Can I put album art on MP3s?

It shows it on iTunes but not on my iPod.
I don't know if it's only for AAC or only for protected AAC from the store.

You have to add art to imported CDs manually, and a
little further down in the post I explained how.
Under some circumstances, iTunes will somehow acquire album art automatically for imported CDs. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to figure out what those circumstances are.
Here's what I know. When I brought over a bunch of MP3 files I had ripped on Linux using grip, and imported them into iTunes, some of them ended up with album art.
Later, I reripped all of those files from the original CDs using iTunes. I ripped them all as Apple Lossless, and then (after archiving the lossless files onto DVD), converted them to AAC in iTunes.
Result: some of these ended up with album art and some did not. There is no evident pattern to which ended up with art and which did not. In particular, some of the ones that DID get art when I imported them as MP3 files did not get art when I ripped them with iTunes.
Other people have also reported things they've ripped mysteriously ending up with album art.

  • ITunes 10.4 can't put album art

Ever since I have updated my iTunes to 10.4 on Windows, it won't let me put album art on my songs or get it from iTunes either. It just shows a white or black box. Anyone know what the problem is?

Well. My first efforts to search for a solution were poorly executed, because I tried again and found lots of answers.
The problem appears to be using a Wacom driver. See the discussion here and (same thread) here and here. No idea when that will be fixed. I use a 8 or 9 year old Graphire, and drivers have been a problem for most of those. Sigh.
But this experience also made me learn that you can right click to add selections to a playlist.
I even learned how that first column works, which I never knew before.

  • How do i put album art with a song?

    exactly as the subject says
how do i put album art with a song?

In iTunes go to Edit>Show artwork and a pane will open below yor source list. Click on the song you want the artwork against then locate the artwork file you want to add and drag it to the pane. You can find many more iTunes "HowTo" tips here: http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/howto/

  • Can't add album art to some tracks

    Using iTunes 7.4.2 (4)
I have some MP3 files that don't have album art. For some of the albums, I've been able to use iTunes to download the art. For others, I've had to manually copy/paste the art in the Artwork field under the Get Info menu item. But, there are some MP3s that I have that don't have album art and iTunes can't find them. I can go under Get Info and paste some art into the Artwork field (I see it in the field) but when I click OK, it doesn't save. I go back into the Get Info and there's nothing there.
How can I get album art for these tracks?
Also, I have a few tracks that have the Artwork tab under Get Info completely grayed out and I can't select it. How can I activate that feature for these tracks?
    Thanks!

I am not sure how much use this will be, but for what its worth here is the way I add artwork. I don't drag and drop. I mainly use a widget Amazon Art, this alows you to access the Amazon websight and find the appropriate album cover then add it to the iTunes library, one of the operating options is selscted tracks, which involves you highlighting the album before you click on set as album artwork, which I find more relyable than currently playing track or album.
Slightly more reliable than the widget is to find art work and then copy it (If you use Amazon, its always worth clicking on show larger image of the album). Then select the entire album, in itunes and then use Command (Ctrl on a PC I suspect) and i. This allows you to paste in album art work for the entire album. It has never failed me in the past. One word of warning, be a little careful in editing double albums or various artist albums as it is easy to combine the two albums or make an entire album by a single artist.

  • How can I get album art to be shown in the left corner when it's already shown in the main area of iTunes?

My entire music collection was recently deleted on accident. It was my fault (and partially my external harddrive's ridiculously touchy USB cord's fault), but anyways I was able to use an undelete software to get the files back. Some are gone, some are somehow warped into each other, e.g., a folk song, audio-wise, is now replaced with half of a death metal song. I'm trying to fix all that up right now, but my problem is that I can only see album art in the main part of iTunes, right next to the song titles displayed. iTunes refuses to display the art in the bottom left-hand corner, where I think it usually shows what the cursor is locked on at a given time. I'm sorry for not elaborating a sentence or two back, I've also lost about half of my album art in iTunes, so that's why I'm adding it back.
The weird thing is, album art that was retained after the deletion fiasco does show up in both areas. It's just album art that I add right now that doesn't work. And it can't just be because the files are corrupted or something, because they are editable and play fine, and the same thing happened with a file I just redownloaded and then imported. That file should be perfectly OK.
Can anyone tell me if there's a reason for album art to not display in the bottom left-hand corner of iTunes while I have certain files selected?
    Thanks
p.s. one more thing, it's not like the Currently Selected box in that corner is hidden, it's in plain view which is why the blank space is so bothersome.

I am having a similar problem - my iPod Touch (2nd gen., 32GB, iOS 4.1) was recognized by iTunes on my 24" iMac (Intel, Late 2006) after I had updated it about 1-2 weeks ago (Software Update) to 10.2.2 (the iMac has OS X 10.5.8 on it). I had to take my iMac to a local WiFi spot to do the updating, because I don't have Internet at home currently (can't find anyone who provides just affordable DSL if you don't have your landline via AT&T).
Today I went to sync my iPod Touch with the iMac (I had updated some apps and bought one new one using the iPT through local WiFi spot). However, iTunes did not see ANY devices at all(!). I tried connecting the iPod Touch first, restarting iTunes and then re-connecting the iPT - nothing helps. The iPod screen turns on just like when charging, but no sign of syncing.
I'm wondering how applicable the article that you listed would be, or is there a comparable article for iPod Touches with 10.5.8? (I'm getting very fed up with what seems to be the standard Apple partyline of "Just buy a new iPod/Mac/get new software....blah, blah, blah" -Apple, what about those of us who consider it wasteful and unnecessary to buy new hardware or software every few years, just to get a helpful and NON-condescending reply from your support people? • How can I show album art in the mini player when playing songs from a plugged in iPhone?

How can I show album art in the mini player when playing songs from a plugged in iPhone?
When I play from my phone and switch to the mini player it's always showing the music notes in the thumbnaill. It'd be nice if it could get album art off of the phone.
    I'm on iTunes version 11.0.4.4

    He @mracole,
it is very nice that you post a solution to complete the library with artwork for album's that do not have an artwork. Your solution perfectly addresses the problem for assigning artwork, BUT this thread is about CHANGING artwork for albums already uploaded into iTunes Match. Just try to replace for example a blue artwork cover for an album with a red one. If you made it in a simple way (without deleting the album from iTunes Match and local changes on the files with an external ID3-Application or 2 or more iTunes libraries on different Mac's) this is the right place to give a solution. I really tried for hours to change the artwork to make them visible in landscape cover flow mode on my iPhone5. In rare cases I made it, but then the covers sometimes where restored to the old onces - exacly how it is mentioned by Starhawk
As long as there is no simple way to change the cover of an iTunes Match stored album (you can change title, artist and so on without hitting "update iTunes Match" over all distributed Library on different devices - this date will be synchronized almost instantly) I considered the behaviour from iTunes as BUGGY! For me the local artwork cache (and if there is any iCloud artwork cache - I don't know) do not interfere with iCloud. Even when I delete the whole local cache (album artwork music - everything) I do not manage to change the artwork.

  • Why is it that Itunes can't find album art for "North" by Elvis Costello and others

Why is it that from all the albums in my Library itunes can not find album art for:
    "North" by Elvis Costello
    "Viva la Vida" by Coldplay
and "Old Yellow Moon" by Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowel?

    Earl,
For iTunes to find the art, it needs to match exactly on the Artist and Album Text.  Minor issues like spacing or punctuation can prevent the match, as can a misspelling like "Crowel" for Crowell."
Look in the iTunes Store to get the exact text, fix the tags in the corresponding tracks, and then try again to "Get Album Artwork."
If that still fails, just grab the correct art off the web, and paste it into the Artwork tab.

I haven't experienced this myself but I've noticed that downloading the album info doesn't work with FLAC files.

  • How Do I put Album Art into my music files for Zen V Pl

I have a Zen V Plus and don't know how to put album art on songs that are already on the player...
Please Help MeMessage Edited by kmn755 on 2-03-200706:47 PM

You have to append the artwork to the actual music files themselves. What I do is search Amazon.com for the album that the songs are off of, click the artwork so it expands and then right click the larger artwork and COPY.
Then in iTunes go into "get info" on the song, and paste the artwork in the artwork tab. This will append it to the file. Yeah yeah i know it isn't technically legal to "copy" the artwork but I honestly don't give a rat's a$$ about doing it and neither should you.
(...cue finger-waving "shame on you, you're breaking the law" post...)
Then once you transfer this song you put the artwork on to your nano, it should show up there when you play the song. At least this works for me on my 30GB iPod video.

  • Can you get album art from.......

.....a CD you've imported? OR, do you have to get it from iTunes? iTunes doesn't have the album I've imported.
Is there any source for the album art other than iTunes??
    Thanks,
    ks

CDs don't contain artwork, if you can't find the album covers you want from iTunes you can get them from various other sources. I find this site is a good source of artwork: CD/Album Cover Art Search from SlothRadio.
Another place for finding suitable artwork is Amazon, you can check out their stores worldwide. You can also locate artwork using Google image search and put the artist or album name. Locate the album from any of those sources, save the picture to your desktop and drag it to the iTunes artwork pane. Alternatively there are programs like these that help locate artwork: iTunes Art Importer or MP3 Tag

  • Can't get album art on ipod classic since iTunes 9

    Hi there,
I have an 80GB iPod and since iTunes 9 i've had artwork issues.
On the first sync i did since iTunes 9 the artwork got mixed up on many songs (i.e. while playing one song it would show the album art for a different song on the ipod).
So I re-formatted the iPod and re-synched everything to it (which took hours since I have almost all 80GB used). Now there is no artwork at all on the iPod and I can't figure out how to get it back! I see no option anywhere saying to sync album art as well as music, and I swear I saw it in a previous iTunes.
The artwork is definitely in iTunes and definitely written into the ID3 tags of the songs so I'm not sure how to fix this, any ideas?
    Thank you!

same experience here, looks like itunes 9 doesn't edit id3 tags for album artwork coz it has a separate cache or folders where artworks of the songs are stored. so when i play an mp3 in itunes it shows that it has an album artwork but it wont show up when i use to play the same file via wmp or winamp. as of now, the work around that i know of is to manually add the album artwork in ur ipod via itunes.

  • ITunes (iMac) can't find album art

So about a month ago I finally took the plunge and switched from PC to Mac. I have an iMac, running Mavericks, and itunes 11.
I also have a Time Capsule, and when I moved my itunes library from the PC I put it there, both so I wouldn't clutter up my new hard drive and also to allow it to be accessed by other devices. I've had some trouble getting itunes to use that location as its default, especially after a reboot.
Itunes has lost a lot of the album art that the PC had. I moved everything from my PC, including the album art, which was in its own folder in the itunes library. And anyway, this is all stuff that should be accessible on the online database, since that's where it came from originally. I didn't scan in any jpgs or anything. When I go and look in the album art file folder it's all just folders inside folders, and I don't actually see any files.
So, what's the deal? Is it confused because these cds were inported by a PC? The songs play fine. If I put in a cd will it grab the metadata without my having to re-import the whole thing? Not keen on doing that.
This isn't a disaster or anything, it's just annoying. It's easier to scan my album list when the cover art shows than when half the albums show a gray box.

When you changed the directory, did you (or iTunes) move the actually music files? If you see little exclamation points and fail to be able to play the music in iTunes, this is probably your problem. You cannot update disconnected files.
You may also want to assure you are logged in to the iTunes store and that you can view the store? Maybe you have a firewall program like Zone Alarm blocking access?
Did you change anything else on your machine or install other software since the last time you were able to get album art that might be causing the problem?

I dont want to manually find an album art in Amazon or in any music store and put it there.
Cant anyone help me? by the way, im usign the latest version of itunes.

  • Putting Album Art On By Album

I'm putting the album art on the cd's i loaded myself and wanted to know if there was a way to do it by album instead of song-by-song. I know how to get the art and put it on for each song but it's so time comsuming. Is it possible to load it by album?

Or just do it the easy way, without selecting anything:
-Open the Browse menu at the top of the Library.
-Open the Album Art panel, and change it to "Selected Song" by clicking on the top of the panel until it reads that.
-Select the album you want to add art to in the Browse Menu up top (rightmost side). You can narrow the list of albums by picking a Genre/Artist first, of course.
-When you select the album, all the songs in that album will be displayed. Without clicking on any of those songs, you can drag and drop the album artwork onto the album art panel and it will be added to every song you see in the list. You must not select any songs, however. If you do, then it will only be added to those songs that you selected.

  • Can't access album art

I've just updated to 8 - found out it strips out album art. Trying to replace manually but find out that when I 'get info' for an mp3 the artwork tab at the end is greyed out so I can't even paste art in. Is this normal?

Thanks. Access is fine. It might just be something with that album.
I can get the album artwork tab with other mp3's.
I still might go back to seven though - 8 stripped out a ton of album art and can't replace it through itunes. very annoying.
