxicated...mostly....
Forums at their best I think. Thanks for the follow up & good luck w/your book(s).

  • Save ibooks author book in iCloud?

Can I save an iBooks Author file (work in progress) to Apple Cloud drive (in the same way or similar that a Numbers file can be saved there), so that I could access the book/file from my desktop iMac or from my Macbook Air over an internet connection?
    Using iBooks Author v. 2.2,  OS X 10.10.2.

You can save iba files in iCloud Drive and download them up from iCloud.com or open them up in finder from another mac connected to iCloud or directly in IBA, again, if you are connected to IBA and the Internet.

  • Finding iBooks Author books in the store?

I'm more than a little surprised that Apple hasn't made it easier to "search by iBooks Author books" in the store.
Does anyone have any sources that are showcasing iBooks Author books?
    Thanks!
    Jake

Genius Apple move. Reminds me of the way they rolled out podcasting so many years back: "Here's some tools and access to the store. The rest is up to you, including how our standards actually work. Good luck."
    Ugh.
Thanks for the answer, KT. I suspected this was the answer. Is there any blog/forum/web page perhaps that collects up such a list?

  • Where can I find free iBooks Author templates?

Where can I find free iBooks Author templates? I'm trying to create a storybook for kids, is there a listing of such?
    Thanks!

When I used the link  and clicked on Free there was nothing showing except  the loading  spinner ....which never ended. Reloaded and  tried the Photography link which was OK...
Just tried today and the site is fully functional dont know if it was my machine or what!
I did not try anything free, I get wary of new sites being  advertised in targetted forums and such and wanting email address's.
I make my own template, $20 for one template seems expensive to me there are apps in the store offering templates far less expensive,  as do Jumsoft and I have no connection with them other buying  their set when iBA first came out.
"Templates for iBooks Author" is a free app offerring 10 templates free! their  next version offers 20 I think for $10
I think my  next project  should be a website offering templates a $3 each ! So far I have created 150....
Edit:   Anybosy   wanting to learn more about creating or modifying template should  really check out KT's  tips and information on this link given above and repeated here...
