Can I put a 2nd hard drive in my Satellite P875-S7200 laptop??

There appears to be a space underneath for another one so I have to ask. Can I put another hard drive in this laptop or not? I'm not going to buy another hard drive for this thing if I can't.
Please see the attached photo.
Thank you.

There are a couple of ways to run DISKPART.  The most common method is probably from within the CMD console:
Start Menu, enter cmd in the search field, and then click on the CMD icon in the search result section.
Once the CMD console window launches, enter  diskpart
Or you can access DISKPART directly from the "run" dialog:
<win>r    (then in the "run" dialog field,) enter   diskpart
Here's a screencap of the DISKPART Clean command.  I inserted one of my Flash sticks (disk 3) and ran the Clean command on it.
The system info is in green color.  My input commands are in blue.

DiskPart succeeded in cleaning the disk.

That's it.  I always repeat the "list disk" command after selecting the desired disk to eliminate user error (accidentally wiping the wrong HDD).  The * symbol tells the user which disk is in focus, or which disk the system has selected for the user commands to be performed on the disk.
The Clean command usually takes only a few seconds to complete.
After running the Clean command, the HDD or Flash Stick will then appear as "unallocated" in the Disk Management Console window.  I always do this before Cloning with my Acronis boot disc since Acronis will automatically select the unallocated HDD as the "Target" HDD.  It also eliminates any question when selecting the Source HDD since the Target HDD will appear in Acronis (and any other Cloning/Imaging prep dialog screens) as containing no data.
Another way to be safe in DISKPART and assure that the desired disk is the one that you want to clean, is to launch Disk Management in Windows  at the same time that DISKPART is launched, using <win>r  diskmgmt.msc
The PC's disks will be numbered the same as in DISKPART.  For example, "disk 0" is my OS and "C" HDD, etc.
Wish I could help with your Driver issues.  That's an area of PC's where I'm a rookie

  • Can I put a 3TB hard drive?

I have an AirPort Extreme in place a USB 1TB hard drive and my question is. Can I put a 3TB hard drive?

3TB is no problem.. you will need to format it on the Mac HFS+ ie Mac OS extended journaled. Don't try using FAT32 etc for such a large drive.

  • About how many CDs can I put on my hard drive before it effects the performance of me iMac/

About how many CDs can I put on my hard drive before they effect the performance of my imac?

Well, it depends on how much content is on the CD. You should have, at a minimum 10 - 15 GB of empty hard drive space at all times - more is much better. I do a fair amount of video/graphics editing and in order to render and burn properly, I need at least as much empty hard drive space as I have files in my current project, which usually means at least 150 GB or more. So, to be safe, my goal is to have a minimum of 250 GB empty space at all times - the OS will thank you if it has more room to work with.
So, add up what you want to put there and keep watching your hard drive space diiminish - it's best to have space hogging files on an external hard drive to keep your internal working well.

You could put your install disc on a USB Flash drive with Disk Utility. Also, here is the USB optical drive enclosure I bought. He raised the price a few bucks. Mine ran $10.00 with the shipping.

  • Can I put a 1tb hard drive in my MacBook 4,1?

Hello everyone. I was wondering if I can put a 1tb hard drive in my MacBook 4,1. I'm not sure if I have the early 2008 or late 2008 model. Anyway I found a hard drive that meets the physical requirements of my computer but my question is will it work? I am currently runing snow leopard. Thanks.

The following is quoted from Section 700.10.c of the Magnussen-Moss Warranty Act:
    (c) No warrantor may condition the continued validity of a warranty on the use of only authorized repair service and/or authorized replacement parts for non-warranty service and maintenance. For example, provisions such as, “This warranty is void if service is performed by anyone other than an authorized ‘ABC’ dealer and all replacement parts must be genuine ‘ABC’ parts,” and the like, are prohibited where the service or parts are not covered by the warranty. These provisions violate the Act in two ways. First, they violate the section 102 (c) ban against tying arrangements. Second, such provisions are deceptive under section 110 of the Act, because a warrantor cannot, as a matter of law, avoid liability under a written warranty where a defect is unrelated to the use by a consumer of “unauthorized” articles or service. This does not preclude a warrantor from expressly excluding liability for defects or damage caused by such “unauthorized” articles or service; nor does it preclude the warrantor from denying liability where the warrantor can demonstrate that the defect or damage was so caused.

  • In replacing a hard drive on a Mac book circa 2006, can you put too much hard drive space in and cause overheating? I've had 2 hard drives fail after installation in the past 3 weeks.

I recently had my Mac book circa 2006 updated to OS Lion and in the process was told I needed a new hard drive. I just replaced my original hard drive 9 months ago and was told at that time not to put too large a hard drive on my laptop or it could overheat. Now I have gone through 2 hard drives in the past 3 weeks since updating to Lion both of which were a terabyte in size. The authorized repair shop that put both failed hard drives in insists that the size of the hard drive does not cause problems in the Mac book but I am wondering why 2 failed in such a short time when the smaller hard drive lasted. It was working when I took it in for the updates but their diagnotic test showed that the first replacement HD was failing. I'm not sure what to think now.

Can I take that cloned hard drive and just plug it into my new Mac Mini and Viola I have two computers set up perfectly
    Yes.

  • Can I Encrypt My 2nd Hard Drive Without Screwing Up Data Access?

I have 2 hard drives in my machine, one is a SSD boot drive and the other is a traditional mechanical hard drive.  I have the boot drive encrypted using FileVault but would also like to encrypt my mechanical drive as well.  When you right click on a drive in Mountain Lion there is the option to encrypt the drive.  I want to know if I do this will it screw up access to the data I have stored in there or can I still access everything normally if I unlock it after booting up?
On a side note:  I also use Bootcamp and was wondering if encrypting the mechanical drive would make it impossible to access this drive while in Windows 7 or can I unlock it in Windows 7 as well?  I am curious about this because I use iTunes to access my media from this hard drive.  It isn't a deal breaker and I'd rather have my data encrypted.

I want to know if I do this will it screw up access to the data I have stored in there or can I still access everything normally if I unlock it after booting up?
Encrypted HFS is transparent to the user. Once mounted, the volume will work in the same way as before. Of course, if something goes wrong and you don't have backups, you'll lose all your data.
I also use Bootcamp and was wondering if encrypting the mechanical drive would make it impossible to access this drive while in Windows 7
    Yes.

  • Can i put a bigger hard drive in my intel imac?

Is it possible to replace the internal hard drive in my 17" imac Intel core duo for a larger capacity drive?
I did this on the first gen G5 imac ok but i'm not sure about the intel model, i was thinking of a 250gb or something.
What type of drive would it be, 3.5" SATA?

  • Where can I put in more hard drive space on my laptop around Waterloo, Ont?

Hello, I was wondering, where can I get more hard drive space on my laptop, so then I can install Boot camp and still have enough space left for my other stuff. I don't want to loose too much space, I already lost about 9.7 GB to installing Leopard.
Does anyone live in Waterloo, Ontario?

I'm currently a student at the University of Waterloo (2B term starts in September). Here are some options for you:
    1) Canada Computers at King/University.
    2) CampusTech at UW
    3) IST help desk at UW (for UW students only, I think)
Canada Computers is right at the corner of King/Uni. It's on the northwest corner of the intersection, slightly north of University. Look for a blue sign with yellow type within a 30 second walk north of the intersection. They sell all kinds of computer hardware, although they may or may not be able to do the actual transplant for you.
CampusTech is at the Student Life Centre, on the bottom floor (basement). Ask anyone at UW and they'll tell you how to find it. They're "Official Mac Certified", but I don't believe they sell hard drives. I bought my MacBook there and they did a RAM upgrade for me and so far it works well.
The CHIP (Computer Help Information Place) is on the 1st floor (basement) of the Math building at UW. You may have to be a Math student to use them, and if you're not under warranty they may charge you, but I had a problem with my keyboard shortly after buying my MacBook and went there and they fixed it for me. They have really short hours, though, so if you have a day job, this is probably not the best option.

  • Help. Can I go to a 1TB 2nd hard drive in my HP Pavilion dv8000 (also listed as a dv8333cl ?)

    hello-
I have an HP dv8000 notebook computer running windows xp-sp2.  I upgraded my 2nd hard drive (not the windows xp/boot drive - just document/family photo & video storage)  to a Hitachi 320 GB drive 4 years ago.  it works great but I"m almost out of space.
    item/specs -  320GB 5400 RPM 8MB Cache 2.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822145227
I would like to change it out for a newer Hitachi 1TB drive - as I am now approaching a full drive for photos, videos, docs.
    such as this one -  1TB 5400 RPM 8MB Cache 2.5" SATA 6.0Gb/s
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822145584
It is listed as having a speed of 6.0 gb/s instead of 3.0 gb/s and It says it's 'Advanced Format'.    Any reason my windows xp-sp2 laptop won't be able to use this drive?
In searching around the web it seems that my version of windows xp with sp2 as well as my bios may be the controlling factors.  In entering my product number on the HP Software and Drivers page it indicates my bios is up to date (only available update is for an AMD processor).  I may update to SP3 - though further research indicates XP with SP2 has no trouble 'seeing' a 1TB drive.
This compatibility doc from Hitachi that mentions these drives are compatible with some HP DV computers - but not mine specifically (dv8000 or dv8333cl) - and it also lists my motherboard/chipset as being compatible - Intel 945PM Express (I'm not sure about the express part but I'm pretty sure I have the Intel 945PM).
    http://www.hgst.com/tech/techlib.nsf/techdocs/5E27D1BA34214ECB8825797B00282A2F/$file/TS5K1000_Compat...
If not the Hitachi - due to the Advanced Format issue - how about a seagate or western digital 1TB drive such as:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822178006
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136927
I'm running windows xp with SP2 - it's very stable, my dv8000/8333cl is a centrino dual core intel 1.83ghz, i've upgraded to 2GB of Ram installed, Also I just recovered from a 'black screen' by 'reflowing' (tearing down computer and heating up the Invidia GPU to 350 degrees for a bit to 'reflow' the solder connections to my motherboard)  my nvidia Geforce GO 7600 GPU chip and cleaned/re-engineered the heat sink with custom copper heat shims  - so my HP laptop is running great and I want to keep it going for a long time.
What are the downsides to popping in a 1TB secondary drive to see if it will be 'seen' and if I can partition and format it for use as my storage drive?  Any thoughts?  Thanks much!

Seems like my 32 bit windows xp will recognize and use up to 3-3.5GB of the 4GB of RAM.  And since memory is pretty cheap now I'm going to try this also.
Anyone have any success going beyond the stated 2GB max for memory?
My Intel 945 PM motherboard/chipset lists max memory as 4GB - so it will only be limited by the 32 bit windows xp?
    Thanks for any thoughts.

  • Can I take the old hard drive from a Mac Pro G5 and put it into a Mac Pro Dual Xeon?

    Hello,
I have an old Mac Pro G5 that still runs fine but the video card is bad so you can't see anything. Can I take the hard drive out of the G5 and put it into the Mac Pro Xeon without losing the data on it?
    Thanks!

Even if I go from the hard drive on the G5 to the next generation up from the G5 and put in that hard drive into that next generation up from the G5? Isn't the mounting nearly the same?
The storage bays are physically different from those in a G5. G5's had two bays in ther upper reat of the chassis, the Mac Pros have four slots running front-to-rear two thirds of the way up the chassis.
But as The Hatter says, you can use the G5 drives but may need to "manage" the data transfers.
