Can I put my files from an ipod touch onto an iphone?

like many people, I am considering making the leap to an iphone now that the 4g model is out in a few short days. as the owner of a 2nd gen ipod touch, would i be able to transfer my files and app saves to my iphone?

I am not a 100% sure ... heck I am not even 50% sure but I would say 'Yes'. Both are on the same OS and I believe if you backup your touch you can restore it on your phone but I have never tried this but in theory it sounds like it should work.

You should move the music from your old computer to the new one then sync. The ipod touch is not a backup device.
You should always have a backup. If for some reason you have failed to maintain a backup (bad idea), then you can transfer itunes purchases from your ipod:
Without syncing: File>Transfer Purchases
The ipod touch will sync with one computer at a time. When you sync to a different computer, it will erase the current content from the ipod first, then replace with content from the new computer.

Go to Settings>General>Reset>Erase all conent and settings to erase the iPod and set up the iPod with our account and your media.

If the music on the iPod was purchased through iTunes you can try Transfer Purchases.
Connect the iPod to the Mac and launch iTunes. Right click on the iPod name on the left side of the iTunes window under the devices heading and select Transfer Purchases. That should transfer the music into the iTunes library on the Mac.

Your only hope is to contact a data recovery company. When it shows the connect to iTunes screen the iPod is essentially deleted.

Backing up an iOS device will copy some data to a backup file within iTunes, but this excludes all media. You can also transfer iTunes Store purchases from the iDevice to iTunes but, without using a third-party tool, nothing else. It should be around 7 and a half gigs. In iTunes, across the bottom there should be a bar that show how much storage is being used and by what. (music, movies, apps, etc.) To make music take up less room, you can check the box to make it convert the music to 128kbps AAC. This lowers the quality, but with most earbuds and speakers, you can't even tell the difference.
The iPod touch has parental controls built in. You'll find them in Settings. I think they only work for enabling/disabling Safari, Mail, YouTube, and App Store. Here's an app that does more: http://www.mobicip.com/online_safety/ipod_touch

The computer has to be authorized for the account that purcchased the media.

If your iPod is set to update automatically you need to take care connecting to an empty iTunes. You can use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows with iTunes installed hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys together. This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer: iTunes - Keyboard Shortcuts for Windows
If at any point you get a message that your iPod is linked to another library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod.

okay, I read a lot of questions in a similar format but nothing has helped. Here is my situation and what I have done.
I have an iPod Touch and my computer crashed, I had to restore my system completly. I thought I had backed up my iTunes but I did not back up all of my content. However, the music I did not back up are on my iPod. How can I put my music from my iPod to my iTunes WITHOUT erasing my music I have on my iPod? Some of the music on my iPod I do not have anymore so I can't erase my music I have on my iPod.
I tried to "authorized" my computer/iTunes to my iPod but a pop up came up and said my computer was "already authorized". I also tried to back up my iPod but that did not do anything. I also went under iTunes and checked marked "manually manage music" but nothing works.
What can I do?
